Ep 43Ep. 43 - Mike Brancatelli - Host of Mikeadelic Podcast, Psychedelics, Decriminalization, Comedy & Liberty
Hey everybody! Episode 43 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Mike Brancatelli. Mike and I met when he came to the Amazonian plant healing center the Temple of the Way of Light. We hit it off right away, both coming from New York and having an interest in the ideals of Liberty. I’ve been on Mike’s podcast twice, so it was great for me to finally have him on mine. We got into myriad topics including his background, his podcast, comedy, psychedelics, the effort he is a part of in the decriminalization movement in Colorado, men’s groups, and the ideals of Liberty and why they are so important, especially in the times we are living in. I always really enjoy speaking with Mike and I think you all will enjoy this conversation and hopefully get a lot out of it. To view bonus material, get access to Q&A’s, and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!"For the last 5 years, I've been the host of Mikeadelic podcast. I also have a new comedy show out right now on patreon.com/mikebranc that will be launching publicly in the summer. Some episodes of the new show entitled Dosadelic are out on the Mikeadelic pod feed. From 2014-2016, I was the co-host of Part Of The Problem podcast with comedian Dave Smith, a libertarian comedy podcast. I am a psychonaut, a facilitator, cultivator, and have been intentionally working with high doses of mushrooms and ayahuasca since 2014. I performed stand-up comedy in NYC, backpacked around Southeast Asia, worked at an ayahuasca center in the Peruvian Amazon, and helped the campaign to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms in Denver. I also do podcast consulting, voice-over acting, characters, and impressions. I'm currently focused on holding rites of passage/ initiation retreats, and hosting men’s work retreats in Colorado, and am currently offering 1 on 1 "coaching" sessions. Soon, I will be doing live podcasts and shows again. I consider myself to be a comedian, activist, heterodox thinker, anarchist, and paradox holder. I am focused on spreading the message of liberty and healing through entertainment. ”To learn more about Mike or to contact him, visit: https://www.mikebranc.com/ and all of his links can be found here, including his podcast: https://linktr.ee/MikeadelicThis episode of the show is sponsored by the Temple of the Way of Light. Aline and I are actually neighbors at the moment during the pandemic and I often admire her beautiful garden. Ep 38Ep. 38 - Ute Behrendt - Sacred Plant Medicines, Facilitation & Psycho-Spiritual Integration
Hey everybody! Episode 38 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Ute Behrendt. Ute and I met at the Amazonian plant medicine center, the Temple of the Way of Light, where she works as a facilitator for plant-medicine ceremonies working with the Shipibo lineage of medicine. I’ve worked with Ute for a number of years now and really enjoy her partnership, wisdom, kindness, and care for all of the guests she looks after. She has had a varied and interesting life including working in psychiatric hospitals and in therapeutic institutions in Germany. She has also spent a number of years learning from a strong Shipibo family of doctors. I think this gives her a really balanced and holistic approach to her work. She is constantly learning and growing and has a lot of insight to offer. I think you all will enjoy this conversation and learn a lot. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!"Over the last years, Ute has dedicated herself to learn and study with long-term Masterplant Diets in a well-known and respected Shipibo Healer lineage in the Ucayali region in Peru. She sees herself as a bridge between ancestral wisdom and Western understanding of life. Besides studying in the Shipibo Tradition with Sacred Plants and her Shipibo Maestros, she also is studying different psycho-spiritual approaches to understand the mind and human experience better. For Ute, Psychology and Spirituality are not separate when you want to experience wholeness. She is fascinated about integrating and connecting different approaches and using different pathways to find and explore inner truth…She is organizing Masterplant Retreats & Diets and works as a facilitator in a well-known Ayahuasca Center. She also provides online psycho-spiritual inquiry sessions and mentoring packages. She believes that everyone has their own answers and wisdom inside, and that’s why she is focusing on questions and letting answers unfold by themselves…Before she moved to Peru, she worked in a psychiatric hospital and in therapeutic institutions in Germany for almost 10 years… In Peru, working and studying with the Shipibo Healers and Sacred Plant Medicine, she found the missing link.”For Ute’s full bio, visit: https://www.universewithinpodcast.com/podcast/ute-behrendtFor more information about her work, visit her website: https://www.true-journey.net/This episode is sponsored by the Temple of the Way of Light: https://templeofthewayoflight.org/Share the show, Subscribe or Follow, leave comments, and if you can go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Ep 37Ep. 37 - Will Spencer - Plant Medicines, Esoteric Knowledge, Travel & On Being A Man
Hey everybody! Episode 37 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Will Spencer. Will and I met at the Amazonian plant medicine center, the Temple of the Way of Light, where he came down as a guest to work with ayahuasca in the Shipibo lineage. I befriended Will and followed his journey as it transpired from there onto a four-year journey around the world in a search for inner and outer discovery. Will has experience working with plant medicines and has a deep interest and knowledge about various esoteric traditions. He also recently started a podcast, called the Renaissance of Men, where he tries to discover and teach what it means to be an integrated man. Will has a lot of knowledge and wisdom to share and it was a pleasure sitting down and speaking with him. The podcast went almost four hours but we delved into myriad topics and I think you will gain some unique insights and potentially be exposed to some new and important ideas. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!"Eight years ago, my life was a mess. I was overweight, filled with grief and shame, and pursuing the wrong goals for the wrong reasons. Then I found strong men who held a mirror up to me and helped me see, “You can’t get there from here.”Two years later, I had turned my life around. I even liberated myself to pursue my personal Hero’s Journey: solo backpacking around the world, which I fulfilled to wild success.Along the way I discovered my mission, my “Why”: to pass on what I’ve learned about what it means to be a man. Now I create transformation in my brothers, guiding them to Purpose, Passion, and a Place of honor in their lives, just as I found mine." Ep 36Ep. 36 - Irene Pérez Méndez - Plant Medicine, Jungian Archetypes, Research & Integration
Hey everybody! Episode 36 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Irene Pérez Méndez. Irene and I met working at the Amazonian plant medicine center, the Temple of the Way of Light, where she initially came down to do research with ICEERS on the long-term effects of ayahuasca. While there, she also taught art therapy and worked with Jungian archetypes, and eventually started facilitating retreats. I've had the chance to know Irene for a number of years and she's one of my favorite people in this work. She brings joy, passion, humor, and integrity to her work. And she has a lot of knowledge about this work through her own experience and also through having worked with many people. It was a pleasure for me to sit down and catch up with her and I think there is a lot to be gained by her sharing. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Ep 35Ep. 35 - Monica Gagliano - Scientist, Author & On Plant Intelligence
Hey everybody! Episode 35 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Monica Gagliano. Monica is a scientist and the author of the very good book, Thus Spoke the Plant. Monica’s scientific research has focused on plant intelligence, communication through sound, and cognition. She has a really interesting story and has not only experienced plants and life through her scientific work, but also with her own direct experience of plants through ceremonial practices. I think Monica really embodies the true spirit of a scientist, someone who is willing to question the world, even in the face of adversity, and to come to conclusions that help to illuminate and deepen our understanding of the world we live in and our relationship to it. I think she is doing very important work and I imagine her work will only continue to grow and expand as it becomes more accepted. It was a pleasure speaking with her and I think you all will gain a lot out of it. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy! “My main research is broadly focusing on key aspects of the ecological processes by which organisms are able to gather information on the variable conditions of their surrounding environment in order to thrive. In collaboration with various disciplines across the Sciences and the Humanities, my research aims at expanding our perception of animals, plants and more generally Nature. In the process of learning how to do this, I have pioneered the brand-new research field of plant bioacoustics and extended the concept of cognition to plants, re-igniting the discourse on plant subjectivity, sentience and ethical standing. I am a Research Associate Professor in Evolutionary Ecology at the Biological Intelligence (BI) Lab, Southern Cross University, a Research Associate Professor (Adjunct) at the University of Western Australia Research Affiliate at the Sydney Environment Institute, University of Sydney.”To learn more about Monica, visit her website at: https://www.monicagagliano.com/And to learn about the Mind of Plants book and symposium she spoke of, visit: https://www.themindofplants.com/This episode of the show is sponsored by the Temple of the Way of Light. Ep 34Ep. 34 - Richard Condon - Plant Medicine, Ontology & Integration
Hey everybody!! Episode 34 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Richard Condon. Richard and I met at the Amazonian plant healing center, The Temple of the Way of Light, where he came to drink medicine and began offering his work to help align, deepen, and bring distinctions to the organization. I have learned a lot from Richard and consider him a teacher. His work with ontology, distinctions, language, alignment, and integrity has taught me a lot and helped me to deepen the work that I do. One of the questions I’m often asked is about plant medicine integration, and Richard’s work is an excellent tool in aiding in this. His work is really powerful outside of this field as well. I really enjoyed this conversation. To me, Richard really embodies what an inquisitive, clear, and focused mind is able to accomplish, as well as a big heart. I always enjoy speaking with and learning from Richard and I think you all will get a lot out of this episode. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below.“From a very young age I have been interested in thinking and living from a quote by Buckminster Fuller:“How can a single individual make a difference in the world.”My own evolution traversed from my early career as a drummer in a rock band opening for some of the preeminent bands of the 60’s to being an entrepreneur, primarily, in the restaurant and nightclubs...In the middle of my life I asked myself the question at the end of my life, what is it that I want to have fulfilled? The answer was having made a difference in people's lives in a profound way and to have elevated our own humanity…As I enter the last act of my life I have been even more deeply engaged in Bucky’s question. This has given rise to a deeper exploration of a new access to living, “Living an Aligned Life.”Currently I have also partnered with Jeff Willmore to deliver The Entrepreneurship, Accomplishment & Autonomy Course. This unique structure and methodology deliberately steps away from the “tips and techniques” kind of business knowledge that betrays top performance and instead, allows you to embody the advanced knowledge of a market leader and allows you to design leading edge practices based on your own original thinking.”Richard’s full bio: https://www.universewithinpodcast.com/podcast/richard-condonRichard’s website: https://www.missionb.coThis episode is sponsored by the Temple of the Way of Light: https://templeofthewayoflight.org/Share the show, Subscribe or Follow, leave comments, and go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Ep 33Ep. 33 - Jason Grechanik - Interview on Plant Medicines, Ontology, and Personal Experience
Hey everybody! Episode 33 of the show is out. A number of people have been asking me to do some more solo talks so I thought this would be a good episode to release an interview I did recently with my friend Will Spencer on his podcast, The Renaissance of Men. Ep 30Ep. 30 - Brian James - Yoga + Plant Medicine + Shamanism
Hey everybody! Episode 30 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Brian James. Brian and I met working together at the Amazonian plant-medicine center the Temple of the Way of Light. Brian is a yoga teacher and plant-medicine practitioner. I always really enjoy talking to Brian as he has a real depth of knowledge of yoga from a perspective that not many people have. He does a wonderful job at explaining the roots of the yogic practice and also how he sees the interconnection between that path and the path of shamanism. For such broad and diverse subjects, he is able to beautifully explain them in simple ways and show the universality of all of these paths. I think you all will gain a lot from listening to this talk, much as I did. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!“Brian James is a transformational coach, yoga teacher, musician and shamanic practitioner currently living Vancouver Island, Canada with his wife Debbie and their dog Kingston. A lifelong musician, artist, and curious seeker, Brian began exploring yoga and plant medicines over twenty-five years ago. After a crisis in his mid-thirties — burned out from his job in advertising and struggling with stress, anxiety and addiction — he began his own healing journey in earnest. He’s spent the last decade learning from master teachers and exploring in greater depth the medicine paths of yoga, music, shamanism and psychology. He shares conversations with some of the teachers he’s met on the Medicine Path Podcast and has written two books: Yoga & Plant Medicine, published in 2019, and Harmonic Movement, a vinyasa yoga practice manual.Since 2012, Brian has dedicated his life to sharing the healing power of yoga and music, and has taught around the world — from Shanghai, China to the heart of the Amazon jungle. He regularly teaches group classes and workshops and works 1-to-1 with individuals, helping them develop a personal practice and supporting them in recovering a sense of wholeness and freedom. “Learn more: brianjames.caTo view the Shamanic Yoga series Brian created and receive 15% off, use the link: https://vimeo.com/r/32Ww/LjJOdjROTHor go to http://vimeo.com/ondemand/shamanicyoga and enter code "UNIVERSE15" This episode of the show is sponsored by the Temple of the Way of Light. Hey everybody! Episode 29 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Eduardo Carvalho. Eduardo and I met working together at the Amazonian plant-medicine center the Temple of the Way of Light. ‘Edu’ has a really interesting story and I’ve gotten to know him and seen him do really good work. He approaches this work through his own journey of healing and knowledge and brings that depth to his work. He is a very talented musician and a genuinely nice guy with a big heart and desire to share and help. I have a lot of respect for Edu and I hope his sharing inspires and teaches. Enjoy!“Eduardo Carvalho is a musician with 23 years of experience.Four years ago he started his spiritual adventure with sacred medicine plants. The work started by going through his own process of healing by doing ceremonies in the Netherlands and dieting in Peru. On this journey it was clear that his music skill and vibration would become his new life path. At that time he was invited to tour Europe and Peru doing ceremonies with a ‘Mestizo’ shaman. After an extensive process of retreats, the time came to part ways with his shaman and then he embarked on a self-healing journey with Shipibo lineage shamans doing dietas in Peru with different curanderos.Early this year he took a ‘curandero initiation course’ by the Ayahuasca Foundation at the Inkan Kena plant medicine school in Iquitos dieting master plants and learning all of what entails leading an ayahuasca ceremony. The personal approach to the work can be varied between icaros from different lineages, plus the medicine songs and several different types of instruments and frequencies. All done with love and care..”To contact Eduardo about his work and/or ceremonies, visit his FB page at: https://www.facebook.com/Dub.Action/ or email at: [email protected] also his YouTube page at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbRsTY5O2-Zhj3y3DgJNs4wThe song Edu sang was by Artur Mena. She runs ceremonies and dietas in the tobacco tradition in which she was trained. I have a lot of respect for Merav and her work. Ep 27Ep. 27 - Tatayo - Ebando: Iboga, Bwiti, & Gabon
Hey everybody! Episode 27 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke Tatayo. I have known about Tatayo for a number of years as we share mutual friends and he comes from the same tradition that I worked with iboga with. He was called to Gabon and to iboga over forty years ago where he has been living and working ever since. It was an honor to talk to someone with so much experience working with such a powerful plant and a pleasure to hear him speak about his life, iboga, and his experiences and thoughts on Gabon and life. We spoke for almost three hours and it was a fascinating conversation and one of my favorites. I hope and think you all will get a lot out of this conversation. And a big thanks to Debbie Rivet for helping to organize and make this interview happen. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!“Tatayo (“Fruit of the Wind”) first came to Gabon in 1971 at the age of 21 and became a Gabonese citizen and settled in Libreville. He was the first white person to be initiated into the Bwiti Fang tradition in Gabon in 1979 and was later initiated into the Misokko traditions in 1994. Some would say that Tatayo has since “opened the door” to westerners in Gabon, and has served as a guide for numerous expeditions and missions including National Geographic, the BBC, and many others. He co-founded his first Gabonese NGO in 1981, which has since lead to the creation of Ebando in 1999 and is recognized as a healer and a Nima, someone who has freed and detached himself. Having initiated more than 350 banzis (initiates), he has supported hundreds of local people, or, he has indirectly supported thousands of local people, leaving a substantial positive footprint along the way.”For more information on Tatayo and his work, visit his website at: http://ebando.org/Also, Tatayo is offering online consultations and guidance for those interested in working with the Sacred Wood in Gabon. Romulo comes from a lineage of Shipibo plant doctors or curanderos. He is one of the most dedicated doctors I have met and really spends a great deal of time and care on the patients he works with. He is also quite young for a doctor and I think he is one of the harbingers of a new generation of Shipibo doctors. He has a beautiful ability to share and express complex ideas simply. I think you all will get a lot out of this episode. And a big thank you to Tanya Kammonen for translating and opening up the conversation to a larger audience. She was juggling quite a few roles in this podcast and her effort was admirable. He is a traditional medicine practitioner and lineage holder who has been studying since a very young age, with his grandfathers and parents. In addition to the practice of traditional medicine, he has studied nursing and psychology and investigated a wide range of complementary spiritual practices. He’s an artist, musician, father, and investigator. He eloquently shares teachings with the intentions of respect and clarity, holding the guidance of the past and staying present to the current day. He is the president of Oni Xobo, an intercultural organization based in Pucallpa, Peru.”For more information on Romulo and his project, visit his website at: https://www.onixobo.org/Share the show, Subscribe or Follow, leave comments, and if you can go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Tanya and I met working together at the Amazonian plant-medicine center the Temple of the Way of Light. Tanya headed the Integration team at the Temple and facilitated workshops there as well. Tanya has a really interesting background and brings a depth of knowledge and experience to her work. I have seen her work deeply with and help many people. She has a lot to share and continues to go deeper into her own work and within the Shipibo tradition. Tanya went pretty deep and spoke about some really important things within this work. It was a great conversation and I think you all will get a lot out of this episode. And to view the extended version of this interview, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!“Tanya Kammonen has Finnish, Irish, Ukrainian, and Hungarian roots. She grew up in Canada close to a river and has been interested in consciousness and spirituality since before having words for those concepts. She studied biology and naturopathic medicine and after seeing an increasing number of patients in her practice looking for help with integration post-ayahuasca, allowed that to become a full-time pursuit and became the first Integration Director with the Temple of the Way of Light, developing methodology and programming to help people make sense of their experiences and impactful changes in their lives. Since becoming a mom to her incredible son she has been consulting in various plant medicine-related projects and is part of the founding team of Oni Xobo, an intercultural organization that investigates designs, and implements projects related to medicine, art, culture, and environment, through a lens of divine love. Her intention is to apply and share what she has learned in ways that are true and inspiring to other human beings.”For more information on Tanya and her project, visit her website at: https://www.onixobo.org/Share the show, Subscribe or Follow, leave comments, and if you can go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Una nota: para ver las notas del episodio en español, visite mi sitio web a: https://www.universewithinpodcast.com/podcast/nelson-barbaran-gomezHey everybody! Episode 19 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Nelson Barbaran Gómez. Nelson and I have worked together for a number of years running ayahuasca ceremonies. He comes from the Shipibo lineage of working with plants and brings a joy and openness to his work that is tangible. He also works with a great deal of integrity and has a real desire to help and to share. For these reasons, I think he is a really good example of a great curandero. He is leading the way for a new generation of doctors and he has a lot to share and offer. I think you all will get a lot out of this episode. And a big thank you to my friend Carolina for translating and opening up the conversation to a much larger audience. Thank you! As always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy! “Nelson’s Shipibo name is Isasina, meaning “a bird who takes care of others.”Nelson comes from a family of curanderos; both his father and grandfather practiced medicine. His parents died when he was very young, and very early on he started sitting in ceremonies held by his older brother, who is also a curandero. Lacking parental guidance, Nelson learned from the medicine “how to be a good human being.”Nelson drank ayahuasca for the first time at age twelve and was immediately fascinated by the medicine world… After a year, his brother agreed to initiate Nelson on the path to become a Shipibo Onanya…He is also passionate about his own culture and sees his work as a vehicle to recover and preserve traditional practices and knowledge in a rapidly changing world. He enjoys seeing schools in some native communities teaching the Shipibo language again, encouraging kids to dress in their traditional clothes, address each other in their Shipibo names, and is proud of his role in the current revitalization of the Shipibo culture.”For Nelson’s bull bio, visit: https://www.universewithinpodcast.com/podcast/nelson-barbaran-gomezConnect with Nelson on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/nelson.barbaran.7Share the show, Subscribe or Follow, leave comments, and if you can go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Hey everybody! Episode 17 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with Carlos Tanner. Carlos is the founder and director of the Ayahuasca Foundation, one of the leading ayahuasca retreat, education, and research centers located in Iquitos, Peru. I really enjoyed this conversation. His journey with ayahuasca began in 2003 with his own profound healing experience, leading him to move to Iquitos, Peru in 2004 to live and apprentice with a curandero named don Juan. Four years later he came up with the idea for the Ayahuasca Foundation, which has helped over a thousand retreat participants as well as over five hundred students of the Shipibo healing tradition. Along the way he got married, had a child, and built a research center that hosts ayahuasca medical research. He supports the decriminalization of plant medicines on a global scale and looks forward to a new era of medicine that centers around a consciousness based understanding of health.”For more on Carlos, the Ayahuasca Foundation, and his work, visit:https://www.ayahuascafoundation.org/https://www.instagram.com/ayahuascafoundation/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMhs4h2WMbYZ1_d58I4j8DwShare the show, Subscribe or Follow, leave comments, and if you can go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Her deep immersions into the realms of Advaita Vedanta, Yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Plant Medicine, high-Andean and Amazonian shamanism have led her to understand that all paths are complementary, and ultimately lead to the very same realization of Unity, which she likes to refer to as 'remembering'. Ep 15Ep. 15 - Dr. Joe Tafur, MD - Integrative Family Physician, Curandero, Author and Speaker
Hello everybody. Episode 15 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Joe Tafur. Joe and I met in the Amazon where we were both working at Shipibo plant-medicine centers, myself at the Temple of the Way of Light and Joe at Nihue Rao. Joe is a medical doctor and was drawn to come to the Amazon to work with and learn from traditional Shipibo curanderismo. Joe is a really interesting guy as he bridges the more ‘Western’ medical model with the more ‘traditional’ plant-healing systems. Joe has immersed himself deeply in both worlds and has the ability to speak to them both and how to bridge them together, respecting and learning from both systems. I always enjoy speaking with Joe and I think you all will enjoy this episode. Ep 14Ep. 14 - Felix Durden- Plant Medicine Guide, Shipibo tradition, and the Journey of Apprenticeship
Hey everybody! Episode 14 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Felix Durden. Felix and I met working together at the Amazonian plant medicine center The Temple of the Way of Light. Felix came to plant medicine in search of meaning and healing. And he has gone deep into the process of learning how to do this work, particularly in the Shipibo tradition. There aren’t many people from outside the Shipibo tradition that have gone this deeply into it. So he really has a deep knowledge of plants, of tradition, and the journey it takes to become a practitioner of this work. I always enjoy talking to Felix and I think you all will gain a lot of information and wisdom in this episode. And check out Patreon (see below) for access to the full episode. I hope you enjoy it!“Felix (Soi Pino in Shipibo) first began his medicine journey attempting to heal from Lyme disease contracted in 2008. At its worst, he experienced a wide array of symptoms: anxiety attacks, memory loss, brain fog, and organ failure. After little success with conventional treatment, his research led him to consider exploring ayahuasca as an alternative. In 2013 Felix traveled to Peru to receive the medicine, and after experiencing relief from his symptoms, decided to stay on long term to learn more about traditional healing modalities. Felix has spent the last five years working closely with the medicine and the Shipibo people. For the first two years of his apprenticeship Felix worked at well-established amazonian center assisting over 1000 people in ceremonies. Felix later left to go to Pucallpa receive more in depth healing and instruction with his maestro. Through the medicine he was able to find incredible healing and relief from the pains of Lyme. Through his maestro’s lineage, he has been given full permission from his teacher to serve medicine and to provide healing diets. With the blessing of his teacher Felix holds this medicine with great love and respect, and has a deep passion for service.” To learn more about the work Felix does, visit: https://bodyofprana.com/For Felix’s podcast, called Beyond Words with Felix and Allen, visit: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/beyond-words-with-felix-and-al/id1524513312Share the show, Subscribe or Follow, and if you can go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Hey everybody! Episode 13 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Allen. Allen and I have worked together for a number of years at the Amazonian plant medicine center The Temple of the Way of Light. Allen has worked there as a facilitator, essentially a bridge between the guests who come down and the indigenous doctors who work there. He has a wealth of experience in that field and has worked with a number of master plant medicines and really has a deep grasp on what this work is and how to express it in different ways. Allen and I have had many conversations over the years and it’s always a pleasure to sit down and speak with him. He has a lot to share and teach and I think you’ll get a lot out of this episode. Cheers!“Allen is a plant medicine facilitator and space holder. He is the co-host of the Beyond Words with Felix and Allen podcast, available on iTunes and Spotify. He spent the past 6 years in Peru learning from various plant medicine traditions and facilitating retreats at the Temple of the Way of Light healing retreat center in the Amazon. Hey everybody! Episode 12 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Tsu-Yin Chang. Tsu-Yin is a Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapist who I met working at the Amazonian plant-medicine center The Temple of the Way of Light, where she came as a guest. I found her story fascinating as she has spent a number of years studying meditation in a monastic setting. She combines her mindfulness-based training in her work as a psychotherapist. Spawned by her own experience and interest, she recently began the process of training in psychedelic-assisted therapy through the well-known organization MAPS. I always find people interesting who bring various backgrounds together to better understand the mind and to assist people in their journeys with that. Ep 11Ep. 11 - Mark Flaherty - Author, Astrology, & Ayahuasca
Hey everybody! Episode 11 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with Mark Flaherty. Mark Flaherty is a consultant astrologer with clients in over 60 countries. He has studied with Dr. Geoffrey Cornelius, former President of the Astrological Lodge of London, and Bob Mulligan of the Astrology Company, Florida. He is adept at translating the astrological symbols into simple English so that everybody can use this information to better understand themselves and live happier, more fulfilling lives. As always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy! I’m really interested in the stars, cosmology, ancient civilizations, numerology, and esoterica, so it was interesting for me to hear his knowledge about astrology. I enjoyed this conversation and I hope you will too. Cheers! To learn more about Mark’s work visit his website at: https://mark-flaherty.com(This is a footnote and follow-up from Mark on the significance of the number 12: "Astrology is essential about the union between the masculine/feminine, yin/yang - the Sun and the Moon. 12 comes from the relationship between the Sun and the Moon. The Sun symbolically speaking is the 1 (one year is one orbit of the Earth around the Sun) and the duality/dividing of the One into the many is made by the Moon. There are roughly 12 lunar cycles (29.5 days from New Moon to New Moon) in the year. So the Sun is 1 and Moon 2 (duality), which also come together as 12. So the full circle of astrology is divided into 12 parts - the One into the many. So 12 essentially represents the Sacred symbolic marriage of the Sun and Moon. I got it from an astrologer friend, Acyuta-bhava Dasa.")Share the show, Subscribe or Follow, and if you can go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Ep 10Ep. 10 - Claude Guislain - Anthropologist and "Bridgekeeper," Indigenous Wisdom & Modern World
Hey everybody! Episode 10 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Claude. Claude is a Peruvian anthropologist and ‘‘bridgekeeper,” an apt title for what he has become. I met Claude working at the Peruvian Amazonian plant medicine center, The Temple of the Way of Light. I find Claude to be a truly great bridge between many of the indigenous cultures he has studied and worked alongside with, and the outside world. He holds a depth of wisdom and an ability to communicate complex and different ideas in a very human and simple way. I could speak to Claude for hours, as we ended up doing in this show. Its three hours long but I think you will find Claude’s insights invaluable and very enlightening. This was one of my favorite conversations. I always enjoy talking to him and I think you will too. As always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy! “With experience living and studying in the West, and apprenticing with Peruvian and Ecuadorian curanderos, Claude calls his mission at the Temple “bridge keeping”: the art of establishing and facilitating smooth communications and understanding between different worlds.Claude was born and raised in Lima, geographically close but very far away from the medicine traditions of the Peruvian jungle. While living in Europe he learned about Peruvian shamanism, and the idea of teacher plants such as San Pedro and ayahuasca fascinated him enough to return to Peru. But Claude’s first experience with San Pedro sent him directly back to Europe to study anthropology before he traveled to Iquitos for his first experience with ayahuasca in 2003.Here, he found the perfect setting for his research fieldwork as he became deeply engaged in how local ayahuasquero traditions were being understood by Westerners and how traditional medicine practitioners were interacting and understanding their foreign guests. Right before graduating with an Anthropology License, Claude met an Ecuadorian mestizo curandero who traveled often to Europe and chose him as a helper and apprentice. After five years working with this man and his beautiful medicine in Europe and Ecuador, Claude again decided to return to the roots of the medicine in Peru. He has been working and learning from Maestra Ynes Sanchez and her family since early 2013 and collaborating with the Temple of the Way of Light since June 2015.”These are the links Claude mentioned: https://www.facebook.com/bridgekeepers and https://chaikuni.orgShare the show, Subscribe or Follow, and if you can go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Ep 9Ep. 9 - Michael Kokal - Lawyer & Podcaster on History of Drug Laws and Religious Use of Plants
Hey everybody! Episode 9 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Michael Kokal. Michael is the host of the End of the Road Podcast, a lawyer, and a former engineer. In this episode, we spoke a bit about the history of medicines and drugs in the United States and court cases that have set precedence to their illegality. We also spoke of recent court cases pertaining to the religious use of certain plants as a sacrament. And we discussed the changing climate in the US in regards to the medicinal value of some of these plants and how there may be an opening to them as legalized medicine in the near future. I enjoyed speaking with Michael and I think you’ll find this episode informative and engaging. Hey everybody! Episode 8 of the show is out. In this show, I sit down with Bernhard Karshagen. Bernhard works with the plant medicine Huachuma or San Pedro, a cactus indigenous to the Andean regions of South America. I’ve known about Bernhard for a long time through mutual friends and colleagues, so it was a pleasure to sit down and have a talk with him. I haven’t worked with Huachuma so it was interesting to hear his perspective on it. I find Bernhard a humble and wise man and he seems like a really good guide who has delved deeply into this plant and holds a really beautiful space. I think you’ll gain a lot by listening to him. I hope you enjoy it. Ep 6Ep. 6 - Lila Lopez-Sanchez - Shipibo Medicine Woman, Ayahuasca, & Ceremony
Una nota: para ver las notas del episodio en español, visite mi sitio web a: https://www.universewithinpodcast.com/podcast/lila-lopez-sanchezWelcome! In this show, I sit down with my friend and colleague Lila Lopez-Sanchez. Lila is a Shipibo curandera or doctor who specializes in the plant medicine ayahuasca. I've worked with Lila for the past seven years and for me, she really embodies the role of a doctor and healer. She brings a joy, knowledge, care, and precision to her work. It was a pleasure to talk to her. As much of the audience is English speaking, I enlisted the help of my friend Carolina (who I interviewed in episode 5) to do live translation. As always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy! "Maestra Lila Lopez-Sanchez’s shipibo name is Caná Jisbe - 'A Flash of Lighting.’ She is the youngest daughter of Maestra Ynes, and Maestro David.“Maestra Lila grew up with her grandparents and highly-respected Onaya healers. At the age of 13, Lila was the victim of a strong energetic attack. She then moved to live with her mother, Maestra Ynes and dieted a mighty tree named Catawba. The diet succeeded in curing that evil harm and served as the gateway of Lila’s path as a healer. Being the rebel that she is, Lila resisted the way, sometimes in favor of leading a ‘normal’ life, but after the birth of her two children, the plants persisted in calling her to work with them. Since then, she has worked with her mother and other highly respected teachers throughout Peru and is also a specialist ikaros Warme. She works with an incredible amount of love and compassion and is an absolute joy to have her in the team."For more information about working with Lila, visit: https://templeofthewayoflight.org/ http://niweraoxobo.com/ https://www.circleofliferetreats.com/ Share the show, Subscribe or Follow, leave comments, and if you can go on Apple Podcasts and leave a starred-rating and a short review. Ep 4Ep. 4 - Sacred Tobacco
Welcome! In this show, I talk about tobacco. For those who are new to this work, it may seem strange that tobacco is being spoken of as a medicine plant. And not only is it medicinal, but it is also considered a Master Plant, a plant that has the ability to both heal and teach. For those of you who are familiar with tobacco, I hope this sheds some deeper light onto this plant and for those who are not familiar, hopefully, this offers some insight and sparks curiosity.
