The Buffalo Bills concluded their preseason schedule with a convincing 19-0 win over the Green Bay Packers Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. There was plenty to like from the win, along with several areas where the Bills can improve, and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico give you their thoughts on what they liked and what they didn't like after Buffalo went 3-0 this preseason. Among the players who made a favorable impression on our podcasters: Quarterback Josh Allen was superb in his first action of the preseason, completing 20 of 26 passes for 194 yards with two touchdowns. Wide receivers Gabriel Davis, Emmanuel Sanders, and Cole Beasley contributed to Buffalo's prolific passing display. Head coach Sean McDermott was creative with the play-calling and used the finale as a tune-up for the regular season, practicing different game scenarios. Running back Matt Breida was effective both as a pass catcher spread out wide and running the football. Cornerback Siran Neal rebounded nicely from two sub-par performances to deliver a lights-out performance. Defensive end A.J. Epenesa and defensive tackles Justin Zimmer and Ed Oliver enjoyed productive afternoons winning their matchups against the offensive line. Linebackers A.J. Klein and Andre Smith were all over the field. The Bills excelled on red zone defense, goal line defense, and fourth down defense. The crowd made noise for most of the afternoon and forced Green Bay's offense into a delay of game penalty. Those whose performances were less than stellar included: Cornerback Cam Lewis' poor play cannot inspire confidence in the Bills secondary depth behind starters Tre'Davious White and Levi Wallace. Offensive lineman Bobby Hart's struggles continued while fellow offensive lineman Tommy Doyle might be a year away from contributing. The run defense allowed more than 4.2 yards per carry, and the defense in general gave up large plays between the 20s. The Buffalo Bills ran their preseason win streak to seven with a thoroughly dominant 41-15 trouncing of the Chicago Bears Saturday afternoon at Soldier Field. There was plenty to like from the win, along with several areas where the Bills can improve, and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico give you their thoughts on what they liked and what they didn't like after Buffalo improved to 2-0 this preseason. Among the players who made a favorable impression on our podcasters: Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who effectively ran Brian Daboll's offense, guiding the Bills to touchdowns on their first four possessions while completing 20 of 28 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. Rookie edge rusher Greg Rousseau, who came up with a sack and three quarterback hurries on just nine snaps. Fellow defensive ends A.J. Epenesa and Carlos "Boogie" Basham Jr., who helped Buffalo's pass rush generate four sacks and 12 QB hits while causing chaos in the backfield. Running backs Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, who averaged 7.0 yards per carry in rushing for 42 yards on six carries. Singletary eluded the defense and broke off a 14-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-one, while Moss nearly scored on a nifty 11-yard scamper. Wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie, who rebounded from an early muff of a punt to catch seven passes for 72 yards. Tackle Spencer Brown, who played well at both left and right tackle and held his own going up against Khalil Mack. Wide receiver/returner Marquez Stevenson, who broke off an electrifying 79-yard punt return for a TD. Tight end Jacob Hollister, who might be pushing Dawson Knox for the TE1 role. Safety Damar Hamlin and cornerbacks Rachad Wildgoose and Nick McCloud. Those whose performances were less than stellar included: Tackle Bobby Hart, whose poor play along the offensive line could get one of Buffalo's quarterbacks hurt. Tight end Dawson Knox, who continues to struggle with drops and consistency. Quarterbacks Davis Webb and Jake Fromm, who failed to build upon a successful preseason opener. Cornerback Siran Neal, who was badly beaten on a long touchdown pass before halftime. Injuries, as Brown, Stevenson, Harrison Phillips, Dane Jackson (stinger), and Tommy Doyle all left the game with injuries. The Buffalo Bills kicked off the 2021 preseason with a 16-15 road win over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. There was plenty to like and plenty of areas where the Bills can improve, and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico give you their thoughts on what they liked and what they didn't like after Buffalo's preseason-opening win. Among the players who made a favorable impression on our podcasters: Rookie edge rusher Greg Rousseau, who came up with a first-quarter sack and added three quarterback hurries on 11 pass rush snaps. Linebacker Andre Smith was all over the field, making eight tackles and an acrobatic interception that was negated by a roughing the passer penalty. Running back Devin Singletary, who averaged 5.3 yards per carry in rushing for 42 yards and adding a six-yard touchdown catch. Quarterbacks Davis Webb and Jake Fromm, who combined to complete 19 of 29 passes for 155 yards with one TD and no turnovers. Kicker Tyler Bass, who drilled the game-winning field goal and finished with 10 points (three field goals, one extra point). Safeties Josh Thomas and Damar Hamlin, who are both vying for spots on the 53-man roster behind starters Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Those whose performances were less than stellar included: Tackle Bobby Hart, who allowed Detroit's pass rushers to constantly get after Webb and Fromm. Cornerbacks Dane Jackson and Siran Neal, who both struggled in pass coverage. Edge rusher Carlos "Boogie" Basham, who was not impactful as a pass rusher and struggled going up against Detroit's second- and third-team offensive linemen. The Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen both expressed confidence in the ability to hammer out a long-term contract extension. Turns out, both sides were right to not be worried about agreeing to a contract extension that will keep Buffalo’s All Pro quarterback, the face of the franchise, in Western New York for the foreseeable future. On a breaking news episode of Billieve, host John Boccacino dissects the contract extension, which is worth $258 million with $150 million guaranteed over six years. It will keep Allen with the Bills through the 2027 season. Allen, the first QB from the 2018 class to sign a long-term extension, will be paid an average of $43 million per year (and $25 million per year guaranteed). Boccacino shares why this deal makes sense for both Allen and the Bills, why it is great news to have a deal in place before the season starts (removing a potential distraction), and how the if Allen plays as well as he did in 2020, this contract will be seen as a relative bargain. Especially when compared to the four-year, $160M extension given to Dak Prescott. The Buffalo Bills are coming off of their most successful season in 27 years, and they brought back most of their players from last year’s squad that went 13-3, won the AFC East and advanced into the AFC Championship for the first time since 1993. Training camp opened Wednesday, and the competition will be intense to make the 53-man roster.
