Penn State practice recap The team was once again inside Holuba Hall for practice on Tuesday night. We'll recap what we saw up close and perosnal on the north sidelines of the building and what aspects of practice stood out in the third week of camp. We'll highlight the running backs, wide receivers and the way practice changed from the previous two open practices that the media saw to begin the season. Three thoughts from Penn State spring camp's halfway pointOf course, none of this happens in a vacuum and we have now seen enough of camp to draw some conclusions from the events. Greg Pickel joins the show to give his three thoughts at the halfway point of spring practice. What are the most interesting observations that have been evident for all three open practices? The Big Ten has released pre-seeds for its 2025 wrestling championships. The two-day event is slated for this Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9, at Northwestern. Big Ten Network will televise the opening, semifinal, and final sessions. B1G+ will stream the rest of them. Blue-White Illustrated will have complete coverage throughout the weekend as Penn State seeks its thrid straight conference tournament title.Below, we have three things we learned from the pre-seeds, which are not finalized until after Friday's coaches meeting in Evanston but are unlikely to change. The seeds look mostly as expectedUnlike some years, there was little social media outrage about the pre-seeds this year. They look mostly as many anticipated them to. Penn State has five top seeds -- Beau Bartlett (141), Shayne Van Ness (149), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165), Levi Haines (174), and Carter Starocci (184) -- as expected. Gabe Arnold is in for Iowa instead of Angelo Ferrari at 184 and is the No. 4 seed, which means he could meet Starocci in the semifinals after plenty of trash talk was exchanged before the Hawkeyes-Lions dual meet but Iowa went with Ferrari over Arnold opposite Starocci.Looking back at our roundup of seed projections, there were questions about where sophomore 133-pound starter Braeden Davis would end up. He is at No. 4, which was one potential landing spot. And, while most figured Shayne Van Ness would have the top seed at 149, there was some question about it. But, he did indeed land it. Penn State wrestling is off and running with the February portion of its schedule. The Nittany Lions have their first double dual weekend of the season on the horizon. Michigan battles head coach Cael Sanderson's team at the Bryce Jordan Center on Friday (6 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network) before Maryland invades Rec Hall at 1 p.m. ET on B1G+.“It’s unusual, as we talked about throughout the year, just the scheduling where we got Friday, Friday, Friday, and now we have a Friday, Sunday,” Sanderson said Monday. “But I think these weekends are really good training for the national tournament conference where you have a multiple-day tournament. So, we look at it all as training. And obviously, Michigan’s one of the top programs in the country. So we’re looking forward to that match, another match in the Jordan Center, and then being able to kind of turn around and wrestle Maryland, who’s wrestling really well. Despite a strong start, the team failed to capitalize on the lead, giving it up in the fourth quarter and, ultimately, losing. Penn State dominates the trenches but gives up big playsPenn State's offense got the ball rolling early by generating chunk plays on the ground. The team had 194 yards of offense in the first half and 141 of those came on the ground. The Lions put together two long scoring drives to control the flow. However, the star of the game in the trenches was injured star Abdul Carter. The pass rusher lined up opposite of his normal position to play with his good shoulder to the inside of the line. He tallied a sack and two TFLs in the first half. But it wasn't enough. The Penn State offense went silent in the third quarter, with just 25 total yards to Notre Dame's 128. Notre Dame took the lead in the early fourth quarter with a Jerimiyah Love scoring from inside the five yard line. Penn State bounced back with a scoring drive of its own, but the Irish continued to churn yards on the ground and mix in passes from quarterback Riley Leonard. Despite two interceptions, Leonard threw a touchdown over Cam Miller, who fell over in coverage, allowing a late fourth-quarter score and a field goal drive to lose the game after the Penn State offense went three and out with four minutes left. The team did it without star linebacker Abdul Carter, who went down with a shoulder injury in the first quarter and did not return. Overall, the team racked up eight tackles for loss to keep Jeanty contained before he got going.Offensively, Penn State used another strong game from Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton to power the win.
