The judge in Luigi Mangione's state trial set a June 8 trial date for New York's case against him for the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, leading Mangione to have an outburst Friday as court concluded. The judge started the proceedings by saying it appears the federal government had reneged on their agreement to let the state trial go first by setting a date of Sept. 8 to begin jury selection in the federal trial, with opening statements on Oct. 13.  However, that trial date may be delayed if the federal government appeals the decision to throw out the charges against Mangione that were eligible for the death penalty. The judge said in the event the federal trial is indeed delayed, then the state trial would proceed on Sept. 8 instead.  The judge told Mangione's defense attorneys to be ready to proceed on June 8.   Earlier this year, state prosecutors requested a July 1 trial date for Mangione on the state charges. Mangione's attorneys said this request is unreasonable as they need the rest of the year to prepare for the federal trial. There were approximately two dozen Mangione supporters in the courtroom Friday. One wore a shirt with the message "Luigi Mangione: Not in the Epstein files" on it.   "Double jeopardy," Mangione says in court Mangione's defense said their client is being put in an untenable situation as the tug-of-war between state and federal prosecutions plays out.  The video player is currently playing an ad. As court concluded, Mangione, who was wearing tan prison clothing and was handcuffed, had an outburst, shouting, "It's the same trial twice. One plus one is two. Double jeopardy by any common sense definition."                   Luigi Mangione's legal team created a website for the accused killer, they say “due to the extraordinary volume of inquiries and outpouring of support. His attorneys say the website — luigimangioneinfo.com — was created to ”share case updates, “dispel information” and publish letters from Mangione while he’s incarcerated. He writes “I am overwhelmed by — and grateful for — everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support.”  That support include thousands donations for his legal fees. Luigi Mangione's defense team describes his "beautiful, promising life" as "derailed" by the murder charges against him. This phrasing is not highlighted as a saying from Mangione's groupies, but as a phrase coming from Mangione's attorney as part of a legal motion filed to dismiss the federal case or get the death penalty tossed. As part of an evidence suppression hearing in the upcoming trial of Luigi Mangione, prosecutors play a 911 call placed by the manager of a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The McDonald's manager is not identified, and the hearing is the first time the 911 call is played in public. The manager is apologetic as she tells the 911 operator she tried the non-emergency line first and continues taking orders as she tells the operator, "I have a customer here some other customers were suspicious of because he looks like the CEO shooter in New York. "And they're just really upset and come to me, and I'm like, I can't approach him." The 911 operator, Emily States, testifies and is heard asking for a description of the individual, with the manager replying,"The only thing you can see is the eyebrows." Mangione's defense attorney, Marc Agnifilo, objects to the 911 call being played, but the judge says he is allowing the call for this hearing. Mangione enters the courtroom in shackles, but the judge allows Mangione to sit unshackled and take notes at the defense table. Long lines outside the courthouse filled with women and men supporters trying to enter the hearing, hoping to get a glimpse of the alleged CEO murderer. Mangione's defense team is trying to prevent several key pieces of evidence from being allowed at trial, like the comment about the 3-D printed pistol. Angifilo claims conversations with correction officers were illegally coerced and should not be allowed. The defense claims Mangione is questioned for 20 minutes by Altoona Police Officer Joseph Detwiler without being read his Miranda rights. Therefore, prosecutors should not be allowed to introduce any testimony about statements made by Mangione to police. United States District Judge Margaret Garnett says she will rule on the defense’s request to drop death penalty charges and the exclusions at a later hearing. If the murder charge remains, Garnett a trial could start in late December or early January 2027. If charges dropped, Mangione's trial might begin this October. On day 13, in the search for Nancy Guthrie, we have seen an increased reward and a turf war exposed between Pima County investigators and the FBI. Sheriff Chris Nanos says he has not been blocking FBI access to evidence, even though we learn that the sheriff's office sent evidence, including gloves found inside Guthrie's home, to a Florida lab, not the FBI lab. Nanos says it's not even known if the gloves were connected to Guthrie's disappearance. New video posted to social media of a man ringing the doorbell of a homeowner 6.5 miles from Gutherie's home at 5 am. The homeowner did not know the man. Erin Strotman, a former 27-year-old  NICU nurse initially facing 20 charges, gets a sweetheart deal after pleading no contest to nine charges of child abuse. The abuse came to light when Henrico County Police Detective Megan Lynch responded to Henrico Doctors' Hospital regarding a 5-month-old male in the NICU, found with a fractured left femur. Further examination revealed the child also had a fractured right tibia and multiple rib fractures. Investigators noted similarities between the injuries and those suffered by four males in the NICU during the previous summer. Following the earlier unexplained injuries, the hospital installed surveillance cameras throughout the NICU. Detective Lynch reviewed the surveillance footage and reported her findings. On November 10, Nurse Erin Strotman was recorded in the room with the baby identified as "Y.H." in hospital records. The footage showed Strotman grabbing Y.H. by the legs and applying pressure, placing her weight on them, and pushing the baby's legs backward until his feet reached his head. The video shows Y.H. crying and appearing to be distressed. Seven potential abuse cases are now under investigation, and police say more may be uncovered. Henrico County investigators are reviewing hundreds of hours of surveillance footage to piece together the events. Reports indicate that at least three affected families attended Strotman's court appearance. One father, speaking publicly, stated that another couple reported their child had suffered 12 fractures. Strotman has been formally charged in one baby's case, with the investigation ongoing. Her public defender stated that she has not yet entered a plea. Strotman remains in custody without bail, and her next court appearance is set for March 24. A Utah restaurant owner says accused killer Tyler Robinson treated himself to a steak dinner just hours after allegedly assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Robinson reportedly sat alone and kept to himself. Throughout the investigation, FBI Director Kash Patel revealed the FBI has investigated several “conspiracy theories” about Charlie Kirk’s murder that circulated online. They include theories about possible accomplices, the authenticity of the text conversation between Robinson and his roommate, the bullet’s trajectory, and even why Kirk, who normally wears black, was clad in white that day. Online sleuths also have hang-ups on the bullet's trajectory, since clear video of the shooting is still widely available online. Social media users of the younger generations are also questioning the authenticity of Robinson’s text messages to his “surprised” romantic partner. Gen Z influencers say most single 22-year-olds do not speak in full sentences over text and point out several examples of odd grammar from Robinson. Bryan Kohberger’s incessant complaints are driving Idaho prison staff to possible drastic measures. The now 31-year-old threatens to harm himself over other inmates' harassment, and writes formal complaints about his access to commissary items and the quality of his food, down to the “type of bananas” served to him in his cell. Inside sources claim IDOC officials are so fed up with Kohberger’s “diva” antics, they’ve approached several states to try to see if he can be transferred elsewhere. Meanwhile, speculation continues that Kohberger did not murder alone due to the injuries caused to the victims. Unsealed records detail that Kaylee was stabbed roughly 38 times as she slept next to Maddie, stabbed 28 times. Ethan suffers 17 sharp force wounds while he sleeps, but Xana, clearly awake, is stabbed 67 times as she fights for her life. Xana is the only victim with blood on her feet, indicating she stood or sat upright during the attack. Kaylee and Maddie both died as a result of their stab wounds, but Kaylee also suffered asphyxial and blunt force injuries to her head. Autopsies for Spencer and Monique Tepe are complete, and show a much different scene of the murders than previously thought. Early reports indicated Monique was shot once in the chest, and Spencer was shot more than once, with three shell casings found at the scene. In fact, the killer unloaded a full clip, 16 rounds, and both were shot in the head: Monique in her right cheek, and Spencer in his left ear. A total of 16 gunshot wounds are discovered. A standard magazine for a handgun holds 15 to 17 rounds, depending on the size of the bullet. Spencer and Monique likely died within "seconds to minutes" of being shot. The injuries suffered and the trajectories of bullets indicate some movement by Spencer and Monique; the range of fire is indeterminate, and there is no way to tell in which order the injuries are inflicted. More than a month after the Transparency Act’s deadline, the DOJ released three million pages of Jeffrey Epstein case files, 2,000 videos, and 180,000 pictures. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche says nearly twice that amount of pages were collected as “potentially responsive” to the act. Still, in the process of review, redaction, and de-duplication, it was whittled to the nearly 3.5 million pages now made public. Not all videos and images were taken by Epstein or someone around him. They include large quantities of commercial pornography and images that were seized from Epstein's devices, but which he did not take. The files include 2019 FBI emails suggesting 10 possible Epstein co-conspirators. The correspondence indicates 6 of those participants have served subpoenas: three in Florida, and one each from Boston, New York City, and Connecticut. The only unredacted names in the file? ‘Maxwell’ and ‘Wexner,’ possibly referring to former Victoria’s Secret CEO Les Wexner. Wexner, who had a public friendship with Epstein, said in 2019 he was "embarrassed" by his ties to the financier. His lawyers claim Wexner was “neither a co-conspirator nor a target” of that investigation. Shortly after 7:40 a.m., Alyssa Castro and her boyfriend are in their car in their south Wichita neighborhood when a neighbor waves them down. As the woman approaches, they see what appears to be blood on the woman's hands. The woman asks to borrow a phone to call 911, then takes off with the phone back into a house. A 911 dispatch reveals a possible stabbing and relays a message to first responders that a woman says that it happened in her home. Dispatch relays information that the person calling says the stabbing was in self-defense. She was trying to save herself from her mother. Arriving at the home at 7:52 a.m., Wichita police find a woman outside the house with cuts on her hands and blood on her clothing. Inside the house, they find 81-year-old Anita Avers unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. Both women are taken to the hospital. After Angelynn "Angie" Mock is arrested, her attorney requests a mental health evaluation. The case was taken off the docket while the evaluation is complete. A federal judge has dismissed the death penalty-eligible murder and weapons charges against Luigi Mangione, accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. In a shocking moment in the investigation, while Monique and Spencer are out of town at the Big 10 Championship game on December 6, McKee is captured on video entering the "curtilage" of the Tepe home. "Curtilage" is the property immediately surrounding a home and is considered an extension of the dwelling for Fourth Amendment purposes.
