Allez Les Rouges: Huge games loom for Reds as FSG get fresh investment

The international break is over! But to help you get you through the final days before proper football is back, Peter Hooton is back with his Allez Les Rouges podcast, featuring regular guests Ste Monaghan and Kieth Culvin, plus journalist and author Simon Hughes. The panel talk Liverpool’s impending return to action, at Arsenal on Saturday, and then the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Real Madrid on Tuesday. It looks like the Reds will need to win the club’s seventh European Cup after falling off the pace in the top-four race in the Premier League if they are to play Champions League football next season. So that leads to a discussion over whether FSG will regret moving so late in the January transfer window for centre-back reinforcements. With Ibrahima Konate a potential target, will Liverpool’s owners move faster to snap up targets in the summer? Simon gives his expert insight into that and into the major FSG investment deal with RedBird Capital Partners, which was confirmed just hours after the podcast was recorded.Watch and subscribe to our Blood Red videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BloodRedLiverpoolFCSign up for our Liverpool FC newsletters: https://data.reachplc.com/210734476470860Join our Blood Red podcast group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1656599847979758/ Learn more about your ad choices. The Bottom Line: LeBron James, Gerry Cardinale and what $750m investment into FSG means for Liverpool

Welcome to a brand new show on the Blood Red podcast channel, which we’re tentatively calling ‘The Bottom Line’. Why ‘The Bottom Line’? Because this podcast is all about football finances – and Liverpool Football Club’s in particular. The Liverpool ECHO now has a dedicated business of football writer, Dave Powell, and we will be calling on him, plus special guests, to give our listeners an understanding of what’s going on off the pitch at Anfield and elsewhere. To kick us off, Paul Wheelock talks to Dave about two big stories that have emerged this week involving basketball superstar LeBron James and an investment firm called RedBird Capital Partners that is fronted by financier Gerry Cardinale. James (1%) and RedBird (10%) are buying stakes in the owners of Liverpool FC, Fenway Sports Group. So what does it mean for the Premier League champions? Dave discusses that, as well as touching on FSG’s approach to running the Reds; the impact, if any, that missing out on Champions League football will have, and what supporters can expect when the club’s latest financial accounts are released. Hope you enjoy the podcast and if there’s anything you would like us to cover on future shows, please get in touch with @_DavePowell and @PaulWheelock on Twitter.Watch and subscribe to our Blood Red videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BloodRedLiverpoolFCJoin our Blood Red podcast group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1656599847979758/ Learn more about your ad choices. Blood Red: Diogo Jota, the difference maker Liverpool needed earlier in top-four fight

The 1-0 win at Wolves on Monday was the type of game Liverpool won regularly on the way to the Premier League title last season. And is the 19-day break until their next match going to help or hinder their chances? Liverpool travel to Wolves off the back of a morale-boosting Champions League victory midweek - needing to translate that form into the Premier League. Matt Addison speaks to Birmingham Live's Wolves reporter Alex Dicken to get the lowdown from Molineux ahead of the clash between the sides. Raul Jiminez has been missing through injury, contributing to Wolves' poor performances in the league under Nuno Espirito Santo - and Alex says he has been as big a loss as any of the Reds stars who are out. Under the Radar: Spotlight on Ibrahima Konate, the Liverpool-linked centre-back compared to Virgil van Dijk

Ahead of the Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against RB Leipzig on Wednesday, we get the lowdown on a player who Liverpool will be up against in Budapest, and who, if reports are to be believed, is a possible summer transfer target for Jurgen Klopp. Ibrahima Konate is thought to have a release clause similar - €40m - to fellow Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano, who is moving to Bayern Munich. Konate is being tipped to follow Upamecano in leaving the Bundesliga outfit in the near future - with Liverpool one of the clubs to have been linked with the 21-year-old Frenchman. So what type of player is he? Would he be worth the money? And would he sign for the Reds even without Champions League football? Matt Addison speaks to former team-mate of Liverpool boss Klopp, Guido Schafer, who is now a journalist for Leipzig-based newspaper Leipziger Volkszeitung, and then Josh Williams, our tactics and analytics writer, to find out whether there could - or should - be anything in links between the Premier League champions and Konate.Watch and subscribe to our Blood Red videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BloodRedLiverpoolFCJoin our Blood Red podcast group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1656599847979758/ Learn more about your ad choices. Analysing Anfield: Numbers don't lie for Liverpool as Steven Gerrard channels Jose Mourinho

After Liverpool lost to Chelsea and then Fulham, what do the numbers say about their current slump? Well, the pattern is interesting, if not particularly encouraging for the rest of the 2020/21 season. Join Josh Williams and David Hughes as they talk through the numbers, statistics and underlying metrics and question whether a change of tactics from Jurgen Klopp could be the answer - or even if it should have already been done. After that comes a look into Steven Gerrard's Rangers and the incredible job the Liverpool legend is doing in Scotland, with the metrics for his team favourable compared to any of the top clubs around Europe, particularly on the defensive side. There is then a preview of Liverpool's second-leg Champions League last-16 tie with RB Leipzig, and a look forward to Wolves in the Premier League on Monday night - with both matches, particularly the European one, potentially tricky in their own ways.Watch and subscribe to our Blood Red videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BloodRedLiverpoolFCJoin our Blood Red podcast group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1656599847979758/ Learn more about your ad choices. Blood Red: Jurgen Klopp, Mohamed Salah and why Liverpool need to look at themselves

Join Paul Gorst, Ian Doyle, David Lynch and host Guy Clarke for the Blood Red podcast as they talk Jurgen Klopp, Mohamed Salah and Liverpool’s continued fall from grace. The Reds lost 1-0 to Chelsea on Thursday night to put their Champions League hopes in jeopardy with Klopp’s call to take Salah off raising eyebrows – most notably with the Egyptian forward’s agent. Liverpool have not been helped by a series of injuries to centre-backs and defensive midfielders. But after suffering a fifth straight home loss for the first time in the club’s history, can that completely explain their worrying form? The panel try to answer that question, looking at the lack of creativity and threat, the midfield 'pressing problem', FSG and the club’s recruitment, plus some of Klopp's recent decisions, including the one to hook Salah against Chelsea. And after the inquest ends, and VAR is given a good kicking, it's time for team selections and score predictions for the visit of Fulham to Anfield on Sunday. Behind Enemy Lines: Jurgen Klopp disciple plotting Liverpool's downfall in crucial Champions League shootout

Liverpool vs Chelsea in the Premier League on Thursday night is shaping up to be a huge clash in the race for the Champions League spots - and it's loaded full of sub-plots. New Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is a disciple of Jurgen Klopp, having followed the Liverpool boss in managing Mainz and then Borussia Dortmund, while Timo Werner was, for a long time, someone Klopp thought about bringing to Anfield, before he instead opted for Diogo Jota, who could be back for the big match after injury and illness.
