Whereas if we needto make decisions for a group or a community, we must embrace collective intelligence.For example, when the NPC is going through thelegislation process, the representatives must have detailed and lengthy discussions toguarantee that all aspects of the issues are considered. How do Chinese people show their politeness? We have a diversity of ways to do that. The most common way is that during a meal traditional Chinese people keep giving you food and encouraging you to eat more. Being in China for the first time, many foreigners have no idea that these people are just being polite, so, in order not to offend the host, most foreigners just eat however much is given to them and end up stuffed. Such a manner gained its popularity in the years when China suffered from famines. The guests knew that there was not enough food so they tried not to eat too much, while the hosts did not want their guests to starve. After all, it all stemmed from good intention.

I’d like to talk about a hilarious story about my little nephew who isonly around 7 years old, which happened about 1 year ago. Like mostkids, my nephew always wanted to have his own pet, like a dog or a cat. And likeany other parents, my cousin did not allow him to have one, because the kid istoo small to even look after himself, not to mention taking care of a pet. Thatmade my nephew crestfallen. But inthe following days I noticed some abnormality about him. He was sneaking andmysterious. Sometimes he smirked at me for no reason, which bewildered me. But Idid not really take it serious, coz kids do often. Then,one day, he sneaked up to me and said, “do you want to see my pet?”. That wasjaw-dropping, because I had never saw him with a pet or anything. So I saidyes. Then hedashed off to his bedroom and came out with a jar, saying “this is my pet”. I took alook, seeing nothing, so I asked, “where on earth is your pet.”“there”,he painted at the jar.I closedup, and saw a mosquito. That was his pet. He explainedthat he had kept the mosquito in the jar for 3 weeks, and he let it stunghimself everyday. It made me roll in the aisles. Later, Itold his folly to other adults in the family, and they all burst into laughter.

The mostpolluted place that I have ever been to is Linfen, a small town located in theNorth of China. About 10 years ago, I went to this place to attend college,which was the first time I visited this place. What’s even more frustrating wasthat it was once listed by the as the most polluted city in the world.As soonas I walked out of the train station, I was shocked by how bad the pollutionwas. The sky was hazy and the ground was covered with dirt, and people walkingin the street are all wearing masks. And a very interesting thing that I noticedwas that hardly anyone was wearing bright colours. They were all wearing darkcolours, like black, deep blue or grey. Later, Iwas told that the main cause of the pollution was the coal industry. Every day,thousands of trucks transport coal out of the city. In the process, some coalpieces would fall from the truck and are ground to powder. when vehicles passby, they make the power raise into the air, resulting in the increase of thePM2.5 index. It wasalso said that the coking industry was to blame for the situation. You know,some raw coals are not suitable for industrial use, so they needed to berefined by coking. But this procedure creates multitudes of sulphide and manyother poisonous gases whose names I can’t remember. I’veheard that the municipal government has been making great efforts to erase thepollution by shutting down the small coal mines and raising emission standardof the coking industry. So perhaps things have improved a little.But sincethe pollution has been in the making for years, I do not think there are anyquick and easy fixes to the problem.

why somecountries want to host international sports events such as the Olympic games? For thebenefits of the host country, it helps to boost the domestic economy, improveits global image, and encourage the citizens to participate in sportsactivities, which, in turn, will improve the general health of a country. And ona global scale, sports events are supposed to make the world united, and honourhumanity. But it seems like many countries failed to realise the downside ofhosting such events, of which the major one being that a huge amount capital willbe invested into the construction of the sports facilities. Against thebackdrop of the gloomy global economy, this can cause financial strains to thegovernment.

The question may sound absurd to many, given that human beings regard ourselves to be the greatest animal on this planet, but totally reasonable to me. Animals, over the years, have evolved to adapt to the environment,which gave them various physiological features. For example, bat developed a radar system to navigate its way in the dark night. Scientists studied this feature and, basing on this result, invented the global positioning system, creating numerous benefits for human beings, ranging from aviation to telecommunication. So I am sure that there are many more to make use of. On another level, we also can learn the secrets to happy lives from animals such as dogs who are wagging their tails all the time. Dogs always live at the present, and they never worry about the future, but human beings seem to have endless worries for tomorrow.
