The cost of existence and the God of love’ sets out how he believes Christians can still discern God’s purposes in evolutionary history.

Denis is joined in discussion by Perry Marshall, author of ‘Evolution 2.0’ which draws on his research into biology, intelligent design and evolution to show that neo-Darwinian evolutionary theory is no longer tenable.

Towards the end of the show Justin is joined by Dominic Done of Westside: A Jesus Church in Portland with a look ahead to Unbelievable? the Conference USA on Fri 31 Aug and Sat 1 Sep.

For Denis Alexander’s book Is There Purpose In Biology?: http://www.lionhudson.com/page/detail/?k=9780857217141

For Perry Marshall’s book Evolution 2.0: https://www.amazon.com/Evolution-2-0-Breaking-Deadlock-between/dp/1940363802/

For Big Conversation videos, updates and bonus content sign up: http://www.thebigconversation.show

Unbelievable? the Conference USA, Portland, 31 Aug & Sat 1 Sep https://westsideajc.org/unbelievable-conference

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 82Steven Pinker vs Nick Spencer: Have science, reason & humanism replaced faith?

In the second Big Conversation episode, Justin is joined by Harvard professor of psychology Steven Pinker and Nick Spencer of Christian think-tank Theos.

They debate the future of humanity in relation to Pinker’s recent book ‘Enlightenment Now’, addressing his claim that science, reason and humanism are the drivers of progress in the world, rather than religion. Ep 81Is there scientific evidence for Old Testament miracles? Colin Humphreys & Bob Price

Sir Colin Humphreys is a Cambridge scientist with an interest in Biblical studies. His book ‘The Miracles of Exodus: A Scientist's Discovery of the Extraordinary Natural Causes of the Biblical Stories’ makes the case that events like the parting of the Red Sea, the stopping of the Jordan river and the sun standing still in Joshua all have a basis in scientific facts and natural causes. The miracle is in the timing of the events by God.

Sceptical Bible scholar Bob Price debates Humphreys on these Old Testament events and whether his research proves the credible historicity of the Biblical accounts, and whether his approach runs the risk of eliminating the supernatural from the Bible.

For Colin Humphreys: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Miracles-Exodus-Scientists-Discovery-Extraordinary/dp/0060582731

For Bob Price: http://robertmprice.mindvendor.com/

For Big Conversation videos, updates and bonus content sign up: http://www.thebigconversation.show

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 79Where did the laws of nature come from? Hugh Ross vs Peter Atkins

Justin is joined by Christian astrophysicist Hugh Ross, founder of Reasons to Believe, and atheist scientist Peter Atkins of Oxford University, to debate whether the laws of nature came from ‘nothing’ or from God.

Peter Atkins’ new book ‘Conjuring The Universe: The Origins of the Laws of Nature’ claims that the Universe and it’s laws reflect the ‘nothing’ from whence they came. Hugh Ross has recently released a 4th edition of ‘The Cosmos and the Creator’ and explains why he believes the scientific evidence is continually growing for a creator of the universe and its life-permitting laws.

For ‘Conjuring The Universe’: https://global.oup.com/academic/product/conjuring-the-universe-9780198813378

For ‘The Creator and the Cosmos’: https://shop.reasons.org/product/599/creator-and-the-cosmos-fourth-edition

For The Big Conversation series https://www.thebigconversation.show

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: http://www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 76Is John’s Gospel historically accurate? Lydia McGrew & Craig Evans debate

Christian philosopher Lydia McGrew has recently accused evangelical scholars such as Mike Licona and Craig Evans, of undermining the historical reliability of John’s gospel. She cites Evans’ interactions with Bart Ehrman in debate as giving away too much ground to a sceptical view.

New Testament scholar Craig Evans defends his view that John’s gospel is historically reliable but also includes theological development by the Johannine community who knew Jesus’ teaching. Also, at the end of today’s show, Jonny Somerville, creator of the NUA film series talks about its impact on young people investigating Christianity.

For Lydia McGrew’s blog http://lydiaswebpage.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/jesus-never-said-i-am-statements.html

For Craig Evans https://www.craigaevans.com/

For the NUA film series: https://nuafilmseries.org/

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 75Is Christianity sexist? Paula Gooder & Francesca Stavrakopoulou

New Testament scholar Paula Gooder joins Justin to talk about her new book ‘Phoebe: A Story’ a fictional account of the life of the woman that St Paul entrusted with delivering his letter to the Romans. But have the ensuing centuries lost sight of the role of women such as Phoebe in the early church?

Sceptical Bible scholar Francesca Stavrakopoulou joins Paula to discuss whether Christianity is inherently patriarchal and sexist. They debate passages such as 1 Timothy 2: 11-12 and how much St Paul’s attitude toward women leaders in the early church contrasted with the prevailing culture.

For ‘Phoebe’ by Paula Gooder https://www.hodder.co.uk/books/detail.page?isbn=9781473669727

For Francesca Stavrakopoulou http://humanities.exeter.ac.uk/theology/staff/stavrakopoulou/

For Unbelievable? the Conference 2018: http://www.premier.org.uk/justask

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable?
In this Easter weekend edition of the show Justin hosts a dialogue between evangelist Glen Scrivener (who is speaking at Unbelievable? 2018) and atheist journalist Michael Collett. Glen’s recent book ‘Divine Comedy, Human Tragedy: What is life?’ is an evangelistic book on why Christianity makes sense of the tragedy of death.

Michael Collett, an ex-Christian and a fellow Aussie, discusses why as an atheist he believes life can have meaning even if death is the end, and why he can’t believe in the joy of heavenly resurrection if there is also a hell.

For Glen’s book https://www.10ofthose.com/products/23634/divine-comedy-human-tragedy

For Michael Collett: https://twitter.com/collettmp

For Unbelievable? the Conference 2018: http://www.premier.org.uk/justask

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 68Does Calvinism excuse sinners and make God guilty? Guillaume Bignon & Paul Franks

Calvinist theology holds that everything is pre-ordained by God. Critics say that such a deterministic view makes God morally responsible for evil and means that sinners can’t be blamed for their wrongdoing – after all they were predestined to do it. Guilluame Bignon, a French convert to Christianity who is now a Calvinist philosopher/theologian, seeks to answer these questions in his new book Excusing Sinners and Blaming God: A Calvinist Assessment of Determinism, Moral Responsibility, and Divine Involvement in Evil. He engages W Paul Franks of Tyndale University College, Toronto on the issues, who holds to a Wesleyan/ Arminian view of libertarian freedom.
Justin hosts a public dialogue between Christian Andy Bannister and atheist humanist Justin Trottier, live on stage at the Apologetics Canada conference in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

In front of an audience of 1,400 they debate whether Christianity or naturalism provides a better foundation for the concept of universal human rights, followed by questions from the floor.

For Apologetics Canada https://www.apologeticscanada.com/

For Andy Bannister: https://www.solas-cpc.org/what-are-human-rights-based-on-andy-bannister

For Justin Trottier: https://equalitycanada.com/

For Unbelievable? the Conference 2018: http://www.premier.org.uk/justask

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 66Do we need to rethink petitionary prayer? Mark Karris & Steve Jeffery

Mark Karris is author of 'Divine Echoes: Reconciling prayer with the uncontrolling love of God'. He believes Christians often have the wrong idea both about asking for things in prayer and the God they are asking.

Steve Jeffery is the pastor of Emmanuel Church, North London and co-author of 'Pierced for our Transgressions'. He takes a Calvinist perspective and critiques Mark's view of prayer, sovereignty and what it means for our understanding of scripture.

For 'Divine Echoes' by Mark Karris: http://conspiringprayer.com/

For Steve Jeffery: http://www.northlondonchurch.org/

For Unbelievable? the Conference 2018: http://www.premier.org.uk/justask

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 65Mythicism debate: Did St. Paul believe in a real or 'celestial' Jesus? Richard Carrier vs Jonathan McLatchie

One of the leading voices in 'Jesus mythicism', Richard Carrier, joins Justin on the show. He debates his theory that the apostle Paul only believed in a 'celestial' spiritual version of Jesus, not a flesh-and-blood man.

Christian apologist Jonathan McLatchie defends the mainstream view, arguing that Paul's references to Christ, as well as the book of Acts and the Gospels, all provide evidence for a real person.

For Richard Carrier: https://www.richardcarrier.info/

For Jonathan McLatchie: http://apologetics-academy.org/

For Unbelievable? the Conference 2018: http://www.premier.org.uk/justask

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 64Debating ID – Can evolution explain the bacterial flagellum? Jonathan McLatchie vs Keith Fox

A bacterial flagellum acts as the outboard motor on a bacteria. But is the complex arrangement of parts that enable it to do its job a result of design or evolution? Michael Behe first opened the debate on the ‘irreducible complexity’ of biochemical machines in his 1996 book Darwin’s Black Box.

Intelligent Design proponent Jonathan McLatchie and theistic evolutionist Keith Fox debate whether Behe’s theory has stood the test of time, the bacterial flagellum and whether ID is a science stopper or theologically helpful.

For Jonathan McLatchie: http://apologetics-academy.org/

For Keith Fox: https://www.faraday.st-edmunds.cam.ac.uk/Biography.php?ID=174

For Unbelievable? the Conference 2018: http://www.premier.org.uk/justask

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 63Debating embryonic stem cells & biotechnology - Fuz Rana & Robert Stovold

Stem cells are an early development form of cells with the potential to turn into any part of the human system. They are used medically for regenerative therapy to treat many conditions. However stem cells have traditionally been harvested from early-stage embryos causing concerns for those who believe life begins at conception.

Fuz Rana a scientist with Reasons To Believe joins Justin to discuss a new technology that allows stem cells to be produced without the need for the destruction of embryos. He debates atheist biologist Robert Stovold who believes that Judaeo-Christian concerns about life should not inhibit research in biotechnology.

For Fuz at Unbelievable? 2018: http://www.premier.org.uk/justask

For Reasons To Believe: http://www.reasons.org

For Unbelievable? the Conference 2018: http://www.premier.org.uk/justask

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 58The Tim Farron affair: Are evangelicals no longer welcome in politics? David Robertson & Jonathan Bartley

During his time as leader of the Liberal Democrat party, Tim Farron was repeatedly questioned about his views on homosexuality and gay sex. When he resigned he said “To be a political leader and to live as a committed Christian, has felt impossible for me”. On a recent Premier Christian Radio interview he reignited the controversy by stating that he regrets saying that gay sex was not a sin.

Revd David Robertson of Solas Centre for Public Christianity and Jonathan Bartley of the Green Party react to the interview. David believes that Christians are being discriminated against if they diverge from society’s current views on sexuality. Jonathan, who is also a Christian, doesn’t believe that discrimination is happening and conservative Christians need to get used to new realities.

For the Tim Farron Interview: https://www.premierchristianity.com/Blog/Tim-Farron-Q-A-Why-I-resigned-why-it-matters-and-what-I-should-have-said-about-gay-sex

For David Robertson: https://theweeflea.com/ For Jonathan Bartley: https://www.greenparty.org.uk/people/leaders-of-green-party.html Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable? Ep 57Meet a Street Epistemologist: Pascoe Rapacci vs Cameron Bertuzzi

Street Epistemology has become popular among many atheists as a conversational way to interrogate people's spiritual beliefs. Popularised by atheist philosopher Peter Boghossian in his book "A Manual For Creating Atheists" the movement is now seeking to create 10,000 street evangelists for atheism.

Pascoe Rapacci engages regularly in Street Epistemology (though doesn't claim to speak for the movement as a whole). He engages with Christian apologist Cameron Bertuzzi of Capturing Christianity on whether Street Epistemology is a valid way of investigating the truth of people's beliefs.

For Street Epistemology: https://streetepistemology.com/

For Pascoe Rapacci: https://www.twitter.com/pocketpasc

For Cameron Bertuzzi's written dialogue with a Street Epistemologist: http://capturingchristianity.com/conversation-street-epistemologist/

Get signed copies of Unbelievable? the book and audiobook: www.unbelievablebook.co.uk

Get Unbelievable? the Conference 2017 DVD/CD & Digital Download: http://www.premier.org.uk/shop

For more faith debates visit http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable

Join the conversation: Facebook and Twitter

Get the MP3 Podcast of Unbelievable?
