As we embarked on our parenting journey in 2015, we knew our lives would be forever changed. Throughout my pregnancy, my husband and I often heard comments regarding sleep and how we would apparently never get to experience it again once the baby arrived. "Sleep now because you'll never sleep again" was a crowd favorite. Being an elementary school teacher, I know that children thrive on routine and structure. There had to be a way to provide my child with the sleep he needed; so my research began. My sister had previously worked with The Cradle Coach, a sleep consultancy firm based out of South Florida. They helped guide her daughter towards a healthy sleep foundation and I witnessed it happening. I saw how structured her days were and how much sleep she was getting at night. I saw how energized and peaceful she was while awake. I saw the amazing benefits it brought to her entire family! The day I put my 9-week-old on a regular sleep schedule was when our lives truly changed for the better. Our days now had consistency. He was following predictable nap and feeding schedules. Everything fell into place. By 3 months old, he was sleeping through the night (12 hours straight) and happier than ever during the day! Fast forward 2 years to our daughter being born; I was able to implement a healthy sleep foundation from the beginning and her schedule has always been amazing. I understand the struggle of being a tired mom and constantly trying to guess what your child needs or wants. As a new mother, you feel like the world is watching and pressuring you to do everything perfectly; that in itself can be exhausting. By implementing a consistent daily schedule and routine, I have created a positive sleep foundation for our family. Our lives are significantly easier and more stable. Becoming a sleep consultant was one of the best decisions I have made. I love helping frustrated parents succeed while overcoming sleep deprivation and helping their children! S10 Ep 312#312: The Seven Deadly Sins Holding Moms Back—And How to Overcome Them with Elise Loehnen
Moms are constantly told to "do it all," but at what cost? In this thought-provoking episode, bestselling author and cultural critic Elise Loehnen unpacks the deeply ingrained patterns that lead moms to suppress their own needs in favor of meeting everyone else's. Drawing from her book On Our Best Behavior, Elise reveals how the seven deadly sins—like sloth, gluttony, and pride—have been weaponized against women, shaping how we parent, work, and care for ourselves. We explore the hidden guilt behind resting, why moms feel pressure to "earn" their self-care, and how to break free from societal expectations that leave us exhausted and disconnected from our true selves. Elise also shares eye-opening insights on motherhood, identity, and the power of curiosity in reshaping our lives. If you've ever felt torn between what you "should" do and what you need, this episode is a must-listen. Learn how to reclaim your time, energy, and joy—without guilt. Listen to today's episode on our website Elise Loehnen is a writer, editor, and podcast host who lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Rob, and their two sons, Max and Sam. She is the host of Pulling the Thread, a podcast focused on pulling apart the stories we tell about who we are—and then putting those threads back together. Ultimately Elise is a seeker and synthesizer, braiding together wisdom traditions, cultural history, and a deep knowledge of healing modalities to unlock new ways to contextualize who we are and why we're here. She's also the author of the instant New York Times bestseller On Our Best Behavior: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Price Women Pay to Be Good (Dial Press/PRH). The book weaves together history, memoir, and cultural criticism to explore the ways patriarchy lands in the bodies of women and embeds itself in our consciousness—and what we then police in ourselves and in each other. Regardless of our religious provenance, the self-denial implicit in each of the Seven Deadly Sins—Sloth, Envy, Pride, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Anger—reads like a checklist of what it means to be a "good" woman. With awareness, we can begin to recognize these patterns of self-restriction, break the story, and move ourselves and each other toward freedom and balance. Listen to today's episode on our website Dr. Leedia is a biological dentist who is revolutionizing the way we think about oral health. Her approach focuses on overall wellness, long-term disease prevention, and empowerment through education. As a mother of two wonderful girls, Dr. Leedia recognizes the importance of women's dental health and early childhood dental education, making these areas a particular focus in her practice. In Dr. Leedia's Beverly Hills office, she offers a range of integrative dental therapies, including integrative dental extractions, responsible cosmetic dentistry, biomimetic fillings, safe mercury removal and detox, ozone therapies, micronutrient testing, an airway centric approach to dental care and so much more. While these may seem like disparate treatments, they all address the root cause of the most prevalent dental issue: decay. Currently, dental decay is the most common chronic disease in children worldwide, causing pain and trauma that is preventable. To combat this issue, Dr. Leedia created a course to teach parents the techniques she uses to reverse small cavities and bolster children's oral health. Dr. Leedia's dedication to dental health extends beyond children. She recognizes that over 65% of women suffer from dental disease concurrent with pregnancy, and that inflammation in the mouth is linked to premature labor, low birth weight, heart disease, and more. This realization has prompted her to put a spotlight on the importance of women's dental health and the impact that hormones have on the oral cavity. By educating and empowering women and fostering collaboration between the medical and dental worlds, Dr. Leedia is helping patients achieve optimal whole body health. Her dedication to her patients is evident in everything she does. She practices biological dentistry with her brother, Dr. Rashad, and together they bring over 32 years of experience to their work. They are passionate about creating seismic shifts in the world of dental health, one patient at a time. Their approach honors each patient as an individual, recognizing the unique needs and concerns that each brings to their practice. Listen to today's episode on our website My story: I was diagnosed with chronic constipation and leaky gut at the age of 21. At the time, I knew nothing about food allergies or sensitivities. Though when I look back on my childhood now, I recognize that I suffered the symptoms of chronic inflammation and reactions to food from an early age. When I learned why I was having severe stomach pains and fluctuations in stool for years, I was exhausted. I had been through the ringer of the conventional medical system, finding no true answers to my concerns. That's when I found naturopathic medicine. What I discovered was a complete paradigm shift around healing our bodies and what it meant to truly be healthy. I also realized just how important health in childhood really is. The naturopathic approach made sense, I felt better than I ever had before, and since then I have made it my mission to share this medicine with others. This led me to attending the top naturopathic medical school in the country, Bastyr University in San Diego, CA, where I earned my doctorate. My goal is to help your child feel better and stay healthy for years to come. I am not just trying to make their symptoms go away, but to truly treat the underlying cause so that they can thrive and become healthy adults. I can't promise healing for your child will be linear or not take any effort, but I can promise that I will support you and your family along the way. In my free time, you can find me at the local farmer's markets finding fresh ingredients to cook with, somewhere out in nature, or spending time with her husband and pup, Chief!
