<p>Her father dies when she is four and her wayward mother leaves her with an aunt who neglects Ashley’s baby brother, who dies in Ashley’s arms. After beatings and rape from a stepfather, who also leaves her without food, she becomes homeless at age 6 when he throws her out. She tries to end her life but is rescued. Many foster homes and orphanages later, she is adopted by an American. At Bible camp Ashley hears the gospel and accepts Christ at 13. She goes to Bible college where she meets and marries Paul. They are missionaries in Brazil.</p>

<p>Kay’s troubled brother causes her anxiety and depression even though her parents are educated and loving. She tries to be perfect but suffers more depression in college until she meets Matt and they marry. She becomes a Special Ed teacher while he’s in Vietnam as a Marine. Afterward, he practices law and they prosper, having two children. When he confesses to fathering a daughter with his secretary, Kay is devastated. A neighbor leads her to Christ, and she leads Matt to the Lord. They begin adopting children, bi-racial and Hispanic—even his illegitimate daughter.</p>

<p>Starting in high school, Matt drinks too much. He goes to law school after college, where he meets Kay. Before they marry in his senior year, he enlists in the Marines. He goes to Vietnam and survives. Afterward, he practices as a lawyer. Seven years into his marriage he has an affair with his secretary who becomes pregnant after seven years. She keeps the baby that Matt supports. He tells Kay and she goes to a neighbor for comfort who leads her to Christ. Then Matt and their children get saved. They begin adopting bi-racial children. They even adopt Matt’s illegitimate daughter. He shares his testimony at churches.</p>

<p>Jettie is the fourth of twelve children. She believes in God but her family doesn’t go to church. She goes occasionally with a neighbor. She has to quit school at 14 to help at home. At 18 she’s allowed to stay behind when the family moves. She works, meets Brady and he promises to get a job. He joins the army and they marry. But his bad discharge from the navy ends his enlistment. He becomes a drunk, staying out all night. Jettie prays for salvation and leaves him. After he is saved, they move to Chicago and discover “Unshackled!” They go to PGM for years and foster a child from the Women and Children’s Division.</p>

<p>In 1944 David’s dad begins making moonshine with David’s help. He is 14. His mother finally objects and the family moves to Florida where David finishes high school at 16. David goes to hear an evangelist at the church next door and after a week of sermons he prays to receive Christ. His whole family, except for his dad, gets saved. His dad resists the gospel. David becomes superintendent of Sunday school, grows in the Lord, leads several people to Christ and his pastor encourages him to go to Bible college. The first part ends with him at Bible college, meeting Norma.</p>

<p>After his mother dies, Bob’s father raises him and his older sister. Speaking Cherokee at home, he struggles in school. Tribal superstitions rule. His dad remarries, a woman who takes them to church and teaches responsibility; then she dies. His dad drinks; Bob sneaks alcohol and steals, feeling shame. Finally, he graduates, goes to vocational technical school but drops out. His father dies of a heart attack in Bob’s arms, and he rages at God. Drunk and homeless, he stays here and there. A man gives him a tract; he goes to church. The pastor leads him to Christ. He serves as youth pastor and meets Charlene. They marry & he goes to Bible college. They are still serving as missionaries on a reservation in Washington.</p>

<p>Louis grows up in a Catholic family. Strict father. He joins the air force after graduation, becomes a medic and serves in Vietnam. Afterward, he meets Sharon, a nurse and an officer. She takes him to church, he feigns salvation and they elope. Then he prays for salvation. When their first son is born, he tells his family he is born again, and his father renounces him. Louis goes to Bible college in Chattanooga where he has adventures pastoring hill people. They endure many personal trials. Still a pastor in Las Vegas, New Mexico.</p>

Then she asks God’s forgiveness, ignores her stepfather and goes back to church. She and Bob, the youth pastor, marry. They go to Bible college, and he becomes a missionary to Indians on a reservation in Washington State. She witnesses to her family. Her parents and two brothers profess faith in Christ.</p>

<p>Jack burns his picture out of the school yearbook and his family sends him for psychiatric help. A thief and drug dealer, he flees his family after high school and goes to Florida. There he hears the gospel at a rescue mission and feigns conversion. A motorcycle accident causes him to bargain with God but he doesn’t keep his promises. He drinks too much, is charged with rape and spends a year in county jail where another inmate preaches to him. When he violates parole he goes to prison, gets serious with God and goes back to witness to his family as the first part ends.</p>

<p>Bill grows up in New York City. Gifted in basketball, he’s molested at 12 by a gangster and left with rage. His drinking ruins his NBA chances but he finishes college and marries Carolyn. When a back injury ends basketball, he has an affair. Carolyn learns and wants a divorce. After her pastor prays, she has peace and offers Bill forgiveness if he accepts Christ. He does but keeps drinking until his liver rebels. At a men’s gathering, he forgives the molester and finds peace. Now leads a recovery ministry.</p>

<p>Julio’s father is a philandering alcoholic who dies when Julio is 16. He grows up with religion but not the Bible. He studies agricultural science at university and meets an American missionary who tells him about Jesus. Foolishly he steals car parts and goes to jail for a week.
