S1 Ep 485WR485: Ayden Lambert

E

A card-carrying member of the 'Internet weirdos club', Portage la Prairie’s [Ayden Lambert](http://aydenlambert.bandcamp.com/) is on the show to talk about his industrial/hip-hop/spoken word tinged experimental music, and much more! We talk about his experience growing up in a country town playing music that is anything but, his dreams of a visual-heavy live show, post-quarantine, of course, and plenty of other topics. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/). Buy a gift card to help keep them afloat during these difficult times! Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on [Patreon](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice). You can help out for as little as $1 a month if you like the show and want to throw some change in the guitar case!

S1 Ep 484WR484: Mouth Feel

E

...so as some of you may have heard, I lost an entire episode the other day. The file was corrupted and despite multiple efforts, I could only recover 0:20 of it. The original podcast was a great conversation with two members of local punks [Mouth Feel](http://mouthfeelwpg.bandcamp.com/)... and while I can’t present that to you anymore, here's a quick chat with bassist/vocalist Matt, in a zombie podcast episode that also includes a stream of the entire [new Mouth Feel record](http://https://mouthfeelwpg.bandcamp.com/album/mouthfeel). I guess that’s sort of a win. Anyway, thanks to the band for their patience, and a big fuck you to my memory card for destroying the original file. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/). Buy a gift card to help keep them afloat during these difficult times! S1 Ep 483WR483: Uncle Sinner

E

It's an interview with 'purveyor of the primordial stomp', death-country singer-songwriter [Uncle Sinner](http://unclesinner.bandcamp.com/). You haven't heard of him, but you really, really should. We talked about his [excellent new record](http://unclesinner.bandcamp.com/album/trouble-of-this-world), the traditional inspiration behind his songwriting, why he isn’t better-known at home in Winnipeg, and much more! This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/). Buy a gift card to help keep them afloat during these difficult times! S1 Ep 482WR482: Ed Wayne

E

It's the [return](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr430-ed-wayne-37db5d10d4989c/) of rural country singer-songwriter [Ed Wayne](http://www.edwaynemusic.com/) to the podcast! Ed just released a new album -- a tribute to the legendary Don Williams. We talk about releasing a record in the middle of a pandemic, about Ed's weekly live-streamed performances from his garage, and a whole lot more. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/). Buy a gift card to help keep them afloat during these difficult times! S1 Ep 481WR481: Mooki and Anthony Carvalho

E

It's a new episode with West End rapper [Mooki](http://www.instagram.com/mookiwitnoe/), alongside [4th Quarter Records](http://linktr.ee/fourthquarterrecords) majordomo Anthony Carvalho. We talked about Mooki’s brand new [BBS Steve-produced tape](http://fourthquarterrecords.bandcamp.com/album/mooki-tape), about his background in the local breakdancing scene, and much more. There are a few audio glitches on this one — a hazard of doing remote interviews, and I’m about due, as the last few have been pretty flawless — but the conversation was very interesting and worth your time. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/). Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on [Patreon](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice). S1 Ep 480WR480: SeanGeek

E

I linked up with the McGinity brothers from Winnipeg's [SeanGeek Podcast](http://seanmcginity.ca/) for an episode! We talked about their long-running show, their background in the local music scene (I was initially supposed to interview them years ago about their band [Dome](http://seanmcginity.ca/dome-band), but the band broke up before the podcast happened), hate mail, and a whole lot more! If this is your first episode of Witchpolice Radio... please note that we don't usually get so 'inside baseball' about podcasting -- but this is a fun interview that covers that as well as their involvement in Winnipeg music. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), and by [Trevor Fisher](http://www.linkedin.com/in/fishertrevor) of Way2Wealth Management. Huge thanks to everyone who supports the podcast on [Patreon](http://www.patreon.com/witchpolice). S1 Ep 479WR479: Anne-Marie Williot

E

Happy quarantine! Here's an interview with singer-songwriter-accordionist [Anne-Marie Williot](http://www.manitobamusic.com/annemariewilliot), alongside bassist/tuba player/etc. Ian Cherry. We talked about Anne-Marie’s excellent new record, [Cheval Géant](https://annemariewilliot.bandcamp.com/), which was intended to be released at a big show with a full eight-piece band. Instead, due to social distancing, Anne-Marie and Ian are playing the full album on [Facebook live tonight](http://[[text](http://[text](http://))](http://)www.facebook.com/events/839519293213391/) (assuming you're listening to this on the day it comes out)! S1 Ep 478WR478: Ian Krochak

E

Social isolation continues, so here's an interview with Americana/folk/country singer-songwriter [Ian Krochak](http://www.iankrochakmusic.com/), from Niverville, Man. We talk about his [new single](http://iankrochakmusic.hearnow.com/), how the pandemic has affected his musical career, recording after a decade-long hiatus, music in rural Manitoba, and much more! This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), and by [Trevor Fisher](http://www.linkedin.com/in/fishertrevor) of Way2Wealth Management. S1 Ep 477WR477: Nugget

E

Still here, still on lockdown. This episode is a remote conversation with Sean and Daniel from local prog weirdos [Nugget](http://nugget204.bandcamp.com/). We talk about their technically adventurous, experimental two-piece sound, the way they’re dealing with the pandemic, scatting (surprisingly important to the Nugget writing process), and much more. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), and by [Better Homes for Meaner People](http://betterhomesformeanerpeople.bandcamp.com/releases). S1 Ep 476WR476: Solanum

E

I talked metal and quarantine and more with Cam McFee, frontman of Winnipeg's [Solanum](http://solanum-crossover.bandcamp.com/), who have a new record, *Ruled by the Cruel* on the horizon (hear a couple of tracks on this episode)! It's a really fun conversation, but with these remote calls, I *really* need to remember to ask my guests to wear headphones! It's definitely still listenable, but there are times when my voice bleeds through a bit and echoes all over time and space. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), and by [Better Homes for Meaner People](http://betterhomesformeanerpeople.bandcamp.com/releases). S1 Ep 475WR475: Len Bowen

E

...so this isn't your regular podcast episode. It's actually an interview I did the other day on Instagram live with Winnipeg rap legend [Len Bowen](http://www.instagram.com/lenbowen_music/). Because I record everything, of course I recorded this too, and here it is in podcast form. It was an interesting experiment and a fun conversation with one of Winnipeg’s finest about his upcoming new project, his work with local hip-hop icons [Shadez](http://soundcloud.com/lenbowenmusic/shadez-ov-blac-comprehension-xx-anniversary-edition-mixed-by-dj-swift), and a whole lot more. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), and by [Trevor Fisher](http://www.linkedin.com/in/fishertrevor) of Way2Wealth Management. S1 Ep 474WR474: Derek Kun

E

One of the first local punk bands I ever got into, back in the ‘90s, was Guy Smiley – and I never really stopped listening to them ever since. This episode is an interview with [Guy Smiley](http://epitaph.com/artists/guy-smiley/bio) frontman [Derek Kun](http://soundcloud.com/user-972004597-129956681), who went on to front Burnthe8track and is currently working on new material of his own. …and Derek has lots of stories from his heavy-touring career. Don’t be surprised if I have him on the podcast for a part two! This episode is brought to you by our friends at the [Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), by StevO and the [Beer Boutique](http://www.facebook.com/beerboutiquewpg/), and by [Book of Ghosts](http://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Musician-Band/Book-Of-Ghosts-113180690050815/). S1 Ep 473WR473: House of Wonders

E

It's a self-isolated chat with [Yes We Mystic](http://yeswemystic.bandcamp.com/)'s Adam Fuhr, all about his brand new record label, [House of Wonders](http://houseofwonders.online/), the label’s first release (by Amos the Kid)... and much more! Thankfully we managed to get this one recorded and in the bag mere minutes before my memory card ran out of space! This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), by [Trevor Fisher](http://www.linkedin.com/in/fishertrevor) of Way2Wealth Management, and by [Book of Ghosts](http://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Musician-Band/Book-Of-Ghosts-113180690050815/). S1 Ep 472WR472: Andrina Turenne

E

Quarantine-cast continues! Here's a fantastic remote conversation with singer-songwriter [Andrina Turenne](http://www.instagram.com/drunita/)! You may know her from past projects like [Chic Gamine](http://chicgamine.bandcamp.com/), Madrigaïa or Rudimental, but Andrina is now working on new solo material she’s excited about putting out in the world. We talked about the new music, about being a working musician during a pandemic, about being a bilingual artist and performing French music in a region where it’s a minority language, and much more. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), by StevO and the [Beer Boutique](http://www.facebook.com/beerboutiquewpg/), and by [Book of Ghosts](http://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Musician-Band/Book-Of-Ghosts-113180690050815/). S1 Ep 471WR471: mcenroe

E

...so quarantine means I’m not doing in-person interviews for the next little while, but doing remotes DOES give me an opportunity to talk to people out-of-town that I’ve always wanted to have on the podcast. Here's a new one with Winnipeg rap icon and [Peanuts & Corn](http://peanutsandcorn.bandcamp.com/) boss man [mcenroe](http://peanutsandcorn.bandcamp.com/album/burnt-orange), live and direct from his home in BC. Stay tuned for a conversation about P&C’s past, present and future, and much more! If you like this episode, you might dig [episode #466](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr466-yy-3840c63dd586c6/) with Yy. Want a 15-second ad on the show for YOUR project? Because of the quarantine, I'm doing 'em for local indie artists for $5 a pop. Enquire within. Broose – whose egalitarian local awards show is still scheduled for [April 4 at Shannon’s](http://www.facebook.com/events/208732247164287/), despite the corona-apocalypse raging outside – talks about the DIY nature of the long-running event, and much more. …and don’t forget: you can help choose the BREWNO nominees by [voting online now](http://esurv.org/online-survey.php?surveyID=MCOILI_f2a79d91)! S1 Ep 469WR469: Nic Dyson

E

It's a lovely remote interview with 'acoustic sad' singer-songwriter [Nic Dyson](http://nicdysonmusic.bandcamp.com/), all about his punk background, his highly emotional, personal songwriting, his upcoming (full band!!) record, and a whole heap more. This episode was a long time coming and I’m glad we made it happen. Nic made an appearance on a [previous live episode](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr255-live-at-torque-brewing-with-laura-artus-nic-dyson-and-jaywood-35a1aa163134e4/), but this is the first time he's sat down for a formal interview on the show. Winnipeg punk frontman Alex Guidry sat down for a quick chat about the triumphant return of [Elder Abuse](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr229-elder-abuse-350d1ecac1a770L/) (who never technically went away) as well as what’s going on with [Nice Cops](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr335-nice-cops-36cdcc71d0a3a6/) these days, and a bunch of other skate-punk related stuff! (Shoutout to [Jordan Voth](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr441-jordan-voth-37f9406705bfbe/) for pointing out that Alex looks like an off-brand Post Malone) This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/). …and local electronic artist [Tape_Worm](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr432-tape-worm-37e019ce319736/), who is playing his [first-ever live show](http://www.facebook.com/events/2618292545056821/) at the Osborne Underground March 19 – a gig which also serves as the [Vagina Witchcraft](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr427-vagina-witchcraft-37d2b89d47ea04/) tour kickoff and includes past Witchpolice guest [Paige Drobot](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr376-paige-drobot-37461d930714ac/) as well! S1 Ep 463WR463: Murder Capital

E

Tried something new on the podcast. Couldn’t make an in-person interview happen with gnarly new local metal/hardcore outfit [Murder Capital](http://murdercapital204.bandcamp.com/), so I recorded, essentially, a conference call with three of them instead. I’ve had a lot of success with recording one-on-one phoners in recent months, but this was definitely something new. I think it worked. Listen to the episode to find out just how well. Great band, by the way. Their new EP, [*The Mortality Model*](http://murdercapital204.bandcamp.com/album/the-mortality-model), is absolutely deadly. E

“Avant-prog” outfit [Cantor Dust](http://cantordust.com/) is about to release a fantastic new album, *Too Many Stars*. S1 Ep 459WR459: Hearing Trees

It’s been years since Graham Hnatiuk of thought-provoking indie rockers [Hearing Trees](http://www.hearingtrees.org/) was on the show, but they have an excellent new single and video (“[Bones](http://hearingtrees.bandcamp.com/track/bones)”) out now and are about to head back out on tour... so it seemed like a good time. S1 Ep 457In memoriam: John B. Duff

E

(This episode was originally released in August 2015) I’ll be the first to admit I’m not very hip to the local comedy scene, but way back in 2015, [we did an episode](http://witchpolice.com/e/wr141-oddblock-comedy-festival-354033ed1f98a2L/) about the then-new Oddblock Comedy Festival. One of the guests on that episode was comedian John B. Duff. You may have heard that John passed away from cancer recently, so I’m re-releasing this episode. I barely knew him, but he was a really funny guy, and – based on all the tributes I’ve been seeing on social media over the past few days – clearly a huge figure in the local community. Please note this is in the old format of the show, and the audio quality is godawful, but I think it’s important to re-release episodes when guests pass (which is happening entirely too often lately). I hope you enjoy this episode despite its (many) technical flaws. Fuck cancer. RIP Mr. Duff.

We talk about his latest record,'Plaid is the New Black', his experience recording in Nashville, plans for the future, and being told he’s “too old”... but doing it anyway. ...and yes, I said "singer-songer" in the intro. Greg has been a delight to talk to ever since I first met him back in the ‘90s, and he’s one of those people who is welcome on the podcast anytime. I can only dream about hustling as hard – and having such a positive attitude – with this podcast as Greg Motha Fuckin’ Rekus does with his music. S1 Ep 447In memoriam: Kelly Fraser

E

You may have heard the news that Nunavut-raised, Manitoba-based pop singer [Kelly Fraser](http://www.kellyfrasermusic.com/) has passed away. It’s heartbreaking to hear. She was so young, so talented, and her dedication to sharing/preserving her traditional culture and language was (and still is) super inspiring. My interview with Kelly from early in 2019 was hands-down one of the best conversations I’ve had on the podcast over the entire run of the show. I didn’t know Kelly well beyond our hangout for the podcast and some occasional Facebook conversations (mostly about music) in the time since, but she was definitely someone who was going places. She already had a Juno nomination under her belt and was working on music that clearly had a lot of personal meaning on top of being a big ‘fuck you’ to the system. I really hope the ‘Decolonize’ record comes out in some form. I know Kelly was crowdfunding to make that happen. Here's a replay of that January interview. Hopefully people hear it and then check out her music and her activism if they haven't already. There's a fundraiser for Kelly's family to cover funeral costs, etc.: [https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-kelly-frasers-sisters](http://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-kelly-frasers-sisters)

S1 Ep 446WR446: KEN mode (2014) From the Archives

E

When I transferred the huge Witchpolice archive over to the current hosting site, about 50 episodes from 2013-14 got missed. Although they’ve always been available, buried on the old Witchpolice site, they’ve never been formally discoverable on podcast platforms like Spotify or Apple Podcasts. So here's another archival episode, originally released as #71, featuring Jesse Matthewson of Winnipeg noise rockers [KEN mode](http://www.ken-mode.com/). The interview took place shortly before they hit the studio to record their *Success* LP. NOTE: In the intro I say this was 2015 (and on the cover image), but upon further research, it was actually from 2014. Oops. At the time this episode originally came out, Witchpolice Radio had a very different format. We (I wasn’t the only host!) weren’t only interviewing local musicians, but were asking them to select songs from their own record collections based on randomly-generated theme words. Due to the sketchy legality of broadcasting other people’s songs without permission, the selections are edited out of this episode, but it’s still a great conversation, and was one of my favourites of the early years of the podcast. KEN mode is definitely a band I'd love to get back on the podcast, especially in the current interview-specific format, so I'll have to work on making that happen again soon. Enjoy. This episode is brought to you by our pals at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), as well as the [Beer Boutique](http://www.facebook.com/beerboutiquewpg/), managed by Winnipeg punk mainstay StevO Nelson.

S1 Ep 442WR442: Ryan McMahon

E

This episode is a fascinating conversation with podcaster, comedian and (although he doesn’t consider himself one) investigative journalist [Ryan McMahon](http://www.rmcomedy.com/). His podcast [Thunder Bay](http://www.canadalandshow.com/shows/thunder-bay/) (produced with Canadaland) is one of the best deep-dives into the dark underbelly of a city that I’ve ever heard, and there’s a sequel on the way, plus he has a pile of other projects on the go. I know my show is nominally about music, but regular listeners will know I LOVE nerding out about podcasting, so this is definitely in my wheelhouse. Be warned: we’re going to record a part two. We had to cut this interview a bit short, and there was a lot more to talk about. This episode is brought to you by our pals at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), as well as the [Beer Boutique](http://www.facebook.com/beerboutiquewpg/), managed by Winnipeg punk mainstay [StevO Nelson](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/wr440-stevo-nelson-37f6eda874119e/).

In-demand Winnipeg producer [Jordan Voth](http://jnvoth.ca/) has a busy schedule working with local artists and putting his unique sonic stamp on their (mainly) punk, hardcore, emo and metal records. He's back on the show for the first time in a couple of years to talk about his huge list of 2019 releases – including projects for bands like [Waster](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/wr354-waster-370672e9cf2056/), [Screaming at Traffic](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/wr416-screaming-at-traffic-37b4e1a289a944/), [Nice Cops](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/wr335-nice-cops-36cdcc71d0a3a6/), and more – and what he's looking forward to in 2020. We also touch on Jordan's own band, Bleed American, as well as his inexplicable love for the Toronto Maple Leafs and his thoughts on the whole Mike Babcock situation (which was fresh news when we recorded the interview), as well as the social reckoning hockey seems to be having in general. This episode is brought to you by our pals at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), as well as [the Beer Boutique](http://www.facebook.com/beerboutiquewpg/), managed by Winnipeg punk mainstay [StevO Nelson](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/wr440-stevo-nelson-37f6eda874119e/). S1 Ep 440WR440: StevO Nelson

E

StevO Nelson (of bands like [Clipwing](http://clipwing.bandcamp.com/) and [In2Months](http://in2months.bandcamp.com/)) is a well-known name in Winnipeg's punk scene, dating back to the '90s, but he's splitting his time these days between punk rock and becoming the city's newest beer baron. StevO has become as into the craft beer scene as he is about punk music, and he's currently running things down at [the Beer Boutique](http://www.facebook.com/beerboutiquewpg/). This interview is a conversation, recorded at the store, where StevO talks about his bands' current and upcoming projects, as well as his passion for beer and why he feels as strongly as he does about the new gig slinging beer. Full disclosure: I'm not a drinker, and alcohol is not a subject I know a lot about, but Steve sold the idea to me because he sees a lot of comparisons between DIY punk rock and the burgeoning independent craft beer industry. The songs on this episodes are by some of his various bands over the years, and I even snuck an Insanely Unsound track circa 1998 in there too! Shoutout to my inexplicable and infuriating adult-onset stutter for showing up all over this episode (sorry). This episode brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/) and, of course, by the Beer Boutique, which StevO is so excited about that he paid out of his own pocket for a bunch of ads on upcoming episodes.

We talk about that community they've developed, the inspirations behind [*Dill Demo*](http://fourthquarterrecords.bandcamp.com/album/dill-demo), and a lot more. Dill has been on a few other episodes as a member of the group, but this is the first time I've had a one-on-one conversation with him in any capacity, and it's an interesting discussion about an artist whose solo work is strikingly unique while retaining elements of where he comes from.
