S4 Ep 194The Uluru Statement: Changing The First Nations' Narrative with Thomas Mayor

Some years ago, while living in Broken Hill, I was privileged to work closely with the local aboriginal community. It was through this work that I learned the very real and tangible power of storytelling to bridge gaps and help foster positive change. As a non-aboriginal Australian, this experience helped motivate my desire to understand my Australian story in a way that connects to, acknowledges past hurts and celebrates the incredible stories of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tribes.Thomas Mayor is the National Indigenous Officer at the Maritime Union of Australia, and a passionate advocate of the Uluru Statement and the three reforms contained within it. In fact, the Statement is an invitation to all Australians - to "walk with us" and support the proposed reforms to create a better future for the entire Australian nation. S4 Ep 192Wabi Sabi: Embracing Imperfection with Michelle Cox

In traditional Japanese philosophy, wabi sabi (侘寂) is a world view that sees beauty in imperfection. A concept that as we muddle through remote working and home schooling during COVID-19 restrictions, I have seen an increased number of people embrace. Business meetings from home via Zoom have increased our empathy for life's imperfections, as we navigate interruptions from dogs, children and technology issues. My guest this week has been guided by this philosophy for a number of years.Michelle Cox describes herself as a "reluctant author" even though she has just written and launched three books in her Wabi Sabi Series. Michelle is passionate about embracing the unconventional and challenging the status quo. Her personal journey has been full of challenges, from cancer to considerable loss. But these 'imperfections' in life are what make her human and motivated her to release her book series. In episode 192 of Be The Drop, recorded LIVE from Pause Fest, Michelle talks about the concept of wabi sabi - embracing imperfection and how the book series came to fruition. She also shares her thoughts on the power of simplicity in communication.----Are you considering starting a podcast? At Narrative Marketing, we deliver a full range of podcast production options. Through AI, the footage and content is selected and editing using the viewers specific profile information. Using personality, behaviour and intent elements the software creates programmatic storytelling videos delivered at mass scale. In episode 191 of Be The Drop, recorded LIVE from Pause Fest, Nathan blows my mind with examples of personalised video content this software has created. As a mum and a marketer, I'm fascinated with how we connect to one another as humans - how we learn, how we relate and how we grow into being the best versions of ourselves. John Hunter is an educator of more than 40 years and the inventor of the World Peace Game, a fascinating child-centred, collaborative learning-based board game available in 36 countries. The game encourages children to develop effective communication and conflict resolution skills, while empowering them to experiment and make their own decisions. S4 Ep 164Stress Management: Before The Breakdown

When it comes to looking after ourselves, most of us treat symptoms when they appear instead of managing our lifestyle to prevent them from occurring. Susie Hopkins is an expert on stress, she knows exactly what the weight of stress feels like whether it be stress from work, family, or your own expectations. Susie's reaction to the stress in her life was to learn how to manage them, and based on the knowledge she built from her journey, she established Lilo Wellness, a science-based stress management business. In today's episode of Be The Drop, we discuss techniques to deal with the hurdles life throws our way. Susie's own stress-inducing journey from nurse to small business owner is one of many examples she uses to explain why we get stressed, what the consequences are, and how we can both manage and prevent stress. ---- When I find something useful for my business, I like to share the love! S4 Ep 159Creating A Documentary Series - The Journey Begins

I'm very excited in this episode to announce a special project that we're currently working on. With assistance from the Community Broadcasting Fundation, Channel 44 and supporting partners, we are creating an 8 part TV, web and podcast interview series called: Transcending The Gender Narrative. The aim of the series is to provide a diverse viewpoint of the women and men, who are championing diversity and equality. The series will share positive success stories from women as well as insights from the men who are proactive in this space. We will investigate how to shift our conversations from an "us + them" or "he + she" mentality to an inclusive approach, that focuses on us as humans, rather than focus on our gender. In today's episode of Be The Drop, I discusses why we are creating this documentary series, and we hear from two of the project team members. I also explain the process we're going through in order to create content that we hope will help shape change to the limitations of our current gender narratives. ---- This documentary series was made possible with support from the Community Broadcasting Foundation. S3 Ep 154S P A C E Series: The Power Of Doing Different

space series set ambitions to bring together "a community of disruptive leaders to disconnect, collaborate, and create. For unlikely people, to share unexpected conversations." s p a c e 2019 was all these things and more. I returned feeling positively vulnerable and expanded. Many conferences talk about uniting community to drive change but in reality, unlike s p a c e, few truly do. CJ Holden is one of the creators of space series, an event which defies traditional description; more like a festival of ideas than a conference, it successfully delivered something different. There are no official speakers or themes at s p a c e, the content is designed and led by the guests. The program is co-created with all guests contributing; there are no passive participants at s p a c e. In today's episode of Be The Drop, CJ shares his inspiration to disrupt the conference format by curating a truly immersive and results driven experience. We discuss how space series successfully delivered productive and inspiring conversations, and celebrate the post event achievement of community driven action. ---- When I find something useful for my business, I like to share the love! S3 Ep 150Embrace Your Self Worth To Drive Your Success

Meeting expectations is something that can often cause people anxiety or stress. Some of the worst expectations are the unrealistic ones we place on ourselves in an attempt to 'be successful'. However, there is no universal determination of success and therefore many of these expectations become unattainable. The challenge is therefore how to create our own definition of self worth and value. Milly Toovey has battled with expectations throughout her life. Through her work for SACARE and side hustle MILCO, Milly is driven to help others who may also face these challenges. Having travelled and worked around the world, Milly has developed brand identities for a diverse range of businesses while also finding her own identity and setting her own expectations. In today's episode of Be The Drop, Milly shares how her personal experiences feed into her professional life as she developed from follower to leader, to determine her own unique self worth. S3 Ep 148Vinnies CEO Sleepout 2019: Together We Can Make A Difference

June is a significant time for business, preparing from end of financial year, may seem tedious and difficult, however, this pales in comparison to the challenges faced by our homeless population on cold and wet winter nights. This year was my fourth year participating in the CEO Sleepout, which to me is an opportunity to be a part of something that raises both funds and awareness for the vulnerable in our community. The Saint Vincent de Paul Society, often referred to as Vinnies, is an organisation giving the Australian homeless population a hand up, not a hand out. With 60,000 members and volunteers in Australia, Vinnies has helped change lives of those in need since 1854. In today's episode, I speak to a number of participants and volunteers at the CEO Sleepout. I share the stories and motivations from some of the people who are passionately and actively working to help reduce homelessness; to help us consider what other things we can do to help support this worthy cause. Recorded LIVE from the Adelaide CEO Sleepout. ---- If you haven't yet donated to Amelia's fundraising for Vinnies, it's not too late!
