98. Showing Our Children God's Miracles

Welcome back to the kitchen table. This week Bethany is joined at the table with Gabe and Andrea Olson, the authors of The Big God Books series. As parents, we use books as learning tools for life moments and to provide our children with a deeper understanding of the world. Books help kids understand something without having to experience it themselves. Bethany sits down with Gabe and Andrea to learn more about the series and how we can use these beautiful books to bring God's work to life through tangible stories. Bethany shares her experience using this series as a powerful conversation tool and an avenue to justify her children's feelings. In this episode, we learn about the real-life moments that have inspired Gabe and Andrea's books. But also the importance of using this series as a reminder of God's goodness. We live in a world of hopelessness, and using these stories helps children of all ages to talk about God's miracles. Connect with Gabe and Andrea: Gabe and Andrea Olson are small business owners, founders of Overflow Worship, authors of The Big God Books and mom and dad to three girls. They are from small town Minnesota and their mission as children’s book authors is to share about the unique miracles (some big, some small) happening in everyday life. At first, The Big God Books were originally created to preserve the miracles they had seen in written form for their three growing children to open up the conversation about God, faith, prayer and miracles in their own home. Now, it’s become their goal to spread the message of hope, that God still does miracles today. And to provide tools that help other families also have these monumental, and beautiful conversations with their children, too, so words like “God, miracles, prayer and faith” are part of daily life. Welcome back to the kitchen table. This week Bethany is joined by a dear friend, Rachael Adams, for a beautiful conversation. Motherhood is an extremely high calling, a glorious undertaking, and the most important job in the world. Yet, we can lose ourselves in seeing our significance. Many mothers can get lost in the mundane tasks of the day-to-day, from washing bottles, playing hide and seek with pacifiers, and rallying through the car pickup lines. As life moves forward and culture places value on the bigger and better, we lose sight of our significant contributions. Rachael and Bethany speak light on the impact of the little moments and our true impact on the world by raising our children. This episode provides hope, and inspiration and speaks enormous value on the role that God has specifically chosen for you. For the past couple of weeks, Bethany has been walking listeners through the depths of the Gospel story. She has shed light on a lens that applies to all parts of life, not just motherhood. This week Bethany is unpacking joy and its ability to uproot despair. In motherhood, we wear our hearts on our sleeve, and many places make us feel despair. Bethany uses scripture and metaphors to help listeners understand that joy is not an emotion we feel, but instead, it’s the ability to see what Jesus has done for us. Throughout this episode, Bethany speaks light on understanding God’s grace and how he provides us with security and confidence. Jesus walks beside each of us, wanting to show us what true joy is. 74. Purpose in the Pause

Welcome back to the kitchen table. In this week’s episode, Bethany invites you to join her at the table as she discusses the purpose of the pause. In motherhood, we are often in the thick of crazy as we move fast, and Bethany guides listeners in finding the purpose in the pause. Bethany guides listeners in helping find the purpose by using reflective questioning and taking a deeper dive into uncovering the truth or lies beneath our reactions. The pause has been pivotal for Bethany in her motherhood and can offer: Insight and understanding into your child’s heart See more clearly who Jesus is Helps you understand yourself and the lies you are believing The pause offers you a chance to invite God in, have gospel conservations, and reflect and determine how to restore in situations rather than yield with scripture. Bethany encourages listeners to grab a piece of paper and answer these questions to help them get alone with God and set their minds on him. These questions can help listeners understand in what ways they can apply the pause to their lives and how to invite God in. Have you ever taken time to pause? Have you ever thought there was purpose in the pause? Have you ever prayed specifically for yourself? Have you allowed him to be the source of your comfort? Bethany provides practical advice that intersects with the Gospel, allowing mama’s to rest easy and remember that YOU are the chosen one for your child. While sleep training, potty training, and character training can serve as struggles in our motherhood, they are also holy places where God invites you to hold his hand. 63. Turning to Jesus for Resetting and Realigning w/ Joy Pitner

Welcome back to the kitchen table. This week Bethany is joined by an amazing woman, mom, and friend, Joy Pitner. Bethany and Joy take a deeper look beyond the cultural narrative that as women and mothers, we need a glass of wine especially after the tough days. We are culturally conditioned to turn to everywhere but Christ in moments of overwhelm or even in times of celebrations. But, instead of picking up that glass of wine when you need a re-set, take a moment and let Jesus realign and reframe you. By asking yourself these questions, you can better equip yourself to stand in truth and stay grounded in scripture rather than let the world define truth for you. Where is my heart? What is going to bring me peace? What is going to heal my wounds? Joy floods us with wisdom and reminds us how Jesus is our mainstay. He is bigger than natural knowledge, and by standing on promises, we can begin to shift our perspective into seeking the Lord to realign us. Jesus is bigger than all of the other things, and even when you seek him at the end of a tough day, there is no judgment because he calls us. And by reminding ourselves through the Gospel and scripture, we can combat the cultural normals and remember that God is bigger than all things. Welcome back to the kitchen table. Are you feeling the constant stretch and pull of the world? Are you running a race that you can’t possibly win? This week, Bethany dives deeper into understanding the spiritual race and how to run it while staying anchored in God’s truth. Bethany shares her feelings and experiences of overwhelm, anxiety, apathy, and anger. She talks about how the lies from the enemy whisper powerfully inside of us during these moments of weakness. But, we must identify these lies and take a deep breath of God’s grace and mercy. We live in a culture that has shaped us to believe that failure and success equate to our identity. We are led to believe that our end result is what matters. But, in fact, our identity is given by God. Our identity was created at the cross, and we are provided a beautiful role. Bethany offers scriptures for how our identity is declared in Jesus Christ. Philippines 3:9, Romans 8, and Ephesians 2:10. Jesus Christ is the source of our worth and our dignity. We can stand in his truth regardless of what obstacles are thrown our way. God wants to run this with you, and we need to return to understanding who we are in the gospel. Colossians 3:1-4 speaks to the spiritual race so profoundly, and Bethany encourages you to keep this one in the forefront of your mind. S1 Ep 6161. When Mistakes Mount Up: Applying the Gospel to Our Mom Mistakes

Welcome back to the kitchen table. This week Bethany sits down with Jennifer Pepito for a fantastic conversation on battling feelings of fear, guilt, and shame when it comes to mistakes. Not only mistakes that we make as parents but also walking through our children’s mistakes. As moms, we battle with fear, especially when it comes to parenting. And, when our children make mistakes, we can instantly experience guilt, embarrassment, and failure. Both Bethany and Jennifer provide a wealth of wisdom on how we can combat those feelings and how we can join our children and walk through mistakes without shame. But instead by applying grace and forgiving ourselves. Parenting isn’t perfect, but God did not intend it to be. And, he doesn’t shame us when we make mistakes. It’s a calm conversation. In moments where we meet our children with shame, rage, and big emotions, we can step back and ask God for forgiveness and turn to scripture to guide us through our mistakes. We are often overcome by fear when we raise our children because we want them to love God, have a happy life, and follow Jesus. And, oftentimes we focus on behavior and performance, and fear mistakes. Where instead we can learn to walk by their side offering reconciliation and forgiveness when your child might fall from the path. But, with the Gospel and Jesus, we can remind ourselves that we are beloved by him and extend this grace to our children.
