Killdozer. The story of one man, Marvin Heemeyer, who modified a Komatsu D355A bulldozer into a demolition weapon, and then go on a two plus hour rampage in the small town of Granby, Colorado in 2004. The Happy Face Killer. Wow. What a dirtbag! What an especially hate-able dude, even for a serial killer. Keith Hunter Jesperson raped and strangled at least eight women in the early 90s. His crimes were hard to link together because of the spread out location of the bodies - women's remained dumped off the side of various roads as he traveled around the United States, working as a long-haul trucker. Keith wrote to the press during his murders and signed his letters with a smiley face, why he was dubbed the "Happy Face Killer" by a journalist for the Oregonian. In the late 1960s, James Baker transitioned from the spiritually-minded owner of a vegetarian restaurant on Los Angele's Sunset Strip to Father Yod - the leader of a cult based on the belief that he was, pretty much, god-in-the-flesh. The cult was also based in a lifestyle of sex, drugs, and rock n'roll. And also vegetarianism. Bust mostly sex and rock n'roll. Roughly 150 counter-culture flower children lived together, first in LA, and then in Hawaii, giving themself super cult-y, crystally names like Moonbeam the Aquarian. And then Father Yod lost his faith and the whole cult went down in a tragic hang-gliding accident. It's a strange story and I enjoyed telling it today, on Timesuck! Serial killer Robert Hansen abducted and killed at least seventeen women and hunted many of them down in the Alaskan wilderness in the 1970s and 80s around Anchorage. This bakery owner and sport hunter was convicted in 1984 after confessing to killing seventeen women, mostly dancers and prostitutes, during a twelve-year reign of terror. Hansen led a very strange dual life - a happily married, donut-making father of two, while at the same time frequenting Anchorage's strip joints looking for young women to kidnap, rape, and then sometimes also hunt and kill. Since 1971, well over thirty women have disappeared along a fifty mile-long patch of I-45 between Houston and Galveston. Some refer to this stretch of the Gulf Freeway as a highway to Hell, and to the marshy land around it as "The Texas Fields." Initially, the press only referred to one twenty-five acre patch of land in League City, an abandoned oil field, as the Texas Killing Field after the remains of two women were found in early 1986 on the same day. And both bodies were found near where a third body had been uncovered in 1984. And then more bodies turned up on and around this old oil field. Who killed these women? 2019 is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing! Yip, yip, yaw! Former Russian police officer Mikhail Popkov was found guilty on December 10th, 2018 of killing fifty-six people in Siberia. All but one victim were women between the ages of seventeen to thirty-eight. He was given a second life sentence. He already had a life sentence he'd been given in 2015 when he was convicted of murdering twenty-two Russian women. He used his badge for years to lure women into his car, drive them out into the woods, and brutally rape and kill them. And the whole time he was also a devoted husband and father. His family was devastated by his arrest - refusing for years to accept that the man they thought they knew so well could commit the horrible crimes he was convicted of. South American serial killer Pedro "Monster of the Andes" Lopez was convicted of killing 110 girls in Ecuador in 1983. He claimed to have killed roughly 350 between Ecuador, Peru, and his native Columbia. He spent only fourteen years in prison for those 110 Ecuadorian murders and then another three years in a Columbian psychiatric ward for additional murder conviction in that country, and then he was set free in 1998. The Mothman is a strange creature reportedly witnessed mainly in the Point Pleasant area of West Virginia between November 12, 1966, and December 1967. He turned himself in and was sentenced to a state mental healthy facility where this killer with a genius level IQ manipulated psychiatrists into thinking he was cured. Happy New Year's Eve! We take a look back at 2018 and a look forward to 2019 today on Timesuck. We also find more inspiration in the tales of Nick Vujicic and Bethany Hamilton. Nick was born with Tetra-amelia syndrome - a rare disorder characterized by the absence of arms and legs. But he hasn't let that stop him from learning to skateboard, surf, swim, "walk", and even jump. He's incredible! And he's also a self-made millionaire and married father of four. Bethany Hamilton is a pro surfer who had a Tiger shark bite off her left arm when she was thirteen. She was back in the water a month after the attack and within three years became a professional surfer winning numerous awards and tournaments. Malvika Iyer had both her hands blown off by a grenade when she was thirteen years-old. The blast also turned her legs into a mangled mass of blood and bone.
