This week in the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO SPOTLIGHT we will be presenting our 2014 Halloween Special as we’ll feature some spooky music from various film, TV and video game scores – most of which we’ve never played on the program before.

This week on the CINEMATIC SOUND SPOTLIGHT we will be listening to the fantastic music from one of the most prolific television composers working today having written music to 18 television shows since 2004.

This week on the CINEMATIC SOUND SPOTLIGHT we will be listening to select re-recordings of music composed by Elmer Bernstein including for the very first time on the show music from the landmark ELMER BERNSTEIN FILM MUSIC COLLECTION.

This week on the CINEMATIC SOUND SPOTLIGHT we will be listening to the music from the filmography of the versatile composer Christopher Young. We will be featuring music from some well known films as well as music from some obscure gems.

2013 turned out to be another fantastic year for film, television and video game music. A few months ago Cinematic Sound Radio celebrated the 10 best scores of 2013 and as we do every year we would like to look back and present some of the very best cues from scores that weren’t included in our countdown.

Welcome one and all to Cinematic Sound Radio’s third annual Christmas special. On the program this year you will hear music from Jeannot Szwarc’s 1985 film SANTA CLAUS: THE MOVIE starring Dudley Moore. You’ll also hear a rare Christmas gem by Bruce Broughton for the 1991 family comedy ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS. Mychael Danna wrote arguably one of his very best scores for the 2006 film THE NATIVITY STORY; you’ll hear a lengthy suite from that score. We will also feature music from Maurice Jarre’s score to the 1989 film PRANCER – a score that received its very first CD release a few months ago. Sprinkled throughout the program you’ll hear shorter selections from Randy Edelman’s SURVIVING CHRISTMAS, Hans Zimmer’s THE HOLIDAY, and Christopher Lennertz’s A DIVA’S CHRISTMAS CAROL. To open the program you’ll hear Andrew Pearce’s extended TF1 CINE DIMANCE LOGO THEME and the close the show you will hear the “Christmas Carol Medley” arranged by Angela Morley from the 1990 film HOME ALONE.

Others like John Williams, James Horner, Miklos Rozsa, Danny Elfman, Cliff Eidelman, Bernard Herrmann – just to name a few – have also written spectacular and challenging music to be enjoyed away from the silver screen. This is actually CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO’s third CONCERT MUSIC BY FILM COMPOSERS program. This is our first since 2006. Two years ago, J.J. Abrams’ film SUPER 8 and an article entitled “The 6 Most Badass Hero Kids In Movies” by Ryan McKee inspired me to write a three hour radio program dedicated to the HERO KIDS film. Unfortunately, the script was never recorded and a program was never produced. Why? I don’t know, these things just happen. Fast forward to present day and in need of a show to produce, I went back into the archives and found this much neglected script dedicated to one of my favourite -genre of film. So what is a HERO KIDS film? Ryan McKee’s article defines the HERO KIDS film as a movie where “children regularly saved adults from bad situations.” You can extend that to ordinary kids going on extraordinary adventures. McKee’s list doesn’t include films about teenagers, however, our “list” does since teenagers are still essentially kids… just a bit taller. On the program today you will hear music from such HERO KIDS films as EXPLORERS, THE GOONIES, FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR, E.T. THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL, ZATHURA, THE MONSTER SQUAD, THE LAST STARFIGHTER and many more.

This year I’m going to play for you some of my favourite end credit cues. These are by no means the definitive best of the best but I think this show features a fine selection of end credit cues from the most iconic to the more obscure. So, on this special three hour program you will hear music Alan Silvestri, James Horner, John Debney, John Williams, Joel McNeely, David Shire, David Arnold, Mark Snow and many others.
