Running a bitcoin node for the streets with Zelko from RoninDojo
FullEIn this episode I spoke with Zelko the Co-Founder of RoninDojo. We discuss the origins of the project and what spurred him and the team on to build and continue improving the project. Ive been running RD for the past 4 years and have been amazed at the development, with the latest release v2.4.0 users now have full control of Whirlpool CLI from the UI! As a long term user I'm very happy to see this. I talked to Zelko about how it was implemented as well as covering what a beautiful job Dojo Coder @PavelTheCoder has done on the UI. I could bang on in the show notes all day about what an incredible job the team has done but I'm a dyslexic F%CK and you are going to listen to the show anyway. The main takeaway is the Ronin team build my favourite node implementation in the bitcoin space and haven’t forgotten that bitcoin is for the streets. We will be holding a spaces in the next week for an open discussion with anybody with questions, feedback or who just wants to talk bitcoin and freedom with us. Bitcoin privacy defenders. Samourai community discussion on using the tools and never bending the knee.
FullEThis episode is from a live recording I did with Samourai (Samourai wallet) Zelko (Ronin Dojo) and the community following a discussion we had on a recent podcast about the release of Sentinel, a watch only wallet created by Samourai wallet. We decided to do a follow up and open the discussion to listeners who had questions or feedback and it was a great success. I know from personal experience that the world of Bitcoin privacy and security can be daunting and frustrating at times. We want to help people use the best tools available to actually use bitcoin. Having these open discussions really helps dispel myths and encourage use. Its always good to have these conversations with people who stand for freedom and refuse to bend the knee. We will be running another podcast and open discusion again next month and we would love to hear from you. Here’s the link to the original episode for those who missed it and show notes bellow. https://ungovernablemisfits.com/podcast/exploring-sentinel/ Sentinel is an open source watch only wallet that allows users to track offline, cold storage, and paper wallets without needing private keys. Users of sentinel can keep an eye on all balances and transactions as well as generating receive addresses without exposing private keys or reducing security. Your offline bitcoin wallet may eventually need to send a transaction, now you don’t have to compromise the security of your offline wallet by bringing it online, you can Use Sentinel to maintain the air gap. Samourai gave us the history of sentinel and where its going in the future and Zelko helped me understand the interaction between RoninDojo and sentinel, why its so seamless and fast. Ive been testing it over the past week and it is blazing fast as well as incredibly simple to use. Im enjoying the layout and being able to track all balances in one place. As is to be expected this is bitcoin software that is built to be used without revealing your identity or information that could leave you vulnerable to attacks. Native Tor integration, PSBTs, simple Dojo pairing and generating receive addresses from all tracked wallets are just some of the many incredible features. We are going to be running a spaces around a week after this episode goes live and would love to hear from you. If you have questions or feedback please join the conversation. I will announce the date and time in the next few days. “You can’t live in a bitcoin.” Ben Gunn Returns as Atlas Shrugs.
FullEIn case you missed our first conversation or want to re listen, heres the link. https://ungovernablemisfits.com/podcast/bitcoin-wins-faster-through-collaboration-with-antomousb-copy/ Ben Gunn Returns as Atlas Shrugs Intro Quote: “The Solution to Pollution is Dilution” --Ben Gunn Show Description Our friend and fellow pleb, Ben Gunn returns to the show after a testing couple of years in Bitcoin and the wider world, to share what has worked for him, what hasn't, and his thoughts and plans for the future. This is a fantastic follow-up interview to first episode we did in 2021, which if you haven't heard, you must and is here. In this episode, Max and Ben take a stroll around the park in Amsterdam, Netherlands to catch up on what he's been up to since we last met on his woodland back in simpler times. We kick off by reviewing life in the Fiat Mines, and how things are deteriorating in day to day work and relationships. Red tape, higher costs of getting stuff done, how the average person is affected and how it can't continue forever. We discuss the transformational power of acknowledging negative observations and turning them into positive actions. How there are just some things that we have no ability to influence or control, and that it's okay to switch off the doom vendors and focus on what you can build in reply. Getting fit and staying focussed on what's really important. We address the problem of when it's the right time to quit and where it's best to relocate in an increasingly uncertain world. The attractiveness of new locations such as El Salvador, and how leaving a broken system behind can fix many things, but not everything, and how it's all part of a much bigger cycle. The growing relevance of Atlas Shrugged to the world we're seeing around us, and what we can learn from the novel in today's context. We also announce a new project – a series of future shows that will analyse the book from the perspectives of Bitcoiners and as living people in a world of zombies, and help a new reader get to the end! We finish off talking about the pro's and con's of Bitcoin conferences and podcast business models, the pro's and con's of advertising based income vs Value for Value approach. We talk about the risk shifting behaviour of the dominant podcasts, and the impact on the listener's finances, as well as the overwhelming generosity and support of our own loyal fan base. Key Takeaways: The Fiat Mines are getting harder to work in. Where to focus your attention and turn a negative situation into a positive outcome. Meeting Bitcoiners in real life can be an amazing experience, but you can't trust everyone. Zombies are real and how we should be thinking about that in our real lives. Atlas Shrugged is a book written for our times, and we all should learn who John Galt is. Risk shifting behaviour in Bitcoin Podcasts and Conferences, and what to do about it. Bitcoin mining and diesel engines with Travis Bitckle
FullEPleb Miner in the Wild Travis Bitckle Listen you fuckers, you screw heads, here is a man who would not take it anymore. A man who stood up against the central bankers, the cunts, the dogs of war, the filth that is the global elite, the shit who devalue our currency, and steal the fruits of our labor. Here is someone who stood up and took Bitcoin Mining into his own hands. Here is, Travis Bitckle, Pleb Miner in the Wild. Travis is a Pleb Miner extraordinaire, a mad scientist tinkerer and a hell of a nice guy. He has built many iterations of home mining setups. His most common build is an AC Infinity fan cooled miner, coupled to the rig via a Fruits and Associates Fan Shroud and a Njord Board from Pivotal Pleb Tech. (If you’d like to hear the story of Zack Bomsta and the Njord Board check out Zack’s Pleb Miner in the Wild interview) Travis’ newest build is a single board, 120v build, with a custom housing, fan design, and the use of Zack Bomsta’s Loki Kit. Travis wrote an article detailing the custom build. It can be viewed on our website. Travis’ 120V miner build on Ungovernable Misfits. Travis and Jon take the conversation is a few different directions, from automotive topics, specifically related to Volkswagen (VW) Diesel engines, turbocharging, and the use of vegetable oil as dual fuel. Here’s some more information on alternative fuel diesel engines from US Filter Maxx. They also discuss alternative sources of energy for Bitcoin mining like bio digesters and what the University of Wisconsin is doing in that area. They discuss their early political leanings, ranging from anarchy/punk to more conservative ideologies, neo-conservatism, and libertarianism. The conversation ends with a quote from Mr. Rogers about the importance of those who have cared for and shaped us throughout our lives. Travis wanted to share a special thanks to his wife, mother of his children, washer of his underwear, and the one who has loved him into the successful person and pleb miner he is today. Thanks Travis’ wife and thank you to all our loved ones who suffer through our Bitcoin mania. We love you all. “All of us have special ones that have loved us into being, would you just take along with me, ten seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are” “those who have cared about you and wanted what was best for you in life” – Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers). Growing Centralization of the Bitcoin Mining Sector Public corporations have rapidly dominated the mining sector, primarily through aggressive mergers and acquisitions. By establishing expansive industrial mining infrastructure and consuming incredible amounts of electricity, these entities have positioned themselves at the forefront of the industry. Their dominance is further solidified by their ability to secure funding via traditional Wall Street mechanisms, such as shareholder dilution and convertible notes. This financial leverage affords them several advantages, including procuring large machine orders at prices below market rates, benefiting from reduced transmission and distribution costs, thanks to high-voltage infrastructure, implementing power procurement strategies tailored to bitcoin mining. Such centralization can sideline smaller players, often referred to colloquially as the "plebs", pushing them to the periphery of the industry. Bitcoin is meant to be a P2P decentralized network. Centralization of mining is a justified concern. Bassload Update Turn Down for What!? Grid Harmony with Troy Cross and Bitcoin Bassload
FullETroy Cross and Bitcoin Bassload Treble + Bass = Energy Grid Harmony In this electrifying episode of BitBuyBit, Max and Jon speak with energy market expert and Pleb Miner Mafia Capo, Bitcoin Bassload as well as Philosopher and Bitcoin enthusiast Troy Cross from the Bitcoin Policy Institute. The relationship between Bitcoin mining and the American energy industry is complex, nuanced, wrought with acronyms, oversight, and regulation. The purpose of this conversation is to find where we agree and disagree on the relationship between Bitcoin mining and the energy industry and what we as Pleb Miners can do when our energy is focused and pointed in the same direction. Troy and Bassload come from different perspectives when looking at the relationship between Bitcoin mining and energy, but their hearts and minds are focused on making sure that Bitcoin wins. In this discussion Bassload defines terms like the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO), and Independent Systems Operators (ISO) and explains how regulation and government policy steer energy markets. He discusses the Physical Grid versus Policy Grid, balancing authorities, generation fleet mix, and Meredith Angwin’s fatal trifecta for the grid: over reliance on renewables, backing up the renewables with just in time resources, and overdependence on neighbors. Bassload offers advice on creating relationships with energy providers: 1. Print the load 2. Pay an invoice. Bitcoin Bassload’s Energy Market Inflows can be found on his Substack in which he puts out frequent updates. Troy discusses the unique characteristics of Bitcoin mining and its relationship with energy, particularly in the context of environmentalism and regulatory arbitrage. He highlights that Bitcoin's decentralized nature and algorithmically fixed production makes it resistant to local regulations and taxes. His point in conveying this, is that Bitcoin mining can take advantage of excess energy in regions with corrupt governments, it can bypass restrictions, and potentially disrupt the energy market. The discussion emphasizes that Bitcoin's fundamental value is tied to the cost of energy rather than fiat currency. Over the long term, government regulations and subsidies may not significantly impact Bitcoin mining, or its adoption. Troy expands on this theory in this recent article. Treble and Bass = Grid Harmony Terms and Definitions FERC- FERC was originally called the Federal Power Commission to then become the Federal Regulatory Commission created on October 1 1977. The FPA was originally designed to coordinate federal hydropower development (in 1920) then in 1935 it was given the independent regulatory status to then regulate both hydropower and electricity. Then in 1938 the natural gas act gave FPA jurisdiction over interstate NG pipelines and wholesale sales. FERC was created due to a response to the oil crisis of 1973 and thus passing the Department of Energy Organization act of 1977 in an effort to consolidate agencies into a ‘department of energy’. DOE was born. Congress insisted that the independent regulatory body be retained. FERC originally was to determine whether wholesale electricity prices were unjust and unreasonable If so regulate the pricing and give some refunds to ratepayers FERC an independent organization that its commissioners are appointed by the president and confirmed by the senate Order 888 was issued in 1996 which created the RTO’s (regional transmission organizations) in response to the Energy Policy Act in 1992. RTO’s- Organized by FERC to have what were the former power pools to ‘rebrand’ themselves as independent transmission operators that would be able to compete in a wholesale electric market administered by RTO’s. PJM, NYISO and ISONE were first in line. Like an ISO they operate transmission systems and develop innovative procedures to manage transmission equitably. ISO’s- Independent System Operators were designed to consolidate and manage the operation of transmission facilities to provide nondiscriminatory open transmission service for all generators and transmission customers. Traditional wholesale markets were in the SE, SW and NW and most were vertically integrated where they own generation, transmission and distribution systems to serve electricity consumers. They also many include federal systems: Bonneville Power System Tennessee Valley Authority Western Area Power Administration At the wholesale level, the RTO’s and the ISO’s is managing economic dispatch of generators and its auctions to the clearing price. Less expensive power gets dispatched first. RTO controls the bids, they know the cost of fuel, and they know the marginal cost of the next kwh your generator plant makes. One can add a risk premium to the bids but the RTO’s are checking. Dropping out vs dropping fiat for bitcoin and FOSS
FullEI had a conversation with Matt Rose - Head of marketing for Foundation devices about his entry into the bitcoin space after a career in traditional fiat marketing. Matt made the move to the bitcoin world after experiencing how fake the large corporations were and he explains in this episode how much ideas get watered down after going through all of the checklists to comply and stay woke. Now that Matt is working for Foundation devices things are very different. He’s excited to be working with a team that genuinely cares about privacy, security, freedom and bitcoin. We also talked about the issues facing young people working in today’s world and how there is a movement in China called laying flat Where people are deciding to drop out rather than spend their entire lives working with no chance of progressing or having the lives they had been told they could have after working hard at school and going to university. This is not just a trend in China is also happening in America and all across Europe, we discussed the ways that bitcoin can help and why this might just save an entire generation from living in quiet desperation. Finally, we touched on the process of creating and organising our ideas. Matt and I both like to keep notes and continually work on ideas and Matt gave me a few tips on using open source free software like obsidian to improve and create links between different projects that might otherwise be missed. Bitcoin fucks a chain spy in the park.
FullEBitcoin fucks a chain spy in the park. In this episode I met up with Brother Rabbit to discus the 1 sat stowaway torch him and samourai are running to help break on-chain heuristics. Stowaway is a form of peer-to-peer payjoin developed by Samourai Wallet where one party pays another, obscuring the transferred amount, breaking on-chain heuristics, with no server required to be run by the sending or receiving party. You can send and receive a Stowaway in Samourai Wallet and Sparrow Wallet. For the transaction, both parties participating provide input(s) into the transaction, and both parties receive an output. The transaction can either be carried out manually between the two parties in-person (doing the "QR code shuffle"), or remotely by quickly and automatically exchanging data between the two parties using Soroban; an app agnostic Tor based communications layer developed by Samourai Wallet. As the name "Stowaway" suggests it works to obscure the amount being sent from one person to another. By using inputs into the transaction from both parties this breaks the "common-input ownership heuristic" applied by chain analysis firms in an attempt to trace flow of funds. Common-input ownership heuristic; assumption that all inputs to a transaction are owned by the same entity/person. Stowaway's are not easily detectable on the bitcoin blockchain. The very fact that Stowaways exist on the blockchain adds doubt to all other transactions which have multiple inputs and two outputs (i.e. a simple spend). Huge crash in bitcoin signal! Save yourself NOW!! Use freedom bitcoin, FOSS and listen to BTCxZelko
FullEI Jumped on a call with Zelko the Co-founder of RoninDojo, A projected rooted in cypherpunk values and Inspired by FOSS. We talked about the projects and communities that inspire us as well as those that virtue signal and LARP. I always enjoy speaking with Zelko because he says it how it is and doesn’t just talk the talk. RoninDojo walks the walk. Here’s a brief overview of the project for those of you who are new to it or need reminding. The RoninDojo project has a strong focus on bitcoin, privacy, and sovereignty. They forked Samourai Wallet's Dojo code and were inspired by the Samourai privacy focused bitcoin wallet and its features, thus became RoninDojo. The creator of bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, stated in the whitepaper that bitcoin is “a purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash that would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution.” Following this ethos, the RoninDojo team mission is to bring the hardware and open source software together that enables the dream of “electronic cash”. We believe in providing a private, secure way for individuals to be their own bank, without trusting third party providers. Anyone should have the ability to use bitcoin privately, just like cash! The end goal is to be able to easily deploy the hardware and software needed to have a feature rich bitcoin experience, maintain personal privacy, and enable the sovereign individual to thrive. Who is behind RoninDojo? RoninDojo is built and maintained by the Samourai Wallet community. Everyone is encouraged to submit issues or changes to improve this free and open source software. The core maintainers oversee the development of RoninDojo as a whole. In short this is a team that provides hope for bitcoiners and inspiration for teams wanting to build real open source tools. Build an air-gapped, stateless Bitcoin signing device with the SeedSigner team.
FullEIn todays episode I spoke with SeedSigner (The man), Keith Mukai (Lead Dev) and Nick Klockenga (Lead maintainer) about the recent updates to the Seed signer project. Before we dive into it lets remind ourselves what the seed signer project is and why its so important. What is SeedSigner? SeedSigner offers anyone the opportunity to build a verifiably air-gapped, stateless Bitcoin signing device using inexpensive, publicly available hardware components (usually You can use SeedSigner to complete these tasks: Calculate word 12/24 of a BIP39 seed phrase Create a 24-word BIP39 seed phrase with 99 dice rolls Create a 24-word BIP39 seed phrase by taking a digital photo Temporarily store up to 3 seed phrases while device is powered Guided interface to manually create a SeedQR for instant input BIP39 passphrase / word 25 support Native Segwit Multisig XPUB generation w/ QR display Scan and parse transaction data from animated QR codes Sign transactions & transfer XPUB data using animated QR codes Live preview during photo-to-seed and QR scanning UX Optimized seed word entry interface Support for Bitcoin Mainnet & Testnet Support for custom user-defined derivation paths On-demand receive address verification User-configurable QR code display density Responsive, event-driven user interface To build a SeedSigner you will need the following components. – Raspberry Pi Zero version 1.3 (not “W”) – Waveshare 1.3 LCD Hat (240 x 240 pixels) – Aokin / AuviPal/ (other) RPI Camera – “Orange Pill” Enclosure Now that we have reminded ourselves what the project is and why its here we can continue. What I love about SS is anyone in the world can build one without anybody knowing they have it, this is especially useful in countries where freedom money is not welcome. I’ve been following this project for a few years now and continue to be impressed by the vision and team. Since I last spoke to SS they have built a new operating system helping with faster boot times as well as reducing the attack surface. As well as talking technical updates we also discus the pros and cons of working with a fully open source project and why the team are so passionate about what they do. It was really interesting to hear how the three team members met and how they have been working together to help refine and build this incredible project. It was a pleasure speaking to the SeedSigner team and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording this. The Power of Crypto sovereignty: A Conversation with Erik Cason.
FullEIn todays episode I spoke with Erik Cason about The Crypto Sovereignty Project. We also discussed why bitcoin is a vote against the fake democracy we live in today and how it can make war have a real cost to governments and potentially remove the incentive for them to kill innocent human beings. Cryptosovereignty is the personal power, economic liberty, and political praxis that exist in bitcoin directly, crypto assets generally, and the internet widely. It is the power of any single human — no matter their station of birth, class of wealth, or creed of faith — to choose to put their economic, social, and political rights into a new digital common-wealth that is inviolable and beyond the power of any and all governments to violate. "[We will not find a solution to political problems in cryptography] Yes, but we can win a major battle in the arms race and gain a new territory of freedom for several years. Governments are good at cutting off the heads of a centrally controlled networks like Napster, but pure P2P networks like Gnutella and Tor seem to be holding their own." –Satoshi Nakamoto It was a pleasure speaking to Erik and I urge anyone who has not yet read his work to check it out in the links bellow. Shitcoinery, China, bitcoin and freedom with @expatri0tic
FullEIn this episode I had a wide ranging conversation with Expatriotic who has been getting more involved In the bitcoin scene after a long period of shitcoinery and diving into the dirty world of defi. It was interesting to hear from his perspective why this was enticing as well as why he eventually decided bitcoin had to be the focus. We went on to discus living in Asia and an upcoming move to china for him and his family. Ex explained some of the cultural differences he experiences and how his move to china for work was agreed prior to getting deeper into the bitcoin rabbit hole and more specifically the privacy and security scene. The information Ex has learned about the surveillance state is obviously a concern and we discus different options to move freely through the borders with bitcoin as safely as possible. For this one suggestion was to use border wallets a fantastic free and open source option created by friends of the show @GhostofMTC and @superphatarrow here’s the website if this could be of interest to you. borderwallets.com The other option we discussed was to store a backup on an encrypted micro sd using a passport from foundation devices. This is a great option for someone who can store the password in a password manager or elsewhere separate to the SD card. Ex has been writing a blog and guides on his website for a few months now and I've really appreciated the simple layout and easily accessible information, he explained this started as a way for him to talk about bitcoin without driving himself and everyone else around him mad. This is a common theme with those of us new to bitcoin as we want to share this incredible technology with the world and also reveal some of the darker sides of the current financial system and world at large. Relaying this information to the majority of normal folks is incredibly frustrating and often goes nowhere so putting the information out in blog, video or podcast format can help satisfy the need to talk about it without the frustrating interactions. I really enjoyed this conversation and found Expatriotics honesty around previous thought patterns refreshing. Paynym for bitcoin users with iPhone, open source code and more with Stack Wallet.
FullEIn this episode I had the pleasure of speaking to Diego from Stack Wallet. Stack Wallet Duo is an open-source wallet supporting Bitcoin and Monero, the design and user flow is really simple and users reap the benefits of security, power, and stability that only a fully open-source codebase can offer. Stack is not partially open. Not mostly open. Completely open. I wanted to speak to Diego because SW are the first to implement Paynyms on IOS devices, this has meant half of users don’t have access to this incredible feature that other great projects like sparrow wallet and samourai wallet have been offering users for years. There is also talk of Stack allowing its users to use whirlpool soon, we touch on this during the episode and why Apple make this particularly difficult to do using Tor. Stack Wallet is non-custodial meaning they never touch your money and use great privacy defaults to keep users safe. After playing around with the wallet ive been very impressed. I set up a new wallet and paynym in a couple of minutes and the user experience was great. If you enjoyed the episode, please let us know by liking and/or subscribing to the podcast. Bitesize Bitcoin - Mining Transactions.
FullEBitesize Bitcoin Mining Transactions Early Bitcoin adopter Mike Hearn writes to Satoshi on April 12, 2009 “Hi Satoshi, I read your paper on Bitcoin with great interest. I found it a bit confusing though – I believe it may be easier to follow if you provide some examples. Specifically, it’s not quite clear to me what blocks contain” He then goes on to ask if only one chain is recording all of the transactions or “the story of the economy” as Mr. Hearn states. Satoshi responds 10 hours later “Hi Mike, I’m glad to answer any questions you have. If I get time, I ought to write a FAQ to supplement the paper” he follows with “There is only one global chain” The two continue their back and forth for 2 weeks, chatting about the protocol, even talking about sending transactions back and forth. Unfortunately for Mike Hearn, Satoshi doesn’t directly answer the initial question, “what do blocks contain” But fortunately for you, at Ungovernable Misfits we have the Bitesize Bitcoin series. In this episode of Bitesize Bitcoin, we will use our previous Bitesize’s hash to extend our chain of understanding of Bitcoin block creation and cover how transactions make their way into a block to be recorded on the one global chain, forever. https://ungovernablemisfits.com/

Bitesize Bitcoin - Block Creation
FullEBitesize Bitcoin Block Creation Mining is still in the infrastructure-building phase, that’s hard to believe 13 + years after the genesis block was created, but yes, we’re still building out the foundations of the Bitcoin network, at least as far as mining is concerned. We know this because the incentive to mine is clearly dominated by the coinbase reward. Driven by new coin generation, miners pay less attention to the fees generated by the transactions included within the block than they do the block subsidy. Comb through past blocks though and you’ll see some spikes in Tx Fees vs Block subsidy, sometimes quite impressive. For instance, on December 21, 2017 it was a banner day for transactions. In block 500,439, …13 or so Bitcoin were paid for the 2,335 transactions in that block, fees made up 51% of the total payout to miners. All in all, block subsidy is king, but fee are on the rise due to recent, uh, developments. Well this could be a fine time to brush up on the particulars of block creation and the handling of transactions. Now to the exiting stuff In this episode of Bitesize Bitcoin, we will cover the creation of a block template, a candidate block, and the components of a completed block Don’t forget, commit to memory: The candidate block header fields are version number, previous block hash, the merkle root of proposed transactions, timestamp, target for Proof of Work, and a nonce.

Own, control and understand bitcoin with sparrow wallet - Craig Raw
FullEOwn, control and understand bitcoin with sparrow wallet. In todays episode I spoke to Craig Raw the sole developer and maintainer of Sparrow wallet.Sparrow is a Bitcoin wallet for those who value financial self sovereignty. Sparrow’s emphasis is on security, privacy and usability. Sparrow does not hide information from you - on the contrary it attempts to provide as much detail as possible about your transactions and UTXOs, but in a way that is manageable and usable. Craigs hope is that sparrow is as much a tool for education as it is a tool for interacting with the bitcoin network. Ive found this wallet really usable while still having all of the features you would expect from a modern Bitcoin wallet. Full support for single sig and multisig wallets on common script types A range of connection options: Public servers, Bitcoin Core and private Electrum servers Standards based including full PSBT support Support for all common hardware wallets in USB and airgapped modes Full coin and fee control with comprehensive coin selection Labeling of all transactions, inputs and outputs Lightweight and multi platform Send and receive to PayNyms, both directly (BIP47) and collaboratively Built in Tor Testnet, regtest and signet support Sparrow is unique in that it contains a fully featured transaction editor that also functions as a blockchain explorer. This feature not only allows editing of all of a transaction’s fields, also easy inspection of the transaction bytes before broadcasting. I asked Craig about some of the features in the new release v1.7.2 and we went into detail on unique visual fingerprints for a wallets now being displayed in the Settings tab and passphrase entry dialog. This makes it easy for more visual people like myself to quickly recognise colours and shapes rather than a string of letters and numbers. We also discussed BIP329 which defines a standard for importing and exporting wallet labels. I was happy to see Craig pushing this forward as its an issue I'm currently experiencing myself and I don’t think I'm alone. As other wallets implement this standard, it will become easier to migrate between different wallet implementations using seeds, output descriptors and label exports. It was a pleasure speaking to Craig and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out and ask me. Privacy improvements for bitcoin with @Samouraiwallet
FullEI caught up with Samourai to discus some of the recent wallet updates. We spoke about stealth mode coming back, allowing users to hide the app within another non bitcoin related application like a calculator or VPN and how this can help protect users from potential theft. Samourai went into detail about plans to further decentralise whirlpool and how this will help protect the team as well as increasing the anonymity set of users. We touched on Lincoinpool adding paynym payouts for miners and why we should see more bip47 adoption in the mining scene. With all that has gone on with the recent arrest of the tornado cash developer I am very happy to see these moves being made. It seems we might soon have more clients coming online to join sparrow wallet and samourai wallet, with recent developments from the Straylight team announcing their new Whirlpool Client written in Rust and compatible with BDK based wallets. As always it was a pleasure speaking with Samourai and its great to have a project that refuses to comply and continues to make bitcoin privacy more accessible to users. twitter - @Samouraiwallet twitter - @MaxBitbuybit twitter - @bitbuybitpod Website - https://ungovernablemisfits.com As always please feel free to reach out and ask me any questions. Bitesize Bitcoin - Mining Server Components.
FullEBitesize Bitcoin Bitcoin Mining Server Components Emergentism, is the belief that complex systems can exhibit properties or behaviours that are not present in their individual components. Such is the case with a Bitcoin miner. In today’s Bitesize Bitcoin, we will review the components that comprise a common, air-cooled, single-phase powered, Bitcoin miner. A mining rig is in many ways less complex than other electronic devices we use every day as it is designed to perform only one function. It is comprised of a case, a control board, hashboards, ASIC chips, a power supply, fans, and wiring connecting them all together. Control Board: The control board is the central hub of the machine. It is responsible for controlling the other components of the rig and communicating with the greater Bitcoin network. It serves as the central hub for all the machine's hardware and software components. The control board contains a microcontroller, RAM, and other supporting chips and circuitry. It has connectors for various peripherals like temperature sensors, network connection, power supply, and fans and is responsible for controlling and monitoring the operation of the rig. The control board… Controls the power supply to the miner, including the power draw of the ASIC chips, fans, and other components. It also monitors the power consumption of the machine to ensure that it is operating efficiently. It monitors the temperature of the ASICs and other components, and it adjusts the power and cooling accordingly. The control board monitors the operation of the miner and detects any hardware or software failures. It can also protect the miner from overloading or other potential damage by shutting it down in case of a fault. With firmware like Braiins or Vnish these shutdown parameters can be set by the user. It tracks the performance of the miner and provides real-time updates on mining statistics, such as hash rate, pool stats like accepted and rejected shares, temperature, fan speed, and power consumption. It also provides error logs and other diagnostic information to help miners troubleshoot. The control board includes a processor, ARM, FPGA, or a combination of both, to handle the calculations and communicate those tasks to the hashboards. It includes a small amount of RAM and storage, such as an SD card, to store software and data. Contains a variety of ports, such as USB and Ethernet, to connect to other hardware components and the network. It is also equipped with an LED display to indicate network connection status And contains reset and ip report buttons. Fans: The fans blow air over the ASIC chips and other components to cool them down. Whatsminer and the Bitmain S9 use two 12V, 7-9amp fans. The S19’s use four smaller 2.7 amp 12V fans. Machines are designed to operate within a certain temperature range, the S9 and Whatsminer have an operating temperature range of 0-40°C, S19’s range is -5-45°C. Case: The case is the enclosure that holds all the components of the machine. The cases are aluminum, particularly stylish, and protect the internal components and provide a mounting point for various peripheries like fans and power supplies. Power Supply: The power supply does what it says it does, supplies power to the machines. It does this through a transformer and voltage regulator to convert AC to the DC power required by the machine. Common power supplies are the Bitmain APW12 and APW3+. As well as the Whatsminer PD21/22. Power supplies consist of several key components: Power conversion module, which converts AC to DC Power distribution board, which routes the DC power to the various components of the rig. Cooling system, yes power supplies have fans on them as well Connector pins: Single-phase power supplies have 3 pins, 2 hots and a ground, no neutral. Neutral is alternated between the two hots during their phases. Wall plugs and pdu’s need to be 3-prong outlets. The fact that there is not a dedicated neutral means proper grounding is of utmost importance. Bitmain has a c13 to c14 connector on the back of their power supplies. 1 on the s9 and two inputs for the S19. A C13 connector is a standard power connector that is commonly used on computers and other consumer electronics. Newer Whatsminers use a C19/C20 combination The C19/C20 connector is a heavy-duty power connector that is more commonly used in datacenters and other industrial settings. It is similar to a C13 connector, but it has a larger and more durable construction and is rated for higher levels of current and voltage. Bitmain continues to use the C13/C14 connector even though they are rated for less amperage. They achieve this by using two connectors on their power supply. Note: ASIC manufacturers are designing gear more and more to the specifications of larger mining operations. Both Bitmain and Whatsminer’s water cooled offerings, The Whatsminer M53 and the Antminer S19 XP hydro are 3-phase powered. Meaning smaller operations would have to either have
