The Black Foils have a new flight controller. Leo Takahashi has joined the team as they prepare for the newest Sail GP season. He joined Piney for a chat about his journey to the Foils, and their efforts preparing for Dubai. Secondary school basketball is on the rise.  Participation has jumped 61% since 2000, and if it keeps growing at its current rate it will be NZ's most-played sport in less than a year.   BBNZ CEO Dillion Boucher discusses the challenges created by the massive increase in popularity, and the reasons behind it.  “They are wanting to go out and try to get good at basketball because I think it's seen as a really cool sport," he told Piney.  “The amount of work that our young people are putting into their game is phenomenal.”  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A third Christchurch-based bid to join league's NRL claim they're making the necessary improvements to get support for entry from the governing body. The son of rugby league legend Mark Graham is using his father's sporting career as the basis for a new documentary. Sharko tells the story of Mark Graham's athletic legacy - including the 29 tests he played for the Kiwis, his historic induction into the NRL Hall of Fame and being named as NZ Player of the Century in 2007. Auckland FC have beaten the Wellington Phoenix 2-nil in the first-ever Kiwi A-League derby in the capital. Two late goals from substitute Jake Brimmer secured the three points for the visitors.
