Adrenal Fatigue and Detoxification 2.5, Part 2: Your Adrenal Fix Podcast 22
Is there a relationship between adrenal fatigue and detoxification? Here’s a better question: are the same stressors that are creating your adrenal fatigue making you toxic? In this edition of your adrenal fix, I interview Dr. Kelly Halderman, to get the answers to those question. Kelly and I discuss how stressors from the environment along with your genetic susceptibilities can create the perfect storm. The best way to explain this is to discuss the nutrient glutathione. Glutathione is the body’s major antioxidant. As you probably already know, your body makes glutathione in order to reduce inflammation. Another word for inflammation in your body is called free radicals, or reactive oxidative species. That is where the environment fits into the picture. Every day, your body is exposed to an infinite number of toxins, pathogen, and chemicals that will create free radicals in the body. But that is not the only reason why your body makes glutathione. Glutathione is also needed to remove toxins, protect against B12 oxidation, and supporting your immune function. Here’s the thing, you may have a genetic weakness in your ability to continually make glutathione. Do you try glutathione, and feel worse with it? Tried detoxification with different supplements, one after the next, only to have a bad reaction, and take several steps backward? In this edition of Your Adrenal Fix, learn about how detoxification, specifically phase 2.5 is probably not working properly. The amazing part about that is, it’s the same things that create your adrenal fatigue. Once you understand that, then you will be able to design a customized recovery program. When you listen you’ll discover… Why is not only about MTHFR What other genes SNP’s make you susceptible for being a bad detoxer What supplements you can take to help detoxification, How to go about designing your own personal recovery program. What We Are Going To Cover: What exactly is a Keto-genic Diet, What it means to be Keto-Adapted, and What it is Not…Most Doctors get this wrong, Forever impacting your ability to Recover from Adrenal Fatigue. Why unstable mitochondria dysfunction and blood sugar is often the root cause behind food sensitivities, autoimmunity and ultimately Adrenal Fatigue The common dietary “pitfall”s and roadblocks that you must identify in your attempt to become keto-adatped in order to solve your adrenal fatigue 6 Ketogenic Supplements that you should be using as part of your adrenal fatigue recovery strategies 5 Steps to ensure ketogenic adaptation What exactly is a Keto-genic Diet, What it means to be Keto-Adapted, What it is not… What most doctors think it is. Why this will impact your ability to Recover from Adrenal Fatigue. Why Most Doctors get this wrong, Impacting your ability to Recover from Adrenal Fatigue Ketosis is a healthy state VS Ketoacidosis can be lethal! Dietary Ketosis starts from >0.45 mmol/L blood ketones Vs Ketoacidosis is generally 16mmol-20mmol/L and above Dietary Ketosis Glucose levels ~ 4 mmol/L (72mg/dl) vs Ketoacidosis glucose levels are often agove 160mg/dl Dietary Ketosis Insulin levels above the reference ranges vs Ketoacidosis insulin levels are above the references ranges Keto-adapated (KAD) Maintenance levels generally between 0.8 and 5.0 mmol/L Physiology 101 Is the energy system simply a matter of Food in = food out? No matter how much food/calories we take in on a day to day basis (fluctuations) our cells still need to do what they need to do. Our Cells are adaptive in nature: need to adapt to a fasting state when we sleep and then varying degrees of activity during the day, food molecules are therefore stored in special reserves for future use. Each cell adapts to internal metabolic demands and has an ability to switch the type of substrate that is burnt as fuel This adaptation is crucial and is achieved through the several regulatory mechanisms involved in controlling energy and its utilization Energy use is tightly regulated so that demands of all cells can be met simultaneously. Measuring ketones Ketones are water soluble molecules from fatty acid oxidation. Fats are broken down in 3 main Ketones: β-HBA (measured in Blood) – specific levels at that time, measured with a glucose meter, test strips. Acetoacetate -AcAc (measured in Urine) ‘interim spillage, use the ketone test strips. Short-term measurement. Acetone (measured in breath) – overall level reflecting metabolic usage of ketones from Acetoacetate, use the ketonix breath analyzer Benefits of dietary ketosis Reduction in inflammatory response and risk of chronic degenerative disease: Improved mitochondrial efficiency An increase in ergogenic and decreased thermogenic Increased mitochondria concentration/density as a response to low carbohydrate levels Mitochondria run better on fats for longer low intensity energy requirements When combined with Intermittent Fasting (IF) shows an increase in autophagia and mitogenesis Improved Cardiovascular function: Improved energy performance: Epigenetic control: MicroBiome and Gut Function Reduction of Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth. & other bacterial (gut) infections Reduction in pain and bowel spasms. Clients that cannot commit Pregnant women Cancer patients who are at risk of developing cachexia and Liver cancer Clients with unusually high blood lipid profiles when on a reasonably healthy diet (still possible but requires more accurate monitoring) Vegetarians & vegans? People with chronically high life-load and/or with ‘exhausted’ A-HPA axis Stress Response: Body thinks it is an emergency therefore chooses to use a quick burning, readily accessible fuel! High and chronic levels of stress contributes to insulin resistance and elevated glucose levels This in turn reduces/inhibits fueling from fat stores. 5 Steps to ensure ketogenic adaptation: Step One | Evaluation Ensure that the patient is appropriate and suitable for ketogenic diet Educate Client to understand reasons why high fat diets attract so much negativity (peers, family, media opinions). Not suitable for an ‘On and Off approach Explain the purpose of a Ketogenic Diet – shifting fueling Prepare the patient for potential ‘Keto Flu’ Evaluating Labs & Genetic Markers Complete blood chemistry – Look for any underlying issues & address: Impaired liver function (AST, ALT, GGT, CRP, Steatosis, Gall Bladder) Thyroid problems (High TSH and Low T3) Kidney or blood cell issues Low Vitamin D Lipid metabolism (Full CV Profile, Hypercholesteremia) Absolute Contra | indications Carnitine deficiency (primary) Carnitine palmitoyltransferase (CPT) I or II deficiency and Carnitine translocase deficiency, CAT Fatty Acid Desaturase Deficiency FADS b-oxidation defects Medium-chain acyl dehydrogenase deficiency (MCAD) Long-chain acyl de

Your Adrenal Fix Podcast #7: “How To Solve Adrenal Fatigue and Brain Fog”
What We Are Going To Cover! Why adrenal fatigue is often the root cause behind brain fog, focus and concentration decline, forgetfulness, not being quick on the ball, and no longer being your sharp, quick thinking self. The 10 brain assessment sections and 10 brain functional assessment sections that MUST be identified and addressed that KEEP poking holes in your brain declining bucket. The 3 most important tests that detail the specific areas of your brain decline, the contributing adrenal fatigue breakdown, and your epigenetic, “inherited” DNA that must be addressed. The recovery protocol you’ve probably NEVER taken, that your Doctors probably haven’t recommended, that can change your “adrenal fatigue and brain fog” situation right now First off, when it comes to brain fog, let’s separate hard lesions from soft lesions. Hard Brain Lesion vs. Soft Brain Lesion Hard Lesions Positive imaging Obvious exam findings Medical neurologists Soft Lesions No positive imaging Subtle exam findings Functional problems Functional neurologist Symptoms of Functional “Soft” Brain Lesions/brain fog symptoms: Depression Anxiety Insomnia Fatigue Memory loss brain fog Chronic pain/headaches Attention deficit Cant focus Not enjoying life Not social Emotional Impulsive Lack of enjoyment/fulfillment Vertigo, blurred vision, spatial disorientation, balance problems Weakness, numbness, tingling Spontaneous movement/movement disorders Can’t follow directions Digestive problems High blood pressure OCD Mood swings Lack of motivation How Prevalent are Soft Brain Lesions Today? 1/8 of seniors develop Alzheimer’s 1/8 of children develop spectrum disorders Dementia: 24 million in the world to double by 2040 Use of antidepressants/anti-anxiety meds Number 1 cause of accidental death? – FALLS What does a healthy brain need to avoid brain fog? Proper glucose supply (energy) Proper oxygen supply Proper neurotransmitters Proper activation Inflammation free environment If you don’t have these basics, medications will not work long term. Adrenals impacts each and every one of the above Different areas of the brain are responsible for different functions Frontal Lobes: Largest lobe so it needs lots of energy Defines our personality Executive decisions Social behavior Impulse control Allows for focus Governs our planning and motivation Voluntary muscle movement (gross and fine motor) Depression=frontal lobe fatigue Temporal lobe is responsible for: Hearing Speech Memory Emotional response Smell Interpreting sounds Tinnitus Cant hear due to background noise Hippocampus Language Memory Hormones Sense of direction Sleep/awake cycles Alzheimer’s is a degeneration of hippocampus Parietal lobe is responsible for: Process all touch sensations, hot/cold, pain Interprets sensations Texture, weight, size, shape Interprets input from skin, muscles, joints, vision so that the body knows where it is at in it’s environment Occipital lobe is responsible for: Processing visual information Degeneration of the Occipital lobe Difficulty processing visual information like shapes, colors, movement Hallucinations Visual floaters Visual persistence or reoccurrence after image is gone Cerebellum (little brain) Calibrates muscle coordination Calibrates input from inner ear for balance and eye movements Calibrates information from muscles & joints and filters it before sending it to the brain Brainstem Autonomic Nervous System = Controls Things Automatically (organs, blood vessels, glands) Autonomic nervous system Parasympathetics (rest/digest) Lower brain stem Sympathetics (fight/flight) Upper brain stem These 2 divisions cannot simultaneously dominate; when one fires the other is quiet. Guess which system fires when we are stressed…? Sympathetics!! Stress Not just emotional stress but metabolic & chemical stress. 90% of the neo cortex job is to stimulate the lower brain stem’s parasympathetic activity. When we have degeneration of the neo cortex we lose parasympathetic activity and the fight or flight nervous system takes over. Symptoms of high sympathetic activity: High blood pressure Dry eyes/dry mouth/loss of taste/smell Poor digestion/constipation Headaches Chronic pain Insomnia Fatigue Hormone imbalances Sensitivity to light/sound Cold hands/feet Frequent urination/incontinence Erectile dysfunction Low libido What causes the brain to degenerate Blood sugar imbalances Stress Poor circulation & oxygen Food sensitivities Poor gut function Inflammation Poor neurotransmitters Hormone imbalances Poor essential fatty acids Toxins Lack of activity Stress and the brain Atrophies the brain promotes brain inflammation and breaks down the blood-brain barrier. Biggest stress is not emotional! Poor diet (high carbs, fat) Alcohol, smoking, caffeine Food sensitivities Anemias Gut infections Autoimmune disorders Adrenal fatigue and Musculo-skeletal pain Poor digestion- low GABA production Stress hormone: cortisol Degeneration of the Hippocampus Memory loss/Dementia Shuts

This adaptation is crucial and is achieved through the several regulatory mechanisms involved in controlling energy and its utilization. Energy use is tightly regulated so that demands of all cells can be met simultaneously. Measuring Ketones Ketones are water soluble molecules from fatty acid oxidation. Fats are broken down in 3 main Ketones: β-HBA (measured in Blood) – specific levels at that time, measured with a glucose meter, test strips Acetoacetate -AcAc (measured in Urine) interim spillage, use the ketone test strips. Short-term measurement Acetone (measured in breath) – overall level reflecting metabolic usage of ketones from Acetoacetate, use the ketonix breath analyzer Benefits of Dietary Ketosis Reduction in inflammatory response and risk of chronic degenerative disease: Improved mitochondrial efficiency: An increase in ergogenic and decreased thermogenic Increased mitochondria concentration/density as a response to low carbohydrate levels Mitochondria run better on fats for longer low intensity energy requirements When combined with Intermittent Fasting (IF) shows an increase in autophagia and mitogenesis Improved Cardiovascular function: Improved energy performance: Epigenetic control: MicroBiome and Gut Function Reduction of Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth. & other bacterial (gut) infections Reduction in pain and bowel spasms. Your Adrenal Fix Podcast #6: How To Solve Your Adrenal Fatigue By Fixing Your Gut
What We Are Going To Cover Why H pylori, gut infections and adrenal fatigue is a two way street, each contributing to each other, and both requiring a specific protocol for adrenal fatigue recover The 6 common problems in the gut, that leads to your chronic inflammation, and burnt out adrenal glands The 3-step process to rebuilding your adrenal glands gut health (and break the vicious cycle) One supplement you’ve probably NEVER taken, and the two others that it is paired up with that your Doctors probably haven’t recommended, that can change your “adrenal fatigue” and gut health situation right now Why H pylori, gut infections and adrenal fatigue is a two way street, each contributing to each other, and both requiring a specific protocol for adrenal fatigue recover Human Microbiome Project 5yr/ $140 million effort to study and explore how the trillions of microscopic organisms in our bodies affect our health. Total microbial cells found in association with humans may exceed the total number of cells making up the human body by a factor of 10:1. The total number of genes associated with the human microbiome could exceed the total number of human genes by a factor of 100:1. Organisms found include bacteria, yeast, protozoa, parasites, viruses and bacteriophages. 100 trillion bacteria At least 1,000 different species Early disruption of gut flora affects later immune function causing potential allergies and autoimmunity Good flora protects us from pathogens Aids with digestion of carbohydrates and fiber to form SCFA which in turn fuels enterocytes MUCOSAL BARRIER FUNCTION Mucous membranes comprise the primary interface between the external environment and the internal environment of the body. Most absorption of nutrients AND toxins occurs across mucous membranes Most pathogens enter the body by binding to and penetrating mucous membranes. THE THREE MAIN INITIATORS OF ILLNESS Emotional stress: How we perceive an event, rather than the event itself, is most important in generating a stress response. Dietary stress: Simple carbohydrate ingestion leads to rapid elevations in blood sugar which ultimately leads to ‘up & down’ dysregulation via insulin and cortisol responses. Pain & hidden inflammation:Pathogens in the gut (e.g. parasites, bacteria, fungus) are often sources of hidden inflammation. Secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA): a mucous membrane surface antibody produced by immunocytes in mucous membranes SIgA provides first physical barrier of defense protecting against pathogens (parasites, bacteria, yeast) Learn how chronic stress affects cortisol levels and SIgA (Secretory Immunoglubulin A), leading to GI problems Breakdown of the first defense leads to chronic stress More likely to have/acquire an infection, pathogen, or microbial infiltration. Learn more about the relationship between H pylori infections and adrenal fatigue by clicking here. Helicobacter Pylori: Stress: Causes damage to stomach lining and reduces SIgA. Common in patients with heartburn, GERD, Common H. Pylori symptoms Upper Abdominal Pain Heartburn/Reflux Gastritis Indigestion Duodenal/Peptic Ulcers Constipation Nausea Belching Easily acquired infection, leads to increased risk of ulcers and stomach cancer Acquired from food Acquired from kissing Bacterium most often enters body through uncooked foods One study documented 1/3 of cases through saliva/kissing Has been obtained from oral cavity as well as vaginal and prostate fluids Likelihood of infection is equal to a person’s age whether symptomatic or not 80% of individuals infected with the bacterium are asymptomatic, and it may play an important role in the natural stomach ecology.[3] More than 50% of the world’s population harbor H. pylori in their upper gastrointestinal tract. Infection is more prevalent in developing countries, and incidence is decreasing in Western countries The 6 common problems in the gut, that leads to your chronic inflammation, and adrenal fatigue: The link between stress and reduced SIgA, meant it was more then just an infectious process (1982 by Australian scientists Barry Marshall and Robin Warren) The fact that up to 85% of people infected with H. pylori never experience symptoms or complications* With a decreased ability to secrete stomach acid is the paradoxical symptoms of heartburn and GERD. When you have decreased ability to disinfect your food, you have more like a chance to have other gut infections. With increased inflammation, intestinal permeability develops. That is, leakiness of the gut, which predisposes you to food sensitivities. With increased inflammation in the gut, you are less likely to absorb vital nutrients. Leading to nutrient deficiencies. The 3-step process to rebuilding your adrenal glands gut health (and break the vicious cycle) Cause: Stress, Emotional, Dietary, Inflammation, Reduce Adrenal Stress/Cortisol Release, impact SIgA Gastrointestinal Repair, Test for H. pylori – PCR/stool antigen/ blood antibodies, Eliminate patho

Your Adrenal Fix Podcast Episode #4: The Role of Musculoskeletal Pain and Adrenal Fatigue
Understanding the role of Musculoskeletal pain plays on Adrenal Fatigue, and what you can do about it: What We Are Going To Cover: Why musculoskeletal pain is often the root cause behind brain fog, anxiety, fatigue, exhaustion, not being able to bounce back, and ultimately, adrenal fatigue. Why your medical doctor doesn’t make the connection between your musculoskeletal pain and your adrenal fatigue What are the best tests for determining your Adrenal Gland Status, that your doctor probably doesn’t even know exists Two supplements you’ve probably NEVER taken, that your Doctors probably haven’t recommended, that can change your Adrenal Fatigue situation right now Chronic pain impacts the stress response, contributing to adrenal fatigue. Common symptoms of musculoskeletal pain: Back and/or Neck Pain Leg(s) and/or Arm(s) Pain, Burning, Numbness, Tingling Foot and/or Hand Pain, Burning, Numbness, Tingling Weakness Atrophy Stiffness Fatigue Aggravation Loss of Your Ability To Perform Your Regular Daily Tasks “Unassociated Neurological Symptoms” That Doctors Know About, But Do NOTHING About: Loss of balance Lack of energy, exhaustion Peripheral neuropathy Vertigo Light headedness Visual disturbances Depression/anxiety Brain fog/memory loss Headaches Low sex drive/loss of erections in males IBS/digestive problems Mood swings And more…All due to the effects of spinal pain on the brain. Common treatments – these are medical and structural treatments only; they don’t include metabolic and neurological treatment: Physical Therapy – including stretching, exercise, weight loss, heat, electric stimulation medication Epidurals – anti-inflammatory steroid injections into the spine Musculoskeletal pain medications Another round of Epidurals* Surgery Another surgery Chiropractic – structural only Impact of the epidurals on adrenals | Facts about surgery & epidurals Statistics show that 1 in 100 low back surgeries are successful in relieving pain. Most surgeries take place again within 1–5 years (unknown stats: those that have adrenal involvement). The brain habituates to stimulus, so if the epidural works the 1st time, then the brain and body get used to it and it can’t work anymore. All Chronic Health conditions have some common threads: Chronic Neck/Back Pain Type 2 Diabetes Insulin Resistance (Metabolic Syndrome) Thyroid Conditions Fibromyalgia Vertigo Sciatica Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Peripheral Neuropathy Autoimmune Diseases Stenosis IBS Insomnia Migraine/Chronic Headaches ADD/ADHD/ Spectrum Disorders Metabolic Imbalances Adrenal gland dysfunction Anemia Thyroid Dysfunction Unstable blood sugar Hormonal imbalances Auto-immune attacks Hidden infections (gut or viral) Food sensitivities Hypoxia (low oxygen) Chronic Inflammation Neurological Imbalances Brain Decline and Fatigue. Metabolism can be defined as converting food into energy. 30% of our energy goes to what system? That is the link between producing energy (metabolism), and the nervous system. 30% of the total energy demands go towards the nervous system for proper functioning. So if you have a metabolic problem, you are going to impact the nervous system. To put it another way…Bad Metabolism (energy) = Fatigued Brain = Structural Damage to the Spine (muscle tightness, disc compression/injury, joint misalignment, pinched nerves, degenerative arthritis, Stenosis) For permanent results all 3 areas must be properly treated: Metabolic (inflammation) Structural (compression) Neurological (brain/cerebellum) Have you had all 3 done at once? This is why your medical doctor doesn’t make the connection between your musculoskeletal pain and your adrenal fatigue. Chemical/Physical Stress to the Brain and Cerebellum Anemia Too little oxygen Blood Sugar Imbalance Glucose Food Sensitivities Gluten, casien (dairy), soy Immune System Imbalance Autoimmune Poor Diet Inflammation- omega 6: omega 3 fatty acids Hypothyroid function Prescription/ Non-prescription drugs Hidden infections (gut) These are Metabolic problems that create cerebellum and spinal problems! Metabolic Disorders Causing Cerebellum Problems… Adrenal Gland Disorders Anemia Blood Sugar Imbalances Food Sensitivity Immune System Imbalance Thyroid dysfunction Hidden infections How do you know if you have these? Proper Testing!!! What are the best tests for determining your Adrenal Fatigue, that your doctor probably doesn’t even know exists: Typically, your doctor will conduct: Complete Blood Chemistry Panel (functional values) Including thyroid markers, HA1C, lipids, CBC with auto-differential (looking for anemia or infection) Or if you are lucky: Salivary Hormone Testing. Salivary test looking at all the adrenal hormones including cortisol (which is better then the single morning cortisol test in the am, or the ACTH test) But the best test is: The DUTCH TEST (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) The most up-to-date Advanced Homrone Testing on the market. It’s so brand new, that chances are, most doctor

Your Adrenal Fix Podcast Episode #3: What Else is Missing? The Adrenal Fatigue “X”-factor
What Else is Missing”? Learn About the “X”-Factor, That Every Adrenal Fatigue Sufferer MUST Learn How your genes may be to blame! What We Are Going To Cover: 92% of chronic condition sufferers who have genetic testing, haven’t been properly explained their results and how that relates to their adrenal fatigue. What 4 Tests That Both Your Primary Doctor or Natural Doctor Are Not Ordering, That You Must Have To Help Boost Energy…Naturally. How Your Own Unique Environmental Stressors Must Be Incorporated Into Your Treatment Plan. How Your Nutritional Program is Not a One-Size Fits All Strategy, And How Pulsing Nutrients, and Living Under the Bell Shaped Curve is The Way To Go. What is Adrenal Fatigue? Adrenal fatigue is when the function of the glands output of hormone is not regulated based on stress responses. Adrenal fatigue can wreak havoc with your life. In serious cases, the activity of the adrenal glands is so diminished that you may have difficulty getting out of bed for more than a few hours per day. With each increment of reduction in adrenal function, every organ and system in your body is more profoundly affected. How your genetics may be to blame? COMT, MAO, PNMT, DBH Breakdown of catecholamines/dopamine = loss of feedback mechanisms CYP1B1, CYP21 Conversion of cortisol from 17-OH Progesterone SRD5a, SRD5b, 11b-HSD Cortisol metabolism MTHFR Not enough gas in the tank to regulate a stress response Breakdown of Dopamine/Catecholamines Cortisol Metabolism Cytochrome P450 Enzymes Required for the adrenal synthesis of mineralocorticoids and glucocorticoids.Genetic variants can slow the function of hydroxylase enzymes resulting in slowing of synthesis of cortisol Cortisol Metabolites SRD5a/5b – cortisol reductase enzymes that convert cortisol into tetrahydrocortisol , a metabolite of cortisol. 11bHSD (11 Beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase – enzyme that converts cortisol into cortisone and corisone into cortisol. Factors that affect these enzymes include thyroid dysfucntion, dysglycemia/insulin resistance, inflammation, insomnia, fatty liver Methylation Pathway Starts The Party for This Whole Adrenal Fatigue Standpoint The Methionine Methylation Cycle Removes Toxins Eliminates Free Radicals Protects B12 Supports Immune Function Methylation The way the body deals with stress is called methylation. Promotes Detoxification Controls Inflammation Balances Neurotransmitters If methylation is not performing efficiently, key bodily functions can not be performed effectively. These abnormal by-products can lead to high levels of inflammation in the body, which can result in mood and emotional changes as well as liver, pancreas, thyroid, stomach, intestinal, adrenal, and hormone imbalances. Methyl groups are VITAL for normal cell replication. Turn genes, enzymes “on” or “off” Depleted methyl groups Bad genes turn on – Oncogenes Good genes turn off – Tumor Suppressor genes Good genes can become mutated Methyl groups come from stomach acid Proper MTHFR expression is needed for proper Methylation MTHFR is an enzyme in the methylation cycle that converts 5,10MTHF to 5-MTHF Methylene-tetrahydrofolate reductase The MTHFR enzyme is vital for many biochemical processes in the body and is a major player in the methylation cycle. A genetic problem interferes with your body’s ability to break down folic acid into methylfolate, leading to a decrease in methylfolate production, methyl B12 production, and SAMe (S-Adenosyl Methionine). Deficiencies in active folate can cause many chronic neurological and metabolic health conditions What is your Doctor Missing in relationship to adrenal fatigue? What doctors are missing when it comes to determining if you have adrenal fatigue. Genetic testing beyond MTHFR 23andmeLiveWello, MTFHRSupport, Nutrhacker, Genetic Genie Functional Genetics and the best test for adrenal fatigue Adrenal fatigue – DUTCH Test (Cortisol metabolities) Organic Acids Methylation Pathway Testing – SAM, SAH, Cysteine, Homocysteine, Methionine NeuroBiogenic Amines Epigenetics The environment and lifestyle drive the genetics. Your Adrenal Fix Podcast Episode #2: How To Eliminate Adrenal Fatigue And Have A Healthy Thyroid
What We Are Going To Cover in this Adrenal Fix Podcast: Why you still have thyroid symptoms even though your blood tests are normal How To Eliminate Adrenal Fatigue And Hypothyroid Why 80-90% of the time, thyroid medications won’t work, and how to determine if yours is working What are the best thyroid supplementations to help you boost your metabolism, regain your energy, and get back your life Why you still have hypothyroid symptoms even though your blood tests are normal? Have you been told your lab tests are all “Normal”? Lab ranges are inaccurate, based on the average of the sick people who take the the tests at that lab the year prior. Bell curves are used and if you are not sicker then then average sick person, then you are told that your tests are normal. Yet you still suffer with adrenal fatigue and hypothyroid symptoms. Functional lab values are more sensitive to reveal problems, and you should base your lab your results on ranges based on healthy people. This is why your lab tests are normal but you still feel sick: A true thyroid functional test to determine hypothyroid: TSH..this is what conventionally is ordered But what about these? Total T4 (thyroxine) FTI (free thyroxine index) (amount of T4 available) FT4 (free throxine) (affected by prescription drugs) T3 Uptake (How much of T3 is taken up by TBG) FT3 (free triodothyroxine) (Active Thyroid Hormone) Reverse T3 (Body can not use) TPO and TBG Antibodies (Hashimotos) TSH Antibodies (Graves Disease) TBG levels Typical Thyroid Test Ordered TSH How can you manage health without all the information? Burning out the thyroid gland with hormone replacement is a 50 year old model. In order to manage your health you need to look at the causes of the problem…not just the symptoms. Hashimotos Thyroiditis (hypothyroid) and Graves Disease These are not Thyroid problems! Your immune system is mistakenly attacking TPO or TBG (Hashimotos) or TSH (Graves Disease). It is an immune problem! There is an imbalance in your immune system that needs to be addressed. Thyroid Supports: Bone metabolism Immune System Brain/Nervous System Endocrine System (adrenal glands, ovaries, testes) Gastrointestinal function Liver and gallbladder Growth/Sex hormones Fat Burning Insulin and Glucose Metabolism Healthy cholesterol levels Proper stomach acid Every cell in your body has Thyroid receptors! Why 80-90% of the time, thyroid medications won’t work, and how to determine if yours is: It’s because the most common causes of hypothyroidism, 80-90%, is Hashimoto’s autoimmunity. Whereby an individuals immune system has created antibodies against their own tissue. In this case, against their own thyroid. Meaning, 8-9 individuals out of 10, that have a hypothyroid problem, have an immune based problem (and a large part of the other 10-20% have problems occurring outside of the thyroid). So, it’s really no wonder why adrenal fatigue and thyroid suffers continue to suffer despite thyroid medication. With Hashimoto’s , in functional medicine 101, that means the immune system mistakingly confuses the thyroid tissue with a foreign invader. That is, the problem with the thyroid primarily comes from the immune systems attack on the thyroid. Which then impacts the mechanics of the thyroid. And in turn, the immune system impacts how effective the thyroid it is working. The Common Denominator Between The Adrenals and The Hypothyroid: Stress Stress is the common denominator between adrenal fatigue and hypothyroid. Stress, whether physical, mental, emotional, environmental, toxic, pathogenic, or otherwise. All of these stressors impact your body metabolically. Meaning, all of your cells, tissues, all of your organs, and systems, have a thyroid receptor that helps the metabolic activity of that cell. All of these cells need thyroid hormone activity to speed it up or slow down. So stress impacts thyroid function, in many different ways. Stressors impact your body, your stress fighting system, the adrenal gland system, is also impacted. With continued exposure to stress, adrenal fatigue develops, even though your doctor doesn’t believe in adrenal fatigue. Hence Adrenal Fatigue and thyroid function are connected to each other by stress. Hypothyroid Symptoms: Fatigue Increase in weight gain even with low calorie diet Morning headaches that wear off as the day progresses Depression Constipation Overly sensitive to cold weather Poor circulation and numbness in hands and feet Muscle cramps while at rest Catches colds and other viral/bacterial problems easily and has difficulty recovering Wounds heal slowly Require excessive amount of sleep to function properly Chronic digestive problems (hypochlorhydria) Itchy dry skin Dry or brittle hair Hair falls out easily Edema, especially facial (myxedema) Loss of outside portion of eyebrows Adrenal symptoms Cannot stay asleep Cannot stay asleep Craves salt Slow starter in the morning Afternoon fatigue Dizziness when standing quickly Afternoon headaches Headaches
