Faith Gives the Gift of Righteousness
Why do you need to be righteous? How do you actually get righteousness? So often we feel anxious about our moral status before God or feel we need to get everything right in order to be righteous. We might even be afraid becoming "self-righteous" or associate it with being judgemental and steer clear of the topic altogether. The Bible, however, says that righteousness is an essential free GIFT given by God through Faith, and that if we would receive it, it would begin to completely transform our lives. In this week's sermon Pastor Adam explores the foundational elements of understanding righteousness and the three things we need in order to receive it. ⛪ Looking for a church in New York City? Faith Tells Us The Truth
How seriously do you take the problem of your sin? In this week's sermon Pastor Adam teaches the harsh reality that sin both kills us and that sin spreads (whether we know it or not). The good news of the gospel, however, is that sin can be CURED! Learn to win the battle by beginning to tell the truth through the power of faith in Jesus. ⛪ Looking for a church in New York City? God Wants To Be Close To You
We have all experienced the pain of relationships in our lives that have ended or changed. Will the same be true for our relationship with God? The Bible says that God has made himself into somebody with whom a relationship is always able to be kept, and that by taking on the image of our creator we can become people that anyone in our lives can get close to. ⛪ Looking for a church in New York City? What Does Faith Do For Me?
What do we get from our faith for life right now? If we look at the life of Jesus, we can see that He was filled with spiritual gifts like peace, grace, joy -- while having none of the external things we commonly seek. In other words, Jesus was the most 'alive' man who ever lived! Do you want to live your life grasping for external desires, or seeking an internal spiritual life of Peace, Grace, and Joy that makes you feel alive right now? ⛪ Looking for a church in New York City? What does God want me to believe?
"Trust Me." Many things can be implied with this phrase. What is God asking when He wants us to trust Him? Lack of doubt? Resisting all forms of sin? At the end of the day, God is really only asking us to believe 2 primary things: that He can raise the dead, and He can make life out of nothing. Despite the very real difficulties of our lives, once we put these beliefs into practice, it opens us up to endless possibilities through Him! ⛪ Looking for a church in New York City? Faith Isn't Foolish
Depending what you believe in, there is always the possibility of being embarrassed by the outcome of your faith. Why does God make us risk it with faith, instead of works or knowledge or some other means? Because through faith, he can show you the gift of grace! ⛪ Looking for a church in New York City? God Wants To Bless Everyone
Some people seem to get all the luck - and we resent them for it. When you worked your hardest to get something, while someone else just got it handed to them, we think it's unfair. But once you realize the extent of God's unearned blessings in your life, it turns this equation on its head, and we begin to want His blessing for others too. Through God's blessing, we find the will and strength to do good works, instead of doing good works to find His blessing. ⛪ Looking for a church in New York City? Christianity Is About Being Alive | Easter Sunday
How do we feel alive? Is it through achieving some goal, realizing some dream, having some relationship? The Cross of Jesus Christ is a Giving Tree | Good Friday
In today's world, we are concerned about "healthy" giving - setting boundaries that allow us to keep enough energy and vitality for ourselves. But Jesus did not give in this manner; He has allowed us to selfishly take every part of him in order to be with us. Why Don't I Have The Life I Want?

God Hasn't Given Up On You
We live in a world where people give us all kinds of rules, only to give up on us when we get them wrong. Is God the same way? The fact is, God gives us rules because he believes in who we can become; but when we get them wrong, he doesn't give up on us. God Is Not A Hypocrite
We live in a world that is full of hypocrites — people who say one thing and do another, and still have the gall to judge others! But hypocrisy isn’t just a bad character trait; rules create the opportunity for hypocrisy to exist in the first place. Far from curing hypocrisy, the rules create hypocrites. And yet, Jesus — the only one with a right to judge anyone — offers us freedom from judgment for our sins. Only God Is Fair
We live in an unfair world. We make rules to make things fair again - and yet, the rules don't do this. Instead, the rules often create new opportunities for unfairness. But God is fair - not only is He fair generally, but he's fair with respect to how He applies the rules. While everyone else in the World is unfair, God alone is utterly fair; the only being he has been unfair to, in fact, is himself. You don't have to feel alone
God does not want us to be lonely - God wants us to belong, with a belonging that is real. A belonging that isn't built on getting it right, but on transcending the status of the world with God and God's people. Belonging is not about what you have done, but what Christ has done for you! Real Life Is Eternal
We think we know all about living - but are we really alive? What kind of life are we living? The life we live is meant not to descend into obsession with physical things and raw animal existence, but to ascend to a higher form of life called Eternal Life -- because Real Life Is Eternal. Everyone believes in something. What do you believe in?
We are all believing, all the time, using faith to animate our lives. The question is not whether or not we are believing - the only question is what are we believing in? Success, money, power, status, physical pleasure - we believe in anything we think will make our lives meaningful. But God wants you to leave behind these temporary things you believe in for the real thing; God knows that it is by believing in him that will actually live your BEST life, the life you were created to live as the creature you were created to be! What are you looking for?
Everyone is beholding something. And whatever you are looking for, it governs how you live. This city is full of people whose lives are determined by what they are beholding; instead, we need to see something that frees us from our cravings. The only thing that we can behold that will meet our needs in this way is God. God wants us, and God wants this city, to be set free by Beholding the Living God! Mangers Are For Food
The world is full of very hungry people. In the face of this incredible spiritual hunger, our world only offers "North-Pole" answers - spiritual candy that excites for a second, but doesn't truly fill, nourish, or satisfy. In contrast, as a newborn Jesus was placed in a manger - a feeding trough offered up to the world to provide real nourishment. Why continue to feed your spirit with things that leave you feeling undernourished? What are you going to choose to feed yourself with spiritually this Christmas? Why Jesus Died For You
What do you want the most? The things that our in our lives that we desire most are there because we want them to be. In the same way, you only have as much of God in your life as you desire; if God's power hasn't been released into your life, it's because you don't desire Him. Jesus experienced death at the hands of Pontius Pilate and the Jewish leaders who were envious of his power; they didn't desire to release Him into their lives, but instead chose to exchange his life for that of the zealot Barabbas. No one cared that Jesus would die. And yet he died for them, and you, anyways. The sacrificial death of Jesus isn't built on your desire for Him -- it's built on His desire for you! What happens when you get close to God
We all want someone to be close to us - but sometimes it feels like God is farther away than anyone else. But is God really just too close for us to appreciate who He really is? Sometimes we can feel far away by being "too close" - just as Jesus himself went unappreciated by those in his hometown. The only way to get closer to the God who's already in your heart, is through faith. There is no closer that God can get to us; instead, we have to draw closer to Him in faith! Why Jesus Heals
So often, we are quick to tell God what we want, but just as quick to move on from the "inconvenience" of giving him thanks and praise for what He does in our lives. In Luke 17:11-19, Jesus meets ten lepers, all of whom He sends away healed - but only one comes back to praise Him! We need to see that God has helped us, and go out of our way to thank him in return. Experience our fellowship at www.vineyardmanhattan.org

We need Holy Spirit power in our lives | Clint Morgan
A well-known maxim states, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” People in positions of power often abuse their power toward selfish ends. That said, there is a form of great power that does not corrupt. It is a power we all need. It works in us and through us for both our benefit and the benefit of others. It is the power of God. The Good News is that God delights to make this power available to us! Experience our community at www.vineyardmanhattan.org
How to feel alive again
What makes you feel alive? The feeling of being alive is a strength and force all on its own; yet so often we don't feel this way in the World. Instead, we feel numb, dull, apathetic, dead. In a world where we feel less and less alive, we turn to addictions to intensify our physical experiences - only to sap our everyday vitality. At the end of the day, being alive is not a matter of physical intensity - being alive is a matter of Spiritual Intensity, through the rich love and mercy of God! Experience our community at www.vineyardmanhattan.org.
The Power of God's Love
Is there a Love that we can't be separated from? A love to surpass all trials & tribulations, that never breaks fellowship, survives beyond distress, endures in times of plenty and want, that will never be beaten back or destroyed? Thank God in Heaven there is! The Bible says that in this world of failing love, a great new love has entered in -- the Love of God, a love that never ends, never stops, and never shies way. And that love has been manifested now in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who you can NEVER be separated from. Learn more about our fellowship at www.vineyardmanhattan.org
In Defense of Christian Charity: An Election Message
Today we have a special message from Lead Pastor Adam Schalter ahead of the election. We hope God blesses you through this message today. This episode was produced by Ann DuBois. Music by Low Light. Special thanks to Coram Deo for the use of their space for recording.
What is Grace?
In a world run by rules, grace is EVERYTHING. Our life is dominated by rules and checklists and 7-step programs to living a better life, but we are fundamentally unable to "get it right." We are doomed to always get it wrong -- unless some other power comes in to let us experience getting it right, even if we didn't follow the rules. The good news is, we can stop living under the imprisonment of the Law and start living under the freedom, mercy and salvation of Grace! God has made the life-giving reality of Grace accessible to you in a world imprisoned by rules. And He has made righteousness accessible not by what you do, but by what you BELIEVE. Come worship with us at www.vineyardmanhattan.org
Why you need salvation
You don't just need to be saved; you should want it. Are we really going to say that every change we need in our lives is under our control? We need help experiencing change - we just don't like to call it what it is: salvation! Salvation is such incredible news because when we are saved, God does all the work to change us - we don't need to do any of the work ourselves. Salvation is waiting for us to recognize - it has already occurred. And finally, once we experience God's salvation in our lives, we will long to share this Good News with others. Come worship with us at www.vineyardmanhattan.org.
Hearing God Is Good For You
So often, we lump God's attempts to speak to us into a category of unwanted, inconvenient, or annoying demands that make us uncomfortable and threaten our control over our lives. But hearing from God isn't just about doing something for him or helping others - hearing from God is good for you. In the book of Acts, Philip shows us an example of doing God's work simply by listening; God did all the work to put Philip in a situation where he could do His will. God gave him the command to "rise and go" - so Philip rose and went. After listening and obeying, Philip is simply taken over by who God made him to be, and finds himself in a situation he is perfectly equipped for. Come worship with us at www.vineyardmanhattan.org.
How to ask for help
Why is it so hard to ask for help? We all want to believe we can do it ourselves - but asking for help is inevitably the more mature thing to do. Our physical weaknesses are really opportunities for us to recognize how much we need God's help over and over again each day. And if this is true for us, how much more true is it for those who are lost in the darkness of the World? When we clearly see their needs, and understand instinctively how God would meet them, we naturally want to share good news with them. We can share the gospel when we see the needs of others, want their lives to be better, and have a living, experienced understanding of God's goodness. Come worship with us at vineyardmanhattan.org
How do I share the gospel?
We all need some good news - but when it comes to the good news of the gospel, where do we start? We all need to be saved - but first we need to know what to be saved from. In the Modern Western world, where so many of our external circumstances have been solved, there is no felt need to be saved from anything... except an internal circumstance so insidious that we can't control it: ourselves. The problem is, we've had too much of the world, and we aren't used to sharing the Gospel. We share other little gospels instead - interests, passions, or desires. In order to minister our faith to others, Paul lays out four key steps: Being Sent, Preaching, Hearing, and Believing. The truth is, God is sending you to proclaim the gospel that the world might be saved. It's time to get over our fears and our carelessness, and determine again to preach the message of Good News to those whom God has given us to preach it! When people leave you | God on "The Roommate"
Have you ever been left behind? In this world, the experience of being left behind is an unfortunately common one. This theme is relevant in the Broadway show The Roommate, as well as in the book of Ruth. In both stories, we find people for whom everything would change if just one person would enter into their lives - and stay. If you're feeling that way today, there is good news: when everyone else has left us, and we can't remember who we are, the God of the Bible will come and find you, be with you, and never leave you; because God's not going anywhere! Come worship with us: https://www.vineyardmanhattan.org
What's wrong with the World? | God on "Hadestown"
What's gone wrong with the World? We all have a sense that things "shouldn't be this way." How do we get back to the way it should be? The Broadway musical Hadestown struggles with this dilemma - as does the Bible. In Hadestown, Orpheus expresses his hope through the power of song; and in the Bible, God says he will raise us up and sing a great song of change, a song of a new day, a song to fix what's wrong - and a song to make everything new! When you want to run away | God on "Water for Elephants"
Have you ever run away from something? Water for Elephants is a show about people running away -- a particular kind of journey that's not so much about where you're going, but what you're leaving behind. Similarly, God's people were running from something as found in the Book of Exodus. The world's circus trades in lies and deception; but God's Tabernacle trades in truth -- the glory of the Lord on full display for everyone to see. Join us at: https://www.vineyardmanhattan.org
Can't stop eating? | God on "Sweeney Todd"
We are hungry. All the time. We exist to satiate our hunger - not just physical, but spiritual. The revival of Sweeney Todd provides a pertinent backdrop to explore the reality of our insatiable hunger. What aren't you willing to do when you're hungry enough? The gods we serve in the world are hungry - and they aren't done feeding on us. We need to serve a God who isn't hungry, but instead desires to feed us so we can become who He created us to be. God will never leave us hungry! Join us for God on Broadway, a sermon series looking for Biblical themes from shows on Broadway this year: https://vineyardmanhattan.org/

Why is it so hard to make friends?
Have you ever felt like you need more friends? Making friends is harder than ever today. Fortunately, we can learn from someone who was great at making friends -- Paul. In his ministry, Paul relied on the help and support of many "invisible" friends: from the socially invisible, to friends from far away. To learn more, visit us at https://www.vineyardmanhattan.org

You are not invislbe.
Have you ever felt invisible? Some people are made profoundly invisible by society. The world turns people invisible by race, gender, status. It hurts to be turned invisible; we feel dehumanized, unloved, unvalued, alone, hopeless. But the Bible has something else to say: the Bible says that God sees everyone, even the most invisible. God, not mankind, determines the value of human beings... And he is building a world where no one is invisible. Lear more about us: https://vineyardmanhattan.org/
