Love is one of the most powerful words, but it’s also one of the most misunderstood words. Especially when we are talking about our love towards one another. In week nine of This Is Us, we’ll discover a powerful change Jesus makes the night before he went to the cross regarding how we are supposed to love others.

What does growing spiritually look like and what does riding a bike have to do with spiritual growth? In week eight of This Is Us, we’ll look at the six stages of growth that help us identify where we are in our journey with God. We will also learn three practical tools that can take us to the next level in our relationship with God.

Have you ever noticed how we have a tendency to cover the areas in our life that we don’t like? We hid our sin. We hide our struggles. We hide our insecurities. But, did you know that covering up our shortcomings keeps us disconnected from God’s purpose for our life? In week seven of This Is Us, we’ll take a look at why transparency is so important in our lives.

Is God more concerned with my heart or how I live my life? We all fight the gravitational pull to mediocrity, but is that God’s will for our life? In week six of This Is Us, Pastor Ryan will talk about the importance of how we live our lives and the impact it makes in our lives and in the lives of others.

What am I supposed to do with my life? Can God use me in light of my past mistakes and shortcomings? In week five of This Is Us, we’ll take a look at the one thing God has called everyone to do.

Why am I here? Does God have a plan for my life? Can God still use me? In week four of This Is Us, we'll discover that God has a purpose for our lives no matter what we've been through or experienced.

(Stop here and expound) 13 “A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. 14 About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. 15 He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. 16 The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything. 17 “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! 18 I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, 19 and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”’ 20 “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. 21 His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. 22 “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. 23 And kill the calf we have been fattening. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.” Luke 22:31-34 NLT 54 So they arrested him and led him to the high priest’s home. And Peter followed at a distance. 55 The guards lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat around it, and Peter joined them there. 56 A servant girl noticed him in the firelight and began staring at him. Finally she said, “This man was one of Jesus’ followers!” 57 But Peter denied it. “Woman,” he said, “I don’t even know him!” 58 After a while someone else looked at him and said, “You must be one of them!” “No, man, I’m not!” Peter retorted. 59 About an hour later someone else insisted, “This must be one of them, because he is a Galilean, too.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Suddenly, the Lord’s words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.” 62 And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly. Luke 22:54-62 NLT Four Things about the Holy Spirit: #1. As a Believer in Christ, The Holy Spirit Lives Inside You. 1 John 4:4; 1 Corinthians 6 #2. The Holy Spirit Empowers Us. 29 And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. 30 Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:29-31 NLT #3. The Holy Spirit Assures Us That We Belong To God’s family. Romans 8:16 #4. The Holy Spirit Comforts and Encourages Us. 26 “And I will send you the Divine Encourager from the very presence of my Father. John 15:26 TPT

…so that God may be all in all. 1 Corinthians 15:28 NIV 24 Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all his enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For He “has put everything under His feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under Him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28 When He has done this, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who put everything under Him, so that God may be all in all. 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 NIV Life Purpose Statement: “I (Teryl) am a big bald guy who wants to help as many people as possible make heaven their home. To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV 1. America Is A Resilient People When We Turn To God For Help. 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles. 7:14. 2. God Honors Prayer and Fasting. 21 There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions. 22 I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.”23 So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer. Ezra 8:21-23 NLT 3. Forgiveness Is Much More Than Just Saying The Words: “I forgive so and so.” 4. God Is Looking For People He Can Trust.

And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, Acts 6:5 NKJV 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people. Acts 6:8 NKJV 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke. Acts 6:10 NKJV 55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Acts 6:55 NKJV 59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep. Acts 7:59-60 NKJV 15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. 18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church.
