You don't always have to play for score just because you paid the greens fees, right? If you're having problems with your wedges, hit a few different balls when you get up around the green. If it's long irons giving you trouble, hit more than one. If you want to work on getting out of the trees after your drive (now how many strokes would it save me if I could learn how to do that correctly???) put a few balls down inside the tree line and work on the right shots to get out. All you need to do is keep up with the group ahead. Don't hold up anyone and no one will even realize what you're doing.
