I hit rock bottom, life was slapping me in the face. I called 1800 life coach and that’s when things turned around, but maybe not for the better. You decide. Season 4, Episode 2 This story was inspired by my years spent in an unusual church. From the outside it looked like any other Protestant evangelistic church. We sang worship songs, had Bible study groups and Christmas presentations. It was everything you think a typical church should be. Bonus points: it was also multicultural. But beyond the warm smiles and ethnic meals there was a controlling element.You were forbidden to date or marry outside of the group and your “personal time” was scrutinized. Each member was assigned a personal “coach” to guide them spiritually. It wasn’t just a good idea to listen to your coach, you had to listen to your coach. Accountability is good It keeps earthlings in line so we don’t do stupid things. This church took accountability to an unhealthy level. If you have similar experiences I would like to hear from you. For me I’m still in recovery even though I left this group a few years ago. The host of this podcast died in the Season 3 finale, his wife reflects on his history and the desperate attempt to bring him back to life. Season 4, Episode 1 People throughout the centuries have tried to find the fountain of youth, the secret to longevity and the answer to immortality.  Longevity can be attained by avoiding certain foods, Illegal drugs, and risky professions such as Nascar racing. You can live in an iron bubble without stepping outside. But who wants to do that? However, Immortality is impossible. We as earthlings have tried and failed miserably. But now there is hope. Thanks to Google, Amazon, Jericho Labs and other high tech cloud services your consciousness could live on forever. Sounds cool? Some people are horrified with the possibility that their mind could be uploaded into a computer or Life Replica. They feel the dead should rest in peace and not linger on a digital cloud. Probably they’re right. You’ve heard the term, “gone too soon.” Wouldn’t it be incredible to preserve the consciousness of leading thinkers. Say for instance if Einstein, Beethoven, MLK, Apostle Paul lived on. We can continue to learn from these great earthlings as their theories, music, science and social causes develop. Not convinced? What happens when a man dressed in black  interrupts my family dinner and destroys the season finale. Season 3, Episode 12 Yes My fellow earthlings this is the season 3 finale. Little bit of a spoiler, it didn’t go as planned. I wanted to leave you with something thoughtful, inspiring and even spiritual. I owe it to you since you’ve been listening since day 1.  However, as they always say, plan for the unexpected. Unfortunately I didn’t do that. In my defence I was struggling with how to conclude this season. Everything I wrote was crap. I started one story just to run into plot holes and roadblocks. Also my dear sweet family was coming over from Jamaica. Great!  Not because I don’t love my family but this gives me even less time to work on a finale. That wasn’t the worst part. A man dressed in black sat nearby, no one invited him and no one could see him but me. The rest of the story you have to listen to and draw your own conclusions. Jeff’s lifeless body is wheeled back and forth from the office.The first potential head transplant makes the news. Perhaps my colleague could leave his wheelchair behind but is this just a distraction? Season 3, Episode 11 Most of us are distracted with the nonessentials. We worry ourselves to death about trivial things. We live in a world of distractions and as technology increases by the millisecond are attention divides. Youtube and Twitter are the template of attention deficit. These short messages and videos are easily consumed in a couple of minutes. Shorter videos and tweets generate more likes and reshares. Longer messages are ignored.  If you want to go viral it has to be short. Back in my days and I’m not that old, people’s attention span was wider. We could read an in depth article without getting distracted by stupid cat videos. But we crave distractions because it keeps us from asking profound questions, such as the meaning and purpose of life and what happens after we die.  These are uncomfortable questions, we’ll rather talk about the latest Marvel movie or political scandals, but these are the most important questions. Urban legend speaks of a man dressed in a black pinstripe suit, gold pocket watch and a fedora. He appears when you least expect him, and he collects what you desperately try to keep. Season 3, Episode 10  The Collector goes by different names depending on your culture. I have investigated him for the past couple of years and collected, excuse the pun, many stories from around the world. Some claim he’s a negative spirit sent from the Underworld, others claim he’s an agent of the Divine Order. I have mentioned him in an earlier episode and you will hear from him again in the season finale. The Collector is not a hero or a villain he’s just like us at the same time he’s way different than us. I know that sounds confusing but hang in there. Some events in our lives seem random like unconnected dots, when we look closer we see the threads. Season 3 Episode 8 If there’s no purpose in life than the pursuit of one’s pleasure then the human experience will have no meaning. True meaninglessness is to inhabit a universe without strings. To exist as a singular organism detached and independent. Some may call this liberation to live without attachments, to answer to no one, to be your own god. Detachment and radical independence creates loneliness. “Man is not made to be alone.” Like it or not are actions creates a ripple effect, and other people’s actions impacts us.We are influenced for good or bad. The Hollywood Superstar or the Chosen One, who will you choose. S3 Episode 7 Jesus has been misunderstood, misscategorized and maligned.He’s the most famous man to ever walk the Earth. His teachings and way of life is both magnetizing and polarizing. He was born a rebel, lived as a revolutionist and died as a martyr.His followers called him the Lamb of God, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Chosen One. Times have changed and has given birth to Hollywood and Social Media. Historical figures with rough edges and uncomfortable features are chiseled, repackaged and relabled. To appeal to a broader demographic Jesus had to change. His radical ideas and unbending dogma needed to give way to progressive enlightenment.Sin, damnation and the cross needed to be replaced. With slow strategic and precise measures a new Jesus emerged from the factory. This version is passive, tame and a bit of a hippie with long blonde hair and creamy blue eyes. By toning down his message and converting him into a self help guru he appeals to the everyday Walmart Shopper. Not wanting to feel left out many churches ditched the biblical Jesus for version 2.0. Such a gamble paid off as Mega Churches blossomed across America. The historical/biblical Jesus is still out there in the desert telling mankind to repent. It’s harder to find him with Netflix, YouTube and thousands of distractions. If you search for the real Jesus you may not like him. Dr Needlemeyer, the once respected astrophysicist, claims he’s receiving messages two years into the future about a coming apocalypse. Is he a liar, a lunatic or is he telling the truth? Season 3, EP 1 Some scientist are convinced its theoretically possible to time travel. The notion that time traveling is restricted to hollywood movies and syfy novels is losing its grip. In recent years scientist are able to move a single particle from one fixed point in time to another, of course this is on a micro level. To truly bend time or go back to the future we need something more powerful than a DeLorean. Maybe a black hole or something equivalent could bend spacetime and transport our mortal coil into the future. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, we lack the technology to transform this idea into reality. Maybe we will get there. But what about receiving messages from the future?This is a form of time travelling on a smaller scale. A black hole or the power of a star is not required, all we need is a quantum computer. Life has a way of throwing you upside down. There’s demands, deadlines and expectations. This episode will ease your stress so you can avoid mental burnouts. Objectively speaking it seems to work, with microwave ovens, robot vacuum cleaners and same day express delivery. Amazon recently launched drone delivery where your package will descend from the clouds and land at your doorstep. Convenience and comfort is a click away as companies cater to our every wish. No need to kill and eat our food when we could swipe the screen and order buckets of chicken. Earth and all of its goodies in one or two taps. With all of these first world advantages we remain stressed out. The pressure to keep up with our neighbors and hustle for ‘the good life’ has left us spiritually and emotionally deficient in this George Jetson world. Many of us lack balance and chase after things to quench our immediate needs. We seek comfort from the bosoms of social media with their ‘likes’ and retweets. No wonder this generation is besset with social anxieties and mental fatigue. However, there is a spiritual facet to our nature that stands in contrast to our animal instincts. You finished writing your Magnus opus and someone has the audacity to point out it’s faults, what do you do? Off season, episode 2 If you have been writing stories for a good length of time you’ll attract haters and lovers.Hopefully more lovers than hatters. There is a third category, objective critic. This person will dissect your story, study all the nuts and bolts and see if your story holds together. We need the objective critic, not the cheerleader. The objective critic sharpens our skills, the cheerleader strokes our ego. To be honest I would rather be sourounded by beautiful cheerleaders telling me how awesome I am, but in my innermost soul I need the objective critic. In today’s parlance ‘criticism’ is viewed as a negative word so we desperately try to avoid it. The very thing that could improve our writing we run away from.How strange. Slipped on a bar of soap, struck my head and rushed to the hospital. In and out of consciousness as I heard my family plotting the unthinkable. Living in a perpetual state of luxury does not heighten spiritual awareness, on the contrary it could make you docile and impotent. In our current North American culture we are in pursuit of the happy pill, or we desire for the Government to pay our bills, wipe our nose and take out the trash. Whenever a nation becomes wealthy and at relative peace her citizens become apathetic and lethargic. Since there’s no wars to fight and famine to vanquish we become selfish and small minded. Rather than giving ourselves over to creative projects and uplifting our fellow Earthlings we try to find blemishes.Instead of forgiveness and understanding we are quick to press the cancel button. In this story are main protagonist is on the verge of cancellation. On the surface he’s an awful Earthling who only cares about himself. However, before we reach for the cancel button we need to look at ourselves in the mirror. The crime scene was cut and dry, a disgruntled accountant armed with a suicide vest seeked revenge. An old fashioned cassette tape was left behind, one that could elevate your consciousness or turn you into a killer. Season 2, Episode 2 This story is a combination of two previous stories from season one: Murder within the colour wheel and Better version of you. To get the most out of this episode go back and listen to both of them. Murder within the colour wheel and Better version of you seems radically different on the surface. How can I connect both stories to tell a bigger story? This was a challenge, but as a writer I welcomed it. I listened carefully to both episodes over and over, again and again, trying to find the thread. I knew it was there I could feel it, but I couldn’t describe it completely. When I found the thread I started writing. Inspiration? I have always been fascinated with mind control techniques, the idea that someone could manipulate our behaviour by inserting cleverly crafted words. Main stream media including social media has ways of shaping our reality. They sneak their way into our subconscious and plant seeds. Unfortunately many of us are succumbed by their titillating messages and bombarded by their fake images. With careful moves on the chessboard they have reprogrammed our minds. Thankfully this is not all of us. If we are mindful we can see through the lies and the misinformation. We can safeguard our most precious commodity, our mind. Ted and Nemron debate the moral implications of resurrecting the human experiment. By the press of the button humanity could be reborn, but is it worth it? Season 2, Episode 1 This philosophical conversation takes place outside of our known universe. Everything we are experiencing is an illusion or more accurately a computer simulation.  If you haven’t listened to season one’s finale,  Human Data File 365, I suggest that you do. It may make more sense to witness the conversation of these supernatural beings that spun the galaxies into existence. The original story was written a few years ago in my book Universe Splendor. When I wrote it, I wasn’t familiar with the Simulation Theory, the idea that humanity and all of life is a complex code. The goal of writing Human Data file was to explore and ponder spiritual mysteries. That’s what I enjoy about writing stories, to stretch myself beyond my comfort zone, to challenge my worldviews and basic beliefs.For the record I don’t believe in the Simulation Theory, even though one of my favorite movies is the Matrix. In this modern-day classic Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, is chosen to liberate humanity from there virtual world. The proponents of the Simulation Theory have failed to offer conclusive evidence that Earthlings are mere 1’s and 0’s inside of a computerized algorithm. If we are only sophisticated codes  or subroutines controlled and manipulated by outside forces, then free will is a misnomer. If there is no such thing as free will then the concept of morality is a complete fabrication. If we endorse the idea of Simulation Theory, then are actions right or wrong is outside of our control. You can’t blame the person that breaks into your home and kills your Poodle since his or her actions were preordained. Depression is like a dog who’s constantly barking and biting at your heel Because of social distancing due to COVID, depression and other forms of mental disease is on the rise. If your not suffering I’m sure you know someone who is. When the lockdown in my city was firmly in place downtown Ottawa seemed like a ghost town, sort of like a scene from the Walking Dead. The trendy shops, book stores and restaurants were closed. The Canadian hustle and flow of the Byward Market was reduced to crickets, and the packed city buses were deserted. I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw a tumbleweed blowing in the wind. I wish I could tell you I was emotionally immuned but it got to me. Seeing everyone wearing masks and keeping at a safe distance. For a person who feeds off the energy of other earthlings isolation could be a deathnail. I don’t mean to sound like a drama queen but it’s true. I kind of long for a packed city bus again, are you like me? To be honest I noticed myself slipping into dark mental places. It’s hard to cheer yourself up with Netflix and stupid cat videos on Youtube when it feels like the world is coming to an end. It really comes down to a matter of perspective and unplugging from social media. I don’t have all the answers, not even the “experts” have all the answers. We all like to be in control, I know I do, and the fear is a loss of control. Maybe it’s okay not to have all the answers. I wrote this episode not because I have overcome the Black Dog but I’m still going through it and by the grace of God one day I will overcome these negative and destructive thoughts. He didn’t greet me at the door as he normally did, he was withdrawn and reclusive not his light hearted self.  his age was a factor, rust seeped into his bones, his athletic legs of yesterday can hardly climb up the stairs. My old friend has seen better days, half the time  he doesn’t know where he is, we call his name but he rarely responds, a high wheezing sigh parted his lips, was it fatigue or indigestion it was difficult to tell, a doctors visit would be too expensive and we couldn’t afford insurance, we had to watch our friend sink down the drain, his mind dissolving, body faltering.  Two weeks after the Christmas dinner we received the grim but expected message, due to complications his family decided to put him down. $150 for a trained professional to inject a needle in the skin, he did not realize that today was his demise when they placed him in a cage and drove him to Gatineau.  His small furry body absorbed the poison, his feline tail laid flat on the table.
