Ep 460Tranquility du Jour #460: Equine Coaching

I have always been on a search to know myself and the world around me more deeply and profoundly. I have always longed to live a life of adventure and magic and sweet connection with people and animals. I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was a kid, and an actress. Later, I wanted to be an animal keeper at the Los Angeles Zoo and I took all kinds of courses towards that including an internship at the zoo. Eventually, my interests changed to wanting to help people. I wanted to help others, as well as myself, understand and embrace their innate beauty and essential mystery. I became a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncturist, a massage therapist and a yoga instructor and meditation teacher as ways to share my desire to guide people back to their own inner Divine nature and back to their connection with nature and the world around them. I became a certified Co-Active Coach as a way to support and guide people back to their own inner knowing and self trust. I am becoming an Equine Guided Coach as a way to learn from the magical and highly sensitive horse in order to live my life in a daily prayer of presence and truth and to, yet again, share this path with those that resonate with it. More than ever, at this time of my life, I feel called to share all that I have learned with others regarding self compassion and self love. I have learned from my own path of self discovery that the more that I stay connected to my own self truth and inner guidance, the greater is my connection with other people and the animal and plant world. I believe with all of my heart that each one of us deserves to experience life in it's full magnificence while also allowing ourselves to experience hardships and difficulties and pains just as fully. This is a life fully lived. I translate the wild feminine into writing, multimedia art, teaching, motherhood, and witchcraft, but I aim to have my core message constant: It is our birthright to resurrect embodied spirituality, a unique holiness that is lived out and experienced in the body, through the senses, and made manifest in ritual, story, and magick-making. I am the author of Woman Most Wild: Three Keys to Liberating the Witch Withinand The Holy Wild: A Heathen Bible for the Untamed Woman(New World Library 2017 and 2018), a pagan poet and heathen storyteller, a Celtic free-style Witch, and I long for the mists. May we all find what we seek, hag spirits that we are. She developed Calligraphy in the 21st Century, a popular San Francisco workshop booked months in advance, as a way to share her passion with the creative community. This year, Maybelle offers the course in some of her favorite cities: New York City, Los Angeles, Portland, Santa Barbara, and Sydney, Australia. Ep 434Tranquility du Jour #434: My Trip to Paris
In this week's edition of Tranquility du Jour, I discuss my solo trip to Paris—takeaways, delights, and challenges. Takeaways: 1. Add beauty. The other night I stopped by a flower shop to pick up a pink hyacinth for 3 euros. The shopkeeper wrapped it in Kraft paper for my walk home. This little gem is deliciously fragrant and sitting next to me as I type. 2. Saunter. Each day I've explored various parts of the city for at least 15,000 steps (about six miles). The lack of rushing and the chance to take in Paris by foot with stops at sidewalk cafes to warm up or rest has been a treat. 3. Greet. It's customary to say "bonjour" upon entering shops or even purchasing a train ticket from an agent. There's a formality that feels quaint and civilized. 4. Sip. When I first arrived, I went straight to a cafe and sat for nearly an hour sipping two pots of thé vert à la menthe (green mint tea). There's no rush to turn over a table for another client, you can linger and sip as long as you'd like. 5. Read. I love seeing people with books in hand on the metro, at cafes, and, of course, in the many book shops. It's a great reminder to put the phone down and sink into a good read. 6. Express. Men in red pants, women in leopard-print, kids on scooters. There's a sense of style that's wrapped in self-expression. 7. Savor. A baguette here is a heavenly experience. Pizza sans cheese doused in a spicy oil is divine. The dark chocolates melt in your mouth. And there's an abundant amount of green juice. 8. Appreciate. Finding gifts to bring home is a treasure hunt. Today I picked up olive oil in a square bottle modeled after Chanel No. 5, a pink rose candle, gold (yes, gold!) peppercorns, and chocolates wrapped in pastel paper. Ep 433Tranquility du Jour #433: Positive Psychology
In this week's edition of Tranquility du Jour, I discuss the getting a certificate in applied positive psychology with three classmates: Alisha, Alexis, and Carol. Learn our takeaways from the program and how we're incorporating them into our daily lives. According to Psychology Today, positive psychology is the scientific study of what makes life most worth living. It is a call for psychological science and practice to be as concerned with strength as with weakness; as interested in building the best things in life as in repairing the worst; and as concerned with making the lives of people fulfilling as with healing pathology. I'm Bronwyn. I'm a visual artist and consulting astrologer living on beautiful Vancouver Island. I love living intimately with nature; I am nurtured daily by the living ocean, the ancient giant cedars, the salmon-bearing streams and the dark night skies of my beautiful home. At the center of my creative life are circles of women. My soul's work happens here. I've been facilitating women's circles for thirty years, and leading women's retreats for nearly twenty. Over and over again, I have witnessed the life-changing power of groups of women coming together with purpose. Leading and mentoring women on-on-one and in circle is my honor and one of my greatest joys. In my astrological practice, I lead workshops, min-retreats, and Moon Circles around the US and Canada, and am currently Resident Astrologer for Jane Reeve's beautiful semi-annual Italy retreats. As a consulting astrologer I work with the cycles of the Sun, Moon and planets to help my clients gain deeper understanding of their own life cycles. I see each life story as life is a thing of beauty, of richness, and profound depth. You can think of me as a guide to those depths, an interpreter of the deep and sometimes strange symbolic language of the soul. With gentle loving-kindness, I help my clients to see beneath the surface of life, and to better understand the great currents of energy that are moving us forward. As a visual artist, I have explored many media, and my main work now is with ceramics, painting, and illustration. I have exhibited widely, and my work can be found in collections in North America, the UK and the Middle East. I am currently obsessed with food illustration! I'm also a mom to a wonderful grown daughter, and I've been happily partnered to my best friend for twenty-five years. I'm a practicing Tibetan Buddhist, a dancer, a yogini, and a rescuer of pugs in my spare time. Ep 420Tranquility du Jour #420: Ayurveda
Ayurveda with Susan Weis-Bohlen. In this week's edition of Tranquility du Jour, we discuss Ayurveda in everyday life including the Dinacharya—the daily routine and her new book, Ayurveda Beginner's Guide: Essential Principles and Practices to Balance and Heal Naturally. Direct download: Tranquility du Jour #420: Ayurveda Upcoming Events Year of Tranquility: Join anytime Yoga + the Animals: June 9 at Burleigh Manor Animal Sanctuary Penning in Paris: July 23-27 in Paris {1 spot left} Writing in the Woods: October 26-28 in West Virginia Tranquility in the Topics: February 16-23, 2019 in Costa Rica Tranquility in Tuscany: July 13-20, 2019 Featured Guest: SUSAN WEIS-BOHLEN is a full-time Ayurvedic consultant, cooking teacher, meditation teacher, and leader of sacred site tours. Susan's personal journey into the Ayurvedic lifestyle began when she came across the Ayurvedic cleansing technique of panchakarma. What began as the release of damaging toxins and personal difficulties eventually grew into an impassioned vocation. She has since studied with the best teachers of Ayurveda, both in the US and in India. Susan knows exactly how challenging it can be to come to Ayurveda as a beginner and has dedicated her life to sharing the fruits of her studies with students all over the world. Susan grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. After attending the University of Missouri and the University of Maryland (1985) she moved to Israel where she lived in Tel Aviv and worked as a journalist for the Jerusalem Post and as a unit publicist on TV shows and films made in Israel. Susan also worked for Israel Cable TV during its infancy and helped to establish the film channel. In 1992 Susan moved to Washington DC to work at the Israeli Embassy in the media and press office. For the next three years she worked with the government promoting the Oslo Peace Accords, witnessing the signing of peace treaties with Palestine and Jordon, with both the Bush and Clinton administrations. After moving back to the US for good in 1997 Susan found real joy in working at two bookstores, Bibelot and Barnes & Noble, organizing events, community groups, book clubs and workshops. After that wonderful experience, Susan worked in PR and marketing while planning to open her own bookstore. After a visit to The Bodhi Tree in West Hollywood (Los Angeles) she decided to open a new age bookstore based on their model. Susan opened Breathe Books in Baltimore in 2004. Since she became a vegetarian at 16 and had been practicing yoga and meditation in her late 20s Susan wanted to promote this lifestyle to others. She ran her bookstore for 10 years, eventually adding a vegetarian cafe, teaching and consulting on Ayurveda, hosting authors from around the globe, and leading weekly meditation classes. In 2014 Susan decided to close Breathe Books and concertante fully on her Ayurvedic practice. Continuing her love for world-travel, Susan leads meditation, yoga and Ayurveda tours to sacred sites around the world. Susan lives with her husband Larry (who she met in her bookstore in 2008) and their three dogs, Ella, Shadow and Joonie, in the woods in Reisterstown, Maryland just outside of Baltimore City. That was also the year she learned that she loved endives with beets, was allergic to ouzo and how to scale the wall of her apartment building in high heels. Over the years, she has taught French to high schoolers, Creative Writing to college students and how to live a mythic life to people from around the world. Admittedly, the strongest call in her life has been to help others reconnect with their creativity but after building and running Squam Art Workshops for ten years, she is now keen to spend sacred time writing and messing about with mixed-media. Her stated intention is to achieve this with a complete absence of an agenda, itinerary, playbook, libretto or anything that might resemble a plan. She finds nothing incongruous about her love for the writing of Mary Oliver and Tom Robbins; Eknath Easwaren and Asterix comics; Edith Wharton and Scarlett Thomas; John O'Donohue and anyone who can make her laugh. And, she is confident that it is only a matter of time before Durga returns to set the world to right. Does not that alone say something and promise something? Does it not thus expand the range of what can be done, and of how far one may go? Every work of the spirit is a small reenactment of the miracle of Being, a small recreation of the world—and is not this essential and unique transcendence of its material existence enough to guarantee it a lasting place in the history of spirit and lasting participation in the "spirit" of the order of the spirit— that special attempt on the part of Being at its own great re-creation? To sum up: I'm convinced that each spiritual act is an integral part of the order of the spirit, that the order of the spirit is present in each act just as the entire river is present in an eddy, and that every such act irrevocably alters the order of the spirit, just as every eddy, though it may last no more than a minute, has irrevocably changed the river.
