Episode 302: Alright Scary – “Silence of the Lambs”

E

Pass the chianti, because this week we’re raising a toast to Queen Anthony and Jodie the Great in the essentially perfect “Silence of the Lambs.” We’re celebrating the generous dose of camp sprinkled throughout the multiple Oscar winner, from the dandy Hannibal Lecter reading Clarice to filth to Diane Baker as Senator Ruth Martin wearing that impeccable suit. Plus: Brooke Smith singing Tom Petty in the car, the importance of the pets, best supporting Kasi Lemmons, Scott Glenn’s BDE, and the troublesome impact of Buffalo Bill. Episode 301: Dragula Season 4 – Episode 1: Horror Icons Reimagined

E

Season 4 of The Boulet Brothers’ spooky, filthy drag competition kicks things off with a warehouse of horrors, a workroom of shade-slinging and a floor show full of legends. Familiar faces Jade Jolie and Saint keep it congenial, but La Zavaleta and Merrie Cherry make sure Brooklyn is well represented in the boudoir, Sigourney and Betty plan to take on this competition one tit at a time, and Koco is hopefully our narrator this season. Astrud ends up as queen alien of the week, but Hoso has an eye on the prize (and a button sewn into that eye), and Formelda Hyde wears club kid shoes, so you know what that means. Episode 300: Alright Scary – “Jennifer’s Body” (2009)

E

“Jennifer’s Body” is so much more than a 2009 version of “Species,” but it does feature one hell of a femme fatale in the form of Megan Fox. Amanda Seyfried meanwhile is a final girl with depth whose vengeful nerd rage rivals Carrie White in the final act. Plus we got a handful of great moms, a perfectly awful rock ballad, and not enough male butts. Plus: a jawbreaking omission, an Elizabeth Holmes impression, an appreciation of Diablo Cody’s journey to an EGOT and plenty of Marying out on all of the metaphors and allegories of this gory foray into female friendship. Episode 299: Alright Scary – “Aliens”

E

James Cameron’s bombastic follow up to “Alien,” equal parts action and horror movie, may make us yearn for the Nostromo a bit, but more importantly it features our favorite cat owning, flamethrower wielding space mom, Ellen Ripley. The Extended Special Edition of “Aliens” gives us even more time in Act One with Ripley and Jones before pairing her up with eye candy like Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn and Jeannette Goldstein, to say nothing of one particularly beguiling robot. We’ve got mixed feelings on Newt, lots of questions about aliens taking elevators, thoughts on the subsequent sequels and prequels in the series, and unending praise for Sigourney “Susie” Weaver in an Oscar nominated performance. Episode 298: Alright Scary – “Misery”

E

Kathy Bates earned a much deserved Oscar for playing delusional and occasionally demented devotee Annie Wilkes to poor James Caan’s critically injured Paul Sheldon in “Misery,” and we spend most of this week’s episode praising her performance. We also Mary out on the overarching metaphor of addiction, the cautionary tale of Annie the Toxic Fan, Frances Sternhagen’s welcomed presence and fashioned sense as Deputy Virginia, what the movie would be like if Paul were a woman and played by Viola Davis, and some hot takes on Kathy Bates’s filmography. Plus: Warren Beatty’s contribution, Stephen King’s books, the importance of Judy Parfitt in “Delores Claiborne,” and of course that sweet little goose, Misery the pig. Episode 297: *Patreon Preview* Drag Race UK Season 3 Ep 1 – The Return of Royalty

E

Why aye pet, it’s already another season of UK huns! In this week’s special Patreon preview episode we give our first impressions and second guesses of the Season 3 queens, our takes on the first two runways of the season, and some strong feelings on those lip syncs. We have lots to say about the teen queens in the room, Anubis and Krystal, we’ll never say Kitty Scott-Claus correctly, Choriza may be an early favorite of ours, we appreciate the Home Alone fantasy that Ronnie Green and Scarlett are giving us out of drag, and we might start an advice column called Listen Linda. Episode 296: Dragula Season 4 – Meet the Monsters

E

Spooky season kicks off early this year with the announcement of a new season of Dragula! While the competition doesn’t officially start for another month, this week we’re discussing our first impression of this new crop of monsters, including an old familiar face from Drag Race here to potentially do backrolls over the competition. We also establish nicknames pretty early on for all of them, go on a brief tangent about Ripley and Jones in “Alien” and reminisce about some of the highlights of Seasons 2 and 3. We can’t help but wonder who will have spiders all over their tits this season…. Episode 295: Drag Race UK Season 3 – Meet the Queens

E

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the Gregg’s, the UK is giving us another season of drag royalty competing for potential superstardom once the show airs. This week we’re breaking down our first impressions of all 12 queens (well, 11 plus familiar face Ronnie Green), based largely on their Meet the Queens videos and very subjective evaluations. As per usual, we plan to be wrong (sometimes we even confuse past Dragula contestants for cancelled YouTube makeup artists) and look forward to falling in love with each of them in a couple weeks’ time. Episode 294: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 12 – This is Our Country

E

The final four are putting the C.U.N.T in “country” this week for a classic All Stars finale. There’s not much left to discuss or do except to learn more choreography from Jamal Sims, have a 30 minute consultation on stage with Ru in Michelle, and write and record verses for a new Ru song. (Can you guess what it’s called?) While it was anyone’s race by the end, Kylie Sonique Love Hewitt Michelle Gellar Lange brought the most twang to her track, a subversive look on the runway and an ascended mastery of self in (Gu)Ru’s eyes, nabbing both an herstorical win for the series and all that “money honey.” Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmary Email: [email protected] Twitter: @alrightmary Johnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram) Colin: @colindrucker (Twitter) Web: www.tasteofreality.com/alright-mary/ www.alrightmary.com BetterHelp Promo: betterhelp.com/AlrightMary (discount code: AlrightMary)

Episode 293: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 11 – The Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent Monologues

E

While it takes a real cunning linguist to say the name of this week’s episode, the Top 5: Part 2 queens deserve snaps all around for this storytelling challenge. Ginger, now doing almost too well in the competition, is given the “too polished” note while Eureka’s triumph over trichinosis finally nabs her a win (and with that lip sync win, a total of $25k just under the wire). Ra’Jah very briefly forgets her place (and later half her look, in a genius runway), Kylie rises up by sitting and Trinity sees the writing on the wall before she even gets on stage. We discuss who really won that lip sync, whether or not we want more cutthroat voting, why Drag Race is not Survivor, body types in the gay community, The Masked Singer, and being in the closet about having a Drag Race podcast. (Also, somewhere in the second half of the episode we need a moment to just vent about dumb people, but eventually we get back on track.) Episode 292: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 10 – Rudemption Lip-Sync Smackdown

E

Crunch crunch, munch munch, Silky Nutmeg Ganache is here to eat the competition for lunch. The infamous game within a game is finally here–a weekly lip sync showdown between eliminated queens that very quickly becomes Silky’s unstoppable rise to potentially compete again with the Top 4. (Who, by the way, in a meta twist, spend the entire episode watching Drag Race with us. Ra’Jah provides great commentary throughout.) Along the way Serena squats, Jiggly pops and Yara strums. Scarlet looks the part, Jan breaks the stage and Pandora gives it a fair shake during Silky’s clearest victory lap. Will Eureka’s mom’s Life Alert be the lucky charm she needs to bounce back into the workroom, or was Silky finally caught with her pants around her ankles in that last lip sync? We have no idea, Mary. Episode 291: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 9 – Drag Tots

E

Ooh baby, this week’s Drag Tots extended promo/design challenge really ended with a boom clap of a lip sync, and reigning assassin Kameron Michaels had something to say about it. We kick things off this week diving into the end of the episode, when both queens did the best they could with what they were given, which was also a running theme for this challenge. The PTSD flashback to junior high of a mini-challenge mostly knocks Moody K Bonet off her axis for a bit, but bossy, messy, gassy, shady Eureka laughs it off and gives us big BSA energy all the way into Untucked. We discuss our own cartoon characters, the meaning of Mexicatessen, school play trees, Untucked music, expectations for the forever teased game within a game and some All Stars 6 superlatives of our own. Episode 290: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 8 – Snatch Game of Love

E

Six celebrity Snatchelorettes try their luck at love and improv in this week’s perennial gauntlet of a challenge, Snatch Game (of Love). After Phyllis Diller and Dolly Parton play verbal volleyball over Whitney Houston’s head, Eureka serves extra helpings of a Divine that’s just fine, Ra’Jah lights up as LaToya and Pandora’s Kim Cattrall leaves us Samantha Jones’ing for more. While there was a lot of pop art on the runway, most of our fashion talk this week is about Cheyenne Jackson from the bare ankles down. We also have some strong feelings about Broadway singers doing mainstream albums, some brief climate control confusion, probably unpopular opinions on the lip sync song and a Last Chance Lip Sync you’re just gonna hate. Episode 289: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 7 – Show Up Queen

E

This week’s girl group challenge takes on an activism twist with inspirational lyrics about self-love and positivity. (Okay, this may not be that much of a twist for a Drag Race song.) Jan takes the self-love note and runs with it, all the way to the bottom, joined by Pandora and her two left feet. The real twist comes when Mrs. Mateo shows up with not one but two lipsticks in her titty, for a melodramatic conclusion to Jan’s pitchy peaks and valleys run this season. Well, until the game within the game, but we already have our predictions for who’s gonna win that. RuPaul loves a bombshell, Zaldy brings some much-welcomed fashion expertise to the judges panel, Freddy gets fingered and Trinity bugs out on the runway–and pulls into the lead with a much-deserved second win. Episode 288: Drag Race España Ep 7+8 – Reunion/Grand Finale

E

It’s already time to say “adios” to a fabulous season of Drag Race, but not before putting the Top 3 through the usual finale paces. We have less to say about the reunion than we do about the final challenge this week, and even then it’s mostly thirsting over Carmelo Segura. Killer Queen kills the challenge, Hugaceo and Arantxa steal the runway and Carmen wins the competition before the lip sync is even over with a brilliant wig reveal that left us dripping. We also discuss the merits of Ricki and the Flash as a future Matreon, make a surprising discovery about A League of Their Own, and answer the question on everybody’s lips: is Charlotte Rae still alive? Episode 287: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 6 – Rumerican Horror Story: Coven Girls

E

This week’s supersized ooky-spooky acting challenge casts the queens as witchy women from the world of Ryan Murphy–including some unfortunate typecasting of Jan as Leah Michelle, a perfect Pandora Crawford, and a lovely Lange from Kylie Sonique. (But how does it compare to Michelle’s?) Angela Bassett turns up to share some radiant wisdom over Skype, Ra’Jah gets misdirected to drop the voice, and A’keria is cursed with three times in the bottom. Kylie’s boobs win the lip sync, but Jan’s overalls adjustment wins the episode. Episode 286: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 5 – Pink Table Talk

E

The queens become ladies who chat this week on Pink Table Talk. First things first, can we get an extended cut of Trinity, Eureka and A’keria’s roundtable kiki? While Ginger won fair and square this week, we could watch that team queen out all day. Meanwhile the Jantasy has seemingly ended with a full on Dogvillination of Ms. Sport, who of course we try to defend this week. And ditto Scarlet, who was hardly as uncomfortable to watch as one of her fellow tablemates. Mayhem zips by to challenge Ginger from Finance to a $30,000 lip sync of “Phone.” Miss Minj earns every penny (c’mon, Aunt Peg!) but we can’t help but wonder what Trinity K Bonet might have done. Episode 285: Drag Race España Ep 6 – Final Four

E

Our final four Spanish reginas are giving birth to a quartet of rugby player-sized baby queens for this week’s makeover challenge. Pupi’s poison all season has been her rough aesthetic and it unfortunately transfers to her drag daughter, while Carmen’s season-long perfection results in a true “She’s All That” moment for her partner. Sagittaria spirals out of orbit as a non-sewer with two looks to make and Killer Queen is the true winner of the week for getting to personally tuck Fernando. We queen out on Supremme’s goosey charms, the chaotic joy of the final lip sync, Give Me More queens, Envy Peru, and our plans for Season 2 of Drag Race Holland. Episode 284: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 4 – Halftime Headliners

E

Pardon the crunchy audio, we caught up on Skype while Johnny’s on vacation in Mexico this week! Meanwhile our ten remaining superb owls give us a hoot of a halftime show, ranging from a wide-eyed Fergie to a shaky Shakira. While no one was in the red zone, Jan’s goo-goo Gaga and Trinity’s A+ Beyonce were the ones we’d most like to see an instant replay on. We huddle up on some strong feelings about Madonna, sack the notion that the Curse is broken and punt some ideas of who fumbled and who was just given a bad pass. A’keria C. Davenport being in the Bottom 2 was the most offensive line of the episode, but Jessica Wild’s victory dance in the end zone was a true touchdown. Episode 283: Drag Race España Ep 5 – Drags de la Comedia

E

We’ve seen some one-sided lip syncs before—even earlier this season when Inti quit—but none have been quite as fascinating and even frustrating as Dovima’s decision to just stand there while Sagittaria danced around her and Carmen cried in the safe zone. There are lots of tears this week, including from the judges, as well as Killer’s instinct for kindness, a puppet challenge that was no Lamb Chops, a roast that may have been a little undercooked and a clear path to victory for Farala. Episode 282: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 3 – Side Hustles

E

This week’s episode gave us two long overdue redemptions: Trinity K Bonet won a main challenge and lip sync assassin Laganja Estranja won All Stars 6. The marketing maxi challenge and re-do’s on the runway are practically afterthoughts to one of the most exciting lip syncs of the series, which we discuss beat by beat, as well as a deeper appreciation of Silky’s rocky road after Season 11. We also come to consensus on who Scarlett reminds us of, present a similar question about Yara, try to solve the mystery of Pandora’s role this season, and continue to query about A’keria. Episode 281: Drag Race España Ep 5 – The Art of Drag

E

This week’s acting challenge features the filthiest high school in Spain, with an undead Carmen stealing the show with those bananas, a wet and wild Principal Pupi, Sagitarria with a rising moon in Uranus and Hugaceo at her horniest. The runway is a literal art museum that had us saying, “Hello, Dali!” with guest judge Alaska on the judges panel calling most of the shots and certainly helping Pupi finally secure her first and much-needed win. Episode 280: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 2 – The Blue Ball

E

If there’s one thing Drag Race isn’t giving us this year, it’s blue balls. We not only got an All Star talent show this week that sent Serena out of the competition and into the game within a game, but we had 36 looks on the runway for the Blue Ball. Yara’s bounce to the top becomes a sag to the bottom when her breastplate does her no favors this week and her tarp dress looks like a tarp dress. Jiggly at least does better than her iconic baked potato couture of Season 4, but that’s unfortunately not saying much and her bedazzled blanket sends her to the bottom two. But is there another queen being unfairly spared? Did Trinity’s hilariously literal crossing guard “STOP” her from landing in the top spot? The true highlight of the episode is an Untucked exclusive meltdown in a parking lot, featuring fuzzy slippers, a looming sunset and a poor PA just trying to keep them on schedule. We also have some STRONG disagreements on a certain Janet Jackson song, but not the one featured in this week’s lip sync, and we make some early, early predictions for Top 3 based on two episodes and no spoilers. Episode 279: RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6: Episode 1 – All Star Variety Extravaganza

E

Get ready for another season of redemption, reinvention and in the case of this week’s talent show, repetition, as we kick off another season of All Stars! 13 familiar faces (well, more or less, thanks to fillers and Botox) return to the workroom to not only get their hands on a crown and scepter, that ubiquitous $100,000 and maybe some cash tips for lip syncing along the way, but introduce or re-introduce themselves to an ever-growing Drag Race audience. (Well, so long as they’ve got Paramount+.) That means a lot of performances of new, original songs in the talent show–but at least Scarlett mixed things up with bubbles, Trinity tried to break the bad luck streak of comediennes past and Ra’Jah made a dress, and everyone sweat, in just 60 seconds. Yara may not have been showing off her years of hard work and professional training (hi Jan!), but she jiggled her way to the top as breast in show and duked it out against Coco Montrese to the impossibly heterosexual “Uptown Funk.” As she’s wont to do, Serena cha-cha’d her way out of the competition, but the game within the game has just begun…   Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmary Email: [email protected] Twitter: @alrightmary Johnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram) Colin: @colindrucker (Twitter) Web: www.tasteofreality.com/alright-mary/ www.alrightmary.com   BetterHelp Promo: betterhelp.com/AlrightMary (discount code: AlrightMary)

Episode 278: Drag Race España Ep 4 – Snatch Game

E

Whether it’s Down Under, over the border or across the Atlantic, Snatch Game is always one of the most highly-anticipated challenges of a season. Spain not only paired theirs with a reading mini-challenge but a full on ball on the runway, resulting in 21 looks and well over half of the episode dedicated to the main stage. While fave of the podcast and gold star pizza queen Arantxa does end up sashaying away, Killer Queen emerges as more than just the spitting image of Tyne Daly, our love for Pupi hasn’t pooped out and Sagittaria is finally in our orbits. Episode 277: Drag Race España Ep 3 – Mocatriz

E

It’s time for the queens to prove they’re a triple threat–a quadruple threat if you count a football mini-challenge that ends up being the least chaotic part of this episode. In teams of two, they’re selling women’s lifestyle magazines, running for dear life on a treadmill while lip-syncing to “Cha Cha Bitch,” and acting out bizarre mprov sketches that involve slapstick lesbianism and familial phone sex. A hometown roots runway is the final straw for a misunderstood Inti, Supremme divinely intervenes, Dovina and friends have a singalong, Arantxa wears a ham backpack and we tangent into some very heated discussions about pizza. Episode 276: Drag Race España Ep 2 – Divas

E

While this episode was primarily a classic girl group challenge, the singing and dancing portion of the episode was largely overshadowed by a Veneno-inspired runway and queer royalty on the judges panel. Carmen snaked her way to the top of the pack while Vulcano fell from those platforms to the bottom against Arantxa in a quintessential pizza queen look. Episode 275: Drag Race España Ep 1: ¡Bienvenidas a España!

E

The Drag Race empire expands to Spain! It’s your classic first episode of the first season format–photo shoot and a sewing challenge–but with a decidedly goosey Spanish twist. The cast is full of charisma, the drag is exciting, some of the contestants are just as exciting out of drag (Vulcano…) and Supremme and friends on the judges panel are a deluxe delight. Not to mention the workroom is the size of an IKEA showroom. The episode wraps with an exhaustive lip sync that sends a potential commentator home, but gives us a refreshingly melodramatic exit. Episode 274: Drag Race All Stars 6 – Meet the Queens

E

C’mon, All Stars 6, let’s get Paramount+ accounts! The game of second chances is back with another season of seasoned queens, from Pandora and Yara of yesteryear to Jan and half of Season 11. To say nothing of a longtime favorite on this podcast, Trinity K Bonet, the surprise of Serena, a welcomed third go of it for Ginger, and the big Barkin energy of Kylie Sonique Love (Hewitt Michelle Gellar). We make super early predictions, hypothesize on casting choices, call out a missing queen, and close things out with some birthday Björk. Episode 273: Dida Ritz Shuts it Down at the Scorpio Charlotte, A Deep Dive

E

We have been referencing this on the podcast for years and finally needed to give it its own episode. There is a video from 2012 of Dida Ritz performing at The Scorpio in Charlotte that we can’t stop queening out about. We spent 45 minutes breaking down (shutting it down, if you will) this epic 7 and a half minute performance. The truth is, we could have gone on longer. This week the remaining eight are split off to write and record lyrics and come up with “choree” for the latest Leland production of “Queens Down Under.” While Scarlet is the starlet of the week, Elektra blows a fuse out-dancing the rest of her group and Coco takes a jumbo risk by singing, landing them both in the bottom. But the more important matter at hand is—who wrote the note? Episode 269: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 – The Finale, Pippin

E

Season 13’s long journey comes to a conclusion with one of the most surreal episodes of Drag Race. We got a parking lot full of people performing canned reactions while Jaida weaves through the cars peddling Bubly seltzer, RuPaul step-touching for her life, the Top 4 lipsyncing in and out of drag to Bette Midler’s “Friends,” Rosé’s Act One Ankle, Gottmik’s Mockingjay moments, Kandy’s flawed flag reveal and Symone helicoptering and hand acting her way to the crown. Episode 268: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 – The Reunion

E

The Zoom reunion format is back for Season 13–except this time Ru isn’t even talking live to the queens in a facekini. We do get a lot of time with the cast, including music videos from each of the runners-up, 69 Questions and a “bubbly” ad with the Top 4, and a lip sync for a good cause with this season’s assassins. And while we miss the live format, we don’t miss the cringe of it all and appreciate the opportunity for each queen to shine one more time before another season rolls into town. Episode 267: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 – The Lucky Top 4

E

While the Top 4 are Y-O-U-R-E Lucky this week, Colin was not when it comes to travel plans this weekend so apologies for the delayed episode and potato quality audio. Nevertheless, we queened out on report cards, the significance of Gottmik and her impact on Ru, Symone and Reggie, and the best Top 4 numbers and where Lucky falls in the ranking. Plus, Kandy’s ghost, Rosé’s interview, talking through tears and our predictions for the finale. Episode 266: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 – The Top 5

E

The final five are green screen queens for this week’s schlocky sci-fi acting challenge. They typecast themselves in semi-familiar roles, to the benefit of Gottmik, Rosé and Symone, any of whom could have won. (But did the right queen win?) Kandy is sticky in the challenge (and sour on the runway) and Olivia’s light starts to flicker. We enjoy a visit from the ever versatile Scarlett Johansson, discuss formative gay representation from our youths, bask in the beauty of Cynthia Erivo, highlight some gold standard talking through tears and break down the tricky nuances of “being yourself” in this competition. Episode 265: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 – Nice Girls Roast

E

It’s often said that no one is safe at a roast, chickens—but that’s especially true this week whenever Utica is on stage. There are mostly groans for Symone, Olivia lacks, Gottmik gets it, Rosé continues to rise and Kandy can and does, finally securing a win this season. We look back on roasts past, discuss the online backlash to Utica, identify at least 10 branding and retail opportunities for Olivia, and welcome two new iconic fingers of Drag Race to the canon. Episode 264: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 E11 – Pop Goes the Queen

E

Come on Season 13, let’s get carbonated! This week the Top 7 are selling branded soft drinks. Symone bubbles to the top once again, but have we tasted this flavor before? Rosé is refreshingly imperfect, Kandy could add more sugar, Utica’s brand starts to fizzle, Gottmik gives a mixed mixer, Olivia is perhaps too effervescent, and Tina unfortunately just falls flat. Episode 263: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 E10 – Freaky Friday Queens

E

Makeover challenges usually mean suddenly putting a lot of new people in the workroom and trying to quickly introduce, explore and resolve their stories by the time they hit the runway. By keeping it quarantined this season, we instead got to know the Top 8 a lot better by seeing them become someone else. We also had visions of producer prompts for Char Margolis, high praise for Symotica, some raised eyebrows about one of the pairs’ makeup choices, and opinions on whether Denali deserved to skate away this episode. Episode 262: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 – Snatch Game

E

Snatch Game is a guaranteed mixed bag each season. While the Season 13 girls avoided some of the bigger cardinal sins (doing Beyoncé or Lady Gaga), it was clear Symone and Gottmik had truly done their homework. (Why Symone ended up just safe this week is the bigger sin.) We also discuss the key to a good Rue, Tina sweating her Richard Simmons, how to make Bob Ross a filthy pig and our top picks for Snatch Game choices we’ve yet to see. Episode 261: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 – Corona Special

E

The competition pauses this week to take a look behind the scenes of prepping for and then filming a season of Drag Race during a pandemic. We don’t have as much to say this week about the episode itself as we do about our own feelings around COVID era taboos, the trouble with social media, navigating a concurrent mental health crisis, and of course, the joys of creating imaginary narratives about people a la Trish in Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar. Episode 260: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 E8- Social Media The Rusical

E

Rusicals have become a seasonal standby for topical humor, from the Kardashians to the Trump administration. This season the queens take on the behemoth of social media. While Rosé blooms this week, the judges were not living for Tina’s death scene and did not leave many likes for Symone or Kandy. Anne Hathaway provides some virtual encouragement from the wings, Denali has a Judy Blume kind of week, two taxis pull up on the runway and Gottmik gets us in the end. Episode 259: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 E7 – Bossy Rossy RuBoot

E

The true winner of this week’s Bossy Rossy improv challenge is really Ross Mathews, but we have much to say on Olivia’s masterful miming and Symone’s divine Deborah. However, we have differing opinions on who should have won not only the challenge but the lip sync between LaLa with 2 L’s and Elliott with 2 T’s. We also discuss Tina’s role this season, familiar wigs, origin stories, Party of Five, 90’s talk show hosts and the bossiest of bosses, Judith Light. Episode 258: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 E6 – Disco-mentary

E

This week, the queens are channeling the late 70’s with a disco dance-umentary and then bringing the early 90’s to the runway with often literal little black dresses. Evan Ross Katz joins us this week to help chart what feels like an oddly produced episode this season. Olivia Lux shined for sure, but did she truly outshine the rest of the cast? Did anyone even do that poorly? And since when were we judging queens on performance looks? Things reach a seemingly inevitable conclusion in the Lip Sync For Your Life, pitting Kandy and Tamisha against one another hot on the heels of last week’s Untucked feud. Sadly the lady says go home to the mother of the Iman dynasty, and Kandy finally shows the judges the vulnerability they’re looking for with a BSA-worthy breakdown. Episode 257: RuPaul’s Drag Race S13 E5 – The Bag Ball

E

It’s RuPaul’s Bag Race this week with the first ball of the season, dedicated to satchels, sacks, and fanny packs. No surprise, even this long into the series, but some of these girls don’t sew and it shows. Utica’s patient guidance inspires us to cast her and eventually the entire cast as staff and students of a K-8 primary school. We also discuss the peculiar energy of Ru’s workroom “walk ups”, what we would create for this challenge, and of course break down the breakdown of peace in Untucked between Mrs. Iman and Kandy.
