DJ Disciple (David Banks) is a Brooklyn-based house music DJ with decades of hits in the industry. Having spent several years building his reputation with explosive sets at Pacha (Ibiza) and Ministry of Sound (UK), he was named one of the world’s top 100 DJs by DJ Magazine. His Grammy-nominated 2002 hit single “Caught Up” was also featured on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. After appearing on MTV and BBC Radio 1, Disciple has certainly made his mark on the house music scene. In 1997, he started his own record label, Catch 22 Records. This year marks his 25th year of making music with Catch 22. Despite the 2020 lockdowns in New York, DJ Disciple’s artistic freedom could not be stifled. Seeing as restaurants had become the major platform for DJs to thrive as artists in New York, he continued his residency at Martha’s Country Bakery in Williamsburg. He made regular appearances at LiveSpin at the Funktion House in Red Hook and showcased himself at self-booked venues to gain more of an audience. During 2020, Disciple released two albums, Sounds You Can Feel Vol I & II, selling multiple copies online. The albums reached number one on the Traxsource charts with Doug Gomez’s remix of “Midnight Espresso”. In 2021, he worked with new artists Amorelle, Beatweezy, and Harmonies for two new albums; Selections was released in the spring, followed by Full Circle in the fall. DJ Disciple has recently added Mera Lounge in South Brooklyn on Wednesdays and Thursdays to his already busy weekend schedule. He currently works with promoter Becky Nunez at club “Now & Then”, located in Williamsburg. Disciple collaborated with Collette McLafferty on Birdseye view. Originally known for her work in the rock band edibleRed, Disciple introduced McLafferty to the world of House music from his sets at long time New York venues Le Souk, Webster Hall and Ceilo. She was part of Disciple's dancing faithful dancing crew...often dancing to Disciple's megahit "Work It Out" at 5 in the morning. McLafferty also made worldwide headlines back in 2014, when a total stranger and former drummer of a P!NK Tribute Band she worked in sued her for $10,000,000 for a one time performance. A sensationalized version of the lawsuit went viral via the New York Post, Perez Hilton and Time Magazine based on claims that she was a "lousy singer" and "too unattractive" for the job. After winning a two year legal battle and a $15,000 legal bill for the performance, McLafferty is now championing for change in the legal system. "Collette's Law" was introduced by Bushwick Assemblywoman Maritza Davila to protect innocent people from frivolous lawsuits. Additionally, she is writing a book "Confessions of a Bad, Ugly Singer" to set the record straight on what really happened. With the hardest chapter behind her, McLafferty is thrilled to be teaming up with Disciple and returning to her love for the music that he introduced to her with the new single "Bird's Eye View".
