<p>Roger is saved at 13 and studies chemistry, planning to teach in high school. Instead he’s recruited to teach at a Bible college where he meets Naomi. He’s drafted into the army where he works as a chemist, hears a Wycliffe call to teach the Bible in the Philippines and submits to God. He and Naomi apply to be missionaries. He’s accepted, she’s rejected. They marry anyway and both are approved. They go to Manila where their first son is born. The first part ends as they arrive in Banaue.</p>

<p>One of twelve children, David’s father sets a proud example of black fighters in World War I. But David doesn’t do well in school and drops out to join the army, and he learned to drink with other soldiers in bars. He becomes paratrooper like his brother and they carouse. When his brother is discharged, David suffers turmoil. He talks with the chaplain, receives Christ and then baits Satan. He goes to jail, but the chaplain restores him and David goes on to give his testimony and study the Bible. The first part ends as he leaves the Army to go to college, called by God to the ministry.</p>

<p>George is convicted at age seven, but no one tells him how to be saved. He grows up depending on his own efforts. In college he meets Laura and they fall in love. Then he accidentally runs over his 7-year-old son who dies, and George is devastated. He goes to his mother who talks about Job and George surrenders to Christ. God leads him into children’s ministry, and he founds the Mailbox Club for children, now all over the world.</p>

<p>Chris goes to college but joins a fraternity where he drinks and gets into immoral behavior. For five years he fails to go to church and drifts away from God. Finally, he goes, is convicted and recommits his life to Christ. Jenn is saved and they marry. Chris witnesses to his dad who refuses to pray, but repents later with a pastor. He graduates, trains to be a medical technician in Atlanta, plays in a bar then quits the school—called to ministry. Married and still a pastor, he continues to write gospel songs and serve the Lord in missions.</p>

<p>After his salvation, Rob throws away the alcohol and drugs, and his wife Gail is enraged. She comes and goes, taking and leaving their daughter, then gets pregnant by someone else, but he accepts and loves the 2nd daughter. Their marriage ends when she slashes his clothes and stabs him. She takes everything. He tries to understand but turns from the faith after the divorce. Finally, he repents and gets custody of the girls, meets “Rose” and they marry. They travel to a retreat to pursue the validity of another one of Nancy’s dreams about an earthquake. Steve drives a pastor to a city near the retreat. On the way, the pastor shares the gospel with him throughout the four-hour trip. Steve resists. But at the retreat he prays for salvation, an insincere prayer. On the third day he yields to Christ, an earthquake occurs in his heart. Served many years as layman; now in ministry.</p>

<p>An only child, Nancy’s dad commits suicide months after she marries Steve. They are in Alaska as teachers. She has stomach pains and fears death, especially after she has several dreams. <p>Penny is born prematurely but survives only to suffer double pneumonia at six. The family suffers through the Depression, but Penny goes to Bible college where she meets George. They marry, graduate and go into ministry. Four children are born, but the youngest is murdered at 19. After George dies in 1989, Penny serves with missionaries in Mexico. James Wilkins is a guest speaker at a meeting, and she prays that he would desire marriage to her one day. She nearly dies in a car accident with her sister but survives and continues to pray for James. They marry in 1996, and now they serve the Lord together.</p>

<p>Jim’s father is crippled in an accident at work, and his overwrought mother tries to abort her pregnancy: James. <p>His parents divorce when James is five and he never sees his father again. Feeling that his mother has rejected him, he turns to drugs and gangs. He’s arrested for armed robbery and is sentenced to a year in prison, then loses his girlfriend. A neighbor gets him to church and Dion prays for salvation at home. He backslides badly because he doesn’t go to church and grow in faith. After seven years the prodigal son returns. Now married and in ministry.</p>

<p>Michael goes to a Christian boarding school where he doesn’t study hard and misbehaves. Factional fighting leads to bloodshed and murder and jail for a year. After 14 years of fighting, Michael cannot sleep and is suicidal. His wife takes him to a pastor who leads him to Christ. <p>Gary’s parents divorce when Gary is five. He goes to many different school but excels. Becomes a leader under the encouragement of his high school sweetheart. They go to college and she dumps him, so he joins the Army Special Forces and becomes a medic with the Green Berets. He gets drunk and piles up so many charges that he re-enlists for Vietnam. He loves the Montagnard people, the peace and purpose. The first part ends after a huge battle when he is injured three times but keeps helping others, which will earn him the Medal of Honor.</p>

Her best friend, another dancer, is murdered and Ginger quits the clubs and hard drugs. She reads the Bible. Gary is arrested, rededicates his life to Christ in prison and they marry when he’s released.</p>

When her mother needs help after having a seizure, Donna overcomes retaliatory feelings and looks after her mother and an aunt. Then his brother dies of cancer. Still faithful, David goes to college.</p>

He’s sentenced to San Quentin where he finally surrenders to Christ. He serves God in jails and rescue missions.</p>

The man dies that night of a heart attack and Charles feels compelled to preach on street corners. Charles goes to his former employer and confesses thefts that they forgive. He resists conviction several times. Finally, he steals his wife’s 401K check and disappears for a week. She finds him. At home he wrestles with the devil but finally surrenders to Christ. <p>Chuck joins the navy at 17, hears and rejects the gospel during boot training. Later he says “yes” to Jesus but not with his heart. He marries 15-year-old Nell when he’s 20. They party and have a son, Larry, but alcohol nearly drives them apart. When the navy sends him to Iceland, she wants a divorce. He persuades her to try again but the marriage founders. A sailor urges Chuck to come to Bible study and he eventually prays for salvation. Nell comes at Christmas but they fight, and he sequesters the boy. She goes back to Texas and he prays for two years. Finally, she returns, hears him preach and professes faith in Christ. The marriage is restored.</p>

<p>Mamie’s mother gives her to a stranger who takes her to France and teaches her to deal cards, smoke and drink. She marries at fifteen, has a daughter, Sonia. Her husband dies and Mamie raises Sonia by dancing in cabarets. She becomes a drug addict, enduring the Nazis. Her daughter dies, further embittering Mamie. When the war ends she goes to Canada where she contracts polio and is crippled. A woman invites her to church, and she goes to mock but is saved. She becomes a missionary to the bayou of Louisiana.</p>

<p>Kathy’s bitterness toward her busy father causes many problems: bulimia, rebellion, drinking and a bad attitude. She meets Kip in high school and they go off to college together, but she cannot be faithful. Her sin leads to depression and she has several accidents, but she finishes nursing school. She and Kip marry but her bulimia returns after her first baby is born. She goes to a clinic, overcomes bulimia and meets Christians in exercise class. She learns about Jesus, goes to Bible study and receives Christ. But she still takes anti-depressants for 14 years. After a crisis when she’s diagnoses with psychosis, she and Kip go to a seminar where she learns to trust in the Lord and she throws away her meds.</p>

<p>His dad abandons the family when Johnny is 14. At 17 Johnny takes a job as professional golfer and chooses to work on Sunday rather than go to church. His mother pleads with him to no avail. He begins drinking and drinks too much. He marries Dorothy and they build a country club. When World War II comes, he converts the club into an officer’s club. He’s drafted but the army has him teach golf rather than go overseas. He continues drinking to excess, tries rehab, spurns his mother’s prayers and pleading. Dottie stays with him. <p>Bill’s family in Belfast, Ireland is poor but hard working. Bill’s father and he both gamble pocket money. God helps him buy buildings as centers for youth. Riding his motorcycle, Bill is hit by a car and his leg amputated. A nurse saves his life. His father buys a farm when he returns from the war and Harold, as the oldest, does much of the work. Being a daydreamer in school and having failed several grades, Harold quits school at age sixteen without being able to read. He wants to know God, though, and goes to a church service where he is saved. But he is unable to read the Gospel of John given him.</p>

<p>John’s father goes to prison and he grows up never having his dad hug him or say, “I love you.” His grandmother reads him the Psalms, but disillusionment leads him to rebel. He drinks, smokes and runs away at 13, returning to finish two years of high school. At 19 he marries a girl with a baby and they binge drink for several years. When her drunken relative threatens to shoot John, he leaves and gets a divorce two years later. Then he meets Pat, a woman with three children. They marry. A co-worker witnesses to John and he takes the children to church. One day he collapses unexpectedly and goes to the hospital where his co-worker’s pastor comes and leads him to Christ. He wants to be a pastor but his divorce precludes that option.</p>

He dates Andrea but both waffle about commitment, she as a victim of incest, he because of his gang background and stuttering. They marry but his job losses create marital discord. They separate and he tries counseling. After two years they reconcile and adopt two babies. His stepfather calls to ask forgiveness</p>
