Ep 176S2E84 - Australia and Rebirth
EIn this episode we welcome back the great Daniel Torridon of the Onion Unlimited podcast to talk about his recent, let's call it...life adventure. Daniel developed a romantic relationship with a woman who lives on the other side of the globe. Despite the distance and against all the odds he took the leap to travel to see her. They already knew each other intimately, albeit virtually, but the stars aligned! Daniel is now in the process of selling all his things and permanently relocated to live in Queensland with his twin flame. Let's hear that story. Enjoy :)

Ep 175S2E83 - The Fable of Substance, Motion and Space-Time
EIn this episode Chris gets back into Alfred North Whitehead's "Process and Reality." We talk about our fundamental assumptions and intuitions of reality (such things as substance, extension, time, etc.) and explore how these things fit into Whitehead's process cosmology. This gets us into an conversation about God and a few minor disagreements with the great man. Enjoy :)

Ep 174S2E82 - Gender = Gonads
EThis turned out to be a spicy episode. Kyle and Chris discuss Elon Musk as a modern-day Ayn-Randian hero. We discuss Chris' participation in a research project at the University of Exeter on transformative psychedelic experience. But that's not all. We talk about IQ research and all the controversy that goes along with that. We talk effort versus genetic inheritance, the difficulty in understanding philosophic and academic language, the wild west and the idea of "community." Come and get it while it's hot! Enjoy :)

Ep 173S2E81 - Horse Meat
EThis one is the Thanksgiving plague episode where Chris recounts his vicious bout of flu, but also reviews all the great television he watched while recovering. We touch on Ye, the weird, socially-enforced censorship of history and discuss the advantages of developing community in a way that puts the power, creativity and direction in the hands of its members (and not Papa Government). Enjoy :)

Ep 172S2E80 - Testosterone and Doubt
EIn this episode Chris and Kyle get back together after 2 weeks off. We talk about the possibilities of the 2024 presidential election in the U.S. and about the dark realities of a social credit system. He discuss the value of church, of traditional preaching and of human motivation and manipulation. We ask whether spiritual/psychological "maturity" is a matter of will power or if it boils down to hormone levels. Enjoy :)

Ep 171S2E79 - What the Hell is an Actual Entity
EIn this episode Chris highlights his beef (so far, anyway) with Alfred North Whitehead's model of reality--Philosophy of Organism. He poses the questions that beg for an answer and highlights where Whitehead fails to be clear. Just what the hell is an "Actual Entity"...or an "Eternal Object" for that matter? Whitehead tells us that experience arises from "primary data" and that "a thing" mediates between Potentiality and Actuality. He then waits pages and pages to clarify, with mixed success. I may be taking issue more with his writing style than with the substance of his metaphysics. Listen and let me know if I'm being naive, if I'm missing something, or if my criticisms are valid. Enjoy ;)

Ep 170S2E78 - A Successful Hunt, Kwanza and Election Integrity
EIn this episode Chris talks about the importance of storytelling and shares the tale of his first successful hunt. Kyle develops several incredible marketing slogans directly off the top of his head. The conversation then turns to a comparison of Kwanza with Wicca. We wrap up with Chris' impressions of Alfred North Whitehead and the integrity of our elections. Enjoy :)

Ep 169S2E77 - The Sun, Swedenborg and the British Accent
EIn this episode Chris reconnects with friend of the show--Daniel Torridon--of the Onion Unlimited podcast. We talk "Mind" with a capital "M" and Emanuel Swedenborg's strange and speculative thoughts on the nature of our Sun. The conversation then changes to discussion of our relative accents of the English language. We share our comedic ignorance of each other's homeland, geography and yes, accents. Enjoy :)

Ep 168S2E76 - Whitehead’s Model
EIn this episode Chris dives deeper into Alfred North Whitehead's "Process and Reality." We walk through Whitehead's metaphysics conceptually and learn all the Whiteheadian vocabulary words: "Creative Advance," "Entities," "Eternal Objects," the "Primordial and Consequent natures of God," "concrescence" and the like. We find out what the "Process" is in "Process Philosophy" and we ask the hounding question: "What the hell is an Actual Entity"? Enjoy :)

Ep 167S2E75 - Halloween Episode
EIn this episode Kyle comes dressed as Slipknot, to Chris' surprise. But, what the hell, it's Halloween. We talk about the embarrassing lack of political, historical and geographic knowledge among your everyday American. Does "Great Britain" mean the same as "United Kingdom"? We talk stereotypes and racisms among Europeans and the interesting double standard in how society views poor minorities versus poor people among the majority. And much, much more. Enjoy :)

Ep 166S2E74 - Art, Symbols, Interpretation
EIn this episode Chris attempts a psychological interpretation of the symbols in the great painting by Salvador Dali entitled: Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man. This was an exercise in the same type of free-association the depth psychologists like Freud and Jung engaged in. In it Chris tries to understanding what meaning is and where it comes from. He begins and ends with the same overarching question: Can there be valid meaning interpreted in symbols/art beyond what the artist intended? If so, what does this say about meaning in general? I've provided the link to the Wiki below as a reference to the image: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geopoliticus_Child_Watching_the_Birth_of_the_New_Man

Ep 165S2E73 - Look Who’s Talking
EIn this episode Chris and Kyle discuss the culture war, Tolkien vs. Rowling, and then highlight a series of recent news stories that seem to show the cultural tide turning. Oh, and we added web cams to the Two Tongues studio so you all can see our shining faces. Check us out on YouTube...as soon as we figure out how to get the video feed working. Enjoy :) YouTube: https://youtu.be/_54DwJWcOjA

Ep 164S2E72 - Whitehead’s Reality
EIn this episode we begin our exploration of Alfred North Whitehead's magnum opus "Process and Reality." This one serves as an introduction to the novel conceptualization of God and conscious experience that Whitehead introduced to the philosophic world, with emphasis on his speculative technique in generating a new model of reality. Whitehead defends imagination as a valid faculty to exploring the world and achieving knowledge. He also envisions reality as a "Process" generated by interaction between and within the One substance that makes up the cosmos. Enjoy :)

Ep 163S2E71 - Slaying of the Mother, Oedipus and the Triumph of the Sun
EIn this episode we return to Erich Neumann's Origin and History of Consciousness to try and make sense of the Oedipus complex as described by Freud. We take on the strange motifs of incest and patricide and explain how and why they aren't as taboo as you might think. We also explore the connections between our most ancient myths and our experience of being conscious. Here goes... Enjoy :)

Ep 162S2E70 - Sewage and Ideological Possession
EIn this episode Chris and Kyle share stories about disgusting things they've encountered over the course of their working life. Talking of disgust and interest, we ponder where such feelings come from and whether or not they constitute some form of communication from God (or our deepest Self). We talk "divine revelation" and in what ways man may actually commune with the spiritual domain. Oh, and we ask Satan to lend us a dollar. Enjoy :)

Ep 160S2E69 - Aesop and his Fables
EIn this episode we explore the ancient Greek fables of Aesop. I hoped to find psychologically significant parallels to myths and fairytales, but I found something entirely unexpected. In Aesop we find parallels to the Bible, we find the origins of many common expressions still in use today, but more than that, we get a glimpse into the social and cultural life of ordinary Ancient Greeks. He get to see what they valued, what they criticized and all their prejudices laid bare. Surprising. Entertaining. Enjoy :)

Ep 161S2E68 - Aesop on Totalitarianism
EIn this episode Kyle and Chris get the ancient Greek perspective on totalitarianism from, of all places, the fables of Aesop. We discuss the role fungi might be placing in cancer and Chris tells us about having a strangely mystical experience in the moments just before falling asleep the other night. All this and more on the Two Tongues Podcast! Enjoy :)

Ep 159S2E67 - Jung’s Greatest Pupils - Goddesses of Olympus and Feminine Personality
EThis one is for the ladies... In this episode we round out our psychological exploration of Jung's Archetypes as seen through the personalities and stories of the Ancient Greek gods. This episode hones in on the goddesses of Olympus and attempts to outline the journey of womanhood through the various personalities exemplified by Hera, Artemis, Athena, Hestia and Aphrodite. We see represented the girly-girl who uses her beauty as a tool, the fierce feminist who proves herself the equal of any man, the matriarch who rules and the preserver of family, clan and identity itself. Enjoy :)

Ep 158S2E66 - Monarchy and Medium Rare Steak
EIn this episode Kyle and Chris discuss the British Monarchy and speculate as to when having a King may actually come in handy. Derogatory things were said about the French and English (but mostly in jest...mostly). We talk delicious steak and things Chris can no longer eat. Great fun was had by all. Enjoy :)

Ep 157S2E65 - Jung’s Greatest Pupils - Gods of Olympus
EIn this episode we dive deeper into Ed Edinger's "The Eternal Drama." We are presented with the heavenly realm of Olympus as a projection of the unconscious and with the 12 Olympian Gods as projections of our own in-born psychological forces. Edinger describes a "Zeus personality," an "Apollo personality," a "Hermes personality," and so on. He tells us their stories and helps us to see ourselves in them and to experience the gods within. Enjoy :)

Ep 156S2E64 - Free Love vs Free Use
EIn this episode Chris and Kyle make a social commentary out of the free love movement of the 1960s and the free use movement today. Then we change gears to discuss what historical time periods holds the most appeal and our favorite period movies. Enjoy :)

Ep 155S2E63 - Rudolf Steiner Part 2 - Occult Mysticism
EThis episode concludes our discussion of Rudolf Steiner's--How to Know Higher Worlds. We explore more practical instructions for how to train in the "occult sciences," which surround increasing our capacity for empathy and systematically tearing down the psychological boundaries of identity...between yourself and others, between subject and object, between God and its creation. The ultimate goal of this striving took me by surprise. Steiner is not teaching ritual magic, he doesn't point to gods or demons, but rather points to the God-within. Steiner lays out a pattern of behavior and thinking that leads inevitably to an ego death and mystical enlightenment. It is endogenous. Lying in wait for each of us to become ready for its manifestation. Enjoy :)

Ep 154S2E62 - A Land Without Borders
EKyle and Chris get political again in this one. We talk about the importance of borders, the disgraceful lack of respect for one another that prevails today and the consequences this has had on our society. We talk about society as a more effective version of policing (and far cheaper) and wrap up with a foray into the occult. Enjoy :)

Ep 153S2E61 - Rudolf Steiner - How to be a Mystic
EIn this episode we introduce the early 20th century philosopher and occultist--Rudolf Steiner. We explore his book "How to Know Higher Worlds" and compare and contrast his methods with those of Carl Jung. Steiner and Jung were contemporaries of each other and, while they likely never encountered each other, came to eerily similar conclusions from wildly different perspectives. If you're looking for instructions on how to become a mystic, you came to the right place. Enjoy :)

Ep 152S2E60 - Gandalf the Red Part 7 - Being and Becoming
EIn this episode we return to Jung's mystical "Red Book" and recount 2 of his "visions." We meet (and kill) a destitute man and then chat with a monk in the desert. Through these experiences Jung comes to realize he exists as two worlds--one conscious, the other unconscious, one individual, the other collective, one as being, the other becoming. He can no longer hold on to the one-sided image of himself and of God that we wants to. He can no longer think of them as all good or as only its highest manifestation...he must complete the picture, embrace the whole and recognize that he is a "piece of the darkness" too. Enjoy :)

Ep 151S2E59 - Vedanta, Murder and Worship
EIn this episode Daniel Torridon of the Onion Unlimited podcast joins the Two Tongues. Daniel gives us a lesson in Vedanta Hindu philosophy; we talk non-dualism and get Kyle's take on it. At some point Kyle asks the question: "Can murder be worship?" and we were off to the races. We wrap up with a rapid-fire game of "Before they were Jewish" by comparing Biblical stories to their older, ancient Mesopotamian versions. Enjoy :)

Ep 150S2E58 - Swedenborg and Spiritual Influx
EIn this episode we explore the 18th century scientist and mystic--Emanuel Swedenborg. Swedenborg led an interesting life as a respected philosopher and scientist before changing to theological themes in his later life. This change was attributed to a mystical experience, wherein, Swedenborg claimed, he was given the ability to live simultaneously in the Natural and Spiritual worlds. Swedenborg speaks to angels, travels to heaven and is taught the mysteries of God and being. His mystic vision parallels that of Sir Humphry Davy who was born only 6 years after Swedenborg's death. Both men saw the spiritual "heaven" and the "angels" in the material expanse of space and in the stars and planets. Enjoy :)

Ep 149S2E57 - As Above, So Below
EThis episode originally aired as a live stream on the Onion Unlimited Podcast. Special thanks to Daniel Torridon for picking the topic and for the conversation. We talk "Hermeticism"...but what the hell is that exactly? Well, it is body of writing, some ancient and some less so, attributed to the ancient Greek god--Hermes. More correctly, they are attributed to Hermes Trismegistos; Hermes the "Thrice Great." He was a union of the Greek Hermes and the ancient Egyptian God Thoth, who the Hermeticists believed were one-in-the-same. The writings are strange and esoteric; full of symbols and abstractions. They've been used and highly regarded by philosophers, artists, mystics, alchemists and even occultists. Intrigued? Of course you are :) Enjoy

Ep 146S2E52 - Jung’s Greatest Pupil Part 7 - The Holy Mountain
EIn this episode we tackle the chapters of von Franz "Archetypal Symbols in Fairytales" that describe the image of "the mountain." We hear fairytales from across the world that take us up and deep into the holy mountain where the gods reside, or the spirits live. We see holy mountains as a symbol of the unconscious the world over, Ararat, Sinai, Olympus, Fuji, and on and on it goes. Even in the pyramids, ziggurats and stepped temples of Mesoamerica, we see the symbol of the mountain, albeit man-made. Ascending the mountain is a spiritual quest; we risk all to climb towards heaven, to meet God and are rewarded for it. What is this treasure you ask? Listen to find out... Enjoy :)

Ep 148S2E51 - Identity and Reparations
EIn this episode Kyle and Chris discuss groups versus individuality. We talk about the despicable behavior of politicians, the undermining of the American Republic, manipulation, mind control and identity formation. Things get spicy when we turn to the topic of reparations. Let the fun begin. Enjoy :)

Ep 145S2E50 - Jung’s Greatest Pupil Part 6 - Edinger’s Eternal Drama
EIn this episode we expand Jung's Greatest Pupils to include Edward Edinger. We explore his work "The Eternal Drama," which illustrates the psychological significance of the ancient Greek myths. We cover the creation of the world and the gods, the warfare between them, Prometheus and Pandora. We talk original sin and compare and contrast with the Bible, but most importantly we come to see ourselves in the mythic heroes, in the gods and in their actions. Enjoy :)

Ep 147S2E49 - To Church or Not to Church
EIn this episode Kyle recounts his trip to a Russian Orthodox church for Sunday service. We talk the differences between evangelical and Orthodox Christianity; what impressed Kyle and what did not. For those that don't know, there are no pews in an Orthodox Church...who knew? We discuss what makes religious experiences powerful and compelling and whether or not you need church. Enjoy :)

Ep 144S2E48 - Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are
EIn this episode we hear Chris' conversation with Daniel Torridon of the Onion Unlimited Podcast on the topic of Alan Watts book "On The Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are." Originally a live stream discussion, this conversation was co-released on the Onion Unlimited Podcast. We cover all the usual suspects, consciousness, ego death, the philosophy of Hegel, the meaning of death and much more. Enjoy :)

Ep 141S2E47 - Ritual, Insanity, Religion and Psychedelics
EThis was a banger of a conversation! We asked the question: What makes an object special? And tried to unravel why family heir looms carry such value before moving to sacred and ritual objects. We relate these kind of psychological forces to mental illness, such as OCD and explore how closely related mental illness is to religious and psychedelic experience. We blasphemies spoken? Did we make progress in our knowledge? The answer to both...you betcha! Enjoy :)

Ep 143S2E46 - Onion Unlimited Cross-Over Episode
EWhat do you get when you take a former Jehovah's Witness, give him a profound spiritual awakening and mix that with the minds of the reluctant hippie--Chris--and the champion of all Devil's advocates--Kyle? Find out here and on the Onion Unlimited podcast...https://onionunlimited.com/ Enjoy :)

Ep 142S2E45 - A Little Less Fringe
EIn this episode Chris re-connects with Josh Hamilton who has now officially launched his own podcast--Faith, Fringe, & Freedom. We discuss the path Josh has taken to get to the point of his debut episode and his reasons for focusing less of "fringe" and more on "faith" as the path to personal freedom. Josh is an endlessly interesting dude with his tentacles in medicine, entrepreneurship, politics and God. Check him out here and on the Faith, Fringe & Freedom podcast! Enjoy :)

Ep 140S2E44 - Jung’s Greatest Pupil Part 5 - Parting the World Parents
EIn this episode Chris dives back into Erich Neumann's "The Origins and History of Consciousness" where we learn about the Separation of the World Parents and the division of the world into opposites. Neumann let's us in on the psychological meaning of these myths and how they tie to the myth of the hero, the Biblical fall of man and original sin. Enjoy :)

Ep 139S2E43 - Schrodinger’s Satan
EIn this episode Chris and Kyle talk about the fracturing of the division of power in the U.S. government and debate the existence of evil, the idea of the Devil and whether there are powers in the world that influence us against our will. We ask what our will even is and how it relates to the will of God...an odd question for those who believe we are God. Enjoy :)

Ep 138S2E42 - Bernardo Kastrup and Idealism
EIn this episode Chris carves another face onto his intellectual Mount Rushmore. Welcome aboard Bernardo! We cover Bernardo Kastrup's interview with Nick Jikomes of the Mind & Matter podcast and it does not disappoint. They talk mystical unity, the Oneness of Being understood as pure mind, the veil of perception, Jung, World Religions and...psychedelic experience. If I were a bingo board, this conversation would be corner-to-corner X's! Enjoy :)

Ep 137S2E41 - Depopulation and Christianity
EIn this episode Kyle and Chris get controversial. We talk population control, Margaret Sanger, and global government. We touch on the Georgia Guidestones, Confederate monuments and the Jewish identity. Through in a little bit of the trans debate and the fact that George Washington didn't know about dinosaurs...and there you have it. Enjoy :)

Ep 135S2E39 - Gandalf the Red Part 6 - How to Kill the Devil
EIn this episode we enter the second half of Carl Jung's Red Book. And it does not disappoint. The first image Jung encounters here is "The Red One," who he strongly suspects is the Devil himself. His interaction with The Red One lead to an interesting examination of completeness. Jung suggests that there is something critical missing from the Pagan path that Christianity offers and something missing from the Christian path that Paganism offers. The solution is to join them to find completeness. To integrate them, just as we integrate the unconscious in ourselves. But this is not without its dangers... Enjoy :)

Ep 136S2E40 - Kyle’s Pull Toward Orthodox Christianity
EIn this episode we explore Kyle's interest in Orthodox Christianity. Chris psychologizes this and connects it to Kyle's interest in Paganism. We swiftly move to devil worship, religious imagery and Powers and Principalities. We butcher Roman history along the way. Enjoy :)

Ep 134S2E38 - Feedback, Fractals and the Fingerprint of God
EIn this episode Chris explores a documentary titled "Secret Life of Chaos" narrated by Professor of Physics at the University of Surrey. We explore the scientific creation narrative and find the core of the mystery of reality resting on three mathematical principles...Self-organization, Feedback and Fractal geometry. We then take the scientific story and lay it over the mythological one to see how they match up. Spoiler alert...more than you could ever have imagined. Enjoy :)

Ep 133S2E37 - The Great Eddie and Roe v Wade
EIn this episode we talk to the Great Eddie, a friend from Kyle and Chris' past. Matt joins as well to tell the story of the times in which our lives crossed over the years. We talk Roe v Wade, the morality of abortion and propose alternatives. A little bit of God sprinkled in and there you have it. Enjoy :)

Ep 132S2E36 - Jung’s Greatest Pupil Part 4 - The Hole in Our Selves
EThis episode picks up where we left off with Louis von Franz. We jump head first into fairytales from Siberia, Germany and indigenous America. We see snakes crawling out of king's mouths while they're sleeping and the homes of long dead relatives beneath a brook in the forest. We encounter holes and wells and the end of the world...all of which reveal themselves to be portals from this world into the Unconscious world. We fall into it like you might into a well, by sinking deep within ourselves. There we find the underworld of the Unconscious, where dangers lie, but great treasure too--both equally unknown. Enjoy :)

Ep 131S2E35 - Jung’s Greatest Pupil Part 3 - Maga Mater
EIn this episode we follow Erich Neumann from the primordial symbol of the self-created Uroboros to the primeval Great Mother. This journey is a perilous one! Consciousness has to find a way to tear itself free of the place of its birth--The Great Mother. But once it's succeeded, it finds itself at the mercy of fate and fear. The "Self," once achieved, finds itself in the Unknown...submerged, struggling and terrified. Neumann then shows us this same story, our story, through the minds and times of bygone peoples. In deepest antiquity as in the modern day, we acknowledge the Great Mother as Mother Earth, as the Universe, as the Goddess of life and death. We imagine her holding her new born son, like Horus, Marduk or the Christ child. She is the cosmos swaddling the new God. She is comfort and sustenance and peace...and yet we must wean! We suffer, yes, but wean we must in order to be.

Ep 129S2E34 - Gandalf the Red Part 5 - Redemption
EThis episode concludes the first part--Liber Primus--of Jung's Red Book. Shit is getting thick, as Jung encounters the force of consciousness in the form of the Prophet Elijah and the force of unconsciousness in the form of Salome. We descend together into the underworld over and over and see many wild and strange things. We shrink to miniscule size Alice in Wonderland style; we see images of the future come to fruition in the Second World War and the image of God as a child gestating in each and every one of us. Together we become One, Christ and the new God born from the corpse of the old. Enjoy :)

Ep 130S2E33 - Order Mitosis
EIn this episode Kyle and Chris talk about the immediate effects of cutting pornography out of your life. Chris talks out an idea that he's been developing in the form of an image. Kyle explains why women are too emotional to be taken seriously and accuses every Disney movie ever made of being progressive propaganda, Chris pumps the brakes. Jordan Peterson and his very rare terrible takes are called out while addressing how pointless everything Matthew McConaughey said about gun control was. Kyle then closes out the episode all by his lonesome, rambling about nothing in particular because he's not used to doing the podcast by himself. Enjoy :)

Ep 127S2E32 - Jung’s Greatest Pupil Part 2 - von Franz, the Indefinite Place and the Moon
EIn this first installment of Jung's Greatest Pupil, we discussed Erich Neumann and the symbol of the Uroboros. In Part 2 we pit Neumann against Marie-Louise von Franz. von Franz takes us on a journey through various fairytales from around the world and reveals the psychological symbolism in them. Much like Jordan Peterson did with his Biblical lectures, von Franz does with humanity's oldest stories...our fairytales. Let's take a "trip" together (some pun intended) to the Moon, to ancestral realm, deep within ourselves. Enjoy :)

Ep 128S2E31 - Ok, Coomer
EIn this episode we talk music, manipulation, politics and porn. We cover Kyle's reluctant transformation from Anarchist to right-wing-ishness, the process of psychological maturity (and the disturbing fact that many people never do). A little sex-ritual orgy, inspiration and motivation to top things off. Enjoy :)
