“Send Coach John a message”Important & easy topic of always being open to learning throughout life. But it's coming at you from a tough reminder. A former student of mine passed away from cancer. She was in her early - mid twenties. She left a huge impact on others from her radiant smile and laughter, to her genuine care for others. It's a part of life I know, but still difficult to grasp onto. She taught me about bravery, courage, laughter, not giving up, caring for and loving others, etc. So many people have taught me these and other important lessons - all to many former students that have passed away over the years. We all have those same lessons from others passing away that we knew in our lives. It's important not to let those lessons go unnoticed. That factor is attitude." -William James Our attitude is totally our choice. We have to remember that it's one of the few things we have total control over, yet we tend to forget that we do. I love this reminder - especially for myself. Life is short. Joy is something that is too valuable, not to have in life. “Send Coach John a message”Lots of reflecting on this one since my surgery. Truthfully, before my surgery too. This quote from long ago from Harriet Beecher Stowe (from 1852), "Caring for others is the highest expression of humanity." I have seen this all throughout my life, but it became a very bright light shining in my face during my recent surgery episode, that got me thinking about this a bit deeper. The people that helped me in the hospital, the entire staff (at least the ones that dealt with me), reminded me about this important life skill. The friends I have connected with over my life - so many reached out to me with text messages and social media - with their well wishes, happy birthday messages and prayers.... wow.. .what a powerful difference they made. All of us can make that difference with the people in our lives and those that we meet along the way. It's our choice. Desperately!! "Live your best today. Never let thoughts of your past, or those of the future, imprison you. Live an incredible day today!!" Then, as he always does, he ends his post simply with the word, "Peace." A great reminder for me (and all of us), that I can't get bogged down in worries - about the past or the future.
