This interview was originally broadcast September 15, 2017Why does the Western mainstream incessantly demonize Putin and Russia? Guy Mettan’s Creating Russophobia offers a detailed and convincing answer. Mettan begins by listing the many incidents and issues that have been wildly misreported (with massive anti-Russia spin at best, outright lies at worst) in the West. Having established the existence of such strong prejudice against Russia, he argues that the roots of this unfortunate attitude go back roughly 1,000 years. Like Islamophobia, Russophobia is an age-old Western prejudice with a religious basis: It goes all the way back to the Great Schism between the Eastern and Western Christianity. And like Islamophobia, Russophobia seems to stem from a certain narrow-mindedness, fanaticism, refusal to see the Other’s point of view, and desire for absolute domination that lurks in the dark heart of that imaginary construct we call “the West.”Today, Mettan argues, the modern histories of French, German, and British Russophobias have converged in, and been subsumed by, an American-dominated Russophobia whose hallmark is a kind of Orwellian “cognitive manipulation” based on linguistic subterfuge. It's a little bit mind boggling that somebody who comes out of the center of mainstream Swiss journalism and institutions has managed to tell this much truth about a topic that is so taboo. What got you started on this?Guy Mettan: I have followed Russian affairs and the gap between Eastern Europe, Russia and the European Union for a long time, about 20 years, as a journalist. And for 25 years I have had special ties with Russia because I received the Russian nationality from President Yeltsin. My wife and I adopted a young girl, our daughter Oksana. Since she became our daughter we could get the Russian passport. And since then I have had a special focus on Russia. I visit the country, I have many friends, and so on. And I am always surprised by the huge gap between the Russian reality, how Russians live, and what is shown by the Western media, the way the Western media speak about Russia. Because it is very negative...When the second revolution took place in Maidan in Kiev in 2014, I thought "these prejudices are so great, so deep, so important, I have to do something." I can relate to your situation because I was probably made more sensitive to Islamophobia due to having married my wife, who is Moroccan and Muslim. And so in a sense, I sort of have a dual nationality with the Muslim Ummah. And so since 9/11, with this pervasive Islamophobia, I think I've noticed it more than other people might have, and I can understand how your connection with Russia would also help you see things from this other perspective that's being systematically neglected. So the Western media are obviously not very enthusiastic about publishing information of the kind that you're offering in this book. And I know your book came out in French originally, and it took a while to come out in English. Did you have a hard time finding a publisher?Guy Mettan: Oh, yes. We tried many times. We took the first edition in France and tried to to get an English publisher or an American publisher as soon as possible. For six months it was quite difficult. You try to check into the motel and you find out that you said something political that somebody didn't like and you can't stay there anymore? Are we all going to be homeless? Are they going to ban us from eating? Things are really getting strange in America today. Let's try and make some sense of it. Hey, welcome Michelle Malkin, how are you?Michelle Malkin: Good. Thanks for having me.Kevin Barrett: So what's with Airbnb? I can't believe it. Since when did people start getting banned from accessing these kinds of basic services in America due to their political stances?Michelle Malkin: Well, it's been happening for a while, but with particular regard to the dissident right. A lot of young activists and journalists and independent citizens, researchers that identify themselves as truly America First, as opposed to the appropriated generic brand that we're now seeing from the Republican Party. It's been happening for quite a while, and I'm certainly not the first canary in the cancel culture coal mine on this. In fact, in 2019, when I came out with my latest book called Open Borders Inc., I dedicated it to many of the patriots who have already been suffering de-housing, de-platforming, de-banking and now, most recently, a twist of de-planing. There are a number of individuals, and I'm trying to get a complete list of them through a Freedom of Information Act request, who've been either put on the no fly list or designated by the TSA as heightened security risks, and either stopped and swabbed for bomb-making materials, prevented from booking tickets online, this type of thing. The designation is SSSS. And I identified at least two individuals who had been classified as such. So the idea that I could be retaliated against by a service provider of public accommodations like Airbnb is certainly in keeping with that trend. The new twist or new wrinkle, at least to my mind, is the fact that not only was I punished specifically for speaking at the annual American Renaissance conference last November, but my husband's account was also deleted. And he is not a public figure. He's not a journalist. He wasn't at the conference. But it doesn't matter. And the idea that it was my speech was also pretextual, because Airbnb didn't bother to obtain a transcript or a video of the speech before they made this decision.Kevin Barrett: So this wasn't really about anything you said. Ron Unz responded to the AP’s 4,000-word hit piece against RFK Jr. just hours after its publication. He noticed a very strange omission: “Almost half of the entire book under attack—around 200 pages—is devoted to the presenting and promoting the astonishing claim that everything we have been told about HIV/AIDS for more than 35 years probably amounts to a hoax…Yet not a single word of this astonishing situation appears in the long AP article, that attacks Kennedy on almost all other possible grounds, fair or unfair. Did all six of the AP writers and researchers somehow skip over those 200 pages in Kennedy’s bestseller?”Probably not. More likely, they were told “don’t go there.”But why not? So I noticed that in a way this is sort of like an update of the kind of information that David Ray Griffin has been working on for so many years. But instead of 14 volumes or whatever he's published, you've packed it all into one volume.Jamie MacPhail: Yeah. David Ray Griffin has been a great source of information on 911, along with a few others, such as David Chandler, of course, Kevin Ryan, Kevin Fenton, of course, writing on the issues around the intelligence agencies. There are so many people. Graham McQueen, of course,has been a great contributor to the to the cause well. And Mark Gaffney, just to name a few.I've kind of read all their stuff and sought to put it all together into one coherent narrative, but trying desperately to avoid getting caught up in rabbit holes, which 9/11 is absolutely replete with. You know, there's so many areas of 9/11 that if you're not really careful, you can just get caught into a particular perspective that can be then knocked down and destroyed as an argument. So I've tried to keep clear of the pitfalls. For example, the Pentagon is a classic one where most people who have written about 9/11 have always followed the line that it's a cruise missile and there's no evidence of the 757. And I had that view myself as well, actually for many years, until I came across the research of David Chandler, Wayne Coste and their colleagues on the on the website 911SpeakOut.org, which is very, very good and very useful to to investigate for those who are interested in the Pentagon. So that's one of the rabbit holes of 9/11n. We can very easily get caught up in the idea that there was no plane that went into the Pentagon.Kevin Barrett: And the rabbit hole is a good metaphor for that. Since there are those two holes: There's the the hole on the outside, and then there's the interior hole in the E ring, the central one of the five rings in the Pentagon. And just a cursory examination, especially of the exterior hole, without knowing the larger context, can easily make it seem very obvious that there was no big plane. Jamie MacPhail: Yeah, absolutely. And (Gen. Albert) Stubblebine was a great advocate of that. And he, of course, was a major figure within the American Army, and he came out and said, in about 2005, that the plane does not fit the hole. I don't know if you remember that one.Kevin Barrett: Yeah, it was like if the plane does not fit, you must acquit.Jamie MacPhail: "So there's no there's no plane, it must have been a cruise missile." But there is very clear evidence (of a big plane impact). I've borrowed some pictures from 911SpeakOut.org to put in the book. It's very clear that there was structural damage along about a 90 foot area of the front of the Pentagon there, indicating that yes, actually it wasn't a cruise missile, it was something much larger that caused that amount of damage. I know this is a contentious view. There are many people in the 9/11 truth movement who still maintain that it was a missile or bombs and had nothing to do with the 757. But I would challenge that view myself. And the evidence relating to the shenanigans of Dick Cheney in the Presidential Emergency Operations

It's a good method for trying to figure out certain kinds of empirical things. But there are a lot of problems in the scientific community, and one of them is the reluctance to acknowledge the results of a very rich history of psi experimentation. I discovered this in high school by reading the Encyclopedia of Philosophy entry on ESP. I did some research and I was shocked that so many people know that things like telepathy and precognition exist, and yet the larger scientific community tends to deny it to a certain extent—even though science itself has proven it seven ways from Sunday.And one of the world's leading experts on all of this is Dean Radin. He's the author of a long list of great books, including Super Nature and The Conscious Universe, which is a really good primer on these topics. He has a new book out called Real Magic, which I haven't read yet, but I'm intending to. So Dean Radin...Here we are in a very strange cultural moment with a pandemic raging around us or maybe raging a little less than some pandemics in history have. The cultural issues around it are certainly raging. And the leitmotif "trust the science" is everywhere. Well, Dean, you do science, you're a scientist. And yet you've noticed that the scientific community, when it gets into sort of a groupthink bubble, is often wrong. So we could start by hearing your thoughts about that.Dean Radin: Well, science has an aspiration for the same as we see in the academic world for academic freedom. That means that you can apply the the tools and methods of science and scholarship to study anything that you want. But as we all know, the aspirations sometimes are not actually realized. And it's just as true in science as it is in any other enterprise that involves more than two people, which is basically everything. So science has its own sets of taboos about what you're allowed to talk about. It is definitely influenced by politics, and strongly influenced as well by business interests. And so I think one of the reasons why a lot of people today, in considering the pandemic, they're suspicious about science because there's also an assumption that not only are there external influences which determine what the mainstream believes—and by the way, there is no one mainstream, there are dozens of them—but also there's an assumption that when the scientists, especially within medical science, make a pronouncement, then that's the way it is. But that's never the way it is. Experimental science is always provisional and theories are always provisional. The reason why I think it's useful to pay attention to what science actually says is because it means, that phrase means: "Is there evidence to support the conclusion?" Well, evidence, too is uncertain. It's only at the stage when something turns into technology that we have extremely high confidence that our theories are correct. Meow! Surely you’re joking, Mona! I invited Mona Shaykh, a leading “woke” comedian and self-professed “naughty Muslim,” for what I thought would be a friendly conversation. After all, we’re both American Muslims, we both have an offbeat sense of humor (check out my satire), we both sympathize with underdogs and oppressed folks, and we’re both committed to telling in-your-face truth exactly the way we see it, social niceties be *#@*ed.My wife warned me: “What kind of Muslim is this? She’s flashing her body around, spewing her potty mouth, exploiting her background for cheap laughs, selling tasteless woke NWO crap. Don’t dignify her with an interview.”“Well,” I said, “I’m sure Mona and I have different takes on a long list of issues. But I love interviewing people who see things differently from me. We can discuss our areas of disagreement reasonably, so the listeners can gain a better idea of what’s at stake and make up their own minds.”I should have listened to my wife.Six minutes in, the interview started going off the rails. Shaikh told me two of her brothers had contracted polio from expired vaccinations, and the trauma destroyed her family. I asked whether that bad vaccine experience made her wary of COVID vaccines, mentioning the previous guest, Tom Breidenbach’s, long, well-documented list of reasons not to trust the “vax everybody” party line. Her response: “I’m sorry, are you an anti-vaxer?” From what happened after that, it might as well have been Julius Streicher asking “I’m sorry, are you a Jew?” (Except that Streicher probably couldn’t keep up with Mona’s profanity.)Unfortunately, Mona’s wish that COVID provide a final solution to the anti-vaxxer problem (starting around the 23 minute mark) might not be as far-fetched as it sounds. Nobel Laureate virologist Luc Montagnier agrees with vaccine expert Geert Vanden Bossche (among many others) that mass “leaky” vaccinations in the midst of a viral pandemic are sheer madness, just as mass “leaky” antibiotics would be during a bacterial pandemic, for roughly the same reasons: they put selective pressure on the pathogen to breed more virulent variants. Though it is unclear whether the vaccinated or unvaccinated would suffer the most under a worst case scenario, the closest real-world precedent is the case of Marek’s disease in chickens. What happened, briefly, was that mass leaky vaccinations of chickens bred ever-more-virulent variants that ever-more-disproportionately targeted the unvaccinated chickens. Eventually, the selective pressure produced a virus that was mostly non-lethal in vaccinated chickens, but killed all unvaccinated chickens.Personally, I wouldn’t wish a Marek’s disease scenario on a chicken, much less a human being, much less hundreds of millions of human beings. Today we're going to the rather complex subject of international economics, but by way of an analysis of empire. John Perkins and Confessions of an Economic Hit Man showed us the debt dimension of empire. Our US empire is the first empire ever that runs on debt more than anything else. And if you want to learn how that works, the place to go is Super Imperialism by Michael Hudson. It's been recently reissued with a new concluding chapter, and it pretty much breaks it down: It's a fantastic book, and kind of disturbing, too, that makes you realize how shaky the foundations of our whole world right now are. So let's talk about it. Hey, welcome Michael Hudson, how are you?Michael Hudson: Well, I'm pretty good, and it's good to be here.Kevin Barrett: Good to finally have you. I've been reading your stuff for years, and I just read Super Imperialism actually for the first time, I hate to admit, and it's quite a masterpiece. I would think anyone teaching a university course on these matters would have to assign it. But I'm not sure that it's mainstream acceptable enough to get that assignment. What's been the response?Michael Hudson: To this book? The problem is not acceptability. The problem is getting it into the curriculum. I was a professor of economics since the 1960s, and there's no way to fit either international finance or even money and credit, or the balance of payments, into the curriculum. I don't think the balance of payments, which is the key to the world's debt problem today, is taught anywhere. I was told that in 1969 and 70, my course was the only course in balance of payments accounting in the United States. Most economists actually look at economies as if they're done on barter. And money doesn't really appear because economists say, "Well, we owe the debt to ourselves, so it doesn't really matter." But the "we" who owe the debt or the 99 percent, and the "ourselves" or the one percent that things are owed to in America and internationally (are not the same). Right now, you're seeing crises erupt throughout the world. Argentina, again, is about to default or repudiate the debt that it owes to the International Monetary Fund that essentially serves as an arm of American foreign policy. And that's what I discuss in Super Imperialism: how the International Monetary Fund lends money to support governments that are friendly to the United States.Michael Hudson: And when the U.S. policy, neoliberalism usually, gets these economies in trouble, the IMF will lend money to a country like Argentina to support flight capital. It will enable all of the U.S. corporations in Argentina, and the rich families, to move their their domestic money in pesos or escudo, or whatever they're dealing with, out of the country into dollars. And then the IMF lets the currency collapse—and in fact, insists that the currency collapses. Because it says when if you can't pay your debt, the way to repay it is to impose austerity and lower your wages and stop investing in public infrastructure, stop government spending. And so the result of this policy of the IMF with the World Bank right behind it, is to make countries less and less able to pay their debts. And so they fall deeper and deeper into debt and more and more dependent on U.S. official credit. Imf credit and essentially debt is used internationally to impoverish other countries, just as it's now impoverishing the U.S. economy.Kevin Barrett: And this all raises the question of why you were the only one teaching this in the universities, given its central importance for history, geopolitics, and the way things really work in the world. And that's where I wonder whether there must not be some kind of political resistance in the form of a kind of a propagandistic way of pushing particular views of politics and economics coming down from the top.
