In todays episode I spoke to Karl a return guest on this show. I first spoke to Karl during pleb miner month with Chet and Jon, I heard about his homestead and how he mines bitcoin with a S9 and uses the heat to keep guests warm in his yurt. Here’s the link to that show - https://ungovernablemisfits.com/podcast/bitcoin-circular-economy-and-hash-the-torch/ After our first conversation I was keen to learn more and I'm very happy I reached out. Karl is doing some incredible things using bitcoin and permaculture. Raising livestock, growing vegetables and even creating a symbiotic relationship between cannabis and rabbits. If you are interested in bitcoin, self sovereignty and the circular economy then this ones for you. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording. Bitesize Bitcoin (Cost to Mine & Efficiency)

FullE

Bitesize Bitcoin (Cost to Mine & Efficiency) Greetings Ungovernable Misifts, one of the most looked forward to events of the week for a miner is reaching your threshold on the payout of your mining rewards. Aside from the excitement a solo-miner may feel if they discover a block on their own, the steady payout from your pool is as simple pleasure. Generally, there are no surprises, your pools or in some cases a variety of pools will pay out about what you think they will unless of course there's a spike or drought and pool luck or the difficulty adjustment is drastic, but in general you have an idea as to how many sats give or take, you're going to receive. Now juxtapose that amount of stats versus the cost to run your machines for that time and you have a simple profitability calculation. In this episode of Bitesize Bitcoin, we will explain how to factor the cost to mine and the variables that go into profitability predictions. You'll notice in the intro of this episode that I said profitability predictions just like Bitcoin price predictions, mining profitability predictions are speculative. It's because of this that I don't personally attempt to answer inquiries about mining profitability. Just like future Bitcoin price, I don't know I just keep hashing. But calculate cost to mine and compare it to what you've received in payouts (assuming you sold the second you received them and honestly what Pleb Miner is doing that) is simple math and simple math is my kind of proof of work and in doing so we can derive a profitability snapshot. Cost to mine is easy to calculate, first we need to figure out the wattage of the device we're going to run (now most Bitcoin mining servers’ power usage specs are rated at plus or minus some percentage. Bitmain rates their machines power usage at ± 5% and Micro BT rates their machines at ± 10%. In this instance we will calculate a generic ASIC miner with the power usage of 3200 watts. Now that we know the wattage and since we know from our previous Bitesize Bitcoin on electricity, that power is the rate at which a certain quantity of work can be done over a period of time, we multiply the wattage by time, since we want to run the machine with a maximum uptime (the halving is always upon us) we will multiply by 24 hours. This gives us a power usage of 76.8 kilowatt hours per day. For novelty’s sake that machine made approximately 2 quadrillion 400 trillion sha 256 hashes in one day. Now we can take that 24 hour usage number and multiply it by your power rate, generally a good rate in the US is $0.10 a kWh 76.8 kilowatt hours times 5 cents comes to $7.68 a day to run our generic miner at 100 TH. The US average is currently somewhere around $0.14 (.13%) a kW/hr an 10% increase over last year that ends up to almost $10.75 a day to mine. To bring some perspective on cost to mine your locale in Japan it would cost ¥3105 a day or $22.50. The UK at 34 (22) pence a kWh is 26 of the King’s (cus that old bat is dead) of the KING’s slave notes a day. Speaking of countries that still maintain the lunacy of monarchy, in Norway it would cost 141 (107) kroner or $14 a day to run our Bitcoin mining server. South Africa clocks in at about the same as the norse, 200 South African rands a day or 12 cuckbucks. That’s if the power is on mind you, have a listen to Tensai Bankai's Pleb Miner Month edition of Bitesize Bitcoin and see what I mean. And last on our list, THE Rockstar of European energy policy, Germany. At a whopping $0.38 per kWh running a machine on Fiat dictated solar panels and windmills mixed with the coal-fired power plants you had to turn back on will cost you €29 a day to run. The market price of Bitcoin would have to be over $50,000 for a German minor to break even if he sold regularly how's that phasing out your nuclear power plants going for you? There you have it, cost of mine is simple, power usage in watts times 24 hours times electricity rate. Before we move on let's consider the source of variety in our variables. Mostly regulated electricity, priced in state issued Fiat currency, neither of which adhere to any semblance of laws of economics and or physics. That's why stranded gas miners, miners who seek the source of cheap power, and those that pioneer new ways to generate electricity or capture the waste heat and reuse it, are the unsung heroes of mining. They break the chains of energy market manipulation. The chain created by corrupt governments and NGO grifters and transcend the controls of greedy globalist bankers. They can help usher in a new era of energy sovereignty by rewarding efficiency and innovation. Now to factor in how much Bitcoin you can earn while mining over a time period. in a previous bite sized Bitcoin we explained the difficulty epoch and the 2016 block adjustment period. So, let's take a recent payout average. For the purposes of our discussion, over a one year span some difficulty epochs will be better than others but in this epoch of somewhere

Bitcoin Greenhouse are developing and building an open source, solar powered bitcoin mining greenhouse on Haida Gwaii, the traditional territory of the Haida People, off the coast of British Columbia, Canada. The Haida people currently live downstream from food and energy, power is provided by diesel generators, food sometimes shipped across Canada. Kiernan hopes his project can empower the first nations people of Canada to become sovereign again by producing their own food, energy, and secure sound money, as Bitcoin is the heart of this project. The open-source greenhouse will eventually provide food, jobs, and stability to the Haida Gwaii nation. The greenhouses will be built in the longhouse style of the Haida Gwaii. The roofs of the structures are large and will be covered with solar panels, the panels will provide energy to the Bitcoin miners and any excess will be sold back to the grid. The miners housed inside will proved heat for the growing operations, allowing growers to plant an array of crops. Pleb Miner Month Finale

FullE

Pleb Miner Month Finale We did it! We managed to present and entire month (ahem, make that 2 months) of mining content focused on the Pleb Miner. Max, Jon, and Sarah took on the task of herding cats in this #PlebMinerMonth finale featuring: @SalGoodHODL, @hashing2heating, @406Bitcoin, @techengineer21, @DCentralTech, @pwmarcinko, @BingBong_BTC, @ZuccThis, @KaboomracksAlex, @bitcoinbassload, @btctwatterpants, and @Schnitzel. #PlebMinerMonth started out as a proposal to feature Pleb Miners at a mining conference and grew into so much more. Max and Jon merely set the wheels in motion, the #PlebMinerMonth crew took it from there and as the month rolled on, more and more Plebs hopped on the train. Now it’s a perpetual motion machine speeding along under its own power. We launched #PlebMinerMonth with Jon’s “What is a Pleb Miner” Bitesize Bitcoin and a pod with Max and @Diverter_NoKYC. The launch was fitting as many Pleb Miners were inspired to do so because of Diverter’s “Mining for the Streets’ article. Just as Mining for the Streets kicked off many into mining, we hope that #PlebMinerMonth will do the same for a new generation of miners. During the month we featured articles from @Smidnico, @Marketsbylili, @Schnitzel, energy market updates from @bitcoinbassload, as well as Stormcrow from @SovrnBitcoiner. A BlackBox build guide from @YooperHODL, Bitesize Bitcoins from @BingBong_BTC and @ZuccThis and several awesome interviews, some that have yet to air! We gave away ASIC miners from @Kaboomracks, @pwmarcinko, @btctwatterpants, @406Bitcoin, @DCentralTech, @mrcdbrown3 and Jon. We were moved at the willingness of Plebs to #HashTheTorch. We awarded UngovernableMisfits.com gear such as Pleb Miner Skull t-shirts and hoodies, and gear donated by @onthebrinkie from @NoderunnersShop. Braiins was a major sponsor of the month, they donated limited edition clothing, Bitcoin mining handbooks, and a very generous amount of sats to cover the shipping for all the giveaways. @ZuccThis donated 3D printed fans shrouds from ASICFanShrouds.com. We also gave away @SeedSigner build kits, @FOUNDATIONdvcs Passports, and a @RoninDojoNode Bakuto. The amount of equipment and prizes that we were able to distribute to the Plebs was more than we expected. It was due to the incredible generosity of the Bitcoin Pleb movement that we had the privilege of dishing out the swag. Thank You from Max, Mr. Crown, Jon, and Sarah to everyone listed above as well as: @TheGianMendoza, @artdesignbySF, @HodlRev, @bitcoinbabybee, @BonHodl, @stillBTC, @urningushem, and @x218935 and of course thank you to the Plebs who listened, interacted with us on Fountain and Twitter, and read the articles. You have inspired us more that you can ever know, LFG!!!

AI Pro Energy & CoinHeated

FullE

AI Pro Energy & CoinHeated In this #PlebMinerMonth Episode we speak with Anton from AIPro Energy and CoinHeated. They have partnered on production of Coin Heated’s HotBox Liu, an innovative pump-free immersion tank built exclusively for Bitmain Antminer S19s. Coin Heated tells of the development of the HotBox and its unique features. The HotBox Liu hold 6 S19s (3 on each side). The machines are placed exhaust side down into the tank and rest upon stands that keeps the bottom elevated. The stock axial fans remain on the machines while the rear fans are removed. The oil flow is pulled through the machines as opposed to traditional immersion designs which allow fluid to simply rise through the machines or make use of external pumps that push the oil through. The oil is pulled through the cards and across the ASIC chips, the oil is the forced to the center where it meets the force of oil from the opposing machines. The oil is forced through the heat exchangers located in the center of the tank and cooled. The dielectric coolant in the tank comes to a soft rolling bubble, keeping the oil and therefore the ASIC chips at a steady temperature. The heat exchangers are the head of a water cooled or water/glycol mix secondary loop. The operator of a HotBox Liu has several options from there on how to cool that secondary loop. A dry cooler, chiller, and geothermal loop are a few of the options. An operator is not limited to how they cool that secondary loop, and the system lends itself better than most immersion system to engage in heat capture rather than purely cleansing the system of waste heat. The HotBox Liu can be used as a peripheral within AI Pro Energy’s suite of containers. Hotboxes can be stacked or rather racked within an open system or in a container. AIPro Energy manufactures a wide array of mining services from off-grid miners including genset procurement to home miners and they provide data center services and automation as well. Mining bitcoin with unreliable power.

FullE

Hello ungovernable misfits. TensaiBankai here bringing you another Bitsized bitcoin. Today I am going to be talking a little about mining here in south africa with unreliable power. South Africa has had a load shedding crisis for almost a decade now. A problem that has been getting worse over time as the state decays. This means that for multiple hours or time-slots during the day we have our power cut for up to 8 hours a day where our power cuts last between 2 to 4 hours at a time. This has made things somewhat “complicated” when it comes to mining. When I have not been paying attention, the constant power interruptions have been somewhat destructive to my computing components. Losing multiple graphic, cards, motherboards and power supply units, a washing machine. When I first got my miners I decided to become a little bit more cautious with what I was doing around the home. Not only are these machines quite expensive, our import duties are extremely high. Not to mention the difficulty of acquiring replacement parts locally. Specific attention needs to be put in place to ensure that you get the most out of your machines for as long as possible. This means that the first thing that happens when a miner is connected here, is that all the plugs get replaced with surge protection plugs. I also ensure that none of the miners are sharing circuits with other electronics or appliances. I have had multiple issues in my office area, that when the power turns back on, circuits end up tripping because of the high current draw as certain things turn on. Many people would look at this difficulty that I experience doing this, the high electricity costs and ask why would anyone want to mine in these conditions. I will say that I am a bit of a zealot when it comes to bitcoin. I like that I have some KYC Free sats that I earned by exchanging electricity for SATS. I also like that mining, even at a loss, can have certain… tax advantages. Not to mention, that this entire winter, bitcoin kept me warm. There is also the issue that I see, with so many South Africans going off the grid, our only state owned power provider is really losing many of its highest power consuming customers. This means that they make less money, which in turn means that they either make up the shortfall by borrowing more, increasing electricity rates or failing in other areas. Selfishly, I can see myself helping them to limp along as long as possible until it can no longer go on. Fortunately, this has been going on for long enough that the power cuts adhere somewhat loosely to a schedule. The schedules are designed in a way that different suburb groups are targeted at different times every day ensuring that not the same group of suburbs have their power turned off when it’s time to make dinner. This is further complicated by the stage of load shedding which increases the amount of times you get loadshedded in a day. So, I find myself spending a bit of time looking at schedules. Some Industrious South Africans have made an app called Eskom Se Push which alerts you when your suburb is going to be load shedded as well as letting you know any changes to the load shedding schedule. Since I work from home this allows me to know when I should stop mining and turn off my asics. Stopping the ASIC allows the ASIC fans to cool the hashboards down instead of letting them get cooled by passive ambient radiation, which is the case when the power is suddenly turned off. It’s even worse when your miner is in an enclosed space. Recently, however, I started leaving the home quite frequently for a few hours at a time and this means that if I am scheduled to go down, say in 6 hours from now, I would miss out on 6 hours possible luck if I were to preemptively power down before i leave. It's not something that I enjoy doing. So, what did I do? I wrote some software which allows me to use the whatsminer API to remotely connect to my whatsminer and turn off the mining remotely as I have VPN access to my home network. Hopefully, when I find some more time in the future, I will be able to connect this up to a telegram bot, which will allow me some finer control and not necessarily rely on using my VPN. What would I do if I didn’t have a schedule? Well, I most probably wouldn’t be running any of the newer generation miners at all. Because even when throttled, they still use quite a bit of power and the boards heat up quite a bit. It’s an undesirable situation for me if they heat up quite a bit and get their power cut repeatedly. S9s are way more suited for this purpose. Not only are the machines robust as hell, when braiins (with two Is) firmware is loaded, you can throttle the machines down all the way to 100 watts. I would also probably be running multiple S9s to try and make up for the shortfall in overall hash. This would allow me to set a temperature of the asic to a level that I would be happy with should an immediate disconnect of power occur. Failing that, the other way o

Mining KYC Free Sats (BingBong Bitesize Bitcoin)

BingBong Bitesize Bitcoin Mining KYC Free Sats Acquiring ASICs and pointing them at a pool is the initial step to acquire KYC Free sats through mining. There are pools that require KYC information, but many that do not, DYOR. Lincoin Pool and Braiins Pool only require an email address. It has been said that buying Bitcoin on an exchange is like going to the bathroom and leaving the stall door open. Anybody that comes in the bathroom can see you. Growing bitcoin with Moses

FullE

In this #PlebMinerMonth episode of @BitBuyBit, Jon sits down with Moses of Living Power Generation Technology. Moses is working on monetizing agricultural waste with Bitcoin mining powered by syngas, derived from biomass pyrolysis. Moses’ system uses a crop called Azolla. Azolla can be used as animal feed or biomass and is easily grown with little inputs. The even can purify the water in which it’s grown. The use of Azolla as a source of animal feed, biomass, and fertilizer can replace the need to use petrochemical fertilizers and industrial agricultural methods. This can empower the sovereign farmer to detether from chemical supply chains. Harnessing the syngas byproduct can also empower every farmer to become a Bitcoin miner. Fun times in Riga and mobile competition for peer-to-peer bitcoin exchanges. Bitcoin Monthly with BQA and Antomous Bitcoin monthly 0020 In today’s episode I spoke to BQA and Antomous about how much fun they had at the Baltic Honeybadger 2022 conference in Riga. BQA gave a talk during the event for bitcoin beginners and Antomous had a booth representing SeedSigner and Vulcan21. It seems it was a pure bitcoiner event with a high signal-to-noise ratio. One of the larger announcements of the conference was the mobile only peer-to-peer bitcoin exchange “peach”. BQA had the chance to test the app and goes into detail on the setup and workflow. Although we love Bisq and Robosats, this is exactly what we have been waiting for. The app is currently still in beta, but we shouldn’t have to wait long for the official release. Speaking of Bisq, they released a minor update with a lot of small improvements. We also talked about two major updates from the two big players in lightning: CLN and LND. MyNode is also working hard to close the gap to the marketplace-based platforms in the node implementation competition and Trezor has finally integrated coin control. To wrap up Antomous let us know that the SeedSigner is finally available again at Vulcan21 and that they are putting out a daily Twitter guide series on handling a SeedSigner. Braiin Power with Jan Capek

FullE

The month of September is dedicated to pleb miners who will not unplug nor comply. The backbone of the bitcoin network, dedicated to decentralisation and freedom. On this #PlebMinerMonth episode of the pod, Jon and I speak with @BraiinsMining co-founder and CTO, Jan Capek. Jan is an embedded devices engineer and the father of the Braiins OS firmware and BOSminer software. Jan dives deep into the development of firmware and the challenges he and his development team encounter when attempting to modify machines without the assistance of the manufacturers. We cover Braiins’ (SlushPool) role in UASF and how stratum V2 enhances security, efficiency, flexibility, and decentralization of mining. We also discuss the development of the BaiinsOS+ firmware, and the advantages it can bring to a mining operator. We discuss the rebranding of SlushPool to Braiins Pool under the Braiins brand umbrella. We dove deep on a lot of topics in this one, the only thing we didn’t cover was “when”. The Braiins team has been a great partner in #PlebMinerMonth, they have sent swag for us to give away as prizes, several of their Bitcoin Mining Handbooks, as well as financial support to ship all of the gear and prizes out to the Pleb. A special thanks to Kristian Csepcsar for helping to organize everything and thank you to Jan and the rest of the Braiins team for your support of #PlebMinerMonth. IT & Telecom the Backbone of the Bitcoin Network

Full

IT & Telecom the Backbone of the Bitcoin Network In this episode Jon talks with IT expert @SalGood HODL about the backbone of the Bitcoin network, the global telecommunications network. Jon and Sal cover the history of telecommunications and information technology and its journey from telegraph to the infinitesimally complicated network of fiber, copper/aluminum, and satellites that comprise the internet. They discuss the organizations the govern or run the internet like: ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) a non-profit based in California, IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) run/owned by ICANN who are responsible for allocation of IP addresses and Autonomous System Numbers, root domain name system and top-level domains. Jon & Sal describe the Regional Internet Registry. They are the 5 regional organizations around the globe that facilitate the allocation of IP addresses and ASNs to local registries and ISPs. RIRs are independent of ICANN and supervised/guided by the Number Resource Organization, which is an unincorporated international organization. The 3-Tier ISP system is covered by Sal. The 3-Tier ISP system consists of Tier I — backbone providers who own/operate high speed/bandwidth, multi-continent networks, transoceanic cabling and do not pay or charge data transit fees with their like-peers. Tier 2 — Typically regional/national ISPs pay for transit and peering with tier I and tier 2 providers, customers are typically large organizations and tier 3 ISPs. Tier 3 — Primarily engaged in providing Internet access to consumers and businesses in localized areas, they pay access and transit from tier 2 providers. IPv4 address space are described. An IPV4 looks like AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD where each block can be a number between 0-255 there are 232 total addresses, roughly 4.2 billion addresses. Nearly 600 million are reserved, so about 3.7 billion usable on the Internet and nearly 100% are already allocated globally. The IPv6 address space looks very complex. It uses hexadecimal notation 0-9+A-F, blocks of zeros can be omitted 2 28 total addresses. If you assumed each star had 10 planets, each galaxy had 100 billion stars, and the universe had 100 billion galaxies, there would be roughly 3.4 quadrillion (1000 trillion's) IPv6 addresses for each planet. What makes the Internet? Layers like in a cake or maybe the Taco Bell 7-Layer Burrito. l . TCP/IP Model — Less complex than OSI l. Network Connection Layer 2, Internet Layer 3. Transport Layer 4, Application Layer 2. OSI Model — 7 layers, breaks TCP/IP layers into more parts l. Network Connection Layer —+ Physical layer and Data Link Layer Internet Layer —9 Network Layer Transport Layer —+ Transport, Session and Presentation Layers 4, Application Layer —+ Application Layer Sal describes how systems and applications communicate by laying out the Application Layer Protocols. Like spoken languages, these protocols have grammar rules; a vocabulary that create standards to convey meaning between parties. Different protocols are optimized for purpose specific communications. Bitcoin is protocol optimized for secure communication of value between parties. #HashTheTorch

Full

#HashTheTorch My first foray into mining was sometime in late 2011/2012. At that time Bitcoin Core had mining functionality and mining on a PC was relatively simple. I didn’t take the time to truly understand Bitcoin then. Me being an intensely paranoid individual was distrusting of this software using my computer’s GPU to solve an algorithm, didn’t read the white paper and didn’t join any chat rooms or social networks to connect with others involved in Bitcoin. I regrettably uninstalled the software not to return to Bitcoin until 2017 and not to mine again until 2019, couldn’t even tell you if I am responsible for some orphaned Bitcoin. In those 8 years we had 3 kids but let something like 450,000 block slip past me. That’s okay, I don’t cry myself to sleep every night because of regret, anymore. I have a nice mining setup now and I don’t consider it healthy the live a life of regret. I can reflect though. Perhaps I should have joined one of those Bitcoin Nerd channels. I never had social media before Twitter, maybe I should’ve or at the very least done my research. So, what’s my point here? As the poet, John Donne wrote, “No Man is an Island, Entire of Itself. Every man is a piece of the continent. A part of the main.” And although I don’t live my life regretting past decisions, I can learn from them. It wasn’t until I left that island or at least connected it to the main, that I learned the true nature of Bitcoin and its unique properties. It wasn’t until I began to research and read articles written by so many hard-working Plebs who were willing to pass on the torch of knowledge to others that I finally understood this technology we revere. And it wasn’t until further study that I realized my place within it, was mining. By then the S9 was a couple of years old and it wasn’t difficult to find one. I learned a lot over the next couple of years about mining. I quite enjoyed the experience and by 2021 I had 6 S9s running in my garage. Like many at that time, I saw the China exodus as a good time to upgrade my setup. I acquired 5 s19 and am now up to 6. Now what to do with those S9s I had laying around? I suppose I could have sold them, but I was busy tinkering with my home heating projects and working… and of course, numbing my mind by bullshitting with all of you on Twitter. I decided I’m going to give some machines away. I gave 2 S9s to my partner at work. I have been orange pilling him for years and HE thought it would be fun to dip his toes into mining, the heat reuse case was a big draw for him. The joy I felt when he showed me his mining setup was exciting. It was the perfect situation for him, a mechanic and a farmer, mining suited his skill set. I later sent a machine to a friend in Texas that was at risk of losing his job over vax mandates and I thought maybe the machine could help him out. That’s about the time I became more vocal on Twitter and the Telegram groups… and began answering simple home-mining questions. I prefer to just communicate on DM’s regarding mining rather than wade through the string of backlogged Telegram messages. In discussions with Plebs, I always felt myself saying, “well I’ll send you an S9 and you can mess around with it and find out if you like home mining or have an interest in it.” “Then once you learn you can send it back or because shipping is so much just hand it off to someone else.” I’m not unique in this, I’ve seen the generosity in the mining community, truly some of the best people are in mining, especially Pleb Miners. I had the idea to call it HashTheTorch, seemed like a fun name for what everyone was doing. I gave another S9 away to a buddy of mine who is a machinist and was helping me out with my immersion project. This HashingTheTorch is fun. I saw Barnminer making strides in the same direction as well with his S9 lending program at local meetups, which certainly solves the shipping dilemma. It kind of all hit me at that point, The No Man is an Island concept, the connected decentralized network concept, the Plebs helping Plebs idea. Don’t let someone just up and quit on Bitcoin without understanding it as I did in over a decade ago. HashTheTorch of knowledge, HashTheTorch are these machines that don’t mean much to us beyond being able to offload them for a few bucks, or holding for whatever reason. When Max and I came up with the idea of PlebMinerMonth it was just supposed to be a few pods with cool Pleb miners, a few Bitesize Bitcoins, and FUD Busters, and a couple of articles to give Plebs another resource to get into mining. It quickly morphed into what it is today and is developing a life of its own. One of the biggest surprises, (though I shouldn’t be surprised given the quality of Plebs in the mining community) was the outpouring of support from other miners who too wanted to pass the torch. We’re early in the first iteration of PlebMinerMonth and we already have 10 machines to give away. So many miners are offering not only HashTheTorch of unused

3D printing parts for Bitcoin mining with @ZuccThis

Full

3D printing parts for Bitcoin mining with @ZuccThis What's up guys? zucc_this here with another byte-sized bitcoin. Lets get right into it and talk about 3d printing and how it can be leveraged for home mining and general individual sovereignty. To start I'd like to make a comparison of home 3d printing to bitcoin. One aspect of bitcoin that makes it a powerful tool for the sovereign individual is its' ability to dis-intermediate the traditional financial system. Likewise, 3d printing is a way to side-step the legacy plastics manufacturing industry. Typically plastic goods are made with injection moulding ñ an expensive process that really only makes sense at scale. Injection moulding still has its place, but 3d printing allows you to print nearly anything you can dream up at home. Of course, there are engineering and practical limitations. These days you can get an Ender 3 3d printer that works fairly well for 200 USD on Amazon. For the more serious mining pleb $1000 can get you a Prusa which is a workhorse that will run day after day and produce amazing results. The most obvious application for home Bitcoin mining is in producing fan shrouds. For most in-home ASIC installs we need to direct the heat somewhere. I measured the temp in the duct from my Whatsminer maybe 6 feet from the duct and had 140∞ F. Bitcoin ASICs are primarily designed to be run at scale in mining farms where heat mitigation is handled MUCH differently than we do at home. There are many clever individuals out they're doing cool shit with their excess heat but the most simple method (though not always easy) is to duct the heat outside or into an existing HVAC system. To go from the miner to an HVAC duct you need a shroud or fan adapter that goes between the exhaust fan and the duct. These are easily printed by most consumer grade machines in PETG. Iím not even gonna try to pronounce its actual chemical name but suffice to say this is a material than can withstand the heat from the miner. There are several resources out there that offer up the files for MicroBT and Bitmain ASICS for free. In my personal setup I had to add a couple fans for the PSU on the intake side to keep things cool, and with a little CAD and 3d printing I was able to design brackets to get the airflow exactly where I need it. I also designed and printed a hold/cold side barrier the helps keep cool airflow where it needs to be. With winter coming I also need to re-design my ducting that leads to the cold air return duct in my furnace. Last winter I was able to heat my home entirely with 2 M30s Whatsminers. I have an average size 2 story home in the frozen north of the US where itís not uncommon to see sub-zero temps. My new duct setup will need some funky duct adapters and bends due to the layout of my basement. This is where 3d printing and the ability to CAD really shines. Most of these home mining setups are quite unique and there aren't many cookie cutter solutions that work out of the box. I've also seen some pretty interesting usage of 3d printing in immersion setups. That said, the sky REALLY is the limit. Aside from Bitcoin mining projects having the ability to 3d print and design things for myself has been an absolute game changer. I've been able to repair many things around the house that would normally get tossed ñ this helps justify the mini-print farm I have going to my wife. I also have a focus on 3d printed firearms. If code is free speech how do we protect our right to speech? In a world of ever increasing gun control the work by 3d printed gun devs is invaluable. Will Bitcoin alone take down ñ or at least scale back ñ the state? I don't think so. Will 3d printed firearms stop authoritarians from authoritarian shit? Nah. Much like Bitcoin, 3d printing is a tool that is accessible to ANYONE who is seeking to carve out a little freedom for themselves. Use the tools. Later. If you have any questions please reach out. Rust Belt Home Miners with BingBong_BTC and Jon

FullE

Rust Belt Home Miners In this episode Jon travels to a rural part of the Rust Belt, USA to interview Pleb Miner BingBong_BTC. BingBong is not only a home miner, but a heat wrangler, harnessing the waste heat created by his machines. Meeting fellow Plebs face to face carries significant importance, especially when a nym is willing to not only sit down and discuss Bitcoin, but to invite you into his home, show you his mining and privacy setups, and treat you like an honored guest. BingBong entered the Bitcoin arena though friends, interested in all things “crypto” , it didn’t take long for him to realize there is only one. He obtained sats through the normal KYC channels like Swan, but once again a quick learner, understood the necessity in seeking KYC free options. The Samourai team was an inspiration and building a Ronin dojo was the logical next step. Brother Rabbit and Q & A were of help during his journey. Mining seemed like the logical next step on the Bitcoin journey to enlightenment. First with dreams of mining that sweet corn, he later grew to a greater understanding and took meaning in understanding mining’s role in the Bitcoin network. With the aid of guides from the likes of EconoAlchemist and Diverter, BingBong developed the knowledge and confidence necessary to mine. He purchased his first machines from MineFarmBuy and was underway. He and his partner learned the lessons needed to mitigate heat as well as others and were hooked. After ordering more machines they attempted a build inspired by EconoAlchemist he calls the “Hash Hut”. The Hash Hut. The Hash BingBong built in an enclosure comprised of a baker’s rack encased in foam board. The bottom of the enclosure is open to take in filtered air into the machines which are placed vertically. The intake and exhaust of the machines is separated by a barrier so as not to recirculate the waste heat. The entirety of the airflow is then directed outside via an attic fan. BingBong can lower the power of his exhaust fan to allow his two 6’ take offs at the top of the hut connected to inline fans to direct heat to where it is needed. Bitcoin mining and getting paid to take showers with @Schnitzel

The month of September is dedicated to pleb miners who will not unplug nor comply. The backbone of the bitcoin network, dedicated to decentralisation and freedom. I had the pleasure of speaking with Michael Schmid about home mining and getting paid to take showers. Michael has been finding innovative ways to use the waste heat created from mining to his advantage. Bitcoin Mining for the Streets with @Diverter_NoKYC

Full

The month of September is dedicated to pleb miners who will not unplug nor comply. The backbone of the bitcoin network, dedicated to decentralisation and freedom. Today I caught up with Diverter, the godfather of Pleb mining to talk about mining for the streets and why it’s more relevant now than ever. Here’s the opening paragraphs to jog your memory in case you have forgotten. Don’t fall victim to the narrative pushers that would have you believe mining is “too hard”, “too expensive”, or “better left to the big players”. Sounds an awful lot like the same thing bankers and governments tell the masses about fiat money and economics now, doesn’t it? For years the narrative that has been pushed regarding Bitcoin mining is that it’s a fool’s game, better left to the professional mining farms and big players due to shrinking profitability. This guide aims to show that this is overly simplistic and narrow-minded in its view. In fact, as ways to acquire BTC without going through the dangerous KYC/AML verification process shrink, mining becomes more and more intriguing for the average user. By having the ability to create an account with no real verification required, you can simply hook up ASIC miners, plug them into a mining pool, and begin receiving payouts for your provided hashpower directly into your personally controlled Bitcoin wallet without providing any KYC/AML identifying data to be scraped. If you haven’t already read this incredible article I suggest you check it out and click the link below. Pleb Miner Redux – What is a Bitcoin Miner?

Full

Pleb Miner Redux – What is a Bitcoin Miner. The month of September is dedicated to pleb miners who will not unplug nor comply. The backbone of the bitcoin network, dedicated to decentralisation and freedom. To kick things off @JonPDiGiacomo explains - what is a pleb miner…… “Who and What is a Pleb Miner” The original Bitcoin miner, Satoshi Nakamoto mined the Genesis Block with a reward of 50 Bitcoin, Bitcoin that can’t be spent as the Genesis Block is hardcoded into new nodes as the root of the blockchain. The signature of his mining was later analyzed by Sergio Lerner. He dubbed Satoshi’s miner as Patoshi and its signature as the “Patoshi Pattern”. The technique that Lerner used determined that Patoshi hashed a different set range of nonces. This behavior created a unique saw pattern in nonce data analysis. It’s estimated that he had up to 48 CPUs mining with another controlling the operation and/or on standby to protect against a 51% attack. Satoshi mined solo until he invited Hal Finney and Martti Malmi to join the network. Famously on January 10, 2009, at 10:33 PM, Hal Finney was “Runnin’ Bitcoin”. Soon others joined in. It’s fascinating to look back at those first blocks: difficulty of 1, block reward 50 BTC, the delicate balance of the 10-minute mark not quite there yet. In reviewing this short Bitcoin history lesson, we bring light to the fact that Satoshi wasn’t running a giant mining operation with a cool name, a board with multiple investors, and billions in capital expenditures. He was possibly a guy in his basement or garage that he considered his lab. He shared the code with associates he knew online. Their goal was to discover blocks and secure the network. He mined because he was passionate about the innovation that he built. He was the original miner, he was a Pleb Miner. Sometime in May of 2010, Satoshi turned off the Patoshi miner, confident that he had passed the torch on to the next generation of miners…….. Link to full article bellow. Bitcoin not buttcoin. Demonetising butt plugs with MTC

Full

During the last bitcoin monthly I recorded with brother Rabbit and Antomous. we discussed Border wallets after listening to an incredible talk by MTC. I just had to get the exclusive with MTC who has teamed up with superphatarrow to create border wallets, a system to help users store private keys in their head allowing them to cross borders undetected and protected from attackers. Many people across the globe have to flee their countries to escape from war stricken countries or dictatorships. Many other users need to escape domestic violence or natural disaster, the system that MTC has come up with makes it possible for anyone to take their wealth with them even if they have nothing else. It is also very useful for inheritance planning and I just love how creative users can get with this. As always it was a pleasure speaking to MTC and I’d advise anyone listening to check this project out and if you find it of use I’d also urge anyone listening to consider donating to keep the project going. Mining Bitcoin and swimming in sats with @techengineer21

Full

Mining Bitcoin and swimming in sats I had the pleasure of speaking to Tech Engineer a bitcoin mining pleb who has built a fully functional swimming pool heating system using bitcoin miners, immersion tanks and automation to thermostatically control everything. Tech engineers focus is on privacy, security and the ability to double spend energy to heat while mining Bitcoin. In this episode we discus Tech’s rabbit hole journey and why mining was so interesting for him, we also discussed the need for decentralising the network and helping smaller miners compete by using the heat produced by mining for something productive. I really enjoyed speaking to Tech and I hope you enjoy listening. I have decided to also add transcripts at the bottom of the show notes as some people have told me this would be useful. Transcripts might not be perfect but they should be pretty good. Um I try and find always people who are doing interesting things and not just the usual podcast circuit and I came across your profile and saw your video you'd done um on this immersion tank and. Pool heating and is something I discussed ages ago with a mate of mine a mate like me with no technical ability and it was just like a thing we talked about but we're too dumb to actually do it. We're like fuck. Someone's got to do this. This is something that's got to happen just makes so much sense and when I saw yours I was like fuck I just need to speak to you and. 01:25.59 TechEngineer And. 01:44.12 maxbuybit1 You know, find a little bit more out because this is the future. It's fucking cool. 01:51.23 TechEngineer So right on man. Yeah, let's let's talk about it. 01:59.56 maxbuybit1 So Yeah I mean um, less so we can do rabbit hole stuff later On. Let's just dive straight in with with what you've been doing Obviously I've seen the video but. For anyone who hasn't can you sort of describe the project and and and what made you decide to do it. 02:33.79 TechEngineer Yeah, absolutely so let me start with a little background. Um back in 2017 was when I kind of went down the bitcoin rabbit hole. It was November of None I heard on the radio bitcoin cross $10000 and I was like. What is going on with this. Um and I was I was instantly intrigued and wanted to look into it more and immediately was drawn to the technology aspect of it and the mining aspect of it. Um. So I started looking into mining and at that time. Ah the miners went up in cost dramatically kind of similar to what happened in 20202021 and I tried to put to order a miner and it. It got delayed and that eventually just never shipped. Um, but there it so it was ah an it was an expensive endeavor for me to get into but I was still very interested. But at the time I knew like I was living in Colorado and I wanted to somehow use the heat that was. Being put off of these devices because I knew they put just put out a ton of heat. So that time I was thinking well maybe I'll just put in my basement and ducked something up to my upstairs long story short. It never ended up up working out just because the miner never showed up and then um. Price kind of dumped and then we went into a bear market and the profitability equation changed and I just decided that I just couldn't I didn't get into it at that time but that kind of built in the back of my mind like. 05:54.36 maxbuybit1 Here. 06:16.35 TechEngineer Want to mine. It's important for the bitcoin ecosystem for mining to be very decentralized but we need some sort of other factor that helps it be more productive to like a home miner so hard using the heat was in my mind. So fast forward to 2021? Um I finally decided you know what I need to just take the plunge here and start building a heater out of a minor so I don't know if you saw my original video but it was a a minor that I put inside of a box. And then aducted into my hvac system my heater my the heater in my house and then I put in some dampers and thermostatically controlled the airflow from the heater from the from the miner into my heater. So I basically he did my entire house all winter using using this system. So I'm I'm guessing you haven't seen that one I
