Randal Kottwitz - Interview -

Before we got all our information from the internet, magazines were the primary way of learning about specialty topics like computing. Randal Kottwitz was part of two major early pillars in this field, SoftSide magazine, as it transitioned from being a pamphlet with Basic programs to a full blown magazine with attached floppy disks and tapes and MacUser magazine, the go-to source for information about Apple's revolutionary 16 bit computer the Macintosh. We talk about publishing, visions for the future of a digital life in the 80s and so, so much more! Recorded September 2021. Together with luminaries like Nasir Gebelli, Sirius made Steve Wozniak's brain child the go-to computer for entertainment in the early 80s. 100th Episode - 7 Minutes in Heaven Spectacular

100 episodes, a milestone most podcasts never reach. To celebrate the 100th episode of the Video Game Newsroom Time Machine, we have assembled the entire team, Karl, Peter, Mads, Jon, and Ethan for a 7 Minutes in Heaven spectacular! Each of us has had to pick a game for another member of the team to play for 7 minutes. The only rules, the games have to be at least 20 years old, have not been played on a previous 7 Minutes in Heaven segment, and the player can not have previously played the games! So, celebrate with us as we tackle some timeless (and some forgotten by time) classic titles!

Gary Carlston - Interview

Broderbund was one of the most important publishers of the 80s and 90s, releasing seminal titles such as Choplifter, Prince of Persia, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, Print Shop, and Myst. But behind the scenes was a family, a true band of siblings, that proved that business didn't have to be a cutthroat winner-take-all affair. Gary Carlston, together with his brother Doug and sister Cathy, helped create a legendary company with a legacy like few others. Gary tells his story from humble beginnings peddling TRS-80 games to local shops to becoming a global powerhouse and, finally, having to call it quits to preserve the family. Jim Trucano Interview

Many of us remember the days of walking into a pool hall, a bowling alley, or even a supermarket and being able to drop a quarter into an arcade game, be it Pac-Man, Defender, Street Fighter II, or San Fransisco Rush. How did those games get there? Well, that's where the route operators came in. Our guest is Jim Trucano, he grew up in the industry, a third generation operator, and he tells us all about the ins and outs of being an arcade operator back in the halcyon days of Atari, Midway, et al.
