Toy Power Podcast

This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have Special Guest: Craig Goldberg just us! Well known on the Toy Anxiety Podcast as well as the greater "YHS" Community! We run Craig through the standard initiation questions, with his answers heading towards his passion towards Sports Stars and defending Movie Sequels... Then we get into a bit of a round trouble discussion about our own 'State Of The Nation.' Where are we at with our Toy Collecting habits & what might be on the horizon? Plus some fun reflection stories from the past too; (or two?). A little bit of Hot Toys banter; with a name drop of a potential on-par competitor company by the name of Jazzinc Dioramas - their Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman is outstanding! We question- who and what is a Matt Bush?! Then we get the low down on just how YHS began, but also their impressive involvement in all things Ghostbusters related; - including some involvement with the new films!! Then we do another round table segment of Latest Scores otherwise known as Pick-ups! Find more from Craig on: The Toy Anxiety Podcast as well as the YHS (Yes Have Some) Podcast too!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today we have a bit of everything. There's some cool cool reveals to chat through including Secret Wars, deep cut Batman 66 and The Loyal Subjects big announcement. Another great kickstarter to spend monies on and the always awesome Radical Rewind event to recap. Then its present time as we get a care package from the legend Tealo! We attended a Toy Store grand opening and while it was amazing, it was also the source of some Toy Power controversy - one of the team has some explaining to do! In this special Toy Power episode we are joined by author Paul Flavel. He’s just released an amazing new book called John Martin's: The Story of South Australia's Beloved Department Store, which has been over 5 years in the making. We chat about many amazing memories of this beloved South Australian department store, from the incredible toy department (largest in the Southern hemisphere, that’s a fact, Jack) to the indispensable Eliza’s cafeteria (where the malt for your milkshake is always available), through to the Christmas pageant and the undisputed home of Father Christmas. If you have a love for this beloved SA retailer, do yourself a favour and check it out at https://www.johnmartinsbook.com (print run 1 is selling fast). You can curl up with your Marty bear and a cup of coffee from Eliza’s and enjoy this beautiful book that so beautifully captures an important part of our State (and Australian) retail history. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have Matt Teale back, to join us for another fun episode. But first, Matt would like to promote his upcoming journey in the "Shitbox Rally". Which translated into driving through Australia, across some very formidable roads. Matt & co-driver Chris aka Darstardly & Muttley, will be embarking on this journey next year, and is looking for donations, in a campaign for the Cancer Council. (Link bellow.) Then we jump into our Main Topic, which is another Best-Of-Voting crusade; this time all based around the Toy Heroes released from the 70's & 80's. We each have 5 votes each, with rules of no double-ups and no calling out the same character each from a franchise. This is another great run-down and suprisingly diverse too. With an extra voter on the pannel this round, its not suprising we have a few double-ups, but thankfully we have some secondary fall back choices. Rounding out the ep, we run out of time for a proper Latest scores chat, but there is a suprise for Frank that he opens on air. To support Dastardly (Matt) & Muttley (Chris), in a campaign to raise funds for the Cancer Councilhttps://autumn2025.shitboxrally.com.au/dastardly-muttleySupport the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

These toys sporting O'rings & completely unique sculpts. With an overall manufactured run of 29 unique Figures and 9 Futuristic Vehicles; assisted with a 65 episode Cartoon run! Plus a 15 issue Comic-Book run by DC. All these Figures & Vehicles featured a Cap-Firing Action Feature in some way shape or form. With ties not just to G.I Joe, but also maybe Gotham City as well?!? Utilising the amazing collection of ToyFair Catalogues for Colin's Collection - we analyze each year of the Toyline & what was released. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have special guest Criss Fresh back to join us for another fun new segment. Then Trent decides to chat about the 1988 Kenner Real Ghostbusters Toyline. With each of our choices, we look at what was released during that period and how it compared to the rest of the Toylines Run. This was a lot of fun to analyse. Its then into all the news, including the HasLab Cantina funding update, Garfield and Friends, an Ultimate D&D Tiamat (complete with all 5 heads) and new comic Kull and Conan figures! This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we are each given a tasked of calling out Five iconic Toy Villains. But we have placed some ground rules down, and narrowed the window of this rounds Evil Doers release dates to the years between 1970 & 1989. With the four of us in the room each voting; we will ultimately form the Toy Power Top Twenty Villains! This is a lot harder than one may think.... Do we let Nostalgia take-over our choices? Or do we have other methods in mind...? When push comes to shove, our individual choices might surprise a few people & our decisions are quite diverse! Then we MASK-UP as we sing our way into the mid-eighties Toyline that was M.A.S.K. from Kenner. We each pick out a standout release from each wave. This is incredibly fun, as some of us in the room aren't as familiar with the Toyline as others. This is where Floppy's general passion for this property really comes though! Then rounding out the ep, we have a unique un-boxing to do - with an in-hand Ramen Toys - Makina Labs - Red Gullwing. How does it compare to it's eighties counterpart? Mondo reveal a new line of Sofubi style TMNT and that has us all quite impressed! The Great Deku Tree, from Zelda is announced from Lego - but do we see value for money here? Super Shogun Metallic Mecha-Godzilla, now sporting 'Space Titanium' is certainly an upgrade to their previous release. Marvel Legends 3pk: The Cabal sports some wicked Villains & we are rather impressed by the news of Marvel X McFarlane statues depicting famous Comic covers. It's the other (better?) half of our fave Canadian duo - Jay Bartlett! He's here to talk about the upcoming release of N64 Quest, the highly anticipated sequel to the much loved Nintendo Quest. What are the rules this time around? Time crunch, budget pressure - how does Jay handle it? We've been granted special access to watch the first ep - no spoilers here but oh boy, we are in for a treat. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we are back to exploring all the Toy News that has hit our radar. Kicking things off, we are back on the McFarlane bandwagon with a 3pk Super Powers Batman set. New style 66' Batman figures. More offerings from Trick Or Treat Studios - with the offering of Dr. Killemoff, with a neat action feature! Hotwheels offers up a 1/64 Transforming Optimus Prime - but the price is at a Decpeticon level. New announcements from the most recent Transformers Live Stream - Studio Series 86; plus an old favourite out of the Marvel Comicbook run! Storm Collectables announce the 2nd Gatchaman character in their line-up - in the from of Jun the Swan. Finally Extandar has made it into the Origins line-up; and Mondo try their hand at Cartoon Turtles.... but just how successful do they look? Then we transition back to 1991 - as we review the most recent Radical Rewind screening of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Trent has some recordings from the night itself; and we chat about the overall sell-out event itself. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we reflect on our efforts from the big 350th ep. Can't thank everyone enough for all the banter on the various socials we received. Now its back to normal proceedings, as we start to increase on the episode numbers again! First news is centered around a Tribute via TMNT of Jack Kirby. Mondo drop a few bombs with their recent reveals of a 1/6 Thundercats line as well as 6.5" Real Ghostbusters line-up too! But that's not all, a teaser of the MOTU SkySled is incredible. Formo Toys announces a re-do of the Warriors Of The Galaxy aka Galaxy Warriors - what can we expect to come form this line? Plus more key Autobots from Missing Link. Then we transition over to our experiences at the April Adelaide Comic & Toy Fair. Such a great day all around! This thing is so big, we had to record in a different room! Streamed live on FB on May the 4th, we opened a truely once in a lifetime item: Mattel's Origins Eternia. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have Morgan back in studio to get to know a little more about him. Kicking off with the usual Favourite Toy & Favourite Movie as a 10yr old; plus, a bonus question as well. Then we jump right into another segment of our ongoing Vintage Toy Awards! Long time Patreon Morgan joins us to look at what happening in the world of toys. He's so keen that Frank forgets how to tune a microphone - apologies for the audio issues! There's a slew of Marvel Legends and more Makina - but which colour is our fave? Is this the best version of Cringer Mattel has ever done? Is Beast Man lacking the furry factor? Ben has a cow over the newly revealed Moo-Mesa figures before we look at what appears to be the swan song of The Masterpiece line. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we continue to delay the milestone 350th ep. However, we still have a fun new show for you all! Frank has just received his Super 7 Ultimates TMNT Party Wagon and brought it along to review on the show. It is equally very very large, and incredibly detailed. We break down all the features as well as the other items that are packed into this Vehicles release. Then 2nd segment is all around the Movies that have already been released thus far. We go around the room and see who has seen what - with a little chat on each as well as a rating out of 19. Movies include: Argyle, Dune 2, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Godzilla X Kong & Madame Webb. We're back - all of us this time! Frank details his trip across to the lands of Hobbits and roadworks before we hit another huge day of news. Lots MOTU, Marvel and TMNT but has Ghostbusters finally found a winning formula? It's been called the missing piece to Batman TAS but does that mean Trent's in? This week on The Toy Power Podcast, its just the dynamic duo again; Trent & Ben. This round, we kick things off with a kind of a new segment that we pitch a vintage toy against its modern counterpart version. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. Trent got so excited, he brought several options to the table. So we have Green Ghost (aka Slimmer), Power Arm Terminator, Stilgar from Dune, Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon & also Lion-O from Thunder Cats as well. Some we also have a 3rd option to chat to as well. Then rounding out the ep we chat to the first two episodes of the highly anticipated X-Men 97' Cartoon! This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have Brett back in studio to unpack how Davey & himself came up with the idea of Radical Rewind, as well as their journey to make the first screening of Batman 89'an absolute sell out show success!! This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we do a classic retrospective best of vote! But this time, instead of one big line; we select from three smaller lines, and vote accordingly. This in turn causes some confusion at the start, but we sort ourselves out; and get the votes right eventually! Sectuars, Silverhawks & Bravestarr are the challenges for this round, and it proves hard or sometimes overwhelming what gets our vote for each round. Then we pivot across to an extremely generous Mystery Box delivered to the studio from fellow Patreon member: FireFly_81 aka Micheal. In a Marvel heavy episode, there's some controversial Mattel moves that are very not-rock-n-roll. The Todd makes a face that not even a mother could love while the Legends team somehow make two different He-Mans. And is that Battle Cat I see? Why is Wolverine in blue? But it's all ok - because the best of all time Rogue is here. A record breaking mini-fig and all the Marvel on-screen reveals. Then we look at possibly the greatest wave of TMNT Ultimates - ever? Today it's the most wonderful time of the year. But before we get to unwrap out presents, it's time to recap on the wonderful Villains that exist in the vintage Turtles line. And just for kicks, Scot will act as judge, jury and swing vote! From 88 to 93 there are some bonkers, iconic and outright weird designs that call out. And just to add to the Xmas crazi-ness, there's even a little audio glitch that we manage to have fun with. Speaking of fun, we follow up on a promised story of what happens when Xmas Cards go wrong - and then right again! Merry times and best wishes to all our listeners as we take a break until 2024. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we dive headfirst into the latest news, and there is a surprising amount of it; given we are so close to Christmas! In the Xmas theme, we have another Figure Obscura character to celebrate, in the form of: The Ghost Of Jacob Marley. But that's not all from the Four Horseman, they have also announced a ZoloCon Exclusive - Skull-Man! Over to Neca next, and celebrating the Year Of The Rabbit, we finally get a proper look at the 4pk of Usagi Yojimbo. McFarlane Cross Hasbro deal, has many of us scratching our heads of what this might mean, and then also from the Todd Father, Wave 6 of his awesome Super Powers line, with some awesome figures announced! 50years of Wolverine is celebrated with an assortment of 2pks and rounding out the news is our great friend Guillermo Olivio whom has officially opened a Toy Store in Florida -Plastic Universe! Our 2nd main segment for this ep, is a bit of a McFarlane top 5 wish-list of Super Powers characters, we think should be made. A clear theme of Villains and Females is shouted out, but still a great and diverse roster that could see this line go-on for many waves! Today we are missing a Scot but subbing in for the first time on Toy Power is longtime Patreon Brendan Crates. The King of the Monsters is back but is that a good thing? Ben reports in. The Todd makes his customary appearance and is this the happiest figure he's ever done? And the biggest topic - in both scale and importance - GI Joe and Super7: Is this the ultimate partnership? Colin Betts writes in for his hot take. Jada toys doing the lords work before a questionable news item from Scot. A fab new Kickstarter to check out rounded out with some impressive latest scores. *mic drop*Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode is full of bombs. Both the explody-Universal Studios type ones, and the box office flops that nobody likes to talk about. Yes, it's time to talk about Waterworld. Kevin Costner at his problematic best in the middle of the ocean: what could possibly go wrong. But at least the toys were cool? Trent for the affirmative. Then it's our Patreon Hot Takes Part Deux and boy do things get a little spicy. There's fence sitting, high horses and some very silly silliness. BOOM! There is so so much to talk about that we run overtime is this episode that is both news, and features a special guest. From the EuroLegions Podcast our good mate John Caulfield joins in the madness. New Super7 Ultimates - have they finally jumped the shark? Every good Battle Cat needs a Panthor, enter Mondo! The Todd does Todd-thing with the usual DC cast and another out of total left field. More reveals of the TMNT x Master line and even World of Warcraft gets a run. John then takes us through the recent reveals at the ever-growing LegionsCon. Are the Four Horsemen the greatest niche company ever? There's also tales of adventure to be had from John's amazing trip. Get comfy cause it's a long one! This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have some Hot Take Statements that where submitted by our awesome Patreons. We go through some of them and go around the room unpacking the statement, whether we agree, or disagree to it. The power of nostalgia comes into question. Of course some of the biggest franchises come under fire; such as Batman, Star Wars & TMNT. The ease of custom 3D printing vs mass production? What about movies with a connected universe versus the good old standalone film? All this and more, as we only scratch the surface of this now on-going sub-topic. Then we each turn around, and review how each of us are tackling our own personal collections, with a bit of a State Of The Nation focus. In rounding out we actually swing back to the Hot Take topic, for an unplanned discussion. More reveals from McFarlane, and none of them are Batman themed!?! Some really neat Spiderman announcements from the Marvel Legends team - getting deeper into the universe. Some well overdue Star Wars announcements as well as crossover Transformers plus Beast Wars Combiners. The G.I. Joe Vamp vehicle is a true work of art along with the new Formo figures. Rounding out the news is Super7 ingenious ReAction of a classic Imperial colour variant. Then in our last segment, we list off the our latest scores! This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we are joined in studio with Steve Ready. We have the usual get-to-know-you questions; and then its into our main topic, which starts off being on the micro scale. Yes, in the same format of Polly Pocket & Mighty Max, Steve is renowned enthusiast for the Micro Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Toyline. Spanning from little foldout playsets, very small figures and the incredibly tiny and very easily lost weapons!! Then we raise the scale by a little bit, in order to chat about Steve's involvement in the Lego Community. Everything from Christmas Themed dioramas and the challenges to get it done, to Steve managing the local Lego events. All this and more, another great episode enriched by our guest.Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome long time listener Steve Ready to the show! We'll introduce him properly next week because damn - there is some news to get too! It's the crossover the late great Darren would have absolutely gone all in on: TMNT x MOTU. Meanwhile, Todd does Todd things but has he landed on a real mono-chromatic winner here? Mad Max meets Shao Kahn in a new reveal before we dive into Filoni's latest (and possibly greatest) Star Wars entry: Ashoka. Then a fitting farewell from our good mate Scotty The Toy Hunta as he embarks on a new life journey!
