S5 Ep 145Justice, Revenge, Complicity and Creativity

Episode #145:Rebecca Keller, a visual artist, has recently released her first novel, "You Should Have Known." It takes place in an assisted living facility and the main character faces a moral dilemma of justice and revenge. She realizes along the way how her actions bring unexpected consequences and potentially make others complicit in her actions. In this episode, we explore her book and the themes of justice and revenge. We also discuss whether creativity is something that can be developed or is hard-wired into someone. Wendy and Rebecca examine the topic of responsibility and accountability in public life. Rebecca uses a compelling analogy, saying, "you toss a stone in a pond, and the ripple spreads," to explain the far-reaching impact of decisions made by those in power. Their discussion highlights the importance of awareness of potential consequences of one's actions and asserts that accountability gets compounded with the knowledge of these consequences. When we get back to the question of creativity, Rebecca talks about the importance of being patient, taking time to search for fresh and unique ideas, and not giving up too soon when attempting something creative or new. She notes that failures are part of the creative process. The challenge is learning how to distinguish what things are working and what things are not.Sponsors:Road Scholar - the not-for-profit leader in educational travel for Boomers and beyondAnnie's Kit Club - use promo code BOOMER for 50% off your first orderPlease Subscribe, Rate & Reviewon Apple Podcast, Stitcher ,  or SpotifyFollow us on Facebook, LinkedIn and InstagramEmail me with questions or comments at [email protected] Rebecca Keller at rebeccaakeller.com–Join the Boomer Banter. S5 Ep 134Saving the Planet: Intergenerational Climate Action w/ Samuel Rubin & Frances Stewart

"We have to do everything we can to avoid exceeding the 1.5 degrees temperature increase right now. According to the IPCC report, that is projected to happen in less than ten years, if we keep at the current pace. We have to do everything possible to reduce emissions and change the energy supply - it's not too late to save the planet!" ~ Samuel RubinThat was the message of my conversation with Dr. Frances Stewart and Social Impact Producer Samuel Rubin. From different generations, Samuel and Frances are deeply involved in climate action. Frances is the co-chair of education for EldersClimateAction.org. Samuel is a Social Impact Producer and Innovation Fellow at CoGenerate, leveraging the power of storytelling to activate and educate audiences for climate action. Fascinating insights about working across generations, building community, building empathy, recognizing the value of all generations in addressing the climate crisis."Many people don't get involved because they are discouraged. They feel like this is a hill we can't climb. But there is so much we can do, if we work together." ~ Frances StewartTakeaways and Actions you can take now:Look for tax credits and rebates to make homes more energy efficient.VOTE!Find one or more groups you can work with.Email your congresspeople, local representatives, governor, president.Join EldersClimateAction.orgRealize it's not hopeless and you are not powerlessVisit CanYouHearUs.org & find the Intergenerational Discussion GuideGET INVOLVED.Resources:EldersClimateAction.orgFrances.Stewart6@gmail.comCanYouHearUs.orgimpact@[email protected] with me:[email protected]://heyboomer.bizInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/heyboomerpodcast/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/heyboomerpodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/HeyBoomerLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/wendy-green-cpc-heyboomerlive/Loved this episode? S5 Ep 133Kathi Kulesza - From Boomers to Zoomers: Intergenerational Leadership

Kathi Kulesza is an inspiring leader and speaker with over three decades of experience in the hospitality industry. She has shared her life changing lessons with over 20,000 up and coming leaders at 600 plus events. In this episode we shared our experiences as Boomer Women in male-dominated workplaces and how we tried to blend in, wore business suits, and hadn't learned how to be assertive. There is a change with younger women. From the way they dress, to owning their individuality to being more outspoken. This led to a discussion of mentoring and reverse mentoring, because we have much to learn from each generation.Kathi suggests that approaching the different generations requires an open mindset. Calling people "older" can give the young manager the impression that they are almost expired and therefore no longer useful. Changing the wording to "seasoned" shifts the perspective to someone who is experienced and can still contribute.Key Takeaways from this episode:Try to see the world through the lens of curiosity. In other words, what is the other person thinking of feeling?Be more human. You can hold people accountable and still be nice. The question to ask is "how can I help this person?"Use "I" messages when communicating with a boss, rather than placing blame. Honesly tell them that you want to help them be successful. Put yourself in their shoes.Connect with me:[email protected]: https://heyboomer.bizInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/heyboomerpodcast/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/heyboomerpodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/HeyBoomerLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/wendy-green-cpc-heyboomerlive/Loved this episode?
