CML Classics – Episode 37: Mulholland Drive
ENeil Minow of Common Sense Media wrote in his review of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive: "If you like movies that make sense, "Mulholland Drive" isn't for you." CML Classics – Episode 35: No Country For Old Men
EOn this week's classic episode of Classic Movies Live!, our hosts take a quick break from war to discuss a deeply psychological neo-western. It also happens to be the main inspiration for a particular movie our hosts watch in a different episode... can you figure out which one before they tell you?

Classic Movies Live – Season 3, Episode 43: Top Ten Animated Films By Genre
For the past two years for Dakota Arsenault's birth, he's dedicated his podcast, Contra Zoom Pod, to celebrating some of his all-time favourite movies! In this year's birthday episode, Episode 199, he was joined by Bil Antoniou to go through each of their favourite films in ten different genres. And yet, something was not right. In the episode, Dakota controversially included "Animation" as a genre, despite claiming that "Animation is a medium, not a genre". Anticipating blowback, he also noted that "people are going to be really mad at me for this one." In The Gray Man, Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling face off to do some spy stuff! So how does it hold up against the other Russo Brothers' films? Tune in to find out!

Kickin’ It With Kendrick, Episode 28: Kickin’ It With Kendrick
A cursory search on Spotify yields several podcasts devoted to a variety of actors, from Keanu Reeves to Josh Hartnett to Paul Mercurio. But only one of those is a 28-episode podcast devoted to America's favourite actor: Anna Kendrick! On the riveting season finale, Pierre and Jeff discuss the last movies from Ms. Kendrick's current filmography: The Company You Keep and Digging For Fire. Then, our hosts wrap up this year-long epic journey by summarizing everything we've learned. What is the story of Anna Kendrick the Actress? Tune in as our hosts talk about the three Anna Kendrick movies that left the greatest impression on them. Some picks might surprise you! From Chris Williams, director of Bolt and Big Hero 6, comes Netflix's latest animated movie: The Sea Beast! Now three years later, Taika Waititi has brought Marvel's premiere divinity back for his fourth solo outing: Love & Thunder! In this episode, our hosts discuss the latest collaboration between Chris Hemsworth, Waititi, and Marvel. Will this be an episode steeped in discussions of the Guardians of the Galaxy (it won't), or a more traditional sequel to Ragnarok?(closer, but still not quite) Maybe most importantly of all: should you spend your hard-earned money to go see the MCU's "first-ever romantic comedy" after a difficult day in the salt mines? Well, look no further, citizen: we've got the answers to all those questions and more here on Classic Movies Live!

Kickin’ It With Kendrick, Episode 27: Mr. Morale and the Stowaways
Content Warning: Discussions of Transphobia, Homophobia, Racism, as well as brief mentions of current American and international politics. Audio from tracks that include racial and homophobic slurs. Some actors have 30 films to their name, some musicians have discographies spanning 20 years, but there's only one podcast on Spotify that dares to devote entire episodes to the work of both Anna Kendrick and Kendrick Lamar! In today's episode, we're Kickin' It with both Kendricks, as Pierre and Jeff discuss Lamar's latest album Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. Lamar's newest is also arguably his most personal, raw album yet, and it should be no surprise that, in order to talk about it, our hosts have to get pretty personal and raw as well! Later in the episode, we break down Anna Kendrick's most recent movie, the Netflix/Amazon Prime original Stowaway! In this isolated space drama, three astronauts on a mission to Mars discover they've accidentally wound up with an unexpected fourth passenger. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that both Kendricks provides plenty of interesting philosophical fodder for our hosts! And with this being our longest episode ever, you may want to strap in for what you're about to hear! Big shoutout to Mic the Snare on YouTube, whose video "Making Sense of Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers" was a huge help to Jeff when preparing for this episode. Today's episode is sponsored by Technically a Conversation, a podcast for curious people by curious people! How does Elvis compare to the wave of other musician biopics releasing over the last few years? Does Luhrmann's excessive, maximalist style do the King justice? Tune in today to find out!

Kickin’ It With Kendrick, Episode 26: Featuring Mark Morgan (Dummy)!
So they call a trainer a "sneaker", a few minutes a "quibi", and a podcast "the only podcast on Spotify about Anna Kendrick's filmography"? That's right! In today's episode of Kickin' It With Kendrick, Pierre and Jeff are joined by eloquent British man and Minding the Gap enthusiast Mark Morgan to talk about Dummy, a ten-episode limited series for the 2020 streaming service Quibi! But first: what was Quibi? Helmed by Meg Whitman and enemy-of-the-show Jeffrey Katzenberg, Quibi was a streaming service designed for phones, with content delivered in 10-minute or less chunks. Does that sound like a bad idea? I wouldn't be so sure! Tune in to get our thoughts on the merits of Quibi, as well as why it ultimately went belly-up. Of course, this wouldn't be an Anna Kendrick podcast if we didn't also dicuss our favourite actor's foray into the short-form streaming market. In Dummy, Kendrick plays Dan Harmon's girlfriend, Cody, who has a fateful encounter with her partner's sex-doll. Written by Cody Heller with a tone somewhere between Wilfred and Rick and Morty, Dummy dramatizes a real event involving Heller, Harmon, and a sex doll, using it as a framing device for one woman's journey of self-discovery. At only 76 minutes, Dummy is the shortest film we've talked about on this podcast! Heck, it's shorter than this episode! You can find more of Mark over on the Oscars Death Race Discord, where he enjoys simping for the movie Minding the Gap. Mark is also one of the founding members of the Academy of Death Racers, which you can check out over on aodr.net! Today's episode is sponsored in part by the folks over at Bad Dad, Rad Dad. Check out their podcast where they look for better dads one movie at a time! Today's episode is also sponsored by Technically a Conversation, a podcast for curious people by curious people! You can listen to them on Spotify, or check out their website for all their links and socials! Be sure to follow them over on Twitter!

Classic Movies Live – Season 3, Episode 38: Lightyear
This week on Classic Movies Live!, we go to infinity... and beyond! It's another Pixar episode, and this time, our hosts are talking about Lightyear. Starring Chris Evans and Keke Palmer, Lightyear serves as an origin story of sorts for the character of Buzz Lightyear. But! Lightyear isn't about Tim Allen's Buzz Lightyear toy, but instead the film that the toy was based on in-universe! Still following? Good! Because just that concept alone is so much to unpack! Were you hyped for Lightyear? Will the movie live up to that hyped? The answers to both of these questions as we discuss yet another classic of tomorrow... today!

Kickin’ It With Kendrick, Episode 25: The Day Shall Come
The day shall come when there are multiple podcasts on Spotify devoted to the filmography of Anna Kendrick, but for now, Kickin' It With Kendrick is the only one! In today's episode, Pierre and Jeff are joined by Calum Macnab of Scaretroducing to discuss Chris Morris' second film, and Anna Kendrick's thirty-sixth! "Based on 100 true stories", The Day Shall Come is a darkly comedic look at governmental overreach in the post-9/11 world. In need of rent money, impoverished preacher Moses Al Shabazz (Marchant Davis) turns to a wealthy contact with ties to Al-Quaeda. Unbeknownst to Al Shabazz, that contact is actually an FBI plant under the command of an overly ambitious anti-terror agent (Anna Kendrick). To learn more about the inspirations for The Day Shall Come, check out Chris' Morris interview on the Adam Buxton podcast. And for more of today's guest, Calum Macnab, you can check out Scaretroducing, where he and his co-host Gisela Martinez talk about horror movies every week or so! Most recently, they've covered the films Dashcam, Men, and Lux Aeterna. Today's episode is sponsored in part by the folks over at Bad Dad, Rad Dad. Check out their podcast where they look for better dads one movie at a time!

Kickin’ It With Kendrick, Episode 24: A Simple Favor
EDear listeners, you've stumbled upon the only podcast on Spotify devoted to the filmography of the one and only Anna Kendrick! If you don't mind doing us a quick (and simple) favour, you should take a listen! In today's episode, Pierre and Jeff finally get to talk about one of Anna Kendrick's biggest movies: the psychological thriller/dark comedy A Simple Favor! Based on the book by Darcey Bell -- which itself draws inspiration from classic movies like Diabolique, Strangers on a Train, and Single White Female -- A Simple Favor tells the story of Stephanie and Emily, two friends brought together by their kids, whose relationship is thrown out of wack when Emily suddenly disappears. In preparation, our hosts watched Diabolique, while Jeff additionally read the book and watched a few of the other inspirations for this movie. Tune in as Pierre and Jeff break down the inspirations for the film before getting as nit-picky as they can about Paul Feig and his directing! And last but not least, check out author Darcey Bell's blog-post/review of the movie here: https://crimereads.com/darcey-bell-adaptation-a-simple-favor/ Today's episode is sponsored in part by the folks over at Bad Dad, Rad Dad. In the triumphant return of Kickin' It With Kendrick, Pierre and Jeff are joined by Matthew Simpson of Awesome Friday Podcast to talk about end of the world movies, and more specifically, Rapture-Palooza! Around the end of the first decade of the 2000s -- give or take -- we got a lot of end of the world movies. An almost suspicious amount. An amount that's... maybe not so suspicious once you consider the swathe of other Hollywood trends around the same time. So how does Rapture-Palooza stack up against the likes of Left Behind and This is the End? Well, not to spoil anything, but it's worse than one of those, and the other one we didn't talk about! You can find more of Matthew over on Twitter, or alongside his co-host Simon on the Awesome Friday podcast! Make sure to check out episodes of Awesome Friday over on Spotify, and follow them over on Twitter! When Dr. Robotnik enlists the help of interdimensional echidna Knuckles to seek out the Master Emerald (read: Big MacGuffin), it's up to Sonic and his new friend Tails (played by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, reprising her role from the games) to get there first! Featuring the return of Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey, alongside the supporting cast of the first film and several exciting new faces, Sonic 2 is bigger than the first in almost every way! But does bigger also mean better? Tune in as Pierre and Jeff explore the art of Sega and Fowler!

Classic Movies Live – Season 3, Episode 33: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
On this week's episode of Classic Movies Live!, our hosts talk about a Nic Cage movie for the second time on the show, but Jeff keeps saying it's the first time! The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent stars Nicolas Cage as a heavily fictionalized version of himself.
