In this episode of DolphinsTalk Weekly, Kevin breaks down Miami being boat raced in Buffalo, breaking down the tough loss this past Sunday to their division rival. Well, that wasn't what we wanted to see at all, was it? With an opportunity to make a massive statement, the Miami Dolphins went to Buffalo and instead found themselves on the receiving end of a statement being made by the home team. The Dolphins were beaten 48-20 and the game probably wasn't even as close as the score makes it sound. The Dolphins' defense was repeatedly exposed by Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, and the rest of the Bills' offense. On offense, the Dolphins' shorthanded offensive line failed to cope with Buffalo's pass rush and found their woes exacerbated by an injury to Terron Armstead in the second quarter. Once again, the Dolphins found that their Plan A was disrupted and failed to adequately adapt. After perhaps glossing over their shortcomings because the results allowed it, the Dolphins must now face and address the issues that Buffalo exposed so that they can get back on track and prevent the kind of spiral they've experienced so many times before. Author and NFL Columnist Gary Myers joined Mike on the DolphinsTalk.com Podcast to talk about his latest book, Once a Giant: A Story of Victory, Tragedy, and Life After Football, which chronicles the NY Giants' 1986 Super Bowl-winning team. We talk about the hard-partying players on that Giants team, the relationship between Lawrence Taylor and head coach Bill Belichick, and LT not wanting to go to the Giants on the eve of the draft. We talk about Belichick's role with the team, how he doesn't like talking about LT's off-the-field issues, and how five team players contemplated suicide after their playing career. We also discuss why they won the Super Bowl in 1986 but came short of making the playoffs and finished under .500 in 1987. As well as the former Giants head coach loaning out over $4 million to former players who played for him and why he does that.

There are simultaneously no words and not enough words to describe the Dolphins' 36-34 victory over the Chargers in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season. Missing their best offensive lineman and one of their elite CBs and on a night where their defense had an absolutely dismal performance and were basically torn apart by the Chargers offensive line, the Miami Dolphins dug down deep. Led by Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Mike McDaniel, they simply outgunned the Los Angeles Chargers and came home with what could only be described as an enormous statement win. Not to jump to any conclusions, but some of the hallmarks of a championship team are snatching victory from the jaws of defeat and finding ways to win when you're not clicking on all cylinders.
