Hospitality businesses in the Pacific Northwest are facing staffing challenges despite the busy summer season. However, with school finishing soon, thousands of teenage workers will be looking for summer jobs, providing an opportunity for the industry to expand its hiring pool. Washington state has laws and regulations in place for minor workers, so businesses should check the Teen Labor Toolkit on wahospitality.org for information. With the warmer weather, it's important to remember safety rules for employees who work outside. The Washington Hospitality Association has created the Wildfire & Excessive Heat Toolkit, which includes resources like apps to monitor conditions. Additionally, the association offers a library of leadership podcasts for managers to better understand and manage the latest generation of employees. These podcasts can be found on the association's website or wherever podcasts are available.
