SHIFT: Faithful Living in a Changing Culture - a Study of DanielWhen you follow God in a shifting culture, you're bound to make enemies. Some people will love to see you fail. The enemy of your soul would love to see you falter! If you're following Jesus, expect to face spiritual attack in various forms. This Sunday at Troy UMC, we will identify several forms of spiritual attack and be inspired by the way Daniel put his trust in God even in the midst of circumstances that could lead us down paths of worry.Daniel 5

SHIFT: Faithful Living in a Changing Culture - a Study of DanielLast week we saw how God blessed Daniel and his friends when they refused to SHIFT and continued to follow God's ways even when doing so meant they could die. Although in our culture, we may not risk our lives following God's ways, following Jesus is still radical. It stands out as very different from those around us. This week, as we study the 2nd chapter of Daniel, we'll discover one particular way that following Jesus goes against the world's current. The world teaches us to depend on ourselves - our gifts, our resources, our talents. Following Jesus means learning to depend on God and others. When push comes to shove, are you depending on yourself or on God? Invite a friend to join us as we take steps toward living in dependence on God!Daniel 2

As a congregation we’ll be studying the book of Daniel. Why should you care about a guy who lived over 2500 years ago? Great question! Just like Daniel, we live in a culture whose values entice us to SHIFT our focus from following God wholeheartedly. Together we’ll learn from Daniel who time and time again, resisted the temptation to SHIFT his values to save his own skin or make his life easier. This week's sermon will specialize on how to deal with compromises when it comes to faith.

The central theme of the Christian faith is that Jesus did for us what we could not do for ourselves. As a result of our faith and trust in Christ, our sins are forgiven and we are made new. Jesus’ followers are commissioned to be his ambassadors, carrying his message of forgiveness and grace to one another and to the world. This week at Troy UMC we will wrestle with the multiple layers of what it means to carry the message of grace and forgive one another in the Christian community.
