Henri to make close approach to East Coast
Tropical Storm Henri, after forming Monday afternoon south and east of Bermuda, has been circling the island nation menacingly this week. AccuWeather forecasters warned Wednesday that a shift in its strength, the storm is now expected to reach hurricane force, and its track will bring it close to the East Coast of the United States -- perhaps close enough to brush the coast or even make landfall. Fred continues to cause problems
As the week progresses, Fred is forecast to move inland across southeastern Alabama, before turning northeastward through the Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians, losing wind intensity as it does so. The amounts of rainfall that are forecast could lead to significant problems hundreds of miles inland from the Gulf coast. Widespread 2-4 inches of rain is forecast from the Mississippi-Alabama border and southern Georgia on northward into West Virginia and central Virginia. The concentration of heaviest rain, aside from the Gulf Coast, is likely to be in the Appalachian Mountains of northern Georgia, eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina, where more than 6 inches of rain is possible. Weekend Update: Fred to make two landfalls
Tropical storm warnings were issued for the Florida Keys on Friday morning as Tropical Depression Fred was spinning about 315 miles east-southeast of Key West. AccuWeather meteorologists say that even though the system was still looking disorganized, it still has a chance at restrengthening into a tropical storm as it moves through the eastern Gulf of Mexico this weekend. Fred expected to intensify
Fred emerged from Hispaniola as a poorly organized tropical depression on Thursday morning. But, AccuWeather meteorologists say the system could eventually regain tropical-storm force — or even hurricane force — before it churns up the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Fred will threaten to make two U.S. landfalls, both of which could occur in Florida. AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno (@AccuRayno on Twitter) has all the details on today's ‘Weather Insider’. Fred to impact Florida this weekend
The sixth-named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season developed on Tuesday evening, breaking the basin's month-long lull. Tropical Storm Fred was named as it lingered just south of Puerto Rico at 11 p.m., local time, Tuesday. Fred will track through the northern Caribbean before eyeing the United States as early as this weekend. Floridians are being urged to remain vigilant as the AccuWeather Eye Path® will bring the system close to the Sunshine State with the potential for heavy rainfall, gusty winds and severe weather and dangerous seas. Tropical trouble is brewing in the Atlantic
AccuWeather meteorologists say a system that was becoming better organized in the basin Monday has the potential to become the sixth tropical depression and named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season at any time. Forecasters will be tracking the system, which could be named Fred, since it could approach Florida or the Gulf of Mexico by the weekend.
