179. Your 3 Hour Marketing Plan
EIf you ever worry that you don't have enough time to spend on marketing and list building, you're in the right place. My guest today is Yissel Espinoza Cervantes who helps driven women create their dream careers without sacrificing their health, family, and happiness. Speaking of driven women, Yissel is definitely one of them. And she finds herself in a season of life where other obligations only allow her about 3 hours to work on marketing her business every week. So, Yissel's big question was, Where should I spend that time to get the best results? Though the answer to this question will be different for every coach, Yissel and I did our best to find the aligned answer for her. Here's the process we followed to get there: Create a timeframe as a filter so you feel grounded and clear that the overwhelm you may feel is temporary. Get super honest about how much time you can actually devote to the plan you create. Don't overshoot this at all. In fact, I recommend that you underestimate the amount of time you've got. Set clear goals. What concrete results do you want to accomplish thanks to your plan? Pick one strategy and go all in. You will gain more traction and gather more data by focusing on one strategy than dabbling in a bunch of them. When you're 85% comfortable and consistent with that one strategy, add the next layer. Sometimes that layer will be a new action. Other times it might be simply doing more of the thing that's already working. Now it's your turn. Here's what you'll learn: Which list building strategy can bring the best results when you don't have time to waste. Understand how repurposing content and incorporating virtual assistants can streamline your list building process and free you up to do what you're good at, which is coaching. How to embrace imperfection and give yourself a passing grade while you're in your busy season of life. 178. Four Steps to Attract Your Dream Client With the Right Message
EFinding clients is one thing. Keeping them is another. Especially when the work you do is so powerful that folks feel like they're fixed after only 4 coaching sessions. That was the case for Jessica Raaum Foster who realized that in order to really have the impact (and the income) she craves, she needs to redesign her offer and refocus her niche. If you worry that nobody will actually be interested in investing in your coaching program, this episode will help you re-evaluate your dream client, the offer they really need, and the message to call them in. In this episode, Dallas and Jessica cover: An honest conversation about the type of client whose willing and able to invest in coaching for the long haul An audit of Jessica's content and message to ensure it aligns with her target audience. How to turn a nice to have offer into a give it to me know program A Bit About Jessica Jessica Raaum Foster helps people get out of pain and improve performance by teaching them how to play with their brains. I’ve actually worked with Jessica and her methods are pretty mind blowing. Jessica came into our conversation feeling really clear about who her dream client actually is. And also pretty clear that she hasn't been delivering a clear message or offer that aligns with that same dream client. So, the two of us put our heads together to design a simple, scalable program that Jessica’s dream client will not only leap toward, but they’ll also want to stay for the long haul. Then, we identified gaps in Jessica’s message plus a framework to fill those gaps so she could take her shiny new offer to the streets. Whether you’re crystal clear about your dream client or not, this episode will reveal four essential steps to ensure that your marketing message and your offer both align with the clients you want to attract. 177. Six Key Questions to Scale With Authenticity, Intention, and Profits
EIf you want to know how to effectively manage and support the growth of your membership-based business, then this episode is for you! My guest today is Camille Brown who helps bakers become confident recipe developers so they can create drool-worthy desserts and create thriving businesses. Camille rolled out a membership program earlier this year and now she has questions about determining the next steps for this program. And she doesn't want to be the bottleneck slowing growth down. And at the same time, Camille isn't interested in hosting a program that lacks any personal connection. So, we tackled a list of Camille's questions to help her scale wisely. Now, scaling is a bit of a buzzword in the online coaching space. But I'm not sure everyone selling scalability understands what scaling actually means. If you look it up in the dictionary, you'll find that scaling is to grow without feeling hampered. Which means that bigger isn't always better. And every coach needs to design a scaled business model that aligns with their values, goals and work style. In this episode, we'll discuss how to: Tell when it's time to grow. Determine the best way to manage growth so you don't compromise the program. Set and meet expectations inside your community. Determine when it is time to hire and what tasks to delegate. Watch for the clues to reveal it is time to grow again. Key Points We Cover: Setting Boundaries for Sustainability Defining clear boundaries helps your clients understand what to expect and ensures that you can delivery easily on your program's promises.. Membership Growth and Scaling Camille and Dallas brainstormed a layered plan to handle the influx of new members, adding relevant content, fostering engagement, and ensuring each member's satisfaction. EP171: Your Body Is Your Business with Ollie Matthews
EMy guest today is Ollie Matthews who knows from experience that the missing link for many of us is our health. Many coaches unconsciously compromise their self care and healthy habits because we’re so busy working on our businesses. If this resonates with you, then this episode is for you. But Ollie believes that your body IS your business and he’s on a mission to help business owners manage their hormones, get better rest and take better care of their bodies so they can feel free in their business and in their lives. So, we have a very important conversation today to help you (and selfishly… help me) connect the dots between your body and your business. So, pour yourself a big glass of water with a pinch of pink salt and take an energizing walk as you listen along to this inspiring episode. In this episode, you will be able to: 1. Discover the crucial role health plays in achieving long-lasting business success. 2. Uncover the surprising ways stress affects the body, especially in women. 3. Learn foundational health practices for a thriving life, such as hydration, nutrition, and sleep. 4. Gain valuable insights on stress management techniques, boundary-setting, and burnout prevention. 5. Delve into the significance of supporting your body's natural detox processes for peak health. Key Points We Cover: The Importance of Basic Foundations As Ollie says, your body IS your business. So, a strong foundation in health is essential for coaches seeking sustainable business success. In the podcast, Ollie stresses the power of consistency and the importance of starting with basic health habits upon which coaches can build their businesses without risking burnout or injury. He shares the analogy of climbing Mount Everest, explaining that health should be approached much like setting up base camp. He believes that sticking to the essentials – hydration, protein intake, and sleep – can yield greater results in overall health than extreme practices like nootropics and fad diets. Understanding Toxins and Detoxification The world is full of toxins that can impact our health, even in rural areas where one might feel removed from pollution because pesticides and chemicals can still be present in the air due to farming. Identifying ways to introduce more antioxidants and improve air quality can go a long way in promoting overall health. During the podcast, Ollie emphasizes the importance of bolstering detoxification systems by seeking ways to reduce exposure to toxins and increase the body's natural defense mechanisms, you can potentially improve your overall health and vitality. Prioritizing Sleep Healthy sleep habits play a crucial role in achieving long-term success. Proper sleep helps the body and mind rejuvenate and prepare for the demands of work and personal life. Inadequate sleep can lead to various issues, including poor decision-making and reduced productivity. During this podcast, Ollie offers advice for improving sleep habits, such as his three-two-one rule: no meals three hours before bed, no screens or work two hours before bed, and no technology one hour before bed. He encourages coaches to invest in their sleep and view it as a vital component of overall health and well-being. OTHER FANTASTIC GUEST EXPERT INTERVIEWS: 1. EP 152: Jennie Nash - Raise Your Voice. 170. Build Your List to Boost Course Sales
EIf you want to learn how to leverage your strengths… leverage what’s working… to become more visible and boost your sales, then this episode is for you. .My guest today is Omar Cumberbatch who helps Health Coaches create podcasts that build their brands. Earlier this year, Omar invited me to join him on his show, The Health Coach Academy Podcast. His show is really valuable and quite successful. So, Omar wanted to brainstorm how he can leverage his show to boost course sales. Which led us to a step by step conversation about list building because if you want to boost course sales, you’ve gotta build a mailing list. Since Omar isn’t interested in social media marketing, we brainstormed a couple of simple ways he can build off of his podcast to add email subscribers who can ultimately buy his course. In this episode, we’ll discuss how to: 1. Use your podcast for list building and marketing courses. 2. Use lead magnet swaps as a cutting-edge list building strategy. 3. Create personalized pitches to increase chances of being booked on other podcasts to help drive more listeners to your own show. 4. Build commercials for a lead magnet into every podcast episode. 5. Use social media to promote your podcast and lead magnet. Key Points We Cover: Podcast Promotion You can’t simply make a course and expect it to sell. Instead, Dallas and Omar brainstorm ways he can use his successful podcast to drive more sales. Their ideas include running commercials for his course directly on the podcast. They also talked about using the podcast to also build his mailing list so he can sell via email. And lastly, how Omar can leverage partnerships to bring more ears to his podcast where he’ll then be able to sell his course. Social Media Marketing Strategy A social media marketing strategy is essential for coaches who aim to build their email list. By consistently utilizing various platforms, coaches can expand their reach and engage a much larger audience, thus increasing the chances of attracting new subscribers. It is important for coaches to choose social media strategies that align with their personal comfort level and preferences, as this will ensure more consistent engagement. In this episode, Dallas encourages Omar to embrace a more consistent social media marketing strategy by posting podcast transcripts and audiograms on his LinkedIn account. They discuss the importance of tailoring your marketing strategy to fit your personal preferences so they feel authentic and comfortable, which in turn will help you connect with potential subscribers on a genuine level and ultimately grow your email list. 169. How to Sell on Social Without Selling Your Soul
EIf you can’t stand social media, but know you need to market your business on there, then this episode is for you. My guest today is Laura Kendrick who helps pre & postnatal people stay present in every moment without sacrificing their health and wellness. Laura feels like the best kept secret in her niche and she’s pretty tired of it. She also knows without a doubt that her target audience spends a lot of time scrolling through social media. Which means that as much as she can’t stand social, Laura wants to find a way to market her business on social media without selling her soul. We got creative and leaned into Laura’s why to simplify and a getting-started social plan that both Laura and I feel pretty darn good about. In this episode, we’ll discuss how to : 1. Leverage Laura’s love of writing to repurpose blog content on Instagram. 2. Delegate social media responsibilities for better consistency and engagement. 3. Develop concise, purposeful calls-to-action in every post. 4. Protect your heart from the comparison game or negativity that can often appear on social platforms. Key Points We Cover: Playing the Game of Social Media Many coaches just aren’t sure how to present their brand while remaining true to their values. Playing the game of social media can feel disingenuous, which makes it hard for coaches who prioritize authenticity to engage in this space. Laura shares her concerns with Dallas, explaining her internal resistance to social media and how she feels pressured to craft a specific image for her online presence. Dallas suggests that Laura leverage what’s already working and do the bare minimum because consistent content is so much more effective than simply posting a lot. The Friction of Social Media Apps like Instagram can blow up your phone with endless notifications. Which explains why many coaches often find themselves grappling with their values and messages while still aiming to entice followers through their online platforms. In her conversation with Dallas, Laura mentioned that remaining genuine on social media can be challenging, especially when most strategies revolve around manipulating follower counts and engagement rates. They discuss the importance of aligning your values with social media practices to ensure that your stance aligns with and truly serves your target audience. 168. Overcoming the Fear of Visibility: A Coach's Guide to Growing Your Business
EDo you struggle with staying visible as a coach? Well, I’m bringing back one of my all time favorite episodes this week. In fact, it was one of the first episodes I ever recorded for the show. My guest is Katy Chen Mazzara and she is a money coach who helps creatives save more money without sacrifice so they can truly experience financial freedom. At the time of our interview, Katy was ready to scale her business but she struggled to be visible consistently. So, what you’ll hear today is a deep conversation where Katy and I uncover the origin of her fear. From there, we explore how she can be with that fear instead of assuming that the only way to overcome it is by taking on a false, positive mental attitude. Now, this conversation happened nearly two years ago and can I just say that our friend Katy no longer struggles to be visible. In fact, I see her IG lives and reels in my feed consistently. And her business growth has matched her visibility for sure. Since we originally aired this episode, Katy launched her yearlong mentorship program for creatives and her business has not only passed the six figure mark in revenue… it’s hit six figures in profit. If you're a coach and you can relate to Katy's struggles with fear of visibility, then this episode is definitely for you. In this episode, we'll discuss how to: 1. Conquer the fears that hold you back from showcasing your business. 2. Heal past wounds to unlock your full potential for personal growth. 3. Build a strong relationship with your inner child to expand your business horizons. 4. Embrace playfulness and creativity to thrive in today's competitive market. 5. Perform meaningful acts that bring about closure and growth during emotional healing processes. Key Points We Cover: Business Growth and Personal Growth The relationship between personal growth and business growth is profound and interconnected. Entrepreneurs' personal development directly impacts their ability to successfully grow and manage their businesses. As entrepreneurs evolve and address their limiting beliefs, they can unlock their full potential and create more opportunities for success in their professional lives. Katy’s path to increased visibility exemplifies the relationship between personal and business growth. Through self-awareness, healing past traumas, and commitment to personal growth, entrepreneurs like Katy can move past their limitations and achieve success in their businesses. Being Visible In the world of entrepreneurship, being visible is a vital aspect of success. By putting oneself out there, entrepreneurs are more likely to attract and reach their target audience, building trust and rapport with potential clients. Visibility is essential in creating brand awareness, marketing products and services, and remaining competitive in the industry. Furthermore, being visible online through various platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms has become a significant part of businesses' digital strategies, especially for entrepreneurs seeking to grow their brand and connect with potential clients. In this podcast, Katy and Dallas discuss her struggles with visibility and the challenges she has faced in putting herself out there for her money coaching business. She identifies her childhood experiences, notably a critical kindergarten teacher who stifled her creativity, as the root cause of her fear of being visible. Despite her apprehensions, she is determined to overcome her fears and be more present online through social media channels. 167. The Art and Ethics of High Ticket Offers
EMy guest today is Merel Kriegsman, a women's wealth advocate, loving mother, and creator of high-value coaching offers. I invited her to the show to talk about what it takes to sell and deliver coaching at a premium price because nobody does it better. Merel's unique approach to high-ticket offers demonstrates the perfect blend of ethics and success, proving that it's possible to create a thriving business without compromising on values. Merel dispelled the myth that the more you charge, the more stuff you have to give. She spelled out a simple and powerful way to design your premium offer. Most importantly, though… we talked about the ethical friction many of us can feel about premium pricing. Yes, it’s a highly profitable business model that makes a dramatic impact on the lives of folks who can afford it. I think our conversation will spark some ideas for you to help you decide whether or not high ticket offers work for your business. In this episode, you'll hear more about: 1. How to build high-value, high-ticket offers that leave clients in awe. 2. Why you must strengthen your wealth consciousness to break any ancestral money wounds. 3. What to ask yourself if you want to find the aligned price for you and your audience. Key Points We Cover: Why High Ticket Offers Are Valuable High ticket offers provide a unique opportunity for coaches to deliver a premium, transformative experience to their clients. Clients who invest in high-ticket coaching programs typically have higher expectations, which is why it is essential for coaches to deliver a high level of customization, intimacy, and support in their programs. Working with fewer clients at a higher price point allows coaches to focus on building strong relationships, crafting tailored solutions to each client's needs, and maintaining an effective, person-centered approach. During the podcast, Merel emphasizes the importance of aligning the value of the services offered with the price, and explains that charging higher rates allows coaches to focus on creating a positive impact for a smaller group of clients. Navigating the Intensity of High Ticket Exchanges High ticket exchanges can be intense for both coaches and clients, as both parties commit significant financial and emotional investment to the process. Successfully navigating these exchanges requires self-trust, a clear and focused vision, and a commitment to continuous improvement. During the podcast, Merel emphasizes the need for self-trust and remembering the bigger picture in the face of triggers and challenges. Dallas adds that having a plan and acting intentionally helps navigate these intense relationships. By managing these high-pressure situations effectively, coaches can create a more fulfilling and successful coaching business. If this episode is helpful, also check out: 1. 166. A Simple Plan to Nurture Your Referral Network
EIf you’d like to formalize a referral network for your coaching business and want a simple and community-focused plan, then episode 166 is for you. My guest today is Stacey O’Bryan. She helps you take quick control of your legal issues and explore all options before hiring a lawyer. Stacey is one of those people who you kinda hope you never need to hire, but boy are you grateful to have her in your corner when you do. Which is part of the opportunity and the obstacle when it comes to client attraction because Stacey helps folks who are facing a legal conflict… which at some point will be 50% of us within the next 3 years, by the way… Basically, in a way, everybody’s Stacey’s dream client… yet nobody is. Which explains why nearly all of Stacey’s clients come to her through referrals. So, Stacey wanted my help crafting a simple plan to nurture the people in her world and on her list so that when a potential legal problem does arise, she’s the first person we all think of. In this episode, you will be able to: 1. Build unshakable trust and increased recognition with regular communication tactics. 2. View everyone as a possible client or referral, maximizing networking possibilities. 3. Utilize personalized elements in communications to cement deeper connections. 4. Reap the benefits of reciprocity by seeking ways to help others progress. 5. Construct a structured framework for garnering and fostering strong referrals. Key Points We Cover: Creating a Referral Network Establishing a successful referral network is a goal for every legal coach, as it can lead to new clients and expanded business opportunities. The key ingredient is consistency – from the communication methods employed to the nurturing approach taken with potential referral sources. By focusing on insightful and value-laden content in nurturing experiences, a coach can create a network that actively generates referrals for their coaching business. During the conversation, Dallas emphasizes the importance of having a structured system for inviting and nurturing referrals, which is highly influential for any coaching business, no matter its niche. Consistent Communication Consistent communication is essential when it comes to nurturing referral partnerships. Developing a monthly content plan for communication is key. The focus should be on reinforcing one's legal expertise through value-added content, while also adding personal touches to create a memorable impression on recipients. Dallas encourages Stacey to adopt a structured approach, sending out weekly or monthly emails containing informative content and personal stories. By doing so, she can nurture relationships and trust with her network, not only increasing its reach but also its efficacy at providing new client opportunities for Stacey. Everyone is a Potential Referral Partner Embracing the mindset that everyone is a potential client and referral partner is crucial to maximizing a coaching business' referral network. This frame of mind ensures that the coach maintains an open perspective when it comes to seeking referrals, providing the opportunities to transform acquaintances into potential referral sources. During the podcast conversation, Dallas emphasizes the importance of this mindset when it comes to referrals because everyone that Stacey encounters is potentially a referral partner. Dallas emphasizes the pivotal role of referral partners in instilling confidence in potential clients by endorsing Stacey's legal expertise. 165. A Low-Tech Approach To Launch Your Membership
EIf a membership or large group program is on your to-do list this year, but you’re not sure how to get started, this episode is for you. My guest today is Dani Abernathy. She helps people write the story they need to tell so their readers can feel seen and can see others. Dani’s business has blown up a bit since she was last on the show in late 2021. In fact, she 5x’d her revenue in a year which takes my breath away. Now, Dani’s ready to scale. Which is such a buzzword these days in the online space. But what does scaling actually mean? To grow without feeling hampered. It’s not about reaching the masses. It’s about intentionally growing in a way that serves you, your lifestyle and your audience. In this episode, you will be able to: Understand the importance of crafting a compelling promise and goal before you even think about launching your membership program. Learn a hassle-free, low-tech method to deliver your program content. Consider the essential aspects of pricing your membership for optimal value and accessibility. Develop a knack for formulating a membership name that reflects its promise and your values. Key Points We Cover: The Importance of a Clear Stance A clear stance is crucial in any program, as it serves as the foundation for all other aspects of your offering. Your stance acts as a guiding philosophy, helping to determine the program's goals and the best way to convey its message to prospective clients. Without a clear stance, it's challenging to maintain coherence and consistency in the program design, making it harder for clients to understand the benefits and outcomes they can expect. Curriculum Delivery Ideally, curriculum delivery should align with the program's goals and cater to the needs and preferences of the target audience.Dani, in her conversation with Dallas, expressed uncertainty about whether to live-teach or use pre-recorded content for her initial launch. Dallas emphasized the benefits of live teaching, such as fostering stronger connections and interactions with clients. However, Dallas also recognized the value of a clear roadmap to help clients visualize their progress throughout the program's twelve-month duration. 164. Shift Your Mindset To Enjoy Your Business
EWelcome to Coaches on a Mission and thank you so much for tuning in. We spend a lot of time on this show diving into strategy. And while some mindset work sneaks in here and there, it’s not a major focus of this show. Yet, a self supportive mindset is crucial as you build your business. Putting yourself out there every day, pouring so much care and time into serving your clients, and taking on the risks that come with business building are really big deals. So, today’s episode will dive deeper into mindset work. My guest today is Lauren Litt who is the founder of Lil Shameless Plug. Lauren is on a mission to help coaches who don't like social media but know they need it for their biz to build a thriving community online. And over the last few years, her business has really grown. But Lauren feels stretched too thin without a ton of time to devote to things other than work. She came into the episode feeling aware that something inside her needs to shift so she can show up for herself the was she needs to. But neither of us were exactly sure what it might take to make that happen. But after some coaching and exploration, we discovered that it’s time for Lauren to drop her hard worker badge of honor and allow herself to receive more easily. With this discovery, we created a 3 step plan for Lauren to shift from the inside out. Here’s what that looks like: 1. Understand that no matter how deeply ingrained our self image might be, we can consciously redesign it. 2. Practice daily free form writing to uncover and release the deeply rooted beliefs that keep you stuck in a self image that may not serve you. 3. Forgive yourself for the judgments you’ve held about yourself and others. So, if you feel like the missing link between you and the next level just might be a different mindset, get ready to take some notes and explore your own self image. 163. A Marketing Plan for Folks Who Hate Marketing
EWelcome to Coaches on a Mission. I’m your host, Dallas Travers. If you enjoy this show, please take 30 seconds to follow, rate, and review it. That’s the best way to show your support because it helps us get this podcast in front of more people. My guest today is Sophee Payne who just might love coaching as much as I do. But Sophee doesn’t share my love of marketing and came to the episode fully committed to spending the least amount of time and effort on the marketing strategies with the highest ROI. Sophee helps driven people to go for the dream career they really want without letting fear, overwhelm, or uncertainty hold them back any longer. And she isn’t interested in spending her day on social media. And though that may sound like a sophisticated form of resistance, for Sophee… this decision came with a ton of intention. So, the two of us crafted a plan so Sophee could expand her business with simplicity and ease. Here’s what we came up with: Step 1: Give yourself permission to spend your marketing time the way you want to. It’s your business, after all. Step 2: Before you choose a marketing plan, decide how you want to feel as you market your business. Step 3: Let that feeling lead the way. Identify the actions that align with the way you want to feel. Step 4: If you do decide to walk a different marketing path, decide consciously what you’ll do instead of things like social media marketing. I had so much fun talking with Sophee during our recording and I hope you have fun listening. 162. Think Big. Start Small. Stay Steady.
EHey folks. Dallas Travers here. Thank you for tuning into ‘coaches on a mission. We’ve got another podcast takeover happening this week and I cannot wait for you to hear from these two extraordinary coaches. Last episode, two newer hive members took over and you really got to hear how the structure, training and community have helped them so deeply just over the past few months. This week, I invited two coaches who have worked with me for a few years so you can really get a sense of what’s possible for you and for your business when you commit to the Ripple Effect System. Speaking of that, I’ve got a free workshop happening on April 25 and again on the 26th to teach you how to apply the Ripple Effect System in your coaching business so you can stop hodge-podging endless strategies together and instead take steady, authentic action to build a business you’re super proud of. So, go ahead and hit pause on this episode for a second and visit dallastraverstraining.com to grab your spot for this free, live training. After you do that, come on back and listen to Brian Patacca and Michelle Pollack share their inspiring (yet simple) journeys toward a six figure business. Brian Patacca helps actors get what they want without suffering and Michelle Pollack works with high achieving women to own what they bring to the table and live & lead on their terms. You are in for such a treat, so I’m going to stop talking now and hand the mic over to Michelle and Brian. Wish them luck!! 161. Let Community Unlock Your Success Superpower
EHey folks. Dallas Travers here. Welcome to the first ever podcast takeover episode. I invited two tremendous coaches and fabulous human beings to grab the mic and record an episode without me. Why would I do that… very good question… especially considering my controlling tendencies. But it’s for a good reason. TODAY is the first day you can register for a free workshop I’ll host next week. It’s called the Ripple Effect System and it's for Coaches Who Want a Simple Path to Find More Clients, Become More Visible, and Grow the RIGHT Way. And I'm just going to warn you now that this is not some free webinar where I promise you six figures in six weeks. I’m also not going to promise you 10K instagram followers if you just post reels for 30 days. Building reliable success as a coach requires work. Anyone saying otherwise is so not giving you the full picture. But that work can be so much simpler than you’ve likely been making it up until now. Because most coaches haven’t ever been taught the business and marketing fundamentals that simply must be in place if you ever want your business to grow. But never fear, that’s what you’ll learn when you join me at the Ripple Effect system workshop. I’ll host the class twice: April 25th and April 26th. And you can grab your free spot now at dallastraverstraining.com. Toward the end of the free training, I’ll also invite you to join me inside The Hive, which is my year long mentorship program for values driven coaches. Which is why I invited Shay and Dannie to take over the podcast today. I thought it would be super cool for you to hear from two coaches just like you who learned the ripple effect system only a few months ago. They’ve applied it and their businesses are moving forward at the perfect pace. Before we dive into the episode, let me share a bit about our two hosts. Shay Leonia is a music career strategist who helps musicians get the work out into the world the smart way and Dannie Jernigan helps birth workers heal through writing so they can serve their communities in a more powerful way. These two are really going to spill the tea today, so with that… let’s get into it. TIMESTAMPS 05:00 Dannie shares what attracted her to The Hive 07:38 Shay shares what attracted her to The Hive 11:25 Dannie shares her successes while in The Hive 14:30 Shay shares the major “AHA” Dannie has had while in the Hive 15:35 Shay shares her successes while in The Hive 17:20 Shay shares the intangible result that has meant the most 17:45 Shay and Dannie share stories about breakthroughs they had during or because of a coaching call with Dallas 20:40 Dannie and Shay discuss how Dallas is client-centered and value-centered in her approach and the benefits 21:15 Dannie and Shay discuss the value of the Live coaching calls with Dallas well as co-working sessions with other coaches 24:00 Dannie and Shay discuss other facets of The Hive that make it unique from other coaching programs 30:00 They discuss “If a listener is on the fence about joining, what specifically would you share to help them feel great about their decision to apply for The Hive?” 33:03 Dannie and Shay discuss the benefits of accountability partners Sign Up for The Ripple Effect System Class: www.dallastraverstraining.com CONNECT WITH SHAY: TIKTOK: www.tiktok.com/@shayleonia CONNECT WITH DANNIE: INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/daniellejerniganauthor/ CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: https://.instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor/
160. 6 Steps to Stand Out in a Crowded Market
EYou're listening to Coaches on a Mission - I’m your host Dallas Travers and today, we need to have a real conversation about how you can avoid what Jona Xiao calls The Sea of Sameness. If you ever worry that too many coaches do what you do and there’s nothing that really makes you special, this episode just might blow your mind. My guest is Jennifer Jakobsen who helps business owners who want to make a difference slay their self doubt and desperation so they can show up with the kind of authenticity that attracts paying clients over and over again. Jennifer came into our conversation with a simple question…How can I leverage my strengths, skills, and background to stand out in a crowded market? Well dear listener, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed… but we business coaches coaching other coaches on how to find coaching clients… We’re kind of everywhere. And Jennifer had a hunch that she was making marketing harder than it had to be simply because she couldn’t quite pinpoint what exactly makes her special. Before I hand Jennifer the mic, let me share the six steps we designed to help her stand out in a crowded market. Step 1: Identify what you want your clients to celebrate when they wrap up your work together? Step 2: Clarify the thing that holds them back from their goal. Step 3: Choose a specific snapshot in time that illustrates where your dream client is at when they’re ready to hire you. The clearer the better on this one. Step 4: Name the skills, perspectives, experience and expertise you bring to the table to help your clients accomplish their goals. Step 5: With those things in mind, what process would you take a client through to get them from where they stand today to the goal they hope to celebrate in the future. Step 6: Own your Blue Ocean - the unique place in your industry that only you occupy and where competitors don’t exist. All right… this episode was one of my favorites in a while. So, let’s take a listen, shall we? TIMESTAMPS 05:25 Dallas summarizes Jennifer’s goal for this coaching session 06:45 Jennifer and Dallas discuss the results Jennifer wants her clients to celebrate 09:00 Jennifer identifies what is holding her clients back from their goals. 10:45 Dallas explains the Awareness Ladder 12:35 Dallas asks Jennifer to describe a snapshot in time when clients are ready to hire her. 14:00 Dallas describes the two ways to answer Jennifer’s question of “How do I leverage my strengths to stand out in a crowded market?” 18:35 Dallas develops a working DCPS for Jennifer 19:17 Dallas asks Jennifer, based on the working DCPS they developed, what specific skills and experience she brings to the table that no one else does 21:30 Dallas summarizes Jennifer’s specific skills and experience 23:25 Dallas describes the process Jennifer would take a client through to get them to their celebration goal 25:05 Jennifer and Dallas discuss ways to integrate her as a business therapist into this process 32:35 Dallas and Jennifer discuss steps to take to land on a specific type of business owner 34:25 Dallas refines Jennifer’s working DCPS and discuss how to use it 37:25 Dallas discusses the next step is to own your blue ocean and what that means. 38:50 Jennifer discusses her next steps. EHey there. I’m Dallas Travers. Thanks for tuning in to coaches on a mission. I created this show to help you - a values driven coach build a business that makes a difference - for your clients, for you, and for the people you love in your life. One thing I say often is that you cannot build a business with free stuff you find on the internet. That includes this podcast - even though every episode is rich with insight and tangible actions… it’s not the same as following a structured, proven, values-aligned path that leaves out all the guesswork. Which is why I’d love to invite you to apply to join The Hive. This is a year long mentorship program designed to give you the step by step tools and actions you need to really do this coaching thing. If that sounds dreamy… I can’t wait to talk with you. You can apply to join the hive and book a 1:1 call with me directly at dallastravers.com/apply. Now… let me introduce you to today’s guest. Janet’s private client roster is pretty full so she’s ready to create a course so she can help even more people. So, Janet and I talked through whether or not she’s ready to launch a course, how to co-create a course with students instead of waiting to launch a finished product and hope folks buy it, and who the ideal client for her course truly is. This conversation is jam-packed with action steps you can apply to your own business. If expanding beyond 1:1 coaching is on your to-do list this year, get ready to take some notes and apply the 3x course strategy on your own. 158. 4 Steps to Find the Magic Words to Describe Your Work
EMy guest today is Corinne Gavlinksi and while this is the part of the intro where I would normally tell you who Corinne serves and how… I’m not going to because that’s the very thing she and I coached around during the episode. What I can tell you is that Corinne has years of experience as a corporate coach and she just needed some outside eyes on what, inside The Hive, we call your Dream Client Power Statement (DCPS), which is a succinct and super clear way to describe your dream clients and how you help them. And while Corinne had done her homework and landed on a DCPS that ticked all the boxes, it didn’t light her up and make her feel excited. The good news is that we totally got there toward the end of the episode and her Dream Client Power Statement is really, really, good. We ran Corinne’s new and improved DCPS through what I call the Lyft Ride Litmus Test. Imagine that your signature system or DCPS is written out on a sheet of paper that you left on the seat of your Uber or Lyft. If the next person to hop in the car can read the page and totally understand what the heck you're talking about, you pass the litmus test. So, listen to the episode and follow along to craft your own Dream Client Power Statement. From there, be sure to run it through the Lyft Ride Litmus test. I hope you enjoy! TIMESTAMPS 04:13 Dallas and Corinne agree on their goals for the conversation: nail her Dream Client Power Statement and name her signature system. 05:07 Corinne describes the current process she uses with her clients. 07:18 Corinne describes her Dream Clients in detail. 11:18 Dallas begins to take Corinne through a DCPS discovery process. Step One: Discuss the needs of your clients with someone else who will note themes or words that come up more than once. 15:08 Dallas and Corinne hop into a discussion about Corinne’s signature system and focus on clarity instead of cleverness. 16:00 Now, back to Corinne’s DCPS. Step Two: Organize the steps so they can pass the Lyft Ride Litmus Test 16:30 Step Three: List steps of process with simple and obvious words 17:00 The two discuss possible names for Corinne’s signature system 18:50 Dallas explains The Awareness Ladder using Corinne’s audience as an example. 22:55 Dallas summarizes the steps to naming a signature system: 1:Think through what are the unconscious tools that you as a coach use OR the natural progression of steps clients go through. 2: Organize those steps in a way that can pass the Lyft Ride Litmus Test. 3: Give yourself permission to be simple and obvious. 4: Let it percolate. Always ask yourself: Are these my words or are these my client’s words? 25:21 Dallas and Corinne explore her Dream Client Power Statement for the last time. 31:55 The two discuss the importance of having 3-4 case studies ready to help explain her work when folks ask “how do you do that?”. 33:45 Dallas and Corinne wrap up by addressing a few lingering questions. 157. Are You Brave Enough To Own Your Niche?
EOne thing I say often is that you cannot build a business with free stuff you find on the internet. That includes this podcast - even though every episode is rich with insight and tangible actions… it’s not the same as following a structured, proven, values-aligned path that leaves out all the guesswork. You can apply to join the hive and book a 1:1 call with me directly at dallastravers.com/apply. Now… let me introduce you to today’s guest. Her name is Trudi Remer and the work she is up to is so very important. Trudi helps folks feel their big feelings so they can finally answer the question, “what’s next for me?”. Trudi is so skilled at holding space for people in grief. Yet, she’s also seen that most folks… they don't want to talk about grief. Grief is taboo in American culture, so Trudi has struggled to find the right marketing message to draw people in. Yet Trudi knows that a huge part of her mission is to normalize grief… to bring it into the light. And I think Trudi gave herself permission to do just that by the end of our conversation today. Now, put your coaching ears on as you listen because you’re going to notice how resistance came up for Trudi and worked to distract her from her mission. We had a real breakthrough moment during this recording and I hope it inspires you to be a little more brave about your niche and how you share your mission. TIMESTAMPS 4:23 Trudi kicks things off by stating she got “stuck” on her first Client Surge experience and wants this time to be a successful Client Surge 5:00 Dallas shares details about Trudi’s first Client Surge experience 6:13 Dallas asks Trudi to identify 1-3 key elements that she needs in order to be set up for success 6:40 Trudi discusses the 2 key elements: Needs better definition of the messaging and better followthrough with potential Referral Ambassadors even if feels rejected 9:05 Trudi requests to work on messaging to herself not message to others 10:10 Dallas explains the three tracks the Client Surge process follows 10:58 Dallas asks Trudi what message she needs for herself in order to develop a message to attract potential clients 18:05 Dallas summarizes what Trudi needs to do this round of Client Surge even if it makes her uncomfortable 20:13 Trudi asks Dallas “How do I focus on people who are not in need of a counselor but in need of a coach?” 23:00 Dallas summarizes Trudi’s Dream Client Power Statement 23:42 Dallas suggests wording improvements for requests to Referral Ambassadors to avoid a rejection response 25:20 Dallas suggests sending verbiage to Referral Ambassadors to use when looking for referrals 26:32 Trudi summarizes the action steps from their discussion 29:55 Dallas and Trudi discuss other ways to ensure Trudi has a successful Client Surge 33:20 Dallas summarizes the follow-up steps she will have with Trudi during this Client Surge CONNECT WITH TRUDI: WEBSITE: www.adventureafter.com CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: https://.instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor/ FREE QUIZ: https://dallastravers.com/quiz
EP 156. Price Your Offers With Intention
EWelcome to Coaches on a Mission - The place to be for values driven coaches who want to build a business you’re truly proud of. Today, we’re going to talk about how to price your offers. “What should I charge?” is one of the most common questions coaches ask me. And if I’m being honest, I don’t see a lot of people bringing real intentionality to their pricing structure. Instead, they just charge what they see other coaches charging. Or they charge whatever number they can say without breaking into a sweat. Neither approach is truly values-aligned, so today, I”m going to share a 6 step process to help you land on perfect match pricing that matches your goals and feels really aligned. My guest today is Saisha Ma who helps leaders develop one of a kind leadership skills to shift their energy and nurture the growth of the organization plus the people within it. Like a lot of coaches, Saisha used to price her offers based on each client’s budget. And what she wanted was an authentic and reliable system for pricing so she never again under-values her work or just pulls a price out of the sky. If you’re nodding your head right now because you’ve done the exact thing before, this episode is for you. Let’s get into it. TIMESTAMPS 02:35 Saisha asks how to price her programs while holding to her values. 06:38 The two discuss Saisha’s current price points and offers. 07:58 Step One: Determine the fixed costs for delivering the programs. 13:35 Step Two: Consider the energetic costs and define what energetic costs are. 16:40 Step Three: Ask yourself “What do I want to pay myself?” 22:50 Dallas discusses how a Price Accessibility Program might fit into Saisha’s pricing model and what things to consider before rolling such a program out. 25:48 Dallas asks Saisha: What questions do you want to ask yourself around bringing a formal structure to price accessibility? 31:00 Dallas asks Saisha to summarize the process they developed together. 34:45 The two address a few lingering questions about operating costs and multiple offers. 155. 7 Steps to Design Your Membership
EInside The Hive, we practice The Ripple Effect System which is all about building your business out in layers so you can gain true traction, make more money, and feel less stress. The system starts with finding clients, then becoming more visible, and finally scaling with a course, membership, mastermind, or large group program. My guest today is ready to scale. Her name is Jolea Payne and she helps social impact leaders build thriving organizations that center community and deliver high-impact programming without burning themselves out. Jolea finds that a lot of leaders in non-profit don’t really have the budget to invest in private coaching, plus they often feel isolated, so a membership is the perfect solution to both of those problems. Here are the 7 Steps Jolea and I laid out to ensure that Jolea builds a membership that’s truly valuable rather than filled with a bunch of fluff. 1. Identify the core promise of the membership 2. Pinpoint each milestone members will hit as they progress toward that promise 3. Outline the core content inside the membership 4. Create a production schedule so nobody feels swamped at launch time 5. Design a launch plan… this is something we cover in great detail inside The Hive, so if a course or membership launch is in your future… make sure to apply to join us at https://dallastravers.com/apply 6. Clarify what, if any, additional support members will need in order to be successful and feel empowered inside the program. 7. Set a launch date to make the plan feel real. On top of setting her members up for success, we made sure Jolea would be successful with her launch as well. And I think we accomplished both goals by the end of the episode. I hope you’ve got a pen and fresh paper to take some notes because this episode is super juicy. Enjoy it! TIMESTAMPS 03:38 Jolea kicks things off by asking how to build out her membership program. 07:50 Dallas shares the lessons she learned from the mistakes she made with her former membership program. 10:40: Dallas and Jolea outline the core milestones that members need to hit so Jolea can design her membership around those milestones. 12:15: Step One: Identify the core promise of the membership. 15:15: Step Two: Determine the milestones members will hit as they move toward the membership promise. 19:20 : Step Three: Outline the core content inside the membership. 31:25 Step Four: Create a loose production schedule to create the core content. 35:05: Step Five: Design a membership launch plan. 37:25 Step Six: Clarify any additional support members might need to be successful. 50:40 Step Seven: Set a launch date to make the plan feel real. 154. How to Speak to Two Different Dream Clients
EI have to confess that I came into recording this episode feeling really confident about the direction the conversation would take. And I was completely wrong. My guest is Amanda Meri who helps two very different groups of people. Inside her Gut Healing Academy, Amanda helps folks reverse their chronic illness by healing their guts. The second group Amanda serves doesn’t struggle with chronic illness. But they want to boost their energy and eat the food they love without gaining weight, getting bloated, or having any pain. So, the question Amanda had for me was “How do I market two businesses at one time?” My answer before our conversation was, “Well, you don’t. It’s twice the work for you and too confusing for your audience. Yet… as Amanda shared her motivation to serve both audiences and strong stance that merging them just wouldn’t work, I came around. The result kinda sorta blew my mind because the two of us were actually able to find a simple way for Amanda to attract, nurture, and convert both dream clients without a ton of extra work on her part and without confusing folks. If, like Amanda, you serve two very distinct audiences in two very different ways, this episode will be a game changer for you. I hope you enjoy it. TIMESTAMPS 00:03:10 Amanda shares her two different offers designed to serve two different audiences. 00:08:10 Dallas challenges Amanda’s assumption that the two audiences really are different and discovers that Amanda is right. 00:09:40 Dallas brainstorms her vision for how Amanda can rely on the same process to speak to two different audiences. 00:15:10 The two discuss why it’s essential that every piece of content used applies to both audiences. 00:18:35 Dallas talks about how the framework with Content Confidence can be applied to Amanda’s two audiences. 00:26:25 Dallas shares the original goal and summarizes the approach they defined to accomplish talking to two different audiences using one signature system. 00:34:25 Dallas discusses Amanda’s dream client power statement for both audiences. 153. How to Uncover Your Unique Signature System
EHey all my life coaches, authenticity coaches, health coaches, confidence coaches, everybody out there who’s really good at listening to your client and offering up custom tools or insight that completely transforms their lives… this episode is for you. Because I’m willing to bet that you haven’t given much thought to your signature process because no two clients are the same and no two coaching sessions look alike. That's probably what you love so much about the work you do. Yet… those of us in the moment, meet the client where they’re at and help them move forward kinda coaches can sometimes struggle to find the words to accurately represent the work we do. Nothing can really come close, yet if the only way to truly understand the power of our work is through experiencing it… self promotion and marketing can be a struggle. This struggle is such an important hurdle to address that I decided to bring back a special episode featuring Leigh Cambre. He helps optimistic overachievers find balance and room to breathe without losing their edge. And Leigh is truly an excellent coach with a lot of training under his belt and tools in his pocket. Which made it difficult for Leigh to find a catchy slogan or marketing jargon to describe his work. Which, in turn, can make it difficult to bring in more clients. So, Leigh and I walked through a pretty cool exercise that revealed his signature process. We even gave it a name - The Cambre Method. Now, does Leigh’s bright, shiny signature process cover everything he does for his clients? Nope. Does it come close… you better believe it. If you’re a coach whose work covers a broad range of results and your biggest strength is your ability to simply serve your clients, grab a pen and extra paper because I hope you’ll follow along with my conversation with Leigh to create your signature process too. 152. Raise Your Voice. Write A Book.
EMy guest today is Jennie Nash who is the founder and CEO of Author Accelerator, a company that trains, certifies, and supports book coaches so they can help writers do their best work. I invited Jennie to the show for many reasons. First, she has really mastered the art of delivering as a coach and course creator. Her Author accelerator program truly is unmatched. We are lucky enough to have a little cohort of AA coaches inside The Hive and they all sing Jennie’s praises. So, I knew she was someone I wanted to know. Secondly, Jennie is super smart and really committed to helping us all raise our voices and tell our stories through book writing. Her own coaching clients have landed top New York agents and six-figure book deals with traditional publishing houses such as Penguin, Scribner, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette. They’ve also won dozens of national indie book awards. And her Client KJ Dell’Antonia’s novel, The Chicken Sisters, was an instant New York Times bestseller and Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick. Jennie and I had a really enlivening conversation about why every coach should write a book, what it really takes to write a GOOD book, and of course we dish about the books on our nightstands right now. You should know that Jennie herself is the author of 11 books in 3 genres, including Blueprint for a Nonfiction Book: Plan and Pitch Your Idea and Blueprint for a Book: Build Your Novel from the Inside Out. Visit her at authoraccelerator.com and jennienash.com And if you are a coach on a mission, which I know you are or you wouldn’t be listening, get ready to get inspired to raise your own voice. I even had a breakthrough during this interview and Jennie’s got my wheels turning on my next book. She’s just that good. Here’s Jennie Nash! BOOKS WE MENTIONED: This Is Not A Book About Benedict Cumberbatch by Tabitha Carvan Your Invisible Network by Michael Urtuzuástegu Melcher (one of Jennie's clients) A Taste of Opportunity by Renee Guilbault (another client of Jennies!) 151. If You Ever Doubt Yourself — Listen to This
EGrab your tissues folks, because today’s episode is a bit of a tear jerker! I’m in a bit of a crying mood these days, so we’re rebroadcasting one of my all time favorite episodes. I am so impressed with Angela Vorpahl, today’s guest. She brought so much clarity and vulnerability to the episode, I know her struggle is something that most of us wrestle with. So, it was just an honor to coach her during this session. Angela helps law students get good grades, plain and simple. Yet, not so simple because Angela knows that good grades aren’t the true benefit her clients get. It’s the stuff that comes with good grades like opportunities, confidence, choices, and freedom. So, Angela felt some friction around how to talk about her work. She’s also been wrestling with the same fears and inner critic stuff we all deal with. Inside the episode, Angela and I uncover the parts of her that have felt undeserving or less than. And we worked to give those parts a voice so she can let them go. Our conversation was very moving for me. And yes, I still found time to talk strategy given the insights we gained when Angela went deep. If you ever feel like an outsider or worry that you and your work doesn’t matter, please listen to this incredible conversation. I hope you enjoy it. 150. Meet My Accountability Partner
EI am so proud and excited to introduce you to this week’s guest. She’s Alli Ball, a course creator, coach, consultant and mentor who I have had the pleasure of talking to nearly every Monday morning for the last 3 years. Alli is also my accountability partner. We were both a part of the same mastermind back at the end of 2019. Even before we met in person, Alli agreed to weekly accountability check-ins and the rest is history, as they say. I invited Alli to the show so we could take you behind the scenes of an accountability partnership that really works. You’ll hear Alli and I talk about how we structure our weekly check-ins, what tools we use to build accountability with our team, and our surprisingly different approach to accountability and planning. Be sure to stick around until the end because Alli took over the interviewer’s mic to interview me. She asked me 5 surprise questions I did not expect and my answers… they might surprise you. Before we dive in, let me tell you about my friend. Alli Ball is the founder and CEO of Retail Ready - this incredibly smart online course that helps packaged food founders get on retail shelves and increase their sales once they’re there. Alli has consulted with retail stores across the US to train grocery buying teams on category review practices, increasing sales, launching private label brands, and fine-tuning operations for multimillion-dollar departments. Alli is just one of those rare people who has a genuine interest in others. She’s generous with her time, her ideas, and her incredible listening skills. I just think the world of her and feel really grateful to call her my friend. Now, let’s talk accountability partnerships, shall we? TIMESTAMPS: 00:03:00 - How and why Alli and Dallas became accountability partners 00:05:00 - Why they have continued as accountability partners for three years 00:11:00 - The biggest thing that has surprised them 00:13:00 - How Dallas put the invitation out when she was looking for accountability 00:15:00 - The format of and how they prepare for their accountability meetings 00:25:00 - Tools that Alli uses with her team so she doesn’t feel like she’s micromanaging 00:32:00 - Alli takes the interview seat and asks Dallas a round of speed questions 00:40:00 - Dallas and Alli each share one thing they want everyone looking for an accountability to know CONNECT WITH ALLI: INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/itsalliball/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/AllisonBallConsulting/ PODCAST: https://www.alliball.com/foodbizwiz CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor FREE QUIZ: https://dallastravers.com/quiz
149. Should You Ditch Your Email List?
EDo You Ever worry that your email list hates getting emails? It’s a valid question, I suppose. Yet, everywhere we turn, we hear how important list building is if you ever want to expand beyond 1:1 coaching. In fact, our last episode was about this very thing. But what if your target audience just doesn’t dig email? Maybe they're the texting kind or just too darn busy to pay much attention to their inbox. That’s kinda the case for Valerie Recore who was on the show back on episode #112 Valerie helps overwhelmed and overcommitted moms stop feeling pulled in too many directions and start spending quality time with their families and on themselves. And in our previous episode we designed a lead magnet for Valerie. And now that Valerie has started building her list, she wants to make sure that she’s able to nurture her new subscribers in a way that they’ll appreciate. So, Valerie and I had to think outside the inbox. Yes, you’re correct… that was an honest attempt at the first and definitely the last pun I’ll ever say on this podcast. Okay… back to Valerie. Today, you’re going to hear us solve Valerie’s email engagement problem by layering in Text messaging so that the busy moms on her list can more easily engage with her incredible content. I have a feeling that our conversation just might spark some fresh ideas for you, so let’s get going… Here’s Valerie! 148. Build Your List to Find More Clients
ELet’s talk about the #1 thing standing between you and all the clients you want. It’s your list. Sometimes the answer to finding more clients is to build your list. And that’s the truth for my guest today. Michelle Cox who has a very clear vision about where she wants to take her business. That vision looks like: —8-10 private clients —1-2 VIP Days each month —1 small group and maybe a membership down the road. This vision is totally possible for Michelle and for you. But only if you make list building your top priority. Why? Because 1-3% of your list will end up becoming customers. So, if you can’t find customers, it’s probably a sign that list building has fallen to the wayside. Today, Michelle and I crafted a simple plan of (boring) habits she can repeat, every week, in order to become more visible and build her list. None of it is complicated or fancy, but it is essential because if Michelle wants to work with 16 clients, she needs a list of 1600 subscribers. So, as you listen along, think about your client-getting goal. Do your list building efforts match that number? TIMESTAMPS: 00:05:00 - Michelle shares the longer term vision for her business 00:08:00 - The difference between outcomes and offers 00:09:00 - Dallas asks Michelle what she believes is standing between her and that vision 00:11:00 - One of the biggest mistakes that Dallas sees coaches making 00:15:00 - Together, Dallas + Michelle put together a repeatable plan to support her list building habits 00:29:00 - Dallas speaks to why and how Michelle could focus on podcast guesting 00:36:00 - They create a process for moving subscribers into a discovery call 00:42:00 - The one thing standing between Michelle and all of the clients she wants CONNECT WITH MICHELLE: WEBSITE: https://www.bookcoachingworks.com INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/michellemeltoncox_bookcoach/ CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor FREE QUIZ: https://dallastravers.com/quiz
147. My Big Breakup
EThis episode is really special to me because I’m saying goodbye to The Hive’s beloved Client Success Manager - Kyley Cienfuegos. Kyley and I have worked together for about a decade and it just felt super important to me to bring her on the show to honor her. We also wanted to take you behind-the-scenes so you can understand why she’s making a move after all these years. Plus we’re going to break down what it really takes to run an online program rooted in the value of BELONGING. Kyley and I also dish on some little known facts about each other and of course… we both cried, but just a bit. Today’s episode is a special one because we’re going to tackle the most common question I get asked...which is, “how can I find more paying clients?” But I’m not going to answer that question for you. Instead, I’ve invited four coaches, just like you, to do it. We first aired this episode back in 2020 but I wanted to bring it back because enrollment for client surge is now open. 144. My Best Advice to Sell without Being Salesy
ELet’s talk about what the heck to do at the end of a sales call when a potential client says.. “Maybe, let me think about it.” A couple of days ago we talked about the importance of really centering the client which means presenting a clear invitation at the end of every single sales call. The intention is to give the client the dignity of their own process and, truthfully, some people need time. Whether they need to talk to a partner, move money around, or they need to just think things through. So in this episode, I will introduce you to an extremely powerful tool to help you gracefully serve those folks who truly just need to take a beat before they decide AND to help you do so in a way where you don’t feel like some sort of weird stalker. Sounds great, huh? Let’s dive in! 143. The Art of Client Centered Selling
EWe are here today with another mini lesson in honor of Client Surge enrollment doors being open. You can grab your spot now for our January cohort at https://joinclientsurge.com/. Today I want to jump on my soapbox again because it's just so important and a total game changer. If you are a values-driven coach and you find that you don't quite feel like yourself when you're selling, I’m here to tell you the secret to more clients without feeling awkward, nervous or pushy is… pretty simple… Center The Client Not Yourself. Focus on how you can truly serve them without worrying about… …Do they like me? …Can they afford me? …Are they ready? …What are they thinking? …Am I being too pushy? …Should I change my prices? Any of that sound familiar? All of that is self-centered. You're a coach because you love helping people and you want the confidence and the freedom and all of those wonderful things that come when you have a successful coaching business. That can't happen if you don't get this selling piece down. And the way you get the selling piece down is to advocate for the client in the same way that you would if they were already paying you as your coach. Ready to learn how? Okay, let’s get to it. TIMESTAMPS: 00:01:30 - What is client centered selling? 00:03:00 - A story about a previous “Surger” who learned the importance of client center selling 00:05:00 - How you may be actually make it harder for potential clients to say yes 00:06:00 - The difference between client and self centered selling 00:08:00 - The difference between overcoming objections and addressing concerns 00:09:00 - How “scarcity tactics” are a self centered sales call approach 00:14:00 - Why you should be KIND and not POLITE 00:17:00 - Advocating for your client’s success and how that can change everything about your sales calls and their outcomes CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor ENROLL IN CLIENT SURGE: https://joinclientsurge.com/ TEST DRIVE MODULE 1 OF CLIENT SURGE: https://joinclientsurge.com/testdrive

It's a proven process designed to help you sign 7 paying clients in about thirty days which I think is probably the perfect way to kick off the New Year. 141. The Simple Way to Design Your Course
Today we’re going to simplify the course creation process. My guest is Julie Artz who finds herself in a bit of a funky place in her business… Julie is a book coach who serves social and environmental justice-minded story geeks who understand that books change lives with a combination of craft knowledge, industry smarts, strategic planning, and tough love. Julie is extremely busy with a waitlist for private clients. Yet, she is very committed to creating price accessibility so those folks who may not have the ability to pay her private client rates can still get their books written and out in the world. At the same time, Julie really doesn’t have time to build out a course. So, what’s a book coach to do? Well, the two of us put our heads together to design what I’m going to call a B- version of a course. One that delivers a lot of value without requiring a lot of set up. We looked at the specific things that make Julie’s private coaching work really well and simply asked ourselves, “how can we recreate the best possible version of this inside a group?” And guess what, in less than 45 minutes, Julie and I designed a pretty rock solid group program that she’s going to be able to get off the ground in a matter of weeks. Which is just so exciting. So, if you are somewhere in the in-between… not quite ready to build a full blown course but unable to bring on any more private clients… you’re going to get so much from this episode. Let’s get down to it. TIMESTAMPS: 00:02:00 - Julie shares her hope to expand her offers so that what she does is more accessible without compromising the experience for herself or her clients 00:05:30 - Together they talk through the ideas Julie currently has to accomplish this goal 00:08:00 - Dallas shares another idea she has for Julie for the future 00:11:00 - Julie shares that she has resistance to a membership because she’s concerned about finding a way to deeply engage with her members without becoming overwhelmed 00:13:00 - Dallas tells a story about a belief she used to have around private coaching 00:15:30 - Together, they write a list of characteristics + circumstances that make private coaching so juicy, so they can then find a way to replicate that inside a membership 00:24:00 - Dallas proposes the idea of support / critique groups inside the membership 00:29:00 - Julie + Dallas brainstorm around an idea to share and celebrate achievements each week 00:32:00 - Julie shares her signature system and how to incorporate that into the membership 00:38:00 - They work through a way to include audits/reviews into her membership 00:41:00 - Dallas proposes the idea of hiring another book coach to come in and help with the quarterly audits 00:45:00 - Dallas breaks down each piece of the program they outlined and how it’s incredibly high value but still low lift 00:47:30 - Julie talks through her next few action steps to make this program happen 00:52:00 - Dallas clearly summarizes Julie’s actions steps and what you can take away from their conversation CONNECT WITH JULIE: WEBSITE: https://julieartz.com/ INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/julieartz/ CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor FREE QUIZ: https://dallastravers.com/quiz
140. Marisa Corcoran's Proven Formula to Write Better Copy
ELast week, I worked with Erin Young to uncover an authentic way to convey her marketing message without creating confusion or compromising authentic connection. And, we referenced the work of Marisa Corcoran quite a bit during our conversation. In particular Marisa’s super smart approach to storytelling in your copy. She calls it The Story Strip Down and it’s a method I rely on quite a bit. So, this week, I figured we should re-air one of our early episodes back when this show was still called The Six Figure Coach Podcast because The Story Strip Down is just so darn good. In fact, Marisa Corcoran who just might be the most clever person I know. Not only is she a talented copywriter and teacher, she also models what it looks like to run a values driven business. In this episode, Marisa coaches me through her Story Strip Down process to help me be less of a stiff professor in my copy and more… well… me. If you want to discover what to say and how to say it so you can magnetically attract your dream clients, you need Marisa Corcoran in your corner... 139. Two Important Skills You Need In Your Marketing
EToday’s episode will help you leverage two important marketing skills. Narrating + Story telling. That’s what my guest, Erin Young discovered when we dove into her Signature System to uncover the simplest and most compelling way to convey her message in her marketing. Now I know that narrating and story telling sound like they’re the same thing, but they’re different in this context. Narrating occurs when you explain exactly what you’re doing while it’s happening. Storytelling helps your audience understand your work more deeply because they’re able to see themselves in the stories you tell. If you ever feel like nobody quite understands what exactly you do. Or maybe you lean too hard into being a professor instead of storytelling… Perhaps you just want to be able to layer more creativity and connection into your marketing… either way… you’re going to love the conversation I had with Erin. Erin Young helps natural health practitioners share their craft authentically, moving beyond the grind with purpose, stability, calm and connection. But Erin’s niche is evolving and her Signature System felt confusing. But when we let go of the idea that her target audience needs to fit a certain occupation, Erin discovered that Sometimes the best way to define our ideal client is defining the moment of time they are in. I’ll confess that I came into the conversation feeling a little nervous because inside The Hive Erin and I have struggled a bit to pin down her signature system. But everything clicked in this episode and I cannot wait for you to hear the breakthroughs we both had. 138. Be More Visible on Youtube with Malasia Johnson
EToday is the day you and I are finally going to launch that Youtube channel we’ve both been thinking about. My guest is Malasia Johnson whose superpower is helping creators build a life they want and entrepreneurs become known on YouTube. Malasia and I got right down to business because… Selfishly, I’ve always wanted to be one of those coaches with a beautiful weekly longform youtube series shot in HD with a big production crew and all the bells and whistles. Which is precisely why I don’t have a youtube channel to speak of. But Malasia breaks the process down into tangible steps and she is so good at tackling the mindset crap that blocks us from being more visible. Even if you’re not at all interested in being a YouTuber, you’ll love Malasia’s interview because her insights apply no matter what platform you want to become more visible on. Okay… let’s dive in. 137. Own The Power of Your Work
EWhat do you say when someone asks you what you do? A lot of coaches over explain. Or they speak in Coachy language instead of real world language. Or even undersell the value their work has on the world. I know I’m guilty of that last one. And so was today’s guest, Brandon Wilcox who has spent most of his life developing a deep and meaningful spiritual practice. And today, Brandon helps his clients truly transform their lives by sharing the tools he’s cultivated over the years. Brandon’s work is the real deal… yet the way he talked about the work… well… it was kinda bland and even a bit confusing. So that’s the first thing he and I got to during today’s sessions. During the episode Brandon and I: 1. nailed down accurate and clear language to explain who he helps and how 2. dug into his offers to ensure that they’ll attract aligned clients 3. even brainstormed content Brandon can share that truly represents all he’s capable of without confusing folks This is a jam packed episode, so if you worry - even a little bit - that people don't quite get what it is you do, you simply must tune in. Enjoy! TIMESTAMPS: 00:06:00 - Dallas and Brandon dig into his “Dream Client Power Statement” (aka DCPS) 00:11:00 - Dallas walks Brandon through the awareness ladder and how his audience may need to be solution aware in order to be ready to work with him 00:14:30 - Brandon determines his next steps to “test drive” his new DCPS 00:16:00 - Brandon shares some new clarity he found around his offers 00:23:00 - Why you should add the “so that” and storytelling into each of your offers 00:29:00 - The importance of explicitly asking potential clients what their concerns are 00:33:00 - Dallas shares what coaching package she’s seen have the highest conversion and longest retention 00:40:00 - Together, they dig into Brandon’s messaging to clarify and simplify the content he shares with his audience 00:52:00 - Brandon shares his biggest takeaway and the actions items from their conversation CONNECT WITH BRANDON: WEBSITE: https://brandonjwilcox.com/membership INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/awakenwbrandon/ CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor FREE QUIZ: https://dallastravers.com/quiz
136. The Most Important Part of Any Marketing Strategy
EWe’re going to talk about the most important thing you can do to sign more clients. It’s kind of obvious… and yet… it’s THE THING that most of us go out of our way to avoid. I have a little confession for you about today’s episode…but first, let me introduce our guest. Julie Scott helps stuck, uninspired, people pleasing women infuse their lives with optimism to find new meaning & purpose so they can confidently make the rest of their life the *best* of their life. v And a couple of months ago, Julie inherited a robust FB group filled with 6000 members of her target audience. Yet, Julie hadn’t quite figured out how to convert these engaged FB group members into clients and she wanted my help. Now for my confession… Prior to recording, my brain was popping with marketing ideas I could share with Julie. I honestly came into the session ready to basically blow her mind with my savvy marketing ideas. And then… once we started coaching, I realized that Julie was pretty much doing most of what I had planned to suggest. Huh… But when we dug in just a little deeper, what we discovered was that while Julie was doing an excellent job of nurturing her group.. She wasn’t actively selling. She wasn’t inactively selling. She wasn’t really selling at all. In fact, in a lot of ways, Julie was making it HARD for the women in her group to hire her. You see… Julie fell victim to Wishful Marketing… the unconscious idea that by offering up super valuable content… people will just automatically reach out and ask you if they can hire you. This… doesn’t really happen. Like… ever. So, after Julie and I uncovered that the missing link in her FB group strategy was simply making an offer, we created a schedule to help her step into her Brave Boots and actually invite members of her group to actually become clients. Quick update before we dive in… Julie posted in our Hive FB group about a week after we recorded this conversation and guess what… she our plan into place and already have two sales calls booked. So there… if you find that you avoid making offers or even if you subtly mention your offers without really leading with them.. You’re going to love this conversation. Let’s get started shall we? Here’s Julie Scott. TIMESTAMPS: 00:02:00 - Julie shares how she hopes to walk away with a marketing plan that doesn’t leave her feeling slimy 00:05:45 - Dallas asks Julie to share the current purpose of her facebook group 00:08:00 - Julie shares what she did to introduce herself when she took over the facebook group and what she does now 00:11:00 - Dallas shares the three things they will put together during the conversation 00:15:00 - How to create “buckets” of content topics that Julie can use to go live and increase engagement 00:19:00 - Dallas walks Julie through the 6-S system that she can use when going Live on facebook 00:31:00 - The Five Person post, and how this can plant the seed for sales before the sales call 00:39:00 - The big reason why people aren’t booking free calls with Julie and some strategies to change this up 00:50:00 - Dallas and Julie dig into a next level DM strategy she can implement CONNECT WITH JULIE: FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/pilatesgirlsocal/ INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/itsabouttimebaby_julie/ WEBSITE: https://www.itsabouttimebaby.com CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor FREE TRAINING: https://watchthecoachclass.com/
135. Is Now the Time to Launch a Course?
EIf you have plans to scale with a course, you definitely want to tune because that’s exactly what today’s guest came in to discuss. Suzette Mullen helps LGBTQ+ folx make time to raise their voices, write their stories, and become published authors. And Suzette’s vision is to build a year long mentorship program similar to my program The Hive. Yet.. Suzette is well aware that a large portion of her audience may need a bit of a starter course before they’re ready to commit to a year long program. So, the two of us put our heads together to determine if launching an intro program makes sense for her business and her audience. From there, we worked out the timing and the workflow to roll out her intro course and ensure that it flows right into her year long program. This episode was particularly fun for me for 2 reasons: 1. Suzette’s mission to help raise LBGTQ+ voices is important and I want to help her any way I can. 2. Our conversation took us behind the scenes of my business. So, if you’ve ever been curious about why and how my offers look the way they do, get ready because we are spilling the tea today. Let’s do it! Here’s Suzette Mullen. TIMESTAMPS: 00:04:30 - Suzette shares what she’d like to walk away with from the session 00:07:00 - Dallas shares the behind the scenes of why she offers a program outside of The Hive 00:010:00 - Dallas asks Suzette her intention for launching an course 00:16:30 - How to creating an intro course can help your audience set realistic expectations and find a quick win 00:19:00 - Dallas and Suzette get clear about the focus on the intro clears verses a full year program 00:25:00 - What is an appropriate length of time for your intro course? 00:36:00 - Suzette shares her idea around the free masterclass to invite people into the intro course 00:44:00 - How often should you offer your intro course? And how much space should you give between the launch of your larger program? 00:47:00 - Why and how you should build your primary offer first, and then build your marketing around that 00:53:00 - Dallas and Suzette talk through a pricing strategy 00:58:00 - A summary of Suzette’s next steps CONNECT WITH SUZETTE: WEBSITE: https://www.yourstoryfinder.com/ INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/urstoryfinder/ CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor FREE QUIZ: http://dallastravers.com/quiz
134. Normalize The Rollercoaster
EWelcome to the fifth and final bonus episode this week. And I’ll just get right into it… I think it's time for each and every one of us to normalize the rollercoaster. This is something we really really strive to do inside of The Hive. For a whole host of reasons, but namely, the online industry really does not normalize the rollercoaster. Think about any sales page you've ever looked at, they tend to feature the massive amount of money someone earned in the shortest amount of time. So if you're not making massive amounts of money in a short amount of time you are broken in some way. So today, we will really take a look at and think about the harm that this might unintentionally cause to your audience. I believe that we, as coaches, have to strive really hard to normalize the rollercoaster for our own mental health but also for our audience. This topic is something I feel very passionate about, so I hope that it inspires you in some way. Tune in, take notes, and maybe send this episode on to a coach friend who should give it a listen, too. TIMESTAMPS: 00:02:40 - It’s time for the coaching space to normalize the rollercoaster 00:05:00 - In business, there are high’s, lows, and a whole lot of flat road 00:08:00 - How you can normalize the rollercoaster with your clients 00:13:00 - Where you may have set unrealistic expectations for your clients and in your business CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor APPLY FOR THE HIVE: http://dallastravers.com/apply
133. Fail Fast, My Friend
EWelcome to episode 4 in our special 5 part series. All week, I’m reflecting on some of the lessons I’ve learned and observed this year inside of the Hive. Today, I want to talk about making mistakes. More specifically, how doing something wrong is actually required in order to get it right? And I get it, ok? Honestly, saying that makes me gag a little bit because I don't like making mistakes, especially in front of people. But the truth is that, by being an entrepreneur, we’ve actually signed up to make mistakes in public. Our messaging, marketing, social media… Everything is a giant guessing game. We're testing everything. And this can feel so frustrating. But here’s the thing: getting it wrong is the first step toward getting it right. So, if you’re ready to write yourself a permission slip today to “not get it perfect, and just get it going”, tune in now. TIMESTAMPS: 00:01:00 - Doing it wrong, is the first step towards getting it right 00:03:00 - Dallas shares about her experience overcoming perfectionism 00:06:00 - A story of a hive member who “failed” all year long and where she’s at now 00:10:00 - How you can apply the “fail fast” practice to your own business 00:17:00 - What happens if you are committed to growing 00:18:00 - Give yourself permission to make mistakes in public CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor APPLY FOR THE HIVE: http://dallastravers.com/apply
132. My #1 Unsexy Marketing Strategy
EWe are back with another bonus episode today! My goal is to help you learn from some of the lessons I’ve observed this year inside of the Hive and, of course, doing the work inside of my own business. On Monday we talked about the importance of solving the right problems. And Tuesday we talked about the value of centering the client whenever you feel stuck rather than centering yourself Well, today we'll talk about my favorite thing… …habits! I love habits. They are so boring and uncool. But they are actually the reason why I have been in business for 21 years and why I've been able to — over that time — completely change my business 3 times, and change my audience, start from scratch, the whole deal, I've done it. And because I relied on the same habits over and over again…when it came to revenue, I was able to pick up where I left off each time. Listen — habits are sexy and slow is actually fast. If you’re ready to no longer ask yourself “what more should I be doing?” and instead, focus on repeatable habits to build a business you’re truly proud of, get ready to take notes because this episode is for you! TIMESTAMPS: 00:01:00 - Why we need habits instead of more tactics 00:03:00 - Why are habits important when it comes to running your business? 00:05:00 - Dallas shares the problem with most summit strategies in the coaching space 00:07:00 - Dallas shares an example a Hive Member who realized the importance of a stackable strategy 00:10:00 - How the online coaching space perpetuates the myth of the overnight success 00:12:00 - How to use scorecards to build on your habits 00:15:00 - Why it’s important to have accountability to your habits 00:16:00 - Dallas shares one final story to illustrate the importance of habits CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor APPLY FOR THE HIVE: http://dallastravers.com/apply
131. Center The Client Not Yourself
EWe are dropping into your podcast feed all week long with quick bonus episodes designed to reveal themes and lessons that I have observed this year inside of The Hive. Yesterday, we talked about the importance of solving the right problems. Today we will talk about what is probably my number one lesson of the whole year. Which is why— as values-driven coaches — we have to center the client instead of ourselves. I first started talking about this in relation to sales calls… If you're nervous when you're selling…or you're worried about if they even like you…or if they trust your expertise… or if you're going to annoy them by following up… That is completely self-centered. When you center the client it instead becomes “I'm speaking to someone who has a goal they want to accomplish. Am I the person to help them accomplish that goal?” When we center them, of course we want to invite them to become a client. Of course, we want to listen to their dreams and goals rather than thinking about overcoming their objections. This is a massive mindset shift. And for values driven coaches — it's a lifesaver now. An obvious place to center the client instead of yourself is in sales calls. But this rule applies pretty much everywhere in your business and I'm going to give you several examples throughout this episode. So with that, let’s dive in! TIMESTAMPS: 00:3:00 - Dallas introduces the mindset shift of “centering the client” 00:05:00 - Examples of centering the client rather than centering yourself 00:12:00 - How to make the shift to center your clients 00:16:00 - Dallas shares how this approach makes decisions really clear (maybe not convenient, but clear) 00:19:00 - The “Stop, Drop, Dig, and Roll” practice 21:00 - How to tell if you’re centering yourself or the client CONNECT WITH ME: INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dallastraversbizmentor APPLY FOR THE HIVE: http://dallastravers.com/apply
