How can we live without regrets?

Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, in his work The Joyful Wisdom, explored this through a thought experiment he called the "eternal return." He asked us to imagine: What if you had to live this very life, exactly as it is—every joy, every sorrow, every thought—over and over, for eternity? How would you feel? Would you embrace it? Or, as Nietzsche suspected, would you recoil in horror? Nietzsche believed this reaction reveals a deep-seated struggle many have with regrets and missed opportunities. His work, which dates back to 1882, shows that the anguish of missing out on one's life is not new but common to us all. So how can we avoid regret? What are these common regrets? What about relationships? Are these regrets unavoidable? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Who is the richest man in history?

Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos… modern billionaires are in a league of their own. We’re often told that wealth comes from hustle, long hours, and smart decisions. So how long would the average American have to work to earn Bezos-level wealth? The answer: more than 3 million years and that’s assuming they never spend a single cent. Who was he? Is it better sleeping with or without a pillow?

We don’t know about you, but some nights we just can’t fall asleep without turning onto our stomach. And when we do, we seem to drift off more easily when not using a pillow. But we do sometimes wonder whether doing that could have any negative health impact. Just like your mattress and bed base, the pillow plays a key role in sleep quality, but it’s often the most overlooked part of our bedding. You see, experts say that a pillow should help keep your spine properly aligned while you sleep, maintaining its natural curve, especially at the neck. That helps reduce pressure on the intervertebral discs, preventing tension in the cervical area. What are some of the other benefits? Are there any cases when it’s better not to use a pillow? What should you do if you keep waking up in pain? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! If the mere smell of a good cup of coffee is enough to get you out of bed, you might want to rethink your early morning ritual. What are the dirtiest objects in your home?

You might assume that your toilet bowl is the dirtiest place in your flat or house, but in fact that’s pretty far from the truth. Our homes are actually filled with items that are perfect hosts for germs and bacteria, and sometimes it’s the objects you least suspect. For example those in your kitchen or bathroom in particular. According to BBC Food, the domestic kitchen is to blame for a fair share of the 2.4 million cases of food poisoning that occur in the UK each year. What’s the dirtiest item in the kitchen then? What's the best way to have quick sex?

A few months ago we ran an episode on how long people have sex for, and referenced an American study from the 2000s which found that the ideal length for most people is between 7 and 13 minutes. Now that’s probably less than what a lot of you might think, but it’s proof that quick sex can often be just as satisfying as a drawn out love-making session. And let’s be honest - often we don’t really have much of a choice. Finding any more than 15 minutes to be intimate with your partner can be a challenge, depending on how busy your daily schedule is and whether you’ve got kids who need your attention. Still, the quickie is a great way for couples to keep their sex lives exciting; it’s fast and spontaneous, and it can happen anytime, anywhere. So let’s run through a few tips to help you get the most out of your quick sex! Does a quickie always mean penetration? How can I keep things spontaneous when I have to fit quick sex into such a small time window? What if my partner or I just aren't in the mood? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! How do aeroplanes fly?

Have you ever been on an aeroplane and wondered how on earth a vehicle weighing tens of thousands of kilograms can even take off, let alone stay in the air for hours on end? In 2021, American multi-millionaire Bryan Johnson began his Project Blueprint. Then 43, his stated aim was to restore his body and organs to the state of an eighteen-year-old. Which foods should I avoid after their expiry date?

Some expired food products are easy to identify, due to an unpleasant smell, mould, swollen packaging or abnormal colour for example. But others show no visible changes in texture, colour, or smell. In such cases, you might well ask yourself if the item is still safe to consume. To begin with, it's important to note that some products don’t expire, as long as they’re stored in the right conditions, as indicated on the packaging. For example, pasta, tinned goods, rice, sugar, flour, coffee, dry cakes, honey or vinegar. These tend to have an indicative "best before" date on the packaging, usually noted in the month-year format. But even if you go past that date, the product won’t be unfit for consumption. However, it may have lost some of its sensory qualities like taste, texture, or appearance. So, which expired foods should definitely not be eaten? Does an opened product still have the same "use by" date? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Could the 12-12-12 method help you declutter your home?

Ever since the 1960s, the minimalist movement has been captivating art and interior design enthusiasts. It’s all about simplicity, emphasising a return to the essentials, and encouraging us to let go of our attachment to material things as far as possible. If you tend to struggle with clutter in your home environment, the 12-12-12 method may just be able to help you counter that problem. It was created by Joshua Becker of Becoming Minimalist and it’s really gained a lot of attention online since, with many people saying it helped them transform their home into a more harmonious space. Self-deprecation can be an endearing trait in some people. After all, it’s important not to take oneself too seriously, isn’t it? But when pick me boys, the subject of today’s episode, talk badly about themselves, they do so in a manipulative way, in the hope that it will bring them closer to women they’re attracted to. What is Focus Friday?

Let's be honest: being productive at work on Fridays can be a real challenge. A 2019 study by Accountemps found that Friday was the least common choice for American workers when naming their most productive day of the week. The slump is likely down to having worked hard over the first four days of the week, as well as thinking ahead to the weekend. What’s more, your colleagues are in the same frame of mind too. But in recent years, a method has emerged to combat this phenomenon and potentially turn Friday into the most impactful day of the week. It’s known as Focus Friday. How does it work? How can you implement it on your own? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Does money really make us happy?

According to a 2014 study by the Pew Research Center, people in wealthier countries are happier on average, but only up to a point. Even in so-called "emerging" countries like Indonesia, Pakistan and Turkey, there was a correlation between rising wealth levels and the percentage of happy people. Interestingly though, in well-off nations, people don't necessarily attribute their happiness directly to money. The same Pew Research Center study found that health, children’s education, safety from crime, owning a home and having a fulfilling job were all more important than financial security. Of course, those factors are all somewhat connected to the economy. Where did that saying come from to start with? And is money still a key player? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Does sleeping next to someone improve sleep quality?

Have you ever cursed your luck at having a partner who snores, or spends the whole night tossing and turning in bed? It can be tempting to consider abandoning them to go and sleep on the sofa instead. Evidence suggests that sleeping next to someone does indeed have a pretty significant impact on adults’ sleep, whether that’s a partner, family member or even a pet. Researchers from the University of Arizona looked into the matter, and published the results of their study in Sleep journal in June 2022, under the title Bed Sharing Versus Sleeping Alone Associated with Sleep Health and Mental Health. Was it a positive impact? And what if my partner snores loudly or wakes up suddenly during the night? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Are micro naps actually effective?

After lunch, many of us get that familiar afternoon slump, an overwhelming urge to just doze off for a little while. And on weekends or during holidays, it’s easy enough to sneak in a short nap. But at work, it’s another story. Firstly, it simply wouldn’t be practical in a lot of work environments, and even if it was, would you really dare to go for a kip in the middle of the work day? You might be afraid of incurring the wrath of your boss, or giving your colleagues the impression that you’re a slacker. What’s the ideal nap length then? So should we be encouraging napping in the workplace really then, rather than frowning upon it? What about longer naps? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Which foods mustn't you put in the microwave?

The microwave first emerged in the 1950s and has since become a common fixture in kitchens worldwide. 2018 data from Statista showed that 93% of UK household now own a microwave, with that figure also being over 90% in the United States according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Love it or hate it; you can’t deny that it’s hard to beat the microwave for convenience when it comes to quickly reheating food. What is climate shadow, the newest way to measure your impact on global warming?

The idea of carbon footprint dates back to the early 2000s and ironically was introduced by oil giant BP. But recently, a new concept was created: the climate change shadow. It's a relatively recent addition to the ever growing list of terms relating to climate change. American writer Emma Pattee introduced the idea of the climate shadow in a blog post for Mic.com in December 2021, as a more comprehensive metric for each person’s impact on the climate crisis. What exactly contributes to my climate shadow? Isn’t that very similar to a carbon footprint? How useful is the concept of a climate shadow? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions ! What advantages does pretty privilege give attractive people?

Of course, as the old saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but even as children we all kind of realise who’s seen as physically attractive and who isn’t, don’t we? Let’s take a moment to consider that the global beauty industry was worth $430bn in 2022, according to a report from McKinsey. That was up from $300 bn in 2015, with projections suggesting the $500bn mark would be reached by 2025. In 2020, British shoppers spent £100m more on plant milks compared to the previous year, according to research from Mintel. That was a rise of over 30%, demonstrating their growing popularity. Is it bad to drink coffee after 4pm?

According to the British Coffee Association, we drink around 98 million cups of coffee per day in the UK. That’s around one and a half cups for every single person in the country! It’s said that drinking coffee in the evening or even late afternoon has a negative impact on sleep quality, but a lot of people do so anyway. Coffee contains various molecules, such as antioxidants and caffeine, which has a psychostimulant effect and is therefore behind the links to disrupting sleep. What is future faking?

“I can’t wait for us to get married;” “Let’s travel the world together;” “We’re going to have two kids and buy that apartment across the street” When you’re in a romantic relationship, it can be genuinely heartwarming to hear your partner paint a vibrant picture of days ahead. But what about if it happens much earlier than you expected - say on your second or third date? Usually at that stage, you're still figuring each other out, so beware - it could be a sign of what’s known as future faking. Of course, there’s no one single pace for all relationships to abide by, but generally speaking couples don’t make life plans or even say “I love you” within the first couple weeks of dating. So it’s only really a red flag when talk of those kinds of plans pop up too early. In some cases, you could be dealing with a narcissist who’s using false promises to win you over in the moment, creating an illusion of intimacy when in reality they’re not thinking about the future at all. Hence the name: future faking. Is it similar to love bombing? How can I deal with a future faking partner? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!
