Heads Up - Hiatus Time! - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

And now for something completely different! This is episode one thousand three hundred and fifty. For the last three years and 8 and a half months there’s been a new Tiny Bite podcast every day. My career was as a radio personality. Producing short audio gems filled with life wisdom that could be put to use right away has been my joy and my passion and occasionally my abject fear – can you imagine putting out a new podcast every single day? I couldn’t either – right up until I did it. And now I’m putting the Tiny Bites podcast on hiatus. It will be back and when it comes back, there’ll be some differences. What will those be? I’m not sure yet. I need some space to let ideas flow. I know that my passion to help you succeed will still be in every episode. Thanks for being here…stay tuned for Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness, version 2, coming soon to your feed!  Want more? How to Deal with an Angry Person - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Sometimes people are out of control. Have you ever had someone go off on you and you know you didn’t do anything to them? It happens, and it isn’t about you. If you’re like me, maybe you get really uncomfortable around an angry person. First, no matter what, don’t engage. Don’t respond. Let them rant. If you’re alone with the angry person and are afraid for your safety, move away slowly or leave if you can. If there are others around, move closer to those people. If the angry person seems like they’re never going to stop berating you, record them on your phone – shoot video of their tantrum. Taking a video of them behaving like a fool makes them consider how their actions look to others, which usually makes them stop. Don’t take it personally if someone goes off on you. Remember, it’s about them, not about you. PS...want more? Learning to Lead a Superstar Team - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Are you a team leader? Your team could be your family, it could be a volunteer group, it could be your work team – if you interact with a group of people, you’re on a team, and if you help to create success, then you’re a team leader. There’s one sure-fire way to help the people on your team be the best they can be: treat them like they already are. Seriously – listen to their ideas. Consider what they share with you, even if you think it won’t work. Give them opportunities to show you what they can do. When you treat someone like a novice in need of learning and wisdom, they won’t flourish because they spend their time second-guessing themselves. When you treat someone like a superstar, they become a superstar. Which type of team member do you want on your team? PS...want more? Can You Trust Yourself to Trust - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Trust is a tenuous thing, isn’t it? You trust someone, they are trustworthy, maybe for a long time, and then they betray your trust. Ouch on so many levels! First, that they betrayed you, then that you ever trusted them in the first place, then how you’ll ever be able to trust yourself to choose friends and partners worthy of your trust. Stop. It sucks, and it’s OK. The betrayal isn’t about you, it’s who they are. Let them go, and let the beating up on yourself go, too. Move on, because picking at any scab hurts only you. Move on, because you have this life of yours to keep on living, and it’s way more fun to focus on the good people, not the ones who’ve hurt you. And move on loving yourself for trusting, knowing that you can and will trust again because being a trusting person is part of who you are. PS...want more? How to Focus Yourself to Success - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Success depends on focus. Yes, the key to success is how and where you focus. Focus on your dreams and the day-to-day steps needed to get you there and you’re on the way. Focus on what’s wrong with your daily grind and you’ll never get to your dreams. While you’re focusing on what’s going right in the world around you, focusing on what your team members are doing right, what your family members are doing right, and what you’re doing right, your focus is on success. As you focus on success, you’re open to the different and often surprising pathways to that success. Daydream about where you want your life to be headed. It makes it so much more fun to get there! Got a Problem? Play With It! - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Everyone on this planet has had problems and suffered setbacks. Everyone…no one leads a charmed life of complete ease. How is it that some people seem to sail through their troubled times in style while others stay stuck in the unfairness and despair? Simple – mindset predicts outcome. People who focus on the problem get stuck in the problem. People who focus on possible solutions find productive paths through their problems. When you can look at problems as puzzles to be worked instead of pain that’s been inflicted on you from some person or business or government that’s out to get you, you’ve unlocked the pathway to a happier, more successful life. How to Be the Gardener of Your Life - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

You’ve had a lot of gardeners in your life. The people who raised you planted seeds. Your teachers planted seeds. Friends planted seeds, and so did a few not-so-friendly people. What you think and feel today is largely due to the seeds planted in your formative years. Your garden is made of the beliefs you’ve formed based on those seeds, especially the ones you really believed in and nurtured. Are there weeds that could be eliminated – probably, because each of us have allowed some to grow. As you move forward in your life, think of each opinion you hold as a plant in your garden. Do you want more of it, or is it a weed that you can pull? Every now and then, stop and marvel at how beautiful your garden is, and think about the seeds you’re planting in the lives of others. Leaving the Emotional Scabs Alone - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Do you slow down your own emotional healing? Many, and maybe most, people do. It’s hard to let go of something that hurts your heart or your pride. It can take a very long time to let go of those wounds, and it doesn’t have to. Just like you leave a scab alone to let your skin heal from a cut, you can leave the memory alone when it pops back into your head, demanding attention. Think of it as the scab – a reminder of the painful thing that happened and an indication that healing is happening. Just as you try not to pick at the scab on your skin, try not to pick at the scab in your mind. When the memory pops up inside your head, cover it with a mental bandage and focus on something else. Distract yourself and let your emotions heal in peace. PS...want more? One Simple Question to Help You Choose - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

My friend June has a very simple litmus test that helps her stay on an even keel each day: “does it give me energy or does it take it away?” When she needs to decide whether or not to do something, she asks herself, “does it give me energy or does it take it away?” When she has a lot to do and someone wants her to do something with them, she asks herself, “does it give me energy or does it take it away?” When she’s deciding which of her to-do’s to do next, she asks herself about each one, “does it give me energy or does it take it away?” Try it – it’s a very simple, very powerful way to keep your mental wellbeing a priority in your life. Keeping Calm When They're Toxic - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

You probably know someone like this: ready to share their negative opinion about everything and everyone. Yikes…toxic! They think women with movie-star looks are stuck up. They think men who drive beautiful sportscars are compensating for a little…well, you know. They think rich people are greedy and dishonest. They have an opinion about everyone and it’s usually not a very nice one. When someone behaves like that, it’s about them, not about the person they’re judging. It may be insecurity, it may be parroting what they learned as a child, and it could be they think the world and everyone in it is out to get them. Sad, right? If you can easily put them outside your orbit, great. If not, then make up a story about why they’re so negative that helps you find some compassion for them. Don’t tell the story out loud – it’s just for you, to help you still be at your best when they’re at their worst. PS...want more? Freeing Yourself from Painful Memories - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Does the voice inside your head keep reminding you of a painful life episode? When Dad’s Alzheimer’s disease made it dangerous for him to drive, my brothers and I got together and convinced him to stop. I bought his car, and though he was OK with it at first, he came to believe that I stole his car. He looked at me with hatred in his eyes and the last time I saw him he was yelling at me to get out. Did it sting? Yes. Does the voice inside my head beat me up about it? No, because Dad wasn’t able to process things clearly, and I was. I reminded myself that it wasn’t his rational, loving brain in charge, it was his broken one, and that helped me cope with his anger. I loved him and loved myself enough to let the rest go. Who do you need to love like that today? What do you need to remind your brain to let go of? PS...want more? Using Your Imagination to Reach Your Dreams - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

The first place where your dream can become a reality is in your imagination. What do you want? I want to live near the beach, and I daydream about beach life often. When will it become a reality? One day it will, and I can be patient in the meantime because the daydreams are fun and satisfying. What do you want, and can you simply enjoy your daydream until your dream happens, too? Many people refuse to use their imagination to enjoy their dream because they don’t want to be disappointed. They’re missing out on loads of fun! When you can enjoy playing with your dream in your imagination, you’ll have the feeling of living your dream each time you do it, and that’s almost as good as the real thing! PS...want more? Keeping People From Pushing Your Buttons - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Have you ever used the phrase, “that person just my buttons”? Do you know what the important word in that sentence is? My. Those buttons belong to you…yes, there are people who annoy the living snot out of you. Most of us know a person or two like that. Remember, though, those are YOUR buttons. Let’s say your partner chews with their mouth open and it pushes your buttons. You have three choices: Don’t eat meals or snacks with them Talk to them about polite dining behavior Shift your focus to something else while eating with them Shifting your focus takes diligent practice, and when you get good at it, those who push your buttons will have no power over you because you’ve hidden your buttons. How to Quit Calling Yourself on the Carpet - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Have you ever heard the phrase “don’t should on yourself?” Maybe you’ve heard it on this podcast, because I believe “should” is a dirty word when you apply it to yourself. You might as well stand there wagging a finger in your face, chewing yourself out for not living up to expectations. Who’s expectations, though? Are you over 21? Are you self-supporting? What do YOU expect from yourself? I’m not asking you to spew what other people expect from you – this is your life and your expectations are the ones that matter. The expectations of others are not in control of your life unless you let them be. Don’t. Live up to your own expectations – that’s where self-confidence and self-esteem come from. PS...want more? Taking Charge of Your Raw Emotions - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Did someone do you wrong? It happens. Are you still angry or hurt or vengeful? That’s not on them, that’s on you. When you stay stuck in the muck of being hurt, you’re making a choice to let the other person control you. Seriously - they’re not in charge of your emotions, you are. But if you’re still crying to your friends, fixated on what that person did to you, you are putting that person in charge of your emotions. Yikes! They have no right to control you. You control you. You choose how you feel and what you focus on. Forgive yourself for not knowing this, and starting right this minute quit focusing on the memory when it pops into your head. This will give you the tools to walk away, because when you’re not angry and vengeful, then they’re not in control of you and your emotions. Take charge – let it go! PS...want more? Boundary Train and Thrive - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Have you ever heard of boundary training? Today I want you to begin boundary training all the people you deal with, especially those you love. It’s common to say “yes” when people request things of us because we like them, like helping them, and sometimes it’s just easier. Right up until it isn’t. Don’t wait until you’re ready to explode – set some boundaries. Giving people we care about boundaries is hard – it doesn’t come naturally and it goes against our desire to build communities and be of service. Boundaries are necessary because otherwise you’re disrespecting yourself, your time and your needs. Set small boundaries at first, so you can practice enforcing them, and then set some bigger boundaries and practice enforcing them. Boundaries might initially irritate the other person because they’re used to being able to walk all over you. If they’re worth having in your life, they’ll value you, your time, your talents, and your generosity enough to quit challenging your boundaries. If not, they’re not worth having in your life. How to Use Your Heart to Make Someone's Day - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

When was the last time you really touched the heart of a stranger? I was at the checkout counter and the cashier seemed like he was having a bad day, so I decided I’d make him smile. Why? Because it would be fun for me and good for him. As I handed him paper money I asked if the store accepted “the annoying green stuff.” Close, but no smile. The change would only have been a few pennies, so I told him to please hang on to those pennies in case someone needed them later. Eye contact – still no smile. I looked him in the eyes and thanked him for being there so people could get what they needed easily. Eureka – a smile!  And the feeling it gave me to see it was at least as good as the feeling he got from me. Will you make it your mission to touch the heart of a stranger at least once a week? Try it and I bet you’ll soon be doing it every day. When you touch a heart, you give yourself that same feeling, too. PS...want more? Why The Best Leaders Follow - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Want to be a great leader? Realize it’s not about you, it’s about your team. Know each person – what they’re passionate about outside work, whether they’re better solo or on a collaborative project, and what support they need from you. Each one of your team is an individual – they existed before you began to manage them and they’ll exist after the two of you part ways. While you have them, be a good human being, being interested in them as people, being transparent when you make a mistake, going to bat when they make one, and rooting for the success not just of your team but of each person on it. Sure, you’re the boss. Be the one the team rallies around, roots for and will follow through the fire. Be the leader that follows the hearts of your people. PS...want more? Do You Celebrate Success? Really? - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

How do you feel when you see a confident, successful woman? Happy for them? A little tiny bit jealous of them? Or do you go off on how they didn’t earn it or even if they did, they’re probably such a rhymes-with-witch that they don’t deserve it? Sadly, a lot of people have a knee-jerk reaction in a bad way towards success. They assume the successful person is wicked and undeserving because that helps them feel better about themselves. The truth is, we’re all human. We all question ourselves, get hurt so badly we think we’ll never get over it, and we all are judged and criticized by others. You know what that feels like, right? Not good, so why would you do it to someone else? If you want to be confident and successful, stop condemning others for showing you how good that looks. Celebrate them so you’re poised and ready to celebrate yourself, too. PS...want more? Do You Even Know Who You Are? - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Do you even know who you are? Sure, you know your name, you know yourself in relation to your job and your friends and your family. So let me ask you again – do you know who YOU are? Each day you’re alive, you have the chance to learn a little bit more about you. Did you get adventurous and try a new-to-you kind of food? Did you get brave and introduce yourself to someone before they introduced themselves? Did you say something sweet or profound and surprise yourself with goosebumps or puddles in your eyes? Those types of interactions help you learn who you are at your core. They help you grow as a person, grow in self-confidence, and grow in self-knowledge. Want to know who you are at your core? Are Nightmares Your Brain Trying to Help You? - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Have you ever had stress dreams when you’re starting something new? When I worked on the radio, each time I’d go to a new station the stress dreams about saying the wrong call letters or not being able to reach the microphone switch on the control board would haunt me for about a week. Has that ever happened to you? Those dreams don’t feel good and can leave you with lingering dread throughout the day, but they don’t have to. Try to reframe the dream from a bad one to a way that your brain is practicing while you sleep. It would be nice if it would practice in a more positive way, but it is what it is. When the feeling of the bad dream crops up during the day, remember it’s your brain helping you succeed. You’ve got this, whatever it is! PS...want more? Stop Trying to Explain Yourself - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

How often to you explain your actions to others? May I lovingly suggest you stop doing that? Here’s why – people see you and respond to you based on their life experiences, not yours. They see you as they are, not as you are. When you try to explain yourself, they’re hearing your words through the same set of their life experiences that made them misunderstand you in the first place. Explaining yourself makes the situation worse – they think you’re weak and you walk away feeling even worse about the situation and yourself. When you feel like you need to explain yourself, say these words either inside your brain or right out loud – I’m good. Because you are, whether anyone else can see it or not. PS...want more? Using Your Feelings to Achieve Your Goals - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Think about something that’s a current goal of yours. It doesn’t matter if it’s a personal or professional goal, focus on it. How does it make you feel? Excited? Anxious? Frightened? Goals are wonderful to have because they give us an excuse to focus, learn, and grow. That’s the excited feeling – the possibilities of who you’ll be once you’ve accomplished the goal. Anxiety and fear are the “can I do this” or “am I good enough” thoughts that result from trying to know how the goal will happen before you’re ready for it to unfold. Think about just one thing that you’ve already accomplished – did you have all those feelings before achieving that goal? Probably, and yet that turned out OK, right? It will this time, too. Using Your Brain to Create Success - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

You’ve probably heard that the brain can’t tell the difference between what you’re thinking about and what you’re actually experiencing. You can use your brain’s powerful imagination to create more success. Athletes train mentally as well as physically, going through their upcoming performance in their head, seeing themselves excelling and winning. You can do that, too, about anything you want to achieve. Focus on how you feel as you confidently go about achieving your goal and focus on what it feels like as you achieve it. See yourself successful, and whenever you have a few moments in your day, go through that exercise again. When you do that, you’re training your brain to focus on the success you desire, and you’ll be better at seeing the clues that will help you achieve your dream. PS...want more? Going From Toxic to Terrific on Your Team - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Do you work as part of a team? When you walk into work, how does the atmosphere feel? Supportive and helpful or guarded and suspicious? Which atmosphere would you rather work in? When a team is operating well, they are supportive and generous with each other – generosity of spirit, of time, and of assistance. When that’s the atmosphere, turnover is low and targets are achieved or exceeded. When people are guarded and suspicious, they are in fear, and fear creates high turnover and low team output. If you want to improve the atmosphere around you, think about what you and your people might be afraid of. Even one toxic person can destroy team cohesion. Find a way to remove the toxicity and watch generosity, support and assistance return to your team. PS...want more? The trick about being a successful AND well-loved control freak is to know what you actually can control, and only try to control that. You’re only in control of you. Not the weather, not the traffic, not other people’s thoughts, feelings or behavior. None of that will bend to your will, so give it up. When you get irritated at anything that’s outside of your control, laugh at yourself and remind yourself that you and only you can control that feeling of irritation. This kind of control freak is so do-able for you, and when you master it, you’ll be like most of the world’s successful people. Now go out there and be the control freak that everyone wants to be around! PS...want more? Hurting? Here's How to Feel Better - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Is there something going on in your life that’s so distressing that it seems to suck all the light and life out of you? That’s an awful way to feel, and that feeling is a normal response, so the first thing I want to remind you is to be kind to yourself. Challenges and losses can feel as if you’ll never get over them. Here’s the truth about everything: it’s temporary. No matter what is happening in your life right now, it’s temporary. Time continues to pass, and whether you feel it or not, you continue to adapt, heal, and grow. In the short term, lean on your friends and family when you need to, be patient with your ragged feelings, and stick with your normal routine as much as possible. In the long term, this is a painful page in the entire book of your life. You have so many wonderful pages still ahead of you. PS...want more? How to Lead Your Boss to Be a Better Leader - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Want to help your boss be a better leader? Boss them around! OK, maybe something a little more subtle than that would be better. First, what kind of leader is yours? Poor leaders boss people around, mediocre leaders complain and play favorites, and great leaders own their mistakes and lift up their people. When you see an area of improvement for your boss, here are three things you might try: Share with them that you’re reading a great book on leadership skills and ask if they’ve read it or want to read your copy? Be responsive and enthusiastic when they get leadership right. Offer constructive criticism when you’re in a one-on-one situation with them. When someone feels sincerely seen, appreciated, and uplifted by another person, they’re more willing to learn and grow. PS...want more? Do You Know You're a Genius? - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Are you a genius? I bet you are! Wait, before you start telling me how not-smart you are, here me out. Genius is attention to and passion for a subject. Genius is intense curiosity allowed out to play. Genius is you being into a topic, learning about it, and expanding yourself into it. That’s all genius is. Think about something you have a passion for. For me, it’s dogs – how they think, how they interact, how we interact together, and how I can put those puzzle pieces together and create an inter-species display of teamwork. That’s my genius. What’s yours? Today I want you to think about what you’re curious and passionate about. Think about what you enjoy learning about and doing. Once you’ve figured out your sphere of genius, own it. Celebrate your genius, and then get out there and be even more genius about it! PS...want more? Does Worry Equal Love or Not? - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Do you worry about someone you love? Think about what your thoughts are as you’re feeling worried about them – what, specifically, are you worried about? Would it surprise you to know that the act of worrying about a loved one is a VERY unloving act? Worry is focusing on their weaknesses, and when you’re looking at their weaknesses – which we all have! – you’re not focused on the parts you love, so by definition, you’re not loving them while you worry. Loving someone is choosing to focus on what’s right about them and what’s right in their life, not what’s wrong. When you can teach yourself to focus on what’s good about them and their situation, you’ll feel love, not worry. Use your powerful brain…shift your focus…and love that person instead of worrying about them. PS...want more? Do You Know How to Avoid the Stress of Avoidance? - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

What do you avoid doing? Think about this carefully – what is one thing that you’ll put off doing until you absolutely, positively have to do it? Or maybe you’ve been putting something off for a long time and still haven’t done it and have no plans to, even though you know it must be done? Avoidance is normal, and avoidance causes you stress, because somewhere in the back of your mind there’s this little irritating thing reminding you of whatever you’re choosing not to do. How do you feel when that happens? Chances are you get a feeling of dread, maybe even with the “iceberg in the stomach” feeling. I know you know how to make that go away, right? Just do that thing you don’t want to do and the stress of not doing it vanishes, replaced by a feeling of accomplishment. I know – it’s not easy. I avoid things too. We all do. Today, think about how you could break that chore into steps, and then accomplish one step a day until it’s done. You’ll feel soooooo much better! PS...want more? Are You the Bigger Person? - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

Are you a generally satisfied person? By that, I mean you don’t worry all the time, you don’t get angry easily, and you try to see the best in others. If so, yay you! Are most of your friends pretty much the same? Yay, you! You’ve set yourself up for success. If you have one or two friends who can be difficult to be around because they like finding drama in every situation and have a more fiery disposition, that can add spice to your days. Just try not to get caught up in their dramas or become a pawn in their crusades. People with different opinions, experiences and ways of being in the world will help you learn and grow, even if you don’t want to grow into who they are. And who knows – maybe the example you set of being on an even keel most of the time, finding the silver lining most of the time, and managing to be calm when others aren’t will help them grow to be more like you! Irritation, Offense, and Poo on Your Shoe - Tiny Bites of Wagaliciousness Podcast

How often do you get offended? Does it upset you when people mispronounce your name? Do you get huffy if someone calls you ma’am and you think they think you’re old? How about when the waiter seems to be ignoring you? When you find yourself starting to get offended and defensive, stop. If you were out walking and saw a pile of dog poo sitting on the ground in front of you, would you walk around it, step over it, or step in it? Think of the things that offend you as dog poo…just walk around them or step over them. When you choose to step in poo, it’s not the poo’s fault that your shoe is stinky! PS...want more?
