Ep 114Baseball and BBQ Episode #114: 4th Anniversary Special featuring Howard Johnson and Doug Scheiding

Celebrate our 4 year anniversary as we are joined by Howard Johnson and Doug Scheiding with great baseball and excellent barbecue talk and Leonard and Jeff reminiscence about the last year.Howard Johnson aka HoJo as millions of baseball fans affectionately call him is back and helping us celebrate our anniversary. We have a great time discussing baseball and barbecue with this outstanding player on two World Series winning teams, a three-time member of the 30-30 club, and a two-time All-Star. He must be very fond of us, because he agreed to join us on his birthday. He agreed to join us, but not to sit still as he ran around the house and then quickly got into a car which whisked him away to a birthday celebration while still talking to us. We got to sing him happy birthday, ask some baseball questions, and Doug gives him some barbecue tips.Doug Scheiding first came onto the show almost two years ago and we said some of the following. That he was a true renaissance man. That he is the first rocket scientist we have had as a guest. That he is pitmaster of the award-winning competition barbecue team, Rogue Cookers, embedded correspondent on The BBQ Central Show, Traeger Pellet Grills representative, and Head Country brand ambassador. That he is also an avid Chicago Cubs fan and quite a knowledgeable baseball fan. We said it then and we will say it now that he is just one of the nicest guys, in barbecue or out, that you would ever want to meet. We are so happy to celebrate our anniversary with Doug and listen as he gives our baseball champion, HoJo some winning barbecue tips.Jeff has a baseball rant and Leonard and Jeff reminiscence about the last year.We conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show: (516) 855-8214Email: [email protected]: @baseballandbbqInstagram: baseballandbarbecueYouTube: baseball and bbqWebsite: https://baseballandbbq.weebly.comFacebook: baseball and bbq Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 113Baseball and BBQ Episode #113: Ted Giannoulas, AKA World Famous Sports Mascot, The San Diego Chicken and Randall Thompson, President and Founder of Dugout Mugs, and BBQ Gift Ideas

Episode #113 features Ted Giannoulas, AKA World Famous Sports Mascot, The San Diego Chicken and Randall Thompson, President and Founder of Dugout Mugs, and BBQ Gift IdeasTed Giannoulas dressed in his first chicken costume in 1974 when he was a 20-year-old college journalism major and from those humble beginnings he became one of the world's most famous sports mascots, known as the San Diego Chicken. Since then has made more than 5,000 appearances in over 900 different facilities, 50 states, and eight countries while wearing out more than 100 chicken suits. The San Diego Chicken has been featured on magazine covers, music video's, movies, television shows and commercials, and even made an appearance with President Ronald Reagan. In 1981 the San Diego Chicken co-starred on the Saturday morning children's television series, The Baseball Bunch with his fellow co-stars, Johnny Bench and Tommy Lasorda. The hit show ran for five seasons and featured tons of exceptional MLB players offering their baseball advice and playing tips. The success of the San Diego Chicken helped lead to mascots becoming widespread throughout professional sports. The Chicken was named one of the 100 most powerful people in sports for the 20th century by The Sporting News. The New York Times called him "perhaps the most influential mascot in sports history."Randall Thompson is the president and founder of Dugout Mugs. The idea for these drinking mugs which are made from baseball bats started in 2014 when Thompson was coaching at Florida Tech and the hitting coach was telling the players to, "Focus on the hands." To emphasize the point, the coach cut off the top of a baseball bat and left the barrel sitting on the bench. Thompson saw this tossed away piece of wood as a chance to create a drinking cup. Thankfully his creative skills were better than his baseball skills as he started the company after being released by a minor league affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. As he reflects upon in the interview, the Blue Jays may have released him too soon, but rather than languishing in the minors, he founded a company and a team of employees that are quite special. There are many items which will make excellent gifts. Go to https://dugoutmugs.com/ to learn more.In between the interviews, Jeff and Len offer ideas for the many gifts available for barbecue and even baseball lovers, as we are in the season of giving. We conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Ace and Bobo" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. Ep 112Baseball and BBQ Episode #112: John Vampatella, Author of The Forgotten Game and Vic Clevenger, Award Winning Pitmaster Known As The Cookin' Comedian

Episode #112 features John Vampatella, author of The Forgotten Game and award winning pitmaster, Vic Clevenger. John Vampatella is an outstanding author whose latest project is The Forgotten Game which details one of the greatest games in baseball history between the two most bitter rivals in the sport, the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. In the 2004 American League Championship Series the two teams faced off and it looked as if the Yankees who had taken the first three games in the best of seven series were about to win and advance to yet another World Series appearance until Boston miraculously won game 4. Most fans remember Curt Schilling’s sutured ankle in game 6, but game 5 was a do-or-die moment for the Red Sox, and they delivered in epic fashion. Yet, despite being the pivotal game in the series, it hasn’t drawn the attention the others have. The Forgotten Game breaks down game 5 on a virtual pitch-by-pitch basis, from the battle between Pedro Martinez and Mike Mussina, to the clutch performances by Tim Wakefield and David Ortiz, while breaking down the strategies the managers employed, and stories of how various players made their way to their respective teams for that fateful night. The game lasted 14 pressure filled innings and John Vampatella has created a book which is just as exciting as the game itself.Vic Clevenger is a comedian, speaker, freelance writer, inventor, and award winning pitmaster. He truly is a barbecue Renaissance man and is often referred to as the Cookin' Comedian. Vic was kind enough to join us as he made his way back from the World Food Championships in Dallas, Texas. Almost immediately we could tell we were going to have a great conversation, but would not have enough time. He is definitely on the list of guests we will need to have back. His latest project is the Chimney Cartel which is a new type of cooker. That is in addition to his being a brand ambassador for B&B Charcoal. We hope you will enjoy hearing from a pitmaster who loves life as longs as barbecue is a part of it.We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show: (516) 855-8214Email: [email protected]: @baseballandbbqInstagram: baseballandbarbecueYouTube: baseball and bbqWebsite: https://baseballandbbq.weebly.comFacebook: baseball and bbq Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 107Baseball and BBQ Episode #107: Part Two of Greg Rempe of the BBQ Central Show & Ron Blomberg, Baseball's 1st DH

Episode 107 features the second halves of fascinating conversations with Ron Blomberg, the 1st official MLB designated hitter and Greg Rempe, host of The BBQ Central Show. Ron Blomberg was only getting started in episode 105. In the 2nd part of our conversation he discusses the many ways' baseball has changed and his feelings toward those changes. He talks about his love for the New York fans as well as his love of food and being banned from an all-you-can-eat restaurant. Ron was the New York Yankees first overall pick in the 1967 amateur draft and on April 6, 1973, he became the first major-leaguer to bat as a designated hitter in a regular season game. He is also an author and his latest book, The Captain & Me: On and Off the Field with Thurman Munson provides great information on Ron's career, but more importantly provides an in-depth look into the special relationship he had with Thurman Munson whom he refers to as his "brother." Ron and Thurman shared many wonderful times together and hearing him describe their friendship makes one appreciate their special bond. Ron was an exceptional athlete, played the game hard, and it is quite apparent he has lived his life with the same passion with which he played. We end the conversation with a very long goodbye. Greg Rempe is back for the 2nd half of our conversation and will talk about barbecue, but he is also a big baseball fan who, like many of us, has very strong opinions on many things in the game. Our baseball talk included the Cleveland team and their new name, bad trades Cleveland has made, favorite players, steroid users, and so much more. Greg does not hold back and was unafraid to answer any questions we threw at him, including who should play the part of Greg Rempe if The BBQ Central Show was ever made into a movie. Greg and Jeff have a friendly debate and Greg discusses his trust issues. Greg is the creator and host of the longest running, most listened to, and extremely entertaining shows dealing with live fire cooking, The BBQ Central Show. His show can be heard live every Tuesday night from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm and is released in podcast format; the first hour on Wednesday and the second hour on Thursday. Then on Fridays you can catch up on parts of past episodes listening to The Best Moments of The BBQ Central Show in 10 Minutes or Less. It's time to right a long-time wrong and episode 106 is our attempt at doing that by featuring Ed Kranepool, Kevin Kernan, Mike Lecolant, and Sam Maxwell as they provide compelling arguments for finally inducting Gil Hodges Into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.Ed Kranepool was only 17 years old in 1962 when the expansion team, New York Mets were formed and then spent the next 18 years wearing blue and orange. Kranepool was an important member of the 1969 Miracle Mets and when he retired after the 1979 season at the age of 34, he was the all-time Mets leader in eight offensive categories. He both played with Gil Hodges and played for Gil Hodges as Hodges effectively used player platoons to manage the Mets to their first-ever World Series Championship. Kranepool uses that experience to give his rather convincing opinions on why Gil Hodges belongs in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.Kevin Kernan spent 44 years writing sports for major newspapers, 23 years of them as a columnist at the New York Post and his latest columns are featured on the website, https://ballnine.com/index.html He was recently inducted into the New York Baseball Hall of Fame. He knows tons about baseball, not only from his many years covering it, but also from his firsthand experience as a star first baseman for Ramapo College in 1976 and 1977. Kernan provides strong arguments for finally inducting Gil Hodges into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.Mike Lecolant and Sam Maxwell are Brooklyn, New York residents and proud New York Mets fans. They offer their unique perspective on the effects which Gil Hodges had on the borough of Brooklyn, many of which are still all around them today. Mike and Sam join their other cohost, Rich Sparago on The Metsian Podcast, https://www.blogtalkradio.com/themetsianpodcastwsamrichandmike and it is a worthwhile listen. Ep 104Baseball and BBQ Episode #104: Erik Sherman, Author of Two Sides of Glory, Part 2 and Lee Ann Whippen, Champion Pitmaster

Episode 104 features Part 2 with author, Erik Sherman and a visit with pitmaster extraordinaire, Lee Ann Whippen. Erik Sherman writes baseball books and he does that exceptionally well. Whether the books are about one specific player or one specific team, Erik provides wonderful and unique perspectives which baseball fans will thoroughly enjoy. His latest project will be a welcome addition to any baseball fans library. In Two Sides of Glory: The 1986 Boston Red Sox In Their Own Words, Erik provides a glimpse into something rarely seen. Frequently, books are written about the winning teams, but how often does one have the chance to read about the losing team and learn of their feelings as well as finding out about things happening with their lives. All of that and so much more is in Two Sides of Glory. The 1986 Boston Red Sox lost game six to the New York Mets in an unforgettable and devastating fashion and then proceeded to lose game seven and had to watch as the New York Mets celebrated and prevented them from winning their first World Series in 68 years. The team was made up of some of the most well-known and talented players to ever wear their team's laundry and the stories and lesser known facts will make this an interview you will enjoy about a book you will not be able to put-down until the last page. Part one of the interview was good, but part two is even better. Lee Ann Whippen has found a way to combine her barbecuing skills, her ease in front of a camera, and her strong work ethic into a delicious recipe for success. She developed her love of cooking barbecue from an early age, learning from her dad, and she has used that knowledge and love to become an extremely well-known and respected pitmaster. As a competition cook she has won multiple world, national, and state barbecue championships. On television, she has shone brightly on various competition shows, winning the premier season of BBQ Brawl on Food Network and defeating Bobby Flay on Throwdown with Bobby Flay. She is also a restaurateur who has owned restaurants in Virginia, Illinois, and Florida. She is a two-time finalist for the BBQ Hall of Fame and she has no qualms discussing being a woman pitmaster in a mostly male dominated field as well as the various effects it has had on her career. She recently became an official ambassador for Pit Boss Grills. With all of that going on, she still took the time to join us for a wonderful conversation. We conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Ace and Bobo" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. The team was made up of some of the most well-known and talented players to ever wear their team's laundry and the stories and lesser known facts will make this an interview you will enjoy about a book you will not be able to put-down until the last page. Enjoy part one and look forward to part two.Sarit Packer and Itamar Srulovich are a wife and husband team who opened their first Middle Eastern themed restaurant, Honey & Co in London, England in 2012. Additionally, they are the authors of three cookbooks. Their newest London restaurant is Honey & Smoke and their latest cookbook, filled with incredible recipes and beautiful photos is Chasing Smoke: Cooking Over Fire Around The Levant. We begin with a quick lesson on what is meant by the Levant and then get into a discussion of their lives which began in Israel and eventually brought them to London where they now provide their customers with delicious food at their two restaurants and one specialty grocery store. The book takes the reader on a journey which includes their favorite cities as they collected recipes, stories, and the best of culinary culture along the way. The book is organized into five ingredient-led chapters (fruit and vegetables, fish and seafood, birds, lamb and other meats, and bread and unmissables). If you have been wondering what else is possible to make over a live fire then this is the cookbook for you. Despite the five-hour time difference, Sarit and Itamar managed to find the time to charm us as we spoke of everything, including their special relationship which works extremely well as they are a delightful force to be reckoned with. We conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show - (516) 855-8214Email - [email protected] - @baseballandbbqInstagram - baseballandbarbecueYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https://baseballandbbq.weebly.com Facebook - baseball and bbq Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 102Baseball and BBQ Episode #102: Joey Machado from Blues Hog & Tim Neverett, Author of Covid Curveball, the 2020 Los Angeles Dodgers World Championship Season

Episode 102 is filled with baseball, barbecue, and a contest for the greatest podcast audience ever.Joey Machado is a marketing guru and the barbecue community is lucky he is a part of it. In part two of our interview we learn more about Blues Hog BBQ and Gateway Drum Smokers, but it humorously begins with a Seinfeld TV show reference. From there we learn why Tim Scheer is a genius and has Joey's, as well as the barbecue industry's ultimate respect. Joey provides exceptional information, but more importantly he is a prime example of how barbecue people are some of the friendliest you will ever meet.Tim Neverett spent last year like most of America, unsure of what each day would bring during a pandemic. The difference though is that most of America does not work as a television and radio play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2020, the major league baseball season, usually a 162 game marathon became a 60 game sprint played in front of empty/cardboard cutout filled stands. Each day Tim chronicled his time with the team as well as what was happening in this country outside of baseball. The abbreviated 60 game season was hard fought and ultimately won by the Dodgers. Covid Curveball: An Inside View of the 2020 Los Angeles Dodgers World Championship Season is Tim's in-depth look at one of the strangest baseball season's ever, and we were lucky to have the chance to discuss this great book. Elda's Kitchen was featured in episode 97 as we interviewed co-owner, Brie Blackford. They are now sponsoring a contest specifically for our listeners. We wish everyone good luck.In-between the two interviews Leonard tells us about a special day he spent at Yankee Stadium. Without spoiling it, the day included Tino Martinez and Mariano Rivera. We conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Ace and Bobo" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show - (516) 855-8214Email - [email protected] - @baseballandbbqInstagram - baseballandbarbecueYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https://baseballandbbq.weebly.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 101Baseball and BBQ Episode #101: Field of Dreams Baseball Talk, Andrea Williams, Author of Baseball's Leading Lady, and Joey Machado from Blues Hog BBQ

Episode 101 is overloaded with incredible guests and wonderful discussions.MLB at Field of Dreams Game was a huge success and we were fortunate to speak with three extremely dedicated baseball fans who made the trek to Dyersville, Iowa to witness this highly anticipated game. Join us as we welcome previous show guest, Brian LoPinto, as well as first timers to the show, Dan Malley and Aaron Nelsen. They give us their first-hand impressions and experiences. Find out what it was like to be at the game, the types of food served, and even how much these three fans paid for this unique experience which all of them said was well worth it. Andrea Williams admits that prior to getting a job in marketing and development at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri she knew nothing regarding Effa Manley, the subject of her wonderful book, Baseball's Leading Lady: Effa Manley and the Rise and Fall of the Negro Leagues. However, once she heard about this wonderful woman who is the only woman inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, she knew she needed to learn more and her many hours of research and writing are her gift to us. Effa ran the Newark Eagles with her husband, Abe Manley, from 1935 to 1948. Andrea provides us with a look at the life of someone who was not about to let skin color or gender stop her from doing what she wanted to do and helping those she needed to help. Effa Manley's story inspired Andrea, and the stories in this book will hopefully inspire you as much they did us.Joey Machado is excellent at marketing and that excellence is being felt throughout the barbecue community. His passion for the products he represents has always shone through and that continues as he works with Blues Hog BBQ and Gateway Drum Smokers. He is extremely entertaining and frankly did not even need us to ask him more than one question as he has a lot to say, and we are the beneficiaries as we get to learn from someone who has been a blessing for the barbecue industry. Enjoy part one and look forward to part two.We conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show - (516) 855-8214Facebook - baseball and bbqEmail - [email protected] - @baseballandbbqInstagram - baseballandbarbecueYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https://baseballandbbq.weebly.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. It's episode 100! Time to celebrate as we speak with two great guests and are joined by a special guest co-host.Adrian Miller is a James Beard Foundation book award-winning author, an American culinary historian, lawyer, public policy advisor, and certified barbecue judge. He was also a consultant on the Netflix show, Chef's Table BBQ. His latest book is Black Smoke: African Americans and the United States of Barbecue. The book is a true masterpiece, filled with fascinating history and tasty recipes. We were fortunate to be joined by special guest host, Doug Scheiding who brings his own special perspective to the show. Barbecue has an incredible history and our conversation with Adrian will help bring that history to life as well as make you want to purchase this book. Mackey Sasser is a former Major League Baseball catcher who played from 1987 through 1995 for the San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets, and Seattle Mariners. On July 8th, 1990 while playing for the Mets he was severely injured in a play at home plate in a game against the Atlanta Braves. He managed to eventually come back from the excruciating injury, but had an issue throwing the ball back to the pitcher which is called, the "Yips." However, he never let that define him, and he went on to enjoy a wonderful career as a coach and mentor. Mackey has no issues discussing any part of his career and for that we were very fortunate. We also managed to sprinkle in some of our reflections and thanks for all the wonderful guests and listeners who have encouraged us and helped us to reach our 100th episode. Anyone who has ever listened to and/or appeared on this show knows how much they are appreciated. We conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. Ep 73Marjorie Adams In Memoriam Episode

In memory of a very special person who will be sorely missed. Not long ago we had the privilege of speaking with Marjorie Adams who we referred to as baseball royalty. She found this to be funny, but we really did feel honored to speak with the great-granddaughter of a man who made major contributions to the game of baseball and whom Marjorie was determined to have elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame where he rightfully deserved to be.On July 7, 2021, Marjorie Adams passed away. We wanted to honor her by replaying our conversation while asking Jeff "Pinetar" Kornhaas to share some of his special thoughts and memories on their wonderful relationship and the many ways she touched the lives of so many people. The following is from the show notes of episode 87. When we released the episode we thought we would have the chance to speak with Marjorie many more times as well as to meet her in person. Unfortunately, neither of those would come to be and we are grateful for the small amount of time we got to talk. Marjorie Adams is the great-granddaughter of Daniel Lucius "Doc" Adams who wrote the 1857 "Laws of Base Ball" as well as creating the shortstop position and is considered to be one of baseball's founders. The original "Laws of Base Ball" were sold at an auction in 2016 for $3.26 million. Despite all of this, he is still not a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, but if our guest has anything to do with it, that blatant over site will soon be corrected. This interview would not be possible without the introduction provided by our episode 86 guest, Jeff Kornhaas who we all know as Pinetar. Pinetar sits in with us and adds his wonderful contributions to a conversation we hoped would never end. Please enjoy our talk with someone we consider to be as close to baseball royalty as one can get.Marjorie would have liked for you to go to the website, https://docadamsbaseball.org/ and learn more about her great-grandfather, Daniel Lucius "Doc" Adams and provide your support for her efforts to have him enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Please do what you can to make that a part of her legacy. Ep 99Baseball and BBQ Episode #99: Steven Raichlen (BBQ HOF) and Bill Nowlin, author of "Working a Perfect Game"

Episode 99 features a Barbecue Hall of Fame member and a discussion on essential baseball people who are on the field as the game is played, but are happy to go unnoticed.Steven Raichlen is a prolific James Beard award-winning author. The majority of his cookbooks are barbecue related, but he also writes books on other cuisines, as well as numerous magazine and newspaper articles as well as a couple of novels. He thinks of himself as an educator and whether it is through his books, numerous television series, or the in-person courses he runs, he does an excellent job teaching. He joined us to discuss his latest cookbook, How to Grill Vegetables: The New Bible for Barbecuing Vegetables Over Live Fire. With over 30 cookbooks to his name, you might think he has run out of ideas, but you would be wrong. The recipe/book ideas keep coming and we, the food loving public, are the ultimate winners as we continue learning from all he does. Enjoy the talk and then buy this book and every other one he has written and bring your food up to the next level or even the level after that.Bill Nowlin is the author or editor of nearly 100 books, many of them Boston Red Sox-related. We had him on to discuss his baseball book, Working a “Perfect Game”: Conversations With Umpires which takes us into the world of the umpires who are often overlooked, but whose contributions are extremely necessary and for which they prefer to stay as anonymous as possible. The book provides an understanding of the extremely difficult journey they take to try and reach the Major Leagues. Fans of the game will thoroughly enjoy this conversation and the book.We conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show - (516) 855-8214Facebook - baseball and bbqEmail - [email protected] - @baseballandbbqInstagram - baseballandbarbecueYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https//baseballandbbq.weebly.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 91Baseball and BBQ Episode #91: Triple Play: Grubbs part 2, Brett Mandel of Baseballbbq.com and Official Scorer, Stew Thornley

Take three awesome guests, mix in two great guest hosts, and the result is an incredible episode, 91James Grubbs had so many wonderful things to say that we split the conversation into two parts so as not to miss a single word. Ep 88Baseball and BBQ Episode #88: Steve Ray, part 2 and Foul Ball Safety Now founder, Jordan Skopp

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll learn, you'll love episode 88.Steve Ray has a lot to say, and you will want to hear it all. We conclude our conversation which began on episode 87 with some wonderful barbecue talk. He is the pitmaster on the Owls Nest BBQ team, owner of the Owls Nest Barbecue Supply Shop in Ooltewah, Tennessee, and he was an embedded correspondent on The BBQ Central Show. He even filled in twice as host for the BBQ Central Show. What is absolutely incredible is that Steve first became interested in barbecue when he saw the television show, BBQ Pitmasters in his 50's, and it sparked a desire which has now become an obsession. We are the fortunate ones he followed this newfound passion as we get to converse with a humble, yet extremely knowledgeable cook. Jordan Skopp is on a mission to protect you. If you are a spectator at a baseball game, whether it's a minor league or a major league game, he feels you have the right to be safe, and he is determined to make that happen. He is the founder of Foul Ball Safety Now which is his way of trying to bring attention to the safety issues which exist in baseball stadiums. Jordan is not looking to gain fame and notoriety from this and would gladly fade back into anonymity if it meant that all baseball stadiums installed the appropriate safety netting to guarantee their fans safety. He has even tried to put his money where his mouth is by offering both the New York Mets and New York Yankees money from his own pocket to pay for the protective netting. We also read a listener's wonderful letter. We conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Ace & Bobo" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show - (516) 855-8214Email - [email protected] - @baseballandbbqFacebook - baseball and bbqInstagram - baseballandbarbecueYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https//baseballandbbq.weebly.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 87Baseball and BBQ Episode #87: Marjorie Adams, Baseball Royalty, Steve Ray from Owls Nest BBQ and Gary Looney from Angels Spring Training Camp

Triple plays are a rarity, but we give you one with episode 87.Marjorie Adams is the great-granddaughter of Daniel Lucius "Doc" Adams who wrote the 1857 "Laws of Base Ball" as well as creating the shortstop position and is considered to be one of baseball's founders. Please enjoy our talk with someone we consider to be as close to baseball royalty as one can get.Steve Ray is known to the barbecue world for so many reasons. Gary Looney makes his long awaited return. You may recall that in episode 56 we welcomed Gary as Jeff had met him last year on his visit to spring training in Arizona just prior to the pandemic shutting everything down. We asked Gary to come back on to discuss what spring training during the pandemic is like and he did not disappoint. Gary gave us some great insight and answered our questions on how this year's training camp is unlike any others. We once again conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show - (516) 855-8214Email - [email protected] - Baseball and BBQTwitter - @baseballandbbqInstagram - baseballandbarbecueYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https//baseballandbbq.weebly.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 86Baseball and BBQ Episode #86: Pitmaster Mikey Kay and Jeff "Pinetar" Kornhaas

Episode 86 is jam-packed with barbecue and baseball history.Mikey Kay loves barbecue. It is his passion and he does it very well. As a talented pitmaster he is extremely willing to impart his knowledge and he is not afraid to speak his mind. Because of that, we the listeners are very fortunate. Mikey does not claim to know all, but he does know a lot, and he shares that with us as well as on his podcast, Man, Meat, BBQ. We talked about how his love of barbecue started as well as his likes and dislikes. He really knows his stuff, and you will appreciate his candor. Go to http://www.manmeatbbq.com/ for more information. Jeff Kornhaas is known to everyone as Pinetar. As the second guest in our baseball history/origins series, he tells us how he plays by the rules. Of course, the rules he plays by are from 1865. He is extremely personable and shares his wealth of knowledge on how the game used to be played. It is fascinating to hear what was different and what has stayed the same as the game has developed into the version we know today. It is a fascinating look into the game and Pinetar has some wonderful stories to share. What better way to learn about how baseball was played when it was in its infancy then from someone who devotes himself to playing the game the old-fashioned way and maybe some may even say, the better way. We once again conclude the show with the beautiful song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for wonderful cutting boards and http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans and the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag.We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe.If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show - (516) 855-8214Email - [email protected] - @baseballandbbqFacebook - baseball and bbqInstagram - baseballandbarbecueYouTube - baseball and bbqWebsite - https://baseballandbbq.weebly.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
