S1 Ep 285WR285: Rob Crooks
EMusician, songwriter, performance artist and original Witchpolice co-host (2012-14) [Rob Crooks](http://www.robcrooks.com/) is back on the show to talk about his fantastic new release, *The Nothing From Which Nothing Comes*, which drops on [Disintegration Records](http://www.disintegration.ca/rob-crooks) May 26. Rob is also the star of the upcoming Mike Maryniuk film, [*The Goose*](http://vimeo.com/249316437), which has taken him to European film festivals and beyond. As noted in the disclaimer at the top of the show, this was recorded outdoors and there are a few moments where the wind gets in the way of the conversation, but overall, the integrity of the interview isn't lost. It's a really good discussion. This episode brought to you by the [release party for 'Quiet Dreams'](http://www.facebook.com/events/207263916702467/) the new album by local indie rockers (and past Witchpolice guests) Hearing Trees. The event, presented by our friends at the Park Theatre, takes place May 25 at the Good Will Social Club, with guests The Perms, Micah Erenberg and Sophie Stevens. The episode is also brought to you by [Fourth Quarter Records](http://www.fourthquarterrecords.com/), your home for quality local hip-hop, as well as merchandise like the glorious 3Peat hoodies you've been seeing everywhere lately.

S1 Ep 284WR284: Rob Knaggs
ECellist and composer [Rob Knaggs](http://www.robknaggs.com/) may hail from Brisbane, Australia, but his real home is on the icy shores of northern Manitoba. Rob is a frequent visitor to Churchill, where his lifelong dream of performing his cinematic post-rock compositions for Arctic wildlife like belugas and polar bears can be fulfilled. Before Rob's next lengthy stay up north, he's playing one last Winnipeg show, [May 16 at the West End Cultural Centre](http://www.facebook.com/events/1499918810121015/) opening up for Tim Hecker. The episode is also brought to you by [Fourth Quarter Records](http://www.fourthquarterrecords.com/), your home for the best local hip-hop, as well as merchandise like the glorious 3Peat hoodies you've been seeing everywhere lately.

S1 Ep 283WR283: Housepanther
EWhen her [Spacebutt](http://spacebutt.bandcamp.com/) bandmates went their separate ways earlier this year, Bailee Woods didn't miss a beat, and shifted her focus to a solo power-pop project. As [Housepanther](http://housepanther.bandcamp.com/) (the person/the band/the legend), she released last month's excellent '[Club Soda Lows](http://housepanther.bandcamp.com/album/club-soda-lows)', an album that marries anxiety and dread with massive pop hooks. We met up in a mall food court for a ridiculous conversation about all of that and more. This episode brought to you by the [release party for 'Quiet Dreams'](http://www.facebook.com/events/207263916702467/) the new album by local indie rockers (and past Witchpolice guests) Hearing Trees. The event, presented by our friends at the Park Theatre, takes place May 25 at the Good Will Social Club May 25, with guests The Perms, Micah Erenberg and Sophie Stevens. The episode is also brought to you by [Fourth Quarter Records](http://www.fourthquarterrecords.com/), your home for the best local hip-hop, as well as merchandise like the glorious 3Peat hoodies you've been seeing everywhere lately.

S1 Ep 282WR282: 3Peat
EFor the first time since our milestone 200th episode, we're back in the West End for a chaotic discussion with Winnipeg's best rap outfit, [3Peat](http://threepeatmusic.bandcamp.com/)! The group -- frequent guest E.GG, plus Steve, Dill the Giant, and manager Anthony Carvalho -- talks about its upcoming European tour, the way the 3Peat sound has progressed since their debut EP, and their acceptance within music scenes of all stripes. Hear a new 3Peat song on the podcast, too! Fittingly, this episode is brought to you by 3Peat's label, [Fourth Quarter Records](http://www.fourthquarterrecords.com/), where you can get some great local hip-hop and those glorious 3Peat hoodies you've been seeing everywhere. It's also brought to you by [Local Jukebox Birthday Bands as Bands](http://www.facebook.com/events/285537361980181/), May 5 at the Park Theatre. It's a similar concept to the experiment we tried last year with the "Mutual Appreciation Society" show, but this one is a lot more ambitious (and we're not involved in it). Local bands will be performing full sets of other local bands' material (and vice versa). A quick look at the lineup is proof enough that this show will be a blast.

S1 Ep 281WR281: Hay Fever
ERoots/folk/bluegrass ensemble [Hay Fever](http://www.hayfeverband.com/) may have come to their genre of choice via a different route than most bands. While their excellent debut album is steeped in roots tradition, vocalist Zohreh Gervais and multi-instrumentalist Greg Hay sat down to talk about the five-piece's deep classical background (Greg, for example, is a member of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra), and the way that has impacted their sound. This episode brought to you by the Park Theatre, which is host to [Prairie Diva presents Spring Fever: Burlesque Fusion Cabaret](http://www.facebook.com/events/1597646643653916/), April 27-28... and by our friends in Winnipeg's finest rap group, [3Peat](http://https://threepeatmusic.bandcamp.com/), who are playing a [fundraising show](http://www.facebook.com/events/395512404256728/) for their upcoming European tour on April 27 at the Good Will. Stay tuned for an interview with 3Peat on next week's podcast! We also wanted to give a huge shoutout to everyone who has supported the podcast so far this month -- whether that's through sharing a link, subscribing to the show, following us on social media, or by supporting the podcast financially via [Patreon](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice). Big hugs go out to Anthony Valade (oh man, I hope I pronounced your last name correctly!) and Omar Kinnarath, as well as =CF= and another new patron who chose to donate without a reward (i.e. without getting a shoutout on the show or the website). There are no words for what this support means. Thank you so much.

S1 Ep 280WR280: Toba Rock Fest
EWe talk to first-time festival impresarios CJ Loane ([The Bloodshots](http://soundcloud.com/the-bloodshots)) and Ryan Sorensen ([Disraeli Dreamers](http://disraelidreamers.com/)) about their ambitious new event launching this August: [Toba Rock Fest](http://tobarockfest.com/home)! The new festival features the cream of Winnipeg's current rock talent, as well the reunion of 2000s local-rock-icons-gone-international [Jet Set Satellite](http://www.facebook.com/Jet-Set-Satellite-11294107498/), playing their first show in a decade! This episode also features songs by a number of the performers at the inaugural event, including Disraeli Dreamers and the Bloodshots (naturally), as well as fellow past Witchpolice guests [Silence Kit](http://silencekitwpg.bandcamp.com/) and [Solhounds](http://solhounds.bandcamp.com/)! This episode brought to you by the Park Theatre, which is host to [Prairie Diva presents Spring Fever: Burlesque Fusion Cabaret](http://www.facebook.com/events/1597646643653916/), April 27-28!

S1 Ep 279WR279: Skylar Bouchard
EFolk singer-songwriter [Skylar Bouchard](http://www.skylarbouchard.com/) is back on the show (in the semi-civilized setting of Robin's Donuts this time) to talk about the unexpected success of his single ["Montreal"](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK-OjfM7Meo), his upcoming tour of western Canada and much more! Skylar's 2017 debut, 'Tired of the City' was on my best-of-the-year list, and by the sounds of things, he has even more great stuff in the works for the future. This episode brought to you by [Red Moon Road and Hillsburn at the Park Theatre](http://www.facebook.com/events/181874962588396/) (April 18) and by [Low Cloud](http://www.lowcloud.ca/) -- a local, legal online distributor of CBD products. Use our code "CBDWITCH" on their lowcloud.ca website for 15% off your first order.

S1 Ep 278WR278: Ridley Bent
ECountry storyteller [Ridley Bent](http://www.ridleybent.ca/) is back with his first new record in four years, and he sits down to talk about the new album, his band the Killer Tumbleweeds, his impressions on Winnipeg's music scene as an outsider (albeit one who has been living here for about a decade already), and much more! Head down to [the Park Theatre this Thursday (April 5)](http://www.facebook.com/events/2064772493805421/) for the release of the new album, featuring opener [Kevin Roy](http://www.kevinroymusic.com/) (a familiar name to regular Witchpolice listeners)! We also have a bit of a bonus at the end of the show: local record producer and past guest [Jordan Voth](http://jnvoth.com/) hooked us up with a brand new track by [Alone I Walk](http://[[text](http://)](http://)aloneiwalk.bandcamp.com/) from their upcoming LP, 'Wander'. Stay tuned to the end of the podcast to hear it!

S1 Ep 277WR277: Sorrier
EWay back over the Xmas holidays, Winnipeg expat Zac Houston, a/k/a [Sorrier](http://sorrier.bandcamp.com/releases), was back in town (briefly) to do the family thing and sneak in a recording session with superproducer Jordan Voth for his second album. We had a chance to meet up and talk about the new songs, playing acoustically vs. loud punk rock, his previous role fronting emo outfit Boys' Club, and much more! We held off on the release of this episode because he's about to come back to town for a [huge album release show](http://www.facebook.com/events/330092237479233/), which includes one-time Boys' Club reunion! Head down to the new Club St. B on March 31 for that show, which also features Fox Lake and Sit Calm! This episode brought to you by the [Winnipeg Comedy Showcase 4-Year Anniversary](http://www.facebook.com/events/1816043645133279/), March 30 at the Park Theatre, and by [Low Cloud](http://www.lowcloud.ca/) -- a local, legal online distributor of CBD products. Use our code "CBDWITCH" on their lowcloud.ca website for 15% off your first order.

S1 Ep 276WR276: Broose Tulloch
ETwo decades after first picking up the microphone, Broose Tulloch is still going strong on community radio. Currently hosting UMFM's "[Beer For Breakfast](http://beerforbreakfast.fm)" program, Broose has been promoting local bands since some members of those bands were in diapers. He's also the man behind the annual ["Brewno" awards](http://www.facebook.com/events/2087887454756009/) -- an egalitarian way to recognize Winnipeg's musical talent that another, similarly-named national award tends to pass over. This year's Brewnos will be held March 31 at Shannon's Irish Pub, and include six fantastic local artists live on stage! This episode brought to you by [Low Cloud](http://www.lowcloud.ca/) -- a local, legal online distributor of CBD products. Use our code "CBDWITCH" on their lowcloud.ca website for 15% off your first order. Also brought to you by the [CD release show](http://www.facebook.com/events/2064772493805421/) for Ridley Bent and the Killer Tumbleweeds, April 5 at the Park Theatre. Stay tuned for an interview with Ridley on this very podcast in a couple of weeks![[text]

S1 Ep 275WR275: Raine Hamilton
EIt's a quick conversation in a mall food court this week with singer-songwriter [Raine Hamilton](http://www.rainehamilton.com/), right on time for this weekend's release of "Night Sky", her fantastic new record of lush, ethereal chamber-folk ballads with cosmic overtones. We talk about the new record -- which, honestly, is at the top of my list for best local albums in this relatively young 2018 -- and this Saturday's release show, Raine's interest in including sign-language interpreters into the way her music is presented, her (at times) bilingual lyrics, and much more! Stay tuned for an interview with Ridley on this very podcast in a couple of weeks!

S1 Ep 274WR274: Girls With Guitars
EMarch 31 marks the premiere of the film [Girls With Guitars](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btSLuxXIdUQ), a documentary that focuses on the women who make up a vital part of Winnipeg's music scene, specifically its punk community. On this episode, we hang out at a Robin's Donuts with first-time filmmakers (and musicians in their own right) Kalyn Hanuschuk, Cindy Fouillard and Jennifer Norris Wuckert! The screening of the film also includes an [after-party](http://www.facebook.com/events/138319553514615/) featuring live performances by Slattern, Guilt-Trip, Silence Kit, and Katie and the Wolves. This episode is brought to you by [Manitoba Metalfest](http://www.facebook.com/events/1568424073252273/) at the Park Theatre and by our newest partner, [Low Cloud](http://www.lowcloud.ca/) -- a local, legal online distributor of CBD products. Use our code "CBDWITCH" on their lowcloud.ca website for 15% off your first order!

S1 Ep 273WR273: Ronnie Ladobruk
EManitoba's very own guitar virtuoso, [Ronnie Ladobruk](http://www.ronnieladobruk.com/), joins us for an interview over coffee and doughnuts on the latest episode of the podcast. Ronnie talks about his dedication to his craft, his surreal experience competing on reality TV, and the new band he's fronting, [Ronnie Ladobruk and the Electric](http://www.facebook.com/pg/RonnieLadobrukMusic/). Ronnie has a number of shows coming up, both as a member of Southern rock outfit Wreckin' So and as leader of the Electric, including a [headlining St. Patrick's Day gig](http://www.facebook.com/events/1656122721120264/) as part of the spring concert series at The Dramatic Arts Centre. This episode is brought to you by [Manitoba Metalfest at the Park Theatre](http://www.facebook.com/events/1568424073252273/) and by our newest partner, [Low Cloud](http://www.lowcloud.ca/) -- a local, legal online distributor of CBD products. Use our code "CBDWITCH" on their lowcloud.ca website for 15% off your first order!

S1 Ep 272WR272: Gerrit Delaquis
EFolk singer and multi-instrumentalist [Gerrit Delaquis](http://www.facebook.com/pg/gerritdelaquis.strings) may seem like a new face in the local music scene, but he's spent the past four years quietly perfecting his debut album, 'Calm Cloud', which will be released March 10 at Le Garage. Gerrit talks about his obsession with stringed instruments, the development of the record, the punk aesthetic (or not) of his DIY music, and much more! This episode is brought to you by 2018's [Manitoba Metalfest](http://www.facebook.com/events/1568424073252273/), March 16 and 17 at the Park Theatre, feat. artists like Cancer Bats, Demolition Hammer, and a one-time only reunion of Damascus!

S1 Ep 271WR271: Young Media
EAlthough I'm usually heard in audio-only form on this podcast, I've had a couple of opportunities to appear on-camera as part of the [*Mom's House*](http://weareyoungmedia.com/the-moms-house-sessions) YouTube show, which combines interviews with local musicians with exclusive live performances. For this episode of Witchpolice Radio, I returned the favour and interviewed the filmmakers and music fans behind *Mom's House*: [**Young Media**](http://weareyoungmedia.com/young-media). Throughout this episode, you'll hear live performances from past (and future) *Mom's House* guests, including Northern Lights Drive, Chenoa McKelvey, Velveteen and Micah Erenberg with Sophie Stevens. This episode is brought to you by [Cabin Fever Burlesque](http://www.facebook.com/events/143613416289895/), a presentation of the Winnipeg International Burlesque Festival, at the Park Theatre, Feb. 23.

S1 Ep 270WR270: Chuck Copenace
EA conversation with jazz trumpeter [Chuck Copenace](http://www.chuckcopenace.com/) in a busy mall food court (so forgive some of the background sounds). Chuck has been making a name for himself in the local community for his groove-heavy instrumental sounds as well as his outreach to indigenous youth in Manitoba. He's also headed to a jazz festival in Guatemala to bring his music to an entirely new audience, but before he goes, he's playing a set [this Friday](http://www.facebook.com/events/197970894091642/) at Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art Gallery. This episode is brought to you by our friends at the Park Theatre, who are presenting [An Evening of Jazz Song](http://myparktheatre.com/event-calendar/8pm-amber-epp-heitha-forsyth/) featuring Amber Epp and Heitha Forsyth on Sunday, March 4; and by [Record Sundaze](http://www.facebook.com/events/396212277496619/), Feb. 18 at PEG Beer Co., featuring Dub Ditch Records, Eye and Ear Control, Eat 'Em Up Records, and Electric Heat Records.

S1 Ep 269WR269: 15th Anniversary Tribute to Joe Strummer and The Clash
EPublic service announcement (with guitar): today is International Clash Day, so I can't think of a better time to release this week's episode, which focuses on Saturday's [15th Anniversary Tribute to Joe Strummer and The Clash](http://www.facebook.com/events/163999037690190/)! We hung out at a doughnut shop with event organizers Ian Lodewyks and Ben Rodecker, both of whom have long been involved with the Strummer tribute events -- Ian as a member of [Sub City](http:///www.facebook.com/SubCity-Dwellers-6034099373/) and Ben as a member of [The Crackdown](http://thecrackdown.bandcamp.com/releases). They're both performing at the tribute this year as well. Ian's part of an all-Clash tribute act called Guns of Wolseley, and Ben's back with a newly-reunited Crackdown, almost a decade after their initial breakup. The show also features Selkirk's finest, The Farrell Bros., as well as The Murder Birds. This episode is brought to you by a special Valentine's Day screening of [Birdemic: Shock and Terror](http://www.facebook.com/events/408106542977972/), presented by our friends at the Park Theatre alongside CINEFILE and hosted by comedian Tyler Penner.

S1 Ep 268WR268: Stacey James
EWe dive into the R&B/funk/soul/blues/rock/pop amalgam that is local singer-songwriter [Stacey James](http://www.staceyjameswriter.com/)! Stacey talks about her roots in Winnipeg's hip-hop scene, her involvement with the annual [Women Helping Women](http://www.facebook.com/pg/womenhelpingwomenevent/) fundraiser, her upcoming album, and much more! This week's episode brought to you by [Romes at the Park Theatre with the Wild Homes and Robojom](http://www.facebook.com/events/2016055845295603/), Feb. 11. If you like this podcast, please support it at patreon.com/witchpolice. Thanks to all of our patrons so far, including our most recent supporter, Gerrit Delaquis!

S1 Ep 267WR267: Quoth the Sun
EThis week's a heavy episode, as we sit down with all five members of groove-metal act [Quoth the Sun](http://quoththesun.bandcamp.com/releases). We dig into their take on the local metal scene, plus their origins (including the name), their upcoming album, and the slow-burn in between. This week's episode is brought to you by our friends at the Park Theatre, who are hosting the second and final [fundraiser for Manitoba Metalfest 2018](http://www.facebook.com/events/2015640112050912/) on Friday, Jan. 26. The show features acts like Serrated Scalpel, Flash Out, Exuvium, Inhumed and Scythra, and all proceeds go toward keeping the festival alive. Please note: we lost about 10-15 minutes of this interview during the recording process due to a problem with the recorder, so if anything is confusing, it's probably a reference to something said during the part that didn't get captured. (Sorry!)

S1 Ep 266WR266: Panicland
EThey may be one of the youngest acts we've ever had on the podcast, but they're already one of the most popular. Up-and-coming pop foursome [Panicland](http://www.panicland.net/) have leveraged an innate understanding of 21st century music consumption, a busy social media regimen, and sweet, sweet hooks into huge success so far... and they're only getting started. E3Peat rapper **[E.GG](https://eggnmx.bandcamp.com/)** is back again, seemingly out of nowhere, with the release of his masterful new record, _[Est. 1873](https://eggnmx.bandcamp.com/album/est-1873)_. We talk with E.GG and producer **Rayny** about the making of the record, its heavy Winnipeg focus, and the album's 'winter' vibe when contrasted with E.GG's Alverstone. S1 Ep 257WR257: Twitchitt
EA doughnut shop is probably the last place you'd expect to find dark synthpop artist [Twitchitt](https://twitchitt.com/), but that's where we met up for an on-the-fly interview on the latest episode of the podcast. Twitchitt just released her second full-length, #AlchemicalWarfare, so we talk about the new record and much, much more! This episode brought to you by the return of Record Sundaze, featuring Dub Ditch Picnic, Eat Em Up Records, Electric Heat Records, and Eye and Ear Control. Nov. 19 at PEG Beer Co.

S1 Ep 256WR256: Krazy Madness
EIt's [Krazy Madness](https://www.facebook.com/KrazyMadnessband/)! The local hair metal enthusiasts talk about the band's roots as a family project, their undying love for the genre, their 10 years in the trenches and much more! This episode brought to you by the return of Record Sundaze, featuring Dub Ditch Picnic, Eat Em Up Records, Electric Heat Records, and Eye and Ear Control. Nov. 19 at PEG Beer Co.

S1 Ep 255WR255: Live at Torque Brewing with Laura Artus, Nic Dyson and JayWood
EOn Oct. 1, Witchpolice Radio took to the stage at **[Torque Brewing](https://torquebrewing.beer/) ** for our first live podcast in almost a year. This episode was called _Mutual Appreciation Society_ , and the premise was that we had three local musicians on the show to talk about songwriting and (more importantly) cover each other's songs! Because the sound equipment for this event was kind of MacGyvered together (huge thanks to **UMFM** for the mics!), the audio quality is, to be honest, not great, but that kind of goes with the territory on a live podcast. The songs -- by **Laura Artus** , **[Nic Dyso](https://nicdysonmusic.bandcamp.com/)n** and **[JayWood](https://jaywood1.bandcamp.com/) ** \-- sound awesome, though. Thanks to our awesome guests for stepping out of their comfort zones and covering songs by artists they'd never heard before. Thanks to everyone who came out, and a huge thanks to Adam at Torque for letting us use such a fantastic venue for the show! **...and if you like Torque, be sure to check out their Brew Ha Ha comedy event at the brewery on Nov. 7, plus the release of their Rabbit Punch black IPA on Nov. 14!** If you like this podcast, please support it. At [our Patreon page](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice), you can help us keep pumping out quality podcasts about the Winnipeg music scene for as little as $1 a month. Huge thanks to all of our patrons!

S1 Ep 254WR254: Minus 40
EReports of ska's death have been greatly exaggerated. New-on-the-scene Winnipeg act [Minus 40](https://www.facebook.com/Minus40MB/) are proudly waving the third-wave flag in 2017! We talked to them about the upcoming Fear the Skanking Dead show (Oct. 27 at the Windsor), how they got into the genre in the first place, and much more. Since Minus 40 doesn't have any official recordings yet, you'll hear a bunch of live stuff (from one of their previous gigs) throughout this recording. If you like this podcast, please support it. At patreon.com/witchpolice, you can help us keep pumping out quality podcasts about the Winnipeg music scene for as little as $1 a month. Huge thanks to all of our patrons, including the latest contributor, Mike K. Pascucci!

S1 Ep 253WR253: Jordan Voth
EWe're hanging out on the rooftop of a parking garage with producer [Jordan Voth](http://jnvoth.com/), best-known for his work on albums and singles by some of the leading lights in Winnipeg's punk scene. He's also a member of (recently-resurrected) melodic punk outfit [Bleed American](https://bleedamerican.bandcamp.com/). This episode features songs Jordan has produced, including tracks by Bleed American, The Honour, Nice Cops and Occvlt Hand! ...and don't forget, there are still a few days left to support UMFM's Pledge-O-Rama fund drive! Call 204-474-6610 or visit [umfm.com](http://umfm.com/) before Oct. 20 to help support Winnipeg's best resource for local musicians.

S1 Ep 252WR252: Odd Outfit
EThis week's guests are experimental psychedelic jazz-fusion instrumental (that's already a mouthful, plus they throw 'shoegaze' in there somewhere) group [Odd Outfit](https://oddoutfit.bandcamp.com/releases). We talk about their excellent debut release, Up/Down (Aug. 2017), their experiences as a jazz-rooted band with little connection to the local jazz scene, and much more! This episode is brought to you by the first-annual Winnipeg Weekender; two nights of live music, DJs and comedy presented by (among others) our friend, UMFM DJ Aaron "The Invisible Man" Young. The show happens Oct. 21 and 22 at the Pyramid Cabaret and the Yellow Dog Tavern.

S1 Ep 251WR251: Odder than the Otters
EWe're in a pool room* this week with folk-rock foursome [Odder Than the Otters](https://www.odderthantheotters.com/), who have a debut EP, 'The Port of Lopez' slated for release in early 2018. We talk about the band's roots, the concept that loosely connects the songs on the upcoming EP, and more! This episode brought to you by the new line of beer soap by local punks The Uglies and Little Tree Hugger Soap! *A garage with a pool table in it.

S1 Ep 250WR250: Skylar Bouchard
EWe avoided being murdered when we met up with singer-songwriter [Skylar Bouchard](https://www.skylarbouchard.com/) in a terrifying, pitch-black park to record this episode. Skylar is on the verge of releasing his debut EP (Thursday, Sept. 28), so he talks about the recording process, his work as a member of Two Socks, and much more. Hear a few advance cuts from the EP throughout the episode!

S1 Ep 249WR249: Solhounds
E"Heavy metal grunge" rockers Solhounds (well, half of them, anyway) are back on the podcast for the first time since 2015. In that time, they've made some significant changes to their sound and their lineup, and they talk about how everything is falling into place for the new, improved version of the band. Solhounds performs live for the first time since taking a summer hiatus on Sept. 22 at the Good Will in Winnipeg.

S1 Ep 248WR248: Fawnchopper
EWe're in the back of a van this week with progressive metal outfit **[Fawnchopper](https://www.facebook.com/fawnchopperband)**. The three-piece, which has a new album in the works, talks about its origins as a solo "being a spaz in an apartment" project, its current solidified lineup, and much more. You can catch Fawnchopper live Sept. 15 at the Merch in Selkirk and Sept. 17 at the Good Will here in Winnipeg.

S1 Ep 247WR247: Mira Black
EThis week's episode features Winnipeg expat **[Mira Black](http://mirablack.com/)** , back in town to present her epic ['Fearless' ](https://www.facebook.com/events/1440271579367370)show Sept. 10 at the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain. Mira talks about the story behind the ambitious project, her history in the local music scene (as frontwoman for '90s roots outfit **Acoustically Inclined** ), her collaborations with some of Winnipeg's finest jazz artists and much, much more!

S1 Ep 246WR246: field////
EOn this episode, experimental/improvisational art collective [field////](https://www.facebook.com/Field-537162849633762/) invited us to the Graffiti Gallery to witness their creation first-hand. While rotating through a pile of instruments -- from horns to found objects to feedback -- field//// works on a timed grid system rather than any traditional songwriting structure.

S1 Ep 245WR245: p o u t
EThis week, we hang out with Brandon, Brandan and Ariana of experimental 'soft trap' outfit [p o u t](https://www.facebook.com/babydontpout)! The trio recently released the excellent _[Nylon Tears](https://dontpout.bandcamp.com/album/nylon-tears "Link: https://dontpout.bandcamp.com/album/nylon-tears")_ , and we talk about the album, the group's origins, their distinctive DIY visual style and more!

S1 Ep 244WR244: Agapito
EThey're back! Our friends in Winnipeg supergroup [Agapito](https://agapito.bandcamp.com/releases) have been busy since their last appearance on the show [(Dec. 2016)](https://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/34d1d3f7db8214/). Most notably, they hit the studio and released a three-song, self-titled demo. We talk about all kinds of nonsense, but on-topic, we get into the recording and songwriting processes, the future of the band, and the difficulties that arise with a band made up (mostly) of people who play in other bands. Hunk rock!

S1 Ep 243WR243: Screaming at Traffic
EArising like a phoenix (or whatever stupid analogy you want to use) from the ashes of Greek Riots comes [Screaming at Traffic](https://www.facebook.com/pg/screamingattrafficmusic), a punk band with a unique take on the style. We sat down (outside, in Wolseley) with Paul (bass) and Duncan (one of S.A.T.'s two frontmen/guitarists) to talk about their [new EP](https://screamingattrafficmusic.bandcamp.com/album/s-a-t), their place in the Winnipeg music scene, and a whole bunch of crazy tangents. Click, click.

S1 Ep 242WR242: Spacebutt
EWe talk cats, music videos, impossible-to-define genres and more with local "grunge funk" (perhaps not a real genre, just sayin') weirdos [Spacebutt](https://spacebutt.bandcamp.com/). They're about to[ release their debut album](https://www.facebook.com/events/472831036403827) \-- the amazingly-titled _All The Deer Speak Portuguese -- _on [Last Ditch Records](http://www.lastditchrecords.ca/artists/spacebutt/) Aug. 26 at the Cavern!

S1 Ep 241WR241: Ogimaa
EThe podcast hasn't been this heavy in quite a while. This week's guests are new-on-the-scene doom trio **[Ogimaa](https://ogimaa.bandcamp.com/)** , who have been generating buzz thanks to their excellent debut EP _[Desolation](https://ogimaa.bandcamp.com/releases)_. The surprisingly (based on their music) soft-spoken band members talk about the origins of the band (and their unique name), the EP, how receptive Winnipeg is to such a punishing style, and more!

S1 Ep 240WR240: The Bloodshots
EThis week, we're joined by all four members of Selkirk, MB's **[The Bloodshots](https://www.facebook.com/thebloodshots204/)**! They blend elements of punk and blues into a blast of straight-ahead rock n' roll. Coming off a recent nomination at 2017's [Indigenous Music Awards](https://www.indigenousmusicawards.com/nominees/view,profile/211), the Bloodshots have been making a name for themselves as an opening act for high-profile rock acts. Check 'em out July 20 (that's _tomorrow_ ) on a bill with Buckcherry at Club Regent Casino!

S1 Ep 239WR239: Disraeli Dreamers
ELocal indie rock gang **[Disraeli Dreamers](https://disraelidreamers.com/)** are on the show this week. The five-piece band (which rose from the ashes of the on-hiatus **[Tin Can Bandits](https://tincanbandits.bandcamp.com/)** ) performs live, talks about its members' varied musical backgrounds, their debut EP, _ [The Lucid](https://disraelidreamers.bandcamp.com/releases)_ , and more! Catch the Dreamers at the Howl at the Moon Country Music Festival (being presented by friend of the show **[Greg Arcade](http://gregarcade.com/)** , at Hilltop Resort over the August long weekend.

S1 Ep 238WR238: Keith Price Double Quartet
EThis week's guests are jazz guitarist **[Keith Price](http://www.keithprice.ca/)** and pianist **[Jeff Presslaff](http://www.jeffpresslaff.com/)** , both members of the **[Keith Price Double Quartet](https://keithprice1.bandcamp.com/track/riot)** , whose new self-titled album is one of the best local releases of the year so far. Tackling jazz on this show is always interesting, and Keith and Jeff cover a lot of the bases when it comes to improvising with a group of this size, the recording process and more! On the heels of its successful album release at the 2017 **[Jazz Winnipeg](http://jazzwinnipeg.com/keith-price-double-quartet/)** festival, the Double Quartet's next stop is Aug. 19 at **Rainbow Trout**.

S1 Ep 237WR237: FF1
EFirst off, a disclaimer: this isn't a political show. We've been interviewing local musicians since 2012, and even when we stray from that topic, it's always tied in to the local scene, and this is no exception. This week, our guests are **Omar Kinnarath** and **Ryan Nash** of **[Fascist-Free Treaty 1](https://www.facebook.com/fascistfree1/) ** (or **FF1** ). They're veterans of the local punk/hardcore scene (Ryan is a regular guest on the show with his band **[Union Stockyards](https://unionstockyards.bandcamp.com/)** ) who are leading the fight against racism on the streets of Winnipeg. We talk about how coming up in the local punk scene helped solidify their political views and values, and how the inclusive attitude of Winnipeg's DIY punk rock continues to inform what they do. When I teased this episode a few weeks ago, I got a raft of negative comments on social media from white nationalists, Islamophobes, and assorted 'alt-right' types -- many of whom weren't even _Canadian_ , let alone from Winnipeg -- so this is just a heads-up that there's going to be zero tolerance for that shit going forward. If you don't like some of the ideas floated in this episode, take it up directly with FF1. This podcast, and its associated social media, is not a forum to spread hatred. It's an interview show. About music. Next week there's a completely apolitical discussion about jazz, for example. Any bullshit comments will be deleted and commenters will be banned and reported. With that out of the way... in fitting with our usual format, there are songs sprinkled throughout the episode. These are all from local bands (including **[Propagandhi](https://propagandhi.com/)** , **[I-Spy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXgGqYpZzVg), [Rogue Nation](https://www.facebook.com/Rogue-Nation-143067199084050/)** and **[Whole Lotta Milka](http://www.unionlabelgroup.com/bands/64/whole-lotta-milka/)** ) and all deal with the topics being raised on the episode.

S1 Ep 236Re-release: Dead Ranch (2014)
bonusEOn June 8, the Winnipeg music scene lost a friend. Chad Alsop, guitarist/vocalist of sludge/metal/hardcore/whatever-core act Dead Ranch passed a few days after sustaining serious injuries. (You can read more about Chad in this [beautifully-written post on Dead Ranch's Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/deadranch/posts/2046928851999929)). In addition to his contributions as 1/4 of one of Winnipeg's best bands, Chad was also a familiar face in Witchpoliceland. He appeared on the podcast with Dead Ranch twice (most recently back in April) and was a key member of our first-ever Big Mix-Up band at the Park Theatre in 2016. When Chad first appeared on the podcast in spring 2014, Witchpolice was still starting to get off the ground, so a lot of newer listeners likely haven't heard it. It was recorded in former co-host Jon's basement (a/k/a The Blanket Fort), and it followed the old 'song selection' format the show used to have. We'll be back next week (or maybe even sooner...I might double-up on episodes this week if I have time) with some fresh content from 2017, but for now, enjoy this one from the archives. RIP Chad. You'll be missed. (Support Chad's memorial fund: )
