Episode 47 - Total Saints Podcast

Sigh.......Another home game for Saints ends in the normal way these days - without a win! Chelsea the latest victors at St. Mary's, 3-0.Again, its a defensive horror show, with a mixture of familiar soft/sloppy goals being conceded. Far too easy for Chelsea in general. The week had started positively, with a Carabao Cup win up at Goodison Park, but it was soon back to earth with a bang, after Eden Hazard (and his mates) gave Mark Hughes side the run-around on Sunday. There seems no end to the Club's demise at the moment. Can't score at one end (despite a number of decent chances versus Chelsea) and can't keep them out at the other! On Episode 47, with Adam Leitch away, Ben Stanfield (Host) is joined by birthday boy Steve Grant (Owner of SaintsWeb) and Lucy Highnett. The three of them try desperately to maintain positive attitudes, but its hard. Really hard.Thankfully there's an International break for a couple of weeks now. A little ray of sunshine in what already looks to be a dark and gloomy season for the South Coast side!Twitter: @totalsaintspodFacebook: www.facebook.com/totalsaintspodE-Mail: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Episode 46 - Total Saints Podcast

Its another disappointing result for Saints in the Premier League this week as they lose 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. With 7 games now played, and only 5 points mustered, the South Coast outfit continue to frustrate the majority of their fanbase.Ben Stanfield (Host) is joined by regular guests, Steve Grant (Owner of SaintsWeb.co.uk) and Adam Leitch (Chief Sport Writer, Daily Echo) to look back at the 'performance' versus Wolves, and where they go from here.NBC Sport's Joe Prince-Wright, a big Saints fan himself, also pops in for a catch-up on all things red and white - including the Carabao Cup fixture at Everton and Premier League home game to Chelsea next Sunday. If that isn't enough, Paul Cox, a fan now based in Nebraska, talks about his relationship with Saints via the Club's North American partnership programme. The doom and gloom is starting to build around St. Mary's once more, but Ben, Adam, Steve, Paul and Joe do their very best to keep you entertained, with 100% commitment to the cause.Keep Marching In! Episode 45 - Total Saints Podcast

Total Saints Podcast (Episode 45) returns after a short break during the International fixtures, but some thing's never change - Saints failing to hold onto a lead and/or managing to compete in a game with one of the Premier League's Top-6!Ben Stanfield (Host), Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, The Daily Echo) and Steve Grant (Owner of SaintsWeb.co.uk) initially reflect on another frustrating performance at home to Brighton and Hove Albion - where Saints managed to throw away a 2-0 lead in the 90th minute! There were a couple of bright moments though - a pre-match light show and a Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg thunderbolt!Attention then turns to the somewhat predictable collapse at Anfield - 3-0 against Liverpool - before a preview of next weekend's tough looking fixture at Molineux against Wolves.Saints continue to show a number of worrying similarities with the last couple of seasons but, with only 6 games gone, surely they can't make this season as nerve-wracking as last, can they!?Twitter: @totalsaintspodFacebook: www.facebook.com/totalsaintspodE-Mail: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Episode 36 - Total Saints Podcast

Well, its taken 37 games but finally Saints have just about saved their Premier League status. Only a bizarre set of results, and a gigantic goal-swing, in the final round of fixtures will now see them relegated. But the drama on the pitch at the Liberty Stadium vs Swansea, where Manolo Gabbiadini scored to give Saints a precious 1-0 win, almost paled into insignificance compared to events off of it.Ben Stanfield (Host of TSP) and Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, Daily Echo) look back on quite an incredible 24 hours around the game - with Saints having to change hotel at really short notice, believed to be due to 'dirty tactics' by an overzealous Swansea fan(s).Once that had unfolded they were then advised their pre-arranged police escort from the new hotel had been cancelled. More 'dirty tactics'!?If that wasn't enough the Saints team then had to park their coach and walk to the stadium, as they hadn't been allowed to unload by Swansea staff, due to the home team doing so at the same moment. More 'dirty tactics'!?!?!Hard to think all the above could happen in the modern age of the Premier League. But it did - and Ben and Adam humorously chat their way through it all!The main thing is that Saints will be playing Premier League football in 2018-19. And its been some journey getting to the stage of confirming that!Total Saints Podcast is dedicated weekly Podcast that goes to the heart of all things Saints.Twitter: @totalsaintspodFacebook: www.facebook.com/totalsaintspodE-Mail: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Episode 35 - Total Saints Podcast

Football can be a cruel game sometimes!Saints fans found that out this past weekend, as Everton - assisted by some rather poor refereeing - scored an undeserved 96th minute equaliser, which cost Southampton 2 massive points in their quest for Premier League survival.Ben Stanfield (Host of TSP) and regular guest Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, Daily Echo), pick the bones out of another tough day at the office for Saints, before previewing the away trip to Swansea in just 48 hours time. A game that, certainly for now, looks to be a 'win and you stay up, lose and you go down' encounter.Sandwiched in the middle of that, Ben lets Adam know just how far he has travelled to watch Saints home and away this season (as if Adam wasn't depressed enough from the trauma of Goodison Park!!), and they also cover the traditional (and original) Player of the Season award - which the Daily Echo opened this week for voting, despite a testing season on the pitch (and in the stands).Total Saints Podcast is dedicated weekly Podcast that goes to the heart of all things Saints.Twitter: @totalsaintspodFacebook: www.facebook.com/totalsaintspodE-Mail: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Episode 33 - Total Saints Podcast

Football is just a game, right? There are more important things in life, right? Try telling that to Southampton fans who are currently sat on a weekly emotional rollercoaster (mainly heading in a downward direction!), watching Premier League survival slowly slip away.Saints again found an incredible ability to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory, as they threw away a 2-goal lead against Chelsea this past weekend. Its hard to see them remaining in England’s top division now, but while there’s life there’s hope (right?!!).Ben Stanfield (Host of TSP) is joined by regular guest Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, Southern Daily Echo) to review a number of talking points, including that red and white self-implosion in the Premier League fixture, as well as the upcoming FA Cup Semi-Final, also against the Blues.Alongside that the guys discuss Matty Targett’s comments whilst on loan at Fulham, briefly preview Leicester City away in the League later this week, before ending on a high with Adam talking poignantly about Rickie Lambert (footballer and man), who deservedly won the 2018 EFL’s Sir Tom Finney Award. Finally, TSP33 also sees Chelsea fan Garry Hayes, a member of The Chels Podcast panel and Producer of independent documentary The Blue Print, give his views and expectations ahead of that clash at Wembley.Total Saints Podcast is the dedicated weekly Podcast going to the heart of all things Saints.Twitter: @totalsaintspod Facebook: www.facebook.com/totalsaintspod E-Mail: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Episode 32 - Total Saints Podcast

Another week. Another Podcast. Another Saints defeat. Its an all too familiar pattern this season for Southampton fans. Despite a more committed display at Arsenal (well, certainly compared to last week at West Ham anyway!), it was still zero points collected and another step nearer relegation. Ben Stanfield (host of TSP), Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer at the Southern Daily Echo) and Richard Brereton (Saints fan and Head Writer/Editor of Saints Panel) join forces to reflect on the Arsenal game, as well as to desperately search for some hope and optimism ahead of next week's fixture at St. Mary's, against Antonio Conte's Chelsea.Things certainly look bleak for Saints now, with just 6 Premier League games left to play.Alongside that, with the sole purpose to try and lighten the mood (hopefully!), Richard and Ben also rattle through their "Worst Saints Premier League XI's", with some familiar names securing their places - including Ali Dia!But who'd be in yours? Episode 31 - Total Saints Podcast

"Hello darkness, my old friend, I've come to talk with you again....."You never quite know how low you can go as a Saints fan - but, after a 3-0 defeat at West Ham, a new level was located for this season! Dreadful. Effortless. Worrying. There are so many words you can associate with Saints' woes at the moment, and unfortunately none of them are positive! In TSP31, Ben Stanfield (host) and Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, Southern Daily Echo) try their best - yet again - to be constructive and/or positive, but its no easy task any longer! This Episode looks back at the fallout from the London Stadium, as well as previewing Saints next Premier League match, at the Emirates Stadium vs Arsenal.Sandwiched in the middle (with the sole aim of lightening the mood!), are highlights from the speeches at the official opening (28/3/18) of the SeaCity Museum's new "Southampton Football Club: We March On, Then and Now" exhibition - charting 132 years of memorabilia and stories associated with our great Club/City. Councillor Satvir Kaur, Saints Chairman Ralph Krueger, Lawrie McMenemy and the legendary Matthew Le Tissier all have their say.In the meantime, where do Saints go from here on the pitch? Episode 30 - Total Saints Podcast

International breaks are generally boring affairs for Club supporters but, in light of the season Southampton are ‘enjoying’, its actually been a relaxing time for Saints fans – with little or nothing to worry about for a couple of weeks. Bliss! With Adam Leitch taking (another) well-earned break, Ben Stanfield (host of Total Saints Podcast) is joined by the returning Lucy Highnett (@lucyhighnett on Twitter) and also Aidan Small (Owner of Fresh Saints; @mraidansmall). Lucy, Aidan and Ben reflect on Mark Hughes first game as Saints manager – a win away to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup Quarter-Final – as well as looking at Saints ‘record-breaking’ £43.7m profit, announced as part of this week’s 2016-17 financial results. To finish, the discussion moves on to Saints vital next Premier League game – away to a hostile West Ham United – and the return of a few more weeks of complete nervousness and worry! Episode 28 - Total Saints Podcast

Few words can really do justice in trying to explain how bad Saints were at Newcastle. From ‘number 1 to number 11’ it was simply shambolic and effortless. They let the entire Football Club down and, with pressure already building, may well have assisted in another Premier League manager being given his P45. Whether that does happen or not, only time were tell. In Total Saints Podcast Episode 28, Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer at the Daily Echo) joins Ben Stanfield (Host), to give a very honest assessment of what he saw at St. James Park – and it wasn’t pretty! Games are rapidly running out for Saints but, despite only 1 win in 17 Premier League games now, they remarkably still find themselves outside the relegation zone. Next up for them its Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup. Adam and Ben are joined by Barry Worthington, a Wigan fan and host of their Progress With Unity Podcast. Can Saints reach Wembley to ease some of the pain from this season? Will Mauricio Pellegrino be at the DW Stadium to lead them? As ever with Saints, it looks like it will be another rollercoaster week!Twitter: @totalsaintspodFacebook: www.facebook.com/totalsaintspodE-Mail: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Episode 27 - Total Saints Podcast

Consistent. A word synonymous with Saints this season for generally the wrong reasons. Consistently poor and unentertaining performances, generally rewarded with little (or few) Premier League points. Well, they were at it again this weekend with a rather drab 0-0 St Mary’s performance against Stoke. Ben Stanfield (host) and Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, Southern Daily Echo) attempt to pull out some of the key talking points from the game and make them sound a lot more positive and interesting than they really were. Alongside that, the two of them discuss whether Saints should consider themselves lucky that there haven’t been more signs of discontent from the fanbase at a truly woeful season, as well as whether they’ve misplaced the ‘local/family Club feel’ that they have always prided themselves on, in search of an improved global branding. The Podcast ends with a preview of the Newcastle United away game, which is next up for Saints in the Premier League.Twitter: @totalsaintspodFacebook: www.facebook.com/totalsaintspodE-Mail: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Episode 26 - Total Saints Podcast

It wasn't the result that Saints picked up at Burnley (1-1, thanks to a 90th minute equaliser from Manolo Gabbiadini - assisted somewhat by referee Bobby Madley!) that left Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, Southern Daily Echo) scratching his head, it was the manner of the performance. Saints were dreadful from start to finish and, in Episode 26 of Total Saints Podcast, Adam talks to Ben Stanfield (Host) about his enhanced nervousness for the coming weeks, based on what he witnessed. Alongside the Burnley review, Adam and Ben discuss a number of other topics in and around Saints currently, as well as previewing next weekend's crucial looking six-pointer versus Stoke City. Episode 21 - Total Saints Podcast

"Its deja-vu all over again!". Yes, once more Saints manage to grasp defeat (well, it felt like that) from the jaws of victory, after a very contentious (aka blatant!) handball goal in the last minute at Watford – as an entertaining game finishes 2-2. Sadly for Saints, Ben Stanfield (Host) and Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, Daily Echo) it was two massive points dropped in the quest for Premier League survival. The lads discuss the worrying similarities this season is now showing with 2004-05 (when Saints were last relegated from the Premier League), the need for VAR (Video Assistant Referees) to be introduced and the upcoming Tottenham Hotspur game at St. Mary's.
