'Rebirth of the Blues' Chelsea FanCast #999

Stamford Chidge interviews Chelsea author Neil Fitzsimon about his new book 'Rebirth of the Blues'.Having chronicled Chelsea's 1970 FA Cup winning side in 'Rhapsody in Blue' and Eddie McCreadie's promotion side in 'A Deeper Shade of Blue', Neil has turned his sights to the period between 1977-1985.One of the nost turbulent periods in Chelsea's history, it was a period when Chelsea narrowly escaped relegation into the Third Division in 1983, before being resurrected under the management of John Neal when the likes of Kerry Dixon, Pat Nevin and others catapulted the club to new glories. The next year, Chelsea took the Second Division by storm with their new brand of quicksilver flowing football to make a triumphant return to the top flight as champions. But Rebirth of the Blues is more than just a chronicle of football history. It’s a gripping memoir of a Chelsea fan growing up in the late 1970s to mid-80s and his experiences of living through the political unrest of Thatcherite Britain when excess and greed were seen as ideals to be admired. Fitzsimon recalls his tentative first steps with girlfriends, the changing face of the music scene and what it was like to be single and one of the lads. You can buy the book here Hosted on Acast. “Over and Out” Chelsea FanCast #998

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd (from his hospital bed!), Clayton Beerman and Dayne Whittle to review the last match of the season against Newcastle. And breathe. Yes, Chelsea's worst season for nearly 30 years is finally consigned to the dustbin where it belongs. We look back at the last match against Newcastle, where Chelsea did ok against a Newcastle side clearly sipping cocktails on the beach. The usual profligacy in front of goal by Chelsea; why break the cycle eh lads? Of more interest was who might be playing their last game? Azpi with a superb banner to honour him? Loftus-Cheek who gave the "I'm off" clap to all four stands in the ground? Mason Mount who looked tearful in the lap of appreciation. We know Frank is off and he got a well deserved warm send off. But it's now "Hello, hello, Pochettino; Pochettino!" as our new manager has been announced. Interestingly one of his first decisions may have been to refuse to put an offer in on Felix who is set to return to Atletico Madrid. We wrap up part one with a chat about a fantastic evening at the 1983/84 re-union at Under the Bridge on Saturday night. In part two we welcome back Garry Hayes and Ceri Levy from The Chels to talk about the next installment of their superb documentary podcast series on Chelsea from the Hoddle era to Munich, called The Blueprint. The next episodes are available from May 31st from wherever you get your podcasts. Make sure you check them out. The Blueprint Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #997

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd look back at another painfuil Chelsea defeat, away to Man Utd and ahead to the last match of the season at home to Newcastle Utd.In part one we discuss a better 1st half performance but Keystone Kop defending and inability to finish kill us again. Midfield looked better – well done Chuk and Hall impressed again, but in defence, Fofana instigated the collapse in the second half with two poor mistakes. At least Felix scored a good consolation goal. Are there parallels with the 4-0 defeat at Old Trafford meted out in his first match in charge in 2019? And how valid are his comments about poor attitude from training ground to pitch? And respect to the superb Chelsea away support, who out sang Utd from start to finish. In part two we look ahead to the match against Newcastle United. Will Frank play 'da Yoof' again or go for experience in his last match at the helm? While Chelsea has been breaking all the wrong records this season, they do have an imperious record at home v Newcastle with only 1 defeat at home in PL history. We ask whether Newcastle will still be hungry or on the beach? Are we worried about their goal threat (2.5 goals per game on the road) and can we expect more shit housery?Do we expect a toxic atmosphere at the Bridge if we lose again? And what can we expect from the Lap of Appreciation? We wrap up with our predictions. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

'Kill the Pain' Chelsea FanCast #996

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Meehan to look back at surprisingly unsurprising defeat away to Man City and ahead to Man Utd this week.In part one Franks team changes beg more questions: is Frank under orders, down to the bare bones or just clueless? More Keystone Kops defending cost us again. In fairness, we didn’t play too badly as in we didn’t get hammered!! But its not really good enough, is it? And why having been held back from the England U20 squad did Chukwuemeke only come on with 9 minutes to go? The season really needs to end doesn't it?In part two we look ahead to Thursday night's match against Man Utd kicking off with Chidge's team selection. Will Frank heed his advice? Very probably not!! Utd will still have one eye on Liverpool who have a better goal difference, if Utd lose against us and Fulham at home (Liverpool away v Southampton). Utd only lost once at home in the league this season – v Brighton 1st match. Given this dare we hope for a win for Chelsea? In part three we wrap up the show with a couple of listener emails. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #995

Stamford Chidge is joined by Martin Wickham and Tony Glover to discuss the latest Chelsea news and preview Sunday's match against Man City.In part one we discuss whether Chelsea should make a bid for Brentford striker Ivan Toney and whether Ruben Loftus-Cheek to AC Milan would be a good move for club and player. With Mental Health Week upon us, we discuss the Chelsea Supporters' Trust mental health iniative 'Over The Line' and how the Club is helping to make supporters aware of it. We also take a quick look ahead to the forthcoming US tour in the summer. In part two we look ahead to the match against City. Starting with Chidge's team selection we wonder how many Chelsea players are available given the number of injuries? We look at our record v City and how do we feel about potentially handing the title to City? With City look horribly good.is there a chance they might have their eye off the ball? We wrap up with our predictions and ask is it a question of how many? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

'Forest Gumps' Chelsea FanCast #994

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Martin Wickham to look back at a frustrating draw to relegation threatened Nottingham Forest and discuss the imminent arrival of Mauricio Pochettino. In part one we discuss another poor team selection by Frank Lampard. Is he the new tinkerman or is he being told who to pick? Lampard's assessment of Chelsea being "too slow, too sideways, too safe" was spot on but is this a legacy of previous managers desire to have possession for possessions sake? More Keystone Kops defending costs Chelsea again, but we salute Sterling for scoring two good goals and eat a large dollopp of humble pie in the process. Where has he been all season though? Other than Sterling, props go to Lewis Hall, Trevoh Chalobah, Connor Gallagher and Noni Mudueka for bringing some fight and intensity to procedings. In part two we welcome Mauricio Pochettino - the dawning of a new aura, perhaps, after his strange ability to read his players 'auras'. We ask what will he bring as manager; what does he need to succeed; which players will benefit; how will he do and will it match our expectations. In part three we have a short 'In Off the Post' as we read out this week's emails. Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #993

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Clayton Beerman to discuss the latest Chelsea news and look ahead to Saturday's match against Nottingham Forest. In part one we round up the latest Chelsea news including Frank’s presser with updates on the injuries to Chilwell; Mount; Cucurella; KK and Fofana. With Lewis Hall kept back from the England U20 squad, will Frank pick him on Saturday? Kante looks set to stay while Silva may be off - what do we think? And we welcome the price freeze on general admission season tickets announced by Chelsea's board this week.In part two we preview Saturday's match against Nottinghma Forest starting with Chidge's team selection. After beating Bournemouth last weekend, has Chelsea’s confidence returned? Forest are fighting for survival but will Chelsea be on the beach? Chelsea need to finish the season well and with tough fixtures coming up it could be Chelsea’s last win this season. With that in mind we give our predictions. Hosted on Acast. “Frank Pops the Cherries” Chelsea FanCast #991

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Dan Silver to look back at that rarest of things - a Chelsea win, against Bournemouth! In part one we discuss the benefits of getting team selection right and scoring first and early. Gallagher and Mudueke both put in good performances and Badiashile stepped up and even the subs (Sterling, Felix and Ziyech) made an impact. In part two we wonder if the injury to Chilwell might open a door for Lewis Hall and we like the away fans, we are delighted for Frank that his horrendous losing streak has come to an end.As it is now confirmed that "we are staying up" can we catch Fulham and Brentford and does it really matter in this omnishambles of a season? Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #990

With Jonathan Kydd away this week, Stamford Chidge is joined by 'The Smut Buddies', Tony Glover and Alex Churchill to look back at a pathetic defeat to Arsenal and ahead to Saturday's match against Bournemouth. In part one we look back at Chelsea's 3-1 defeat away to Arsenal and ask Azpi why? Kova why? Sterling why? No Mudryk or Gallagher why? Yet again Chelsea showed No pressing, no effort, no responsibility in a shambolic performance. Raheem Sterling – what a waste of money! The return of Keystone Kops defending. But, we scored a goal – well done Mudueke! And it was great support from those who stayed. In part two we look ahead to the match against Bournemouth on Saturday, kicking off with Chidge's team selection. On the bleak side we haven’t lost 7 in a row since 1961 and 5 PL matches since 1993 – Chelsea always making history! Bournemouth on a good run – will they be on the beach? But they have high energy and intensity – everything we don’t – is this a concern? We also talk about Boehly’s comments and ask should he talk to the fans about what's going on at Chelsea rather than the financial press? Should Lukaku get another go next season Should Frank have a role at Chelsea going forward? As ever we wrap up with our predictions. Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #989

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Marco Worrall, Martin Wickham and Mark Meehan for a special show to celebrate the 15th birthday of the Chelsea Fancast, oh and review Chelsea v Brentford and preview Arsenal v Chelsea...In part one we look back at another dismal defeat and no goals scored. This time at home to Brentford. Oh the humiliation. Another poor team selection by Frank saw the same old problems first half. Sterling what an overpaid xxxx. A typical own goal shooting us in the foot but does a proper keeper clean the corners out? The changes at half time worked - Auba and Mudryk and 4:3:3 - but Frank should have taken Sterling off too, but there was more energy and purpose and we looked better with a centre forward on and we coped well defensively. But the second goal killed it. At the moment Chelsea are statistically horrific with one point and one goal in 5 games and bottom of the table on form. This is on Boehly AND the players. In part two we celebrate 15 years of the Chelsea FanCast with some of our listeners favourite memories from 1035 shows and 15 years. In part three we preview the Arsenal v Chelsea match kicking off with Chidge's team selection. Can we dare to dream of ruining Arsenal’s season? Will Arsenal want to bounce back after the loss to City or will this affect them? We Can’t blame Frank for the mess but we do feel sorry for him and his future, after all you can’t polish a turd, but should Pochetino come in now? Everyone says we can't get relegated, but is this true? We wrap up with our predictions. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

“They Think It’s All Over, It Is Now” Chelsea FanCast #987

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Martin Wickham to look back at Chelsea's exit from the Champions' League and ahead to wednesday nights match against Brentford. In part one we look back at the seemingly inevitable defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions' League quarter final second leg. Frank's team selection seemed strange given we needed to score three goals and although we huffed and puffed, once Madrid scored it was all over. In truth Madrid didn't really need to get out of second gear over the two legs. And as Chelsea say goodbye to the Champions' League, how long will it be before we are back?Looking at the on-going saga of who Chelsea's manager will be, we discuss whether or not Mauricio Pochetino would be a good appointment considering where Chelsea is at currently. On part two we look ahead to the match against Brentford on wednesday night, starting with Chidge's team selection. Can Chelsea score a goal? Has the team already chuck the season in? Will we win another game this season? There is some hope as Brentford's form has dipped recently, but it won't be easy in the context of Chelsea's recent performances, making predictions especially difficult. We give it a go anyway! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

“Invertebrate Jellies” Chelsea FanCast #986

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Clayton Beerman to look back at a poor defeat at home to Brighton and ahead to Real Madrid in the Champions' League. In part one we ask were there too many changes? Not enough continuity or were players rested for Real? Kepa was excellent but other than that there was no leadership, no spine, no attack, no energy and fitness and no hope. Meanwhile Brighton were everything we are not – aggressive one touch football; going forward quickly with end product. With no sign of form turning around we ask can we still get relegated? In part two we discuss the crowd having enough of it all. With Chelsea finding themselves in a perfect storm of shit: players who should have been sold; players who want away; players who think they’ll be sold; interim manager with no focus; new owners who have turned it upside down. The season can't finish soon enough. What will the long-term damage be given how much time Chelsea will need to re-build; the possibility of a FFP fire sale and revenue down with no Europe…In part three we preview the second leg of the Champions' League quarter-final against Real Madrid. How will Frank set up the team with no Koulibaly and Chilwell? How are we going to score 3 goals? And do we have to score first and by going on the attack do we leave ourselves vulnerable to getting thumped? In part four we have this week's emails to read out. Hosted on Acast. Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #985

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Meehan and Chelsea Legend Kerry Dixon for a special FanCast live from the Chelsea Pensioner!!In part one we look back at the defeat to Real Madrid and ask fine margins or outclassed? It could have been worse but are we still in it? If we can’t score one, how will we score 3?In part two we are joined by our hosts for the evening, Daniel Jannou and Oscar Kalstrom from Chelsea Supporters Sweden, who have brought over 50 supporters from Sweden for the match, most of them seem to be in the Chelsea Pensioner! We ask them When did CSS start? How many in the group? Why Chelsea? How many games do they come to and what’s the match day routine in Sweden? In part three we look ahead to Saturday's match against Brighton. We kick off with Chidge's team selection. Ask will Brighton have one eye on the Man Utd semi and will they be hampered by Di Zerbi's suspension? How can Frank get Chelsea scoring will Chelsea have one eye on Madrid? 'Mentality Muppets' Chelsea FanCast #984

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Tony Glover to look back at the defeat away to Wolves and ahead to the Real Madrid match on Tuesday. In part one we discuss Frank's team selection: Cucurella not Chilwell? Mount injured, Kante and possibly Chilwell rested, but not James? Gallagher started in right position, but Sterling? And why four at the back? With Chelsea losing to lowly Wolves there was no new manager bounce. As ever in football, it's the hope that kills you. Maybe it’s not the manager after all but the players who were out battled and lethargic. Are they fit enough or is this a mentality issue. And with one shot on target all game, why do we get so many shots blocked? In part two we ask has Frank taken on a poisoned chalice? What can he do/must he do? How much of a mess are we in right now. Which players top the clear out list? And if it came to a choice would you choose Felix or Mount? In part three we look ahead to the Real Madrid match looking at Chidge's team selection. Will he go back three at the back or four. And given Tuchel went four at the back when we beat them last year, should Frank be do the same.Worryingly Real Madrid are all in on the CL having lost 3:2 at home to Villareal scuppering chances of the La Liga title. What is the likely Real line up? Will Chelsea raise their game? Hopefully, Chelsea can stay in the tie and don’t get thumped. We wrap up the show with this week's emails. Hosted on Acast. Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #983

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Alex Churchill to welcome Super Frankie Lampard back with a massive joyous hug as the legend returns for his second stint as Chelsea manager. In part one, Frankie Goes to Boehlywood!! We discuss what could well be a very shrewd move by the club, but is there footballing sense to it or is it just good PR to keep the supporters off their back? With the appointment of Lampard and his coaching staff of Ashley Cole, Joe Edwards, Chris Jones and Paul Clements are the club rightly de-Brightonising and re-Chelseafying things? What will it mean for the squad – Mount, James, Gallagher, Pulisic, Ziyech and Kepa in particular? And where are we with the various new manager rumours - Nagelsmann, Enrique, Pochettino, Mourinho, Conte, Gallardo…even Lampard? In part two we look back at the 0-0 draw against LIverpool. Bruno at least played players in their right positions and set up with a 5 man midfield. Kante was excellent and it was so good to see him back. Chelsea created chances, couldn’t score any goals of course and Havertz and Kovacic were particularly inept, whilst Liverpool were hilariously very poor, but was 0-0 a fair result? In part two we look ahead to Wolves v Chelsea, starting with Chidge's team selection. Will Frank go full English and play those he knows well? Will he go with four at the back or stay with three? How can Frank get Chelsea scoring? Will he leave big holes at the back? Wolves can’t score, we can’t score, does the match have 0-0 written all over it? We wrap up with our predictions. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

'End of an Error' Chelsea Fancast #981

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Tony Glover and Paul Crowder to discuss the defeat to Villa and the subsequent sacking of Graham Potter. In part one we discuss Potter's last team selection - was it proof he’d lost the plot? Chilwell’s goal – could it have made a difference? Poor defending; poor finishing – same shit, different day. We also discuss why Potter had to go, why much of this is on Clearlake and ask why did they change their mind?In part two we discuss how much blame should the players cop? Who do we want as the next manager and who will we get? Does the de-Romanisation need to be followed by de-Brightoning and a re-injection of Chelsea? And what of Clearlake's impact so far? Not a good 6 months but where do we go from here?In part three we preview the Chelsea v Liverpool. Chidge gives his team selection. Ask who is Bruno Salter? Will we get a new manager bounce? Liverpool have been woeful but will they bounce back after City thumping them. We wrap up with our predictions. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #980

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Tony Glover, and Liam Twomey from The Athletic to round up the Chelsea news and look ahead to Saturday's match against Aston Villa. In part one we look at Chelsea's financial results for 2021-22, announcing a £121 million loss and discuss what the implications for FFP might be. We also reflect on the noise around whether or not the new stadium might be located away from Stamford Bridge to nearby Earls Court. We wrap up part one by discussing 'Potter's Presser'!In part two we welcome back Justin Hawthorne from Up The Villa Podcast for our first 'Opposition View' for a while. Justin discusses how things have improved under Emery? Team selection? Players to watch? Ollie Watkins on fire and Villa's away form being rejuvenated. Mind you Villa have a terrible record v Chelsea. But this season they could finish above Chelsea for the 1st time since 95/96!! Justin finishes by giving us his prediction for the game.In part three we wrap up the show with our preview of the Villa game. Chidge gives his team selection and asks will there be an International hangover? Will Potter have one eye on Liverpool on Tuesday? Will Potter tinker with both team selection and substitutes? And will Villa attempt to hit us on the break at speed and stay tight at the back. We end the show with our predictions. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

'Ride to Hell' Chelsea FanCast Special

Stamford Chidge and Mark Worrall interview Chelsea season ticket holder Paul Ride about his book 'Ride to Hell'.Born and bred in Chelsea, Chelsea season ticket holder, Paul Ride, a trained chef, was working as a contract catering manager in Kuwait in the early 1990s. He was initially assigned to a company tasked with extinguishing oil well fires started by the Iraq military in 1991 as they retreated from the country due to the advance of United States-led Gulf War coalition forces.June 28th 1992 began like every other day for Ride. An early morning start to deliver packed lunches and pick up bread from a bakery. A delay left him with time to kill so he decided to visit an old colleague working at a United Nations facility in northern Kuwait close to the border with Iraq – a border he was coerced into crossing by a gun-toting Iraqi soldier.Accused of spying, Ride was taken hostage and repeatedly interrogated by the Mukhabarat, Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein’s murderous secret police. Eventually charged with illegal entry, he was sentenced to seven years in jail and transferred to Abu Ghraib, a notorious maximum-security prison close to Baghdad.‘Ride To Hell: Prisoner Of A Dubious Peace’ is Paul Ride’s gripping first-hand account of his traumatic incarceration, its devastating personal consequences, and his ongoing quest for justice, compensation, and an understanding of why the UK Government seemingly allowed him to fall through the diplomatic cracks that existed at that time.Throughout this hellish experience, Paul still managed to find out what Chelsea's (often poor!) results were thanks to the BBC World Service and letters from supporters who had been alerted to his plight through the media and Ken Bates who encouraged supporters to correspond with him.The book can be purchased from Amazon clicking on this link https://amzn.to/3GiS5Jl Hosted on Acast. 'Pottering' Chelsea FanCast #978

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Martin Wickham to look back at a frustrating draw against Everton at the Bridge. In part one we ask why did Potter shut up shop at 1-0? Was it Brightonesque or an attempt at game management? We look at the substitutions. Gallagher for Pulisic? Why not Mudryk? Cheek for Kovacic and Chalobah for Fofana - understandable but Chukwuemeka for Felix? In part two we look at the poor defending by Koulibaly and Kepa's errors for Everton's 2nd goal. The result was frustrating and felt like a defeat and it seems like when Chelsea don't win the negativity starts. However, Chelsea looked fluid for much of the match, although still profligate and the defence was immense bar the two errors for the goals. So, are we getting in a stew about nothing? In part three we give a very warm welcome to Garry Hayes and Ceri Levy from The Chels podcast to talk about their new project: The Blueprint: How Chelsea FC Changed Football, a brand-new narrative podcast series covering the rise of Chelsea FC and the club's role in shaping modern football, has debuted with an extremely rare and exclusive interview with former Chelsea FC owner Ken Bates. From fearing for their very existence to conquering Europe and winning the Champions League all within two decades, the story of modern Chelsea FC is unlike any other. 'GPBAWA' Chelsea FanCast #975

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Worrall to look back at Chelsea's 3-1 defeat of Leicester City.In part one with 3 goals and 3 wins on the trot we ask crisis, what crisis? Are Chelsea beginning to gel? Are key players returning making a difference? And are Kovacic and Fernandes becoming the glue that holds it together and if so how does Kante fit in?In part two we discuss the new arrivals getting better. We bemoan VAR the 'Karma Killer' with no-one celebrating Havert's superb goal. Also, VAR letting us down with the terrible foul on Felix going unpunished. We praise a rejuvenated Havertz and ask are Mount & Gallagher too good to let go?We sum up by looking at the apparent upturn in Chelsea's performances and ask have we and Graham Potter turned a corner and has this come about by playing the right system for the players. Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Alex Churchill and Football.London Chelsea Correspondent Adam Newson to look back at a superb European night at Stamford Bridge against Borussia Dortmund and ahead to the Premier League match against Leicester City.In part one we look back at Chelsea's superb win against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions' League. Apparently BVB are good, and we done good! Where did that performance come from? Stand out performances across the board especially from Chilwell, James, Havertz and Cucurella. Chelsea showed some much needed fight and we are pleased for Potter. Who next and can we win it?In part two we look ahead to Saturday's match against Leicester. We discuss Potter’s Presser and Chidge gives his team selection – will it be the same as it was for the Leeds match? We discuss Chelsea's defensive consistency and Capt. Kova. Leicester are mercurial at best but can Chelsea build on the last two wins? Is this another 6 pointer? We wrap up with our predictions. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

"We Scored A Goal!" Chelsea FanCast #972

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Meehan, Chair of the Chelsea Supporters' Trust, prolific Chelsea author and all round great bloke to look back at that rarest of things...A CHELSEA WIN!!!In part one we look back at a better performance in the 1-0 defeat of Leeds, bar the usual profligacy and a resort to Championship team tactics to hold on to the 1-0 lead. Talking of 'championship', why the lack of humour about a good old fashioned bit of gallows humour, something Chelsea supporters have been doing for years. And Chidge has found some shocking analysis of Chelsea's rubbish corners. In part two we applaud the performances of many of the players and ask if consistency of performance can be found in consistency of selection. Has a 1-0 win against Leeds given Potter a reprieve and it's remarkable what a win can do to cheer us all up and help the local economy judging by the busy Chelsea pubs after the game. JK and Chidge also report back on a fantastic afternoon spent with Paul 'Canners' Canoville at the Troubadour Club on Sunday afternoon. In part three we look ahead to the match against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. What is Chidge's team selection? With it being advantage Dortmund will a Dortmund goal kill the tie? How will Chelsea score the (minimum) two goals needed to get through when they haven't scored two goals since Boxing Day? And if Chelsea get knocked out that will be the season over but will it be 'Aufwiedersehen Potter'? We wrap up with our predictions. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Clayton Beerman and Football.London Chelsea Correspondent Adam Newson to preview Chelsea v Leeds. In part one we discuss 'Potter's Presser', rue the latest injuries to Chelsea players and wonder why more pertinent questions are not asked in the pressers. We also discuss the announcement of the Fans Advisory Board and the latest on the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge. In part two we preview the Chelsea v Leeds match. Chidge's team selection has a 'make do and mend' feel about it but he suggests a change in formation. Is this another must win match and another relegation 6 pointer? Do we fear a new manager bounce from Leeds? And Javi Gracia has form against Chelsea. We wrap the show up with our predictions. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

'An Air of Resignation' Chelsea FanCast #969

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Martin Wickham to review another Chelsea match and another defeat, but this one, to Spurs, is indefensible. In part one, we look at Potter's team selection and bemoan Chelsea being incapabale of scoring. It seems an air of resignation has set in with the supporters. When we concede it's game over. Why are Chelsea so poor in adversity? No goals, no fight, no clue, it's a case of wash, rinse, repeat with nothing changing and we ask what’s the point? In part two, we ask why not play James and Chilwell at wing back, now we have 5 centre backs available? We discuss the strange rescinding of Ziyech's red card. Applaud Mount for being the only player who seems to get it and for showing some fight. We face up to the fact that 'it’s relegation form folks isn’t it' and why should we accept the process if the process is the wrong process? And for that matter, why should the owners?Happy days, not! Adam and JK report on Potter’s Presser and we ask what does Potter need to do to turn it round; what happens if he wins or loses next 3 matches and how much are Boehly and Co culpable for the current mess?In part two, Chidge reveals his team selection for the Spurs match. Should Potter go back to his Dortmund selection? Should Mount and James play as they get the himportance of the fixture. Will Conte's absence be agood or bad thing for Chelsea? Will beating Spurs help Potter in getting the fans on side and will he be able to get the players at it and up for it? We wrap up with out predictions for the match. Hosted on Acast. 'Potterful' Chelsea FanCast #966

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Dean Mears to look back at a dreadful defeat at home to bottom of the league Southampton. In part one we discuss an indefensible performance, devoid of inspiration. Did Potter make too many changes? Is no consistency of selection hampering progress and has Potter been hamstrung by the need to protect players coming back from injury. There was no pattern, no organisation, no finishing and no clue and all this against a Southampton team bottom of the league, with an awful record and no manager. Simply unacceptable. Arguably of more concern was the injury to Cesar Azpilicueta who recieved a terrible kick in the head thanks to a badly directed overhead kick. .Our best wishes go to 'Dave' for a speedy recovery. And Chidge & JK have come up with a couple of songs to cheer you up or depress you further...In part two we ask is Potters out of his depth; not elite level and not the leader or personality Chelsea needs? Is he wasting players? I.e., making them worse? He’s lost the match day support; if he loses to Spurs, Leeds and then BVB knock us out of the Champions' League, surely his position is untenable. We could argue he should go now but who could/should replace him - temporarily and/or permanently? And how much of this is on Boehly and Co? Are they stubborn or clueless? And a timely reminder that whilst it may be truly depressing on the pitch, off the pitch before and after remains as the main joy of following our club. The definition of a great day out ruined by 90 minutes of football. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #965

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Meehan and from The Athletic, Liam Twomey to look back at Chelsea's defeat to Borussia Dortmund and ahead to the atch against Southampton on Saturday. In part one we discuss a horrible result, but a good performance and Mark’s experience of the Signal Iduna Park and the 'Yellow Wall'. Nine, nein, nein, as Chelsea just cannot put their chances away and the new boys and returnees beginning to make a difference and our hopes for the second leg. And Liam provides great insight with the media's view of Potter and his press conferences. In part two we discuss Chidge's team selection versus Potter's team selection. Saints are bottom, relegation bound, and have no manager – stop me if you’ve heard this before...We ask how do Chelsea solve their goal drought and we wrap up with our predictions. Hosted on Acast. Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Dayne Whittle to look back at the 1-1 draw against West Ham and ahead to Wednesday's Champions' League match away to Borussia Dortmund. In part one we discuss a promising start fading and dying; Felix looking the real deal; did Cheek and Fernandes work and why didn't Cucurella and Mudryk not work? And should we be worried by James not yet looking back to his best.In part two VAR screws us again and should Potter have reacted more aggressivley to it? Joe Cole thought so. With Chelsea's form still not good enough, there are signs of improvement but are we being unrealistically impatient with Ponderous Platitudinous Potter? And in Part three we preview the match against Borussia Dortmund, talking to Ben McFadyean who runs the Borussia Dortmund London Supporters Club. We start with Chidge's Team selection and look at West Ham who have been in relegation form but are now improving just in time for the visit of Chelsea. Will Moyes' terrible record against Chelsea be a factor? What about Chelsea's awful away form this season? “All We Are Saying, Is Give Us A Goal” Chelsea FanCast #960

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Tony Glover to look back at a frustrating 0-0 draw against noisy neighbours Fulham. In part one we discuss. We bemoan poor finishing again and ask are we one striker short of a picnic and if Havertz can't score then who canscore the goals? Fulham looked a team and Chelsea didn't. Did the new arrivals make this difficult and what is the on-pitch plan now? Meanwhile Enzo Fernandes looks a player and the defence is shaping up well with Silva and Badiashile developing a partnership, but why was Badiashile left out of the CL squad? In part two we discuss Cucurella and Ziyech infuriating again and why did Ziyech start given his failed move to PSG? But it was good to see Reece and Chilly back and Mudueke and Fofana looked promising. With Gallagher impressing again with good energy and forward motion, will Gallagher, Mount and Fernandes feature in the midfield more regulalarly? We wrap up asking how long all this is going to take to gel? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

With Jorginho the only significant departure, we reflect on his up an down Chelsea career, oh, and what on earth happened with Ziyech? In part two, we preview the Chelsea v Fulham match, kicking off with Chidge's team selection. With the new signings and the buxx around Cobham and Stamford Bridge, the supporters will no doubt be expecting immediate impacts, but will patience required? 'Vital Signs' Chelsea FanCast #957

Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd are joined by Dan Silver to look back at the 0-0 against Liverpool at Anfield. On the show tonight, we discuss a better performance and an ok result. Chelsea shwoing signs of life, enhanced by a lovely cameo from new signing Mudryk. And with Chelsea looking better going forward is this down to increased confidence or are Potter's ideas beginning to sink in?In part two, we praise Silva AGAIN! Especially in helping out new signing Badashiale who has impressed on his two appearances so far, But when James and Chilwell return, will Potter revert to a back three and wing backs or keep the back four? With Mount continuing to struggle we ask is it time for him to have a break and analyse the burden he has been under and reflect on the other potential reasons for his dip in form.We also show appreciation for Cesar Azlilicueta reaching the milestone of his 500th match for Chelsea, a feat never achieved by an overseas player for Chelsea and only the 6th Chelsea player of all time to achieve the landmark. And with the possibility of Chelsea's season turning around with the return of James, Chilwell, Felix, Fofana, Kante, Zakaria and the additions of Mudryk, Madueke, Fofana with more signings to come hopefully. We wrap up in part three with this week's emials from our listeners.
