This week we are finishing our study through the book of Galatians, learning the Good News of Christ and the freedom found in salvation through Jesus. In the final chapter, Paul addresses the church urging them to keep each other accountable and to bear one another's burdens. As we strive to walk in the Gospel we must keep in step with God's spirit. We can do this by immersing ourselves in Christ-centered community and freedom. God gave us the gift of fellowship; we have each other to lean on and to have accountability as we walk in the light of God's spirit. Today we continue in our message series in Galatians, Good News, diving into what it means to be free in Christ. Before we come to know Christ, we long to gratify our desires, our flesh. We live with internal passions to be fulfilled; every time we fulfill them, they grow. Once we have come to know Jesus and accepted Him as our savior, we learn that those in Christ have crucified their flesh along with their passions and desires. Yet, we still may experience these desires from our old life. So, as we learn to walk with the Spirit, Jesus points out a few steps we should take as we walk alongside Him. We must recognize that we have an inner struggle that goes towards fulfilling our flesh, we should acknowledge the fruit that is growing in our life and put our flesh to death in Christ Jesus. When we walk with the Spirit and crucify our flesh, we will see godly attributes growing in our lives like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. In our Galatians series, Good News, we are continuing to study the freedom from the law and security found in the Gospel. When we find ourselves returning to our old ways, habits, or sins, it's as if we are re-enslaving ourselves to the law and forfeiting our liberty in Jesus. Paul shows us that we lose the benefits of Christ, the scandal of the cross, and the motivation to love when we revert to the law and believe the lie that we can do it all with our efforts. In some ways, freedom is scary. We can find comfort in thinking that our faith is based on works, but Jesus desires us to know in deep ways that our faith is based solely on believing in the Gospel and accepting Christ as our Savior. Jesus saved us by grace alone. Despite our flaws and shortcomings, He loves us deeply. We would be foolish to go back to the law and abandon a gracious Gospel and loving Father. Where can you find true freedom? Have you found yourself searching for something that will satisfy the longing in your heart? Today, we are continuing in ourGood News series, revealing the goodness of the Gospel. In Christ, we get to experience the truest form of freedom, eternal joy in Him. We are promised of this truth, within His word are several points and promises from Christ that reveal His ultimate desire—to save and free us from the law and burden of sin. In the depths of your souls, maybe you felt a stirring, or deep longing for something more, to be freed. When we enter in relationship with Jesus and put our trust in His Gospel, we get to step into the freedom He promises us. Jesus states that we are children of the promise and free in Christ. The law before Christ brought slavery, but the Gospel brings freedom, and we should stand firm in that freedom. We can’t muster this freedom on our own, it’s a gift given through Christ alone. As Christians, how does the Gospel form us? Maybe this question has crossed your mind or maybe it hasn’t, the formation we go through in Christ is an ongoing process. This week we continue in our series, Good News, studying the Gospel and how it shapes our lives. As we seek after Christ and are continually molded by Him, we are given three action steps. We are to remember our former bondage—where we were before Christ, return to our former zeal, and receive Christ’s formative work. When we allow ourselves to be formed by the Gospel, we experience the freedom that can only come when we are in Christ. Our Savior renews us each day, as we surrender ourselves to His work and give Him the space to shape and form us. Have you found yourself falling into the lie that if you’re a good person you will receive God's blessings? Or that it is based on your works? We will fail time and time again if we allow ourselves to think we can do it solely based on our efforts. Today, we are continuing our series, Good News, looking at the truth and hope of the Gospel. So, how do we experience the blessings of God? In Galatians, we see how Paul desires the church of Galatia not to believe in a false gospel; he urges them to believe in the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. God’s blessing comes by faith alone in Christ alone. In obedience to Christ, we must surrender our efforts and trust in Jesus, He has won, and we can have hope in Him. Paul asks direct questions to the church in this passage to allow them to think through how they were experiencing the blessings of God in their lives then. As we dive into another week of our Good News message series, we will see this week that the Gospel alone is all we need. Paul writes in his letter to Galatia that he has been crucified with Christ, stating that Christ lives in him, no longer did he allow his flesh to lead him. As fellow believers in Jesus, this truth is the same for us. When we came to know Christ Jesus, we surrendered our lives to Him, from there our lives are transformed by faith in God. In this chapter, we see that nothing but the Gospel is needed. The Gospel is our source of freedom, ministry, and justification. We have access to lean on Jesus at any moment. The Gospel is rich in hope for a weary world. In Christ, we are made new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us of the change that comes when we are in Christ, our old self is washed away, and we are renewed. What does this Gospel transformation look like? Last week we kicked off our fall sermon series, Good News, looking at the goodness within the Gospel and how it impacts us. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is revelation that transforms, this change is from the inside out. When we receive salvation in Christ, we are brought to repentance because the Gospel reveals our sin and urges us to turn away from it. Jesus takes us on a journey to remove sin and shame and instill renewed faith, hope, and courage in Him. The Gospel reveals Christ and our destiny. Placing our faith and hope in Christ gives us the promise of spending eternity with Him. For the past month, we have been walking through our Metamorphosis series, tackling ways we can transform our lives. To wrap up our series, we are opening the book of Hebrews to discuss how we can find true contentment. Our culture is always trying to gain and get more as if there is this invisible ladder we are trying to climb, but when is enough truly enough for us? Scripture warns us that the love of money is the root of all evil. Finding true contentment means, we must love God more than we love money. We are called to renounce loving money, remember God's promise, and respond with confident faith. In today’s culture, many tend to hold onto anger, desire revenge, or deal with anger in chaotic ways. As followers of Christ, we are called to handle our anger in a Christ-honoring way. So, how can we do this best as Christians? Our Metamorphosis series has been focused on transforming our minds to align with Christ, this week we will talk about anger and reframing our mindset on how we handle anger. James 1:19 states we should be “quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” As we choose to deal with our anger lovingly, we should seek wisdom from scripture because Godly wisdom produces peace among people. When seeking wisdom from God's word we will see that Godly wisdom brings peace and Godly wisdom takes action, while worldly wisdom produces chaos. In our pursuit to deal with our anger in ways that glorify God, let us seek out scripture and wisdom from above. Scripture does not shy away from the fact that as we walk this life, we will face adversity. Following Christ does not take us away from difficulties, challenges, or adversity, it may heighten them—all for His glory. This week in our Metamorphosis series, we looked at adversity and found out how we can look at adversity as opportunity rather than a hindrance. In Philippians, Paul writes about his imprisonment due to sharing the Gospel, Paul is an example of howadversity can cause us to grow in Christ. Paul even exclaims, “for me to live is Christ, to die is gain.” We have an opportunity to bring the Gospel everywhere, we should not be ashamed of it, for Christ dwells in us if we have placed our trust in Him alone. Embracing adversity requires us to know that endurance inspires faith, we should rejoice in Gospel proclamation and recognize that adversity is a win-win. Are we living in the last days? According to scripture, we are. The only thing holding back Christ’s return is that His followers must continue to bring more and more to know Jesus. But it seems that many have fallen into apathy. With the truth that we are living in the last days, that statement should change the way we live and act. As we continue in our Metamorphosis series, this week we will address the issue of apathy. Our succumbing to apathy can go unnoticed, not realizing we have fallen into this frame of mind. So how do we get out of that mindset? We must be transformed by the word of God. An urgency to spread the gospel defeats apathy. We are to follow the ways of scripture and devote ourselves to love, show hospitality, and serve with diligence. In our message series, Metamorphosis, we are talking about transforming our minds with the word of God. Today, we will hear how our ambitions are welcomed in Christ, but we must submit them to God in an act of obedience to Him. Jesus had ambition, a ton of it. His ambitions were submitted to God, and He led them out with fervor—being the atonement for all. We have the chance to align our dreams and ambitions, just as Jesus did with God. When we submitthem to God, He will exceed our expectations and align our desire with the desires of His own. We must put off worldly ambition and put on godly ambition. As we continue in our message series, Metamorphosis, we will talk about the hold that anxiety has made are many today. Anxiety can feel inescapable and suffocating. We may lose hope of ever feeling free from its chains, but we will see that there is hope. What was once anxiety can be turned into peace, by the grace and power of God. Through praying with gratitude, meditating on what is good, and living out God’s word, we can experience our anxieties turning into peace. We are beginning a new series called, Metamorphosis, where we will look at scripture passages that will guide us to transforming our minds to the work of Christ. When God saves us from our corrupt ways, our response should be a life of worship to Him. He extends mercy to us because of His immense love for His creation. Our response to this mercy looks like committing your body to the Lord, rejecting the world's thinking, and receiving a new mind. How will you respond to the mercy He has shown you? We conclude our two-part study of Jude. In the face of false teaching and life in a fallen world, believers are called to persevere and contend for the faith! As Christians, one of our highest callings is to reach the world with the Gospel. This can sometimes feel like an overwhelming thing. Christians are called to bring the Gospel to the world, we can read our direct calling in Scripture. We are a part of the body of Christ, we have brothers and sisters who are all on the same mission with us, thankfully we don’t have to do it alone. Our mission is to reach, to reach until all have heard. We can do this together as a body of Christ by discipling one another in mission. Before Jesus ascended into heaven after His resurrection, he brought all the disciples together as a sort of final commissioning. We have come to know this as the “great commission.” He told them to go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to believe in Him. This was the mission of the disciples after Jesus took His place at the right hand of the Father and it is our mission as followers of His, today. We are beginning a two-week sermon series labeled, Reach: Where There is No Church, discussing the necessity to bring the Gospel to the ends of the Earth. The Gospel is the power of God for salvation to all who believe. As believers, we should aim to live with a faith and longing to go, recognize the power for all who believe, and live unashamed of the Gospel. How are Christians called to relate to the government? In a fractured and increasingly divided political landscape, knowing the role of the government and how we should relate to our governing institutions as Christians becomes vitally important. At Woodside, we believe in making disciples, by reaching the world and our local communities with the saving grace of Christ. People everywhere desperately need Jesus. Spreading the Gospel should not be difficult or anxiety-driven, but rather an authentic conversation on faith and the need for Jesus. The book of Romans points out our need for Christ, why it is essential to share the Gospel, and where our salvation comes from. We see four truths from various chapters in Romans on a basic framework for sharing the Gospel. As we wrap up our What God Says About series, it is necessary that we look at what God says about femininity, especially on a day that celebrates the wonderful mothers in our lives. God’s word is clear that it values women, and their role in the church, in families, and in the world. Proverbs 31 is one of the most highly quoted scriptures that points to the value and need for women. We see three important points from this chapter on how to honor the women in our lives. We should acknowledge her value, affirm her work, and applaud her character. Godly women are an essential part of the world, the church, and the home. We have been working through our What God Says About series. This week we tackle a topic that is not often talked about in the church—sex. Scripture has much to say about it though, so it seems important we discuss what God has to say. God makes it abundantly clear that sex was created to be shared within the covenant of marriage, as two become one. The stain of sin in this world has sadly tainted the view of sex, painting it in a way that one should explore their sexuality, rather than saving it for the sacredness of marriage. The Bible makes it clear that sex is a good gift from God, to be shared only in marriage. As we aim to honor God in our sex lives we see three truths within scripture—to delight in your spouse, honor wise boundaries, and understand the danger of adultery. We are going through our series, What God Says About. This week we look at What God Says About Work. What we do matters to God. We are the representation of Christ, how we work reflects Him. Colossians 3:23 says we should “work heartily as for the Lord and not for men.” God commands us to work hard and to serve Him in all we do. In Proverbs, we find some examples of things that hinder us from fulfilling our call to work. There are three examples of obstacles we may face when it comes to work: laziness, distractedness, and selfishness. Proverbs 6 shows us that we have a calling to fulfill, that call is to work. We see in Genesis God giving Adam and Eve the call to tend to the garden and care for the animals. That was a privilege they held, given from God. The book of Proverbs says a lot about the company we keep. Who we walk through life with will have an influence on where we go in life and who we become. So, what kind of friend do you need? Or even need to be to others? Find out in our latest message from our What God Says About series.

Last Sunday, we started a new series, What God Says About, taking insights from the book of Proverbs, and applying God’s wisdom to some everyday situations we may face. When it comes to the way we speak to others, what we say matters. Our words hold much power. We have the choice to speak words of life or words of death over those we interact with each day. From Proverbs, we pick up a few pieces of advice when it comes to this topic. We should aim to speak less and listen more, to speak words of grace and encouragement, and to speak words of truth and challenge. As we strive to build each other up, our Heavenly Father encourages us to be careful in our words and to speak words that bring life. We are diving into a new series, What God Says About, looking at the book of Proverbs to glean wisdom from about how to lean on God in the situations we face each day. Proverbs 3 tells us, the one who finds wisdom and understanding is blessed. Wisdom guides us in the decisions we make every day. As we seek Christ to be emulated in our lives, we should look to honor Him through our choices, who better to ask for wisdom from than Christ. For God’s wisdom is supremely precious. This Easter Sunday we are ending our 'Believe' series, by diving into a commonly asked question, why should I believe in Jesus? There are many differing opinions that circulate in our culture, doubting the existence of Jesus. It can be hard to remain faithful to a God we can’t physically see, especially when our doubts drown out what we know to be true. Good news, Jesus isn’t shocked by our doubts! He invites us to bring our doubts to Him; He knows them and He will reveal the truth to us—we just have to let Him in. Jesus knows our doubts, answers our fears, and blesses our faith. The resurrected King invites us to believe in Him! Join us this resurrection Sunday as we celebrate the risen King. He is alive and has stepped out of the grave; our belief in Him is alive!

For this Good Friday, we behold Jesus as King, Shepherd, and Savior through the Apostle John's retelling of the Garden arrest narrative. Hear from Pastor Jacob Ley, Pastor Joel Tomkinson, and Rev. Brandon Cleaver as they share the teaching at this special gathering.

This Palm Sunday, we are beginning with true belief, and how that belief in Jesus shows in our lives. As we enter Holy Week, we begin with looking at Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. We' see how true, genuine belief shows in our lives when we honor Jesus as king, bear witness to Jesus’ work, and pursue Jesus’ presence.

Our series, Confessions: Erasing Shame and Experiencing Renewal, is ending. We have been slowly walking through Psalm 51, learning what true confession and renewal looks like. As we wrap up our series this week, we tackle the effect our sin and our confession of sin has on our communities. When one begins to experience transformational renewal, others will see and begin to desire that same revival in themselves. An individual's personal confession pleads for communal renewal. In turn, our communal renewal will enjoy God's delight. Join us as we wrap up our series walking though Psalm 51. This week we are journeying on in our series, Confessions: Erasing Shame and Experiencing Renewal, looking to Psalm 51 as a guide to help us in our journey of finding renewal in Christ. In times when we have messed up or let someone down, it is easy for us to be full of shame and think that hiding is better. But God invites us into something different. He tells us that we can experience life transforming restoration and renewal, when we go to Him in humbleness, He is faithful to help us out of our pit of sin. When we are seeking renewal, we can first ask for God’s restoration and respond to His grace with genuine worship. God’s restoration in us, should cause us to react in worship. Giving praise to God for what He has done in us and for us; giving testimony to others through what Christ has done in us. Our response should be genuine praise back to Him for what He has done for us. God’s restoration leads us into worship. As we journey on in our series, Confessions: Erasing Shame and Experiencing Renewal, we will see that an essential part of confession is taking responsibility for our sin. In Romans, we see that Paul states, “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” When we were born into this world, we entered into sin, our need for Jesus is very great. And the first step we take in the process of confession is realizing our sin and owning up to it. In confessing before God, it is important that we acknowledge that God is just, confess our fallen nature, and receive God's wisdom. What a gift, that we do not have to do it alone. We have the blood of Christ to cover our sins, He does not leave us alone, we need to take the initial step of recognizing and confessing. We are continuing in our new series, Confessions: Erasing Shame and Experiencing Renewal, this week we will be diving into Gods mercy and how He is faithful to show us mercy. When we appeal to the character of God and appeal to the cleansing power of God, we can experience His great mercy. Rather than carrying it on our own, the Lord is calling us to confess, surrender, release our grip on struggling to clean ourselves up. We can’t do it without Him. When we believe in Him and turn toward Him, confessing before Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to show us mercy. He can mend what we have broken, and He can heal our hearts from what we have let in. We do not have to suffer in silence, no matter how easy it may seem to suppress it and clean it up on our own. We are beginning a new series, Confessions: Erasing Shame and Experiencing Renewal, where we will look at 2 Samuel to better understand the role confession plays in our lives for us to find renewal. Today, we begin talking about this topic looking at David’s shortcomings when he gave into temptation and sinned against God. We see that the Lord confronts our sin so that we can experience renewal. To an extent, it’s as if we can have blinders on, where we can’t see the sin that tangles itself in our lives. On the other hand, we are aware of it and may turn our heads from seeing it. God lovingly confronts us with our sin because we are blind to it, at times we have despised the word of God, and the Lord is faithful to forgive our sin when we repent before Him. Today, we are closing out our series, Daniel: Clash of Cultures, looking at the life of Daniel as he faced several difficulties and resided in a land that was hostile to God. As Christians, we are called to have faith, a faith that stands strong against the patterns of the world. Our faith can have an impact on the people and communities we are met with. We are the representation of Christ; the world is looking at us, watching our actions and lifestyle. God calls us to be faithful and to stand firm upon Him. He is saying; be faithful, He will deliver us. As we dig into this chapter, we see four truths about Christian faithfulness, it exposes cultural opposition, cultivates uncompromising character, reveals Divine deliverance, and sparks spiritual awakening. Our faithfulness to God is so vital, it impacts all who meet us. May the truths we have looked at in this series inspire and challenge you in your walk with Christ. Stand firm, we are image bearers, we are in this world, but not of it!

We are diving into another chapter in Daniel, looking at the fall of a king who opposed God. In this chapter, we see that God is sovereign over ungodly kings and kingdoms. We learn lessons from history and actively try not to repeat their past mistakes—it is the same for us as Christians. The word of God is full of stories of men and women who have fallen short, disobeyed God, forgot Him, and walked away, but thanks be to God that He never stopped chasing after them. We see that through their failings and mistakes, God is present, He picked them up, patched the pieces, and restored them. Today, we are moving forward in our series on Daniel, looking at the journey of Daniel’s life and his courage to stay loyal to God whilst living in a culture that rejected God. Pride so simply entangles us in its grasp. It is easy to get caught in the success of what we complete or achieve and give ourselves all the credit, puffing ourselves up with more pridefulness. God warns us of the evil that can infect our hearts when we indulge in pride. But he does not leave us to figure it out on our own, He provides careful correction for our sinful ways, sharing with us His grace. God warns us of our pride, He will judge us for our sin, and then He restores us by his grace. He is faithful to redeem us. Today we will continue our series, Daniel: Clash of Cultures, looking at another courageous story of Daniel and his friends in Babylon. When faced with the direct command to bow down to a false image by King Nebuchadnezzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bend their knee to a fake god. They had the courage to refuse and remain loyal to God alone; even if their refusal meant a sentence to death. Through the bravery of these young men, we see how courageous faith rejects idolatrous worship.
