Taleb shows us that the unpredictable, high impact events are the most consequential parts in culture and in your life. Although the world is ran by unpredictable events, it doesn't mean we can't benefit from them. S3 Ep 156Pre-Suasion

E

Pre-Suasion - by Robert Cialdini'A revolutionary way to influence and persuade' After his 1984 masterpiece 'Influence', Robert Cialdini brings us his second book: Pre-Suasion. Influence was all about the CONTENT of your message, whereas Pre-Suasion shows us that it's also important to manage the CONTEXT. The secret doesn't just lie in the message itself, but in the interactions before the message is delivered. You will learn the 'single chute question' for the recipient to hunt for confirmations, how the 'focusing illusion' is used by the media to create irrationally disproportionate fear with the news, and a three stage process to persuade in any situation using the six weapons of influence. The key thing, however, is to be authentic and point out the persuasive tool only if it is genuinely there - if you're being a fraud, it simply won't work. This book is a weapon. Please use it wisely. S3 Ep 15548 Laws of Power

E

“Do not leave your reputation to chance or gossip; it is your life's artwork, and you must craft it, hone it, and display it with the care of an artist.”   This is an absolute bible for socially and politically navigating the world of relationships. In every single interaction, one individual will have more power and more status, and the other will have less. Be that in your work, business, romance, friendships, family, or otherwise, this book will show you’re the 'dos and donts'. You can read this book to best suit you: you can use it to help you in situations when you have less power, it can help you get more power, or it can help you use your power on others. Warning: Proceed with caution. This is a powerful book with powerful laws – ignore them at your peril.   Law 1 – Never Outshine The Master. "Always make those above your feel comfortably secure. In your desire to please or impress them, do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite". Law 4 – Always say less than necessary. "The more you say, the more common you appear, and the less in control... Powerful people impress and intimidate by saying less". Law 9 – Win through your actions, never through argument. "Any momentary triumph you think you have gained through argument is really a Pyrrhic victory: the resentment and ill will you stir up in stronger than any momentary change of opinion". Law 13 – When asking for help, appeal to people's self-interest, never to their mercy or gratitude. "Uncover something in your request, or in your alliance, that will benefit them, and emphasise it out of all proportion". Law 46 – Never appear too perfect. "Appearing better than others is always dangerous, but most dangerous of all is to appear to have no faults or weaknesses". Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

E

The War of Art - by Steven Pressfield'Break through the blocks and win your inner creative battles' If you're looking to achieve anything, especially something creative, you almost definitely have the skills and abilities to be able to do it. For example, if you want to be a writer, based on the fact that you're reading this, you have the ability to read and write. But being able to write isn't the be-all-and-end-all of actually writing a book. "There's a secret that real writers know that wannabe writers don't... It's not the writing part that's hard. What's hard is sitting down to write." What keeps us from sitting down to write? The Resistance. S2 Ep 138The ONE Thing

E

The ONE Thing - by Gary Keller & Jay Papasan'The surprisingly simply truth behind extraordinary results' We believe a lot of lies when it comes to work and productivity: multitasking is a lie, work-life balance is a lie, 'everything matters equally' is a lie. The ONE Thing helps us break down our big long term goal into a series of dominoes, then forces us to focus on just ONE thing, which is knocking over that very first domino. If you hack away at your one thing every day, eventually it will topple and set off a chain reaction, knocking over more and more dominos, and building up momentum to knock over bigger and bigger ones too. S2 Ep 130Tom Peters

We spoke to Tom Peters, the father of the modern business book. Before 'In Search of Excellence' in 1982, most business information was contained textbooks or academic journals. But thankfully, engaging and insightful information is now available and digestible for everyone. Tom Peters just released a brand new book: 'The Excellence Dividend'. The message is the same as many of his previous works, because most big companies STILL haven't got the idea. 'People First' is Peters's key to success - the only way to get a thriving, growing organisation is to focus on people.Check out Tom and his books at http://tompeters.com/  Hosted on Acast. S2 Ep 128Perennial Seller

E

Perennial Seller - by Ryan Holiday'The art of making and marketing work that lasts' This book is all about putting in the time and effort and energy into making something that is really really good, and then getting it out into the world. It's about making something 'perennial', something that will last for decades and still be selling in the future, not putting together some low-quality garbage and a flash-in-the-pan scammy marketing campaign to sell a lot of copies in a quick amount of time and then it dies. This is the perfect book to read to balance out some other ideas around hustle and shipping and minimum viable product and the like. If you want to make something great, this book is a must-read. This book is featured in our 'Top 50' books. To get the full list, send us an email to [email protected] and we'll send the PDF to you.
