Mozart Sinfonien stehen fast ausnahmslos in Dur. Nur zweimal macht der Komponist eine Ausnahme: beidesmal in g-Moll. Nur wenige Werke Mozarts weisen solche Dramatik auf wie seine späte 40. Sinfonie von 1788. Eine faszinierende Schicksalsmusik, über deren genaue Entstehungsumstände wenig bekannt ist.
