Ep 41Ep. 41 - The Truth About the Gender Pay Gap
We've all heard the claim - women only make $0.77 on the dollar compared to men! The so-called gender pay gap is front and center of the national Democrats' agenda. Ep 40Ep. 40 - The Truth About Islam, Christianity and Judaism
Regular listeners know that I attempt to record a Christian apologetic-related topic in every once in awhile. Today I compare and contrast the three major monotheistic world religions - Islam, Christianity and Judaism. They have a lot in common, which may be eye-opening to many. However, it is their divergences that really matter. The bottom line is if one of them is true, the other two cannot be. It's great food for thought. The news is filled with stories about millennials and their student loans. In this episode we examine the historical record of the national Democratic Party and then fast-forward to present day and uncover the real motivations behind their radical agenda. Ep 37Ep. 37 - The Truth About the Bill of Rights
As most of you probably remember from your middle school civics' class, the first ten amendments of the United States Constitution are known as the Bill of Rights. What you probably do NOT know is those amendments only apply to the federal government. They were included in the Constitution as a way to insure the states that this newly created federal government would be limited in power. They would not be able to infringe upon the people's freedom of speech or their right to bear arms; they would not be able to quarter their soldiers in our homes, perform unreasonable search and seizures without probable cause, prosecute us without a speedy jury trial or impose excessive fines. But most importantly, the Tenth Amendment specifically states that any powers not granted to the federal government (mostly in Article I, Section 8) is left to the states. Fast-forward a few decades later as the Civil War ended and the slaves were freed. Congress passed and the states ratified the Fourteenth Amendment in order to permanently codify the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which essentially insured that the newly freed slaves were treated equally under the law. It contained a few familiar phrases like, "privileges or immunities", "due process", and "equal protection". Unfortunately for all of us, over the ensuing 150 years the Supreme Court, as it is apt to do, has perverted the Constitution (rather than protect and defend it) and found ways to apply the Bill of Rights to the states. This is known as the Incorporation Doctrine. Ep 36Ep. 36 - The Truth About Billionaires
In Episodes #32 and #33, I covered the truth about socialism. In this episode we are going to discuss the validity of the demonization of the rich. One of the claims made is that their very existence is immoral. It is claimed that they hoard their money; that they are freeloaders. But when you examine the facts; when you examine the benefits betrothed to society by the work of billionaires and the taxes they have already paid (and continue to pay), you quickly realize that this is just another installment of the multi-decades-long effort to divide and conquer the electorate with jealousy, envy and resentment. Ep 35Ep. 35 - The Truth About the Existence of God
Proving God’s existence or the fact that Jesus rose from the dead, will never be proven in a manner we are all familiar with from watching TV legal dramas – beyond a reasonable doubt. However, I have found Frank Turek and Norman Geisler’s approach to apologetics most helpful. Specifically their approach in their best seller I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist. In today’s episode, I am going to present three arguments for the existence of God: (1) The Cosmological Argument, which argues that since the universe had a beginning something had to be the cause. The most logical explanation is that that "something" is God. (2) The Anthropic Principle which is the idea that the complexity of the universe proves the God exists and; (3) The Teleological Argument which reasons that the best explanation for the complex fine-tuning of the universe and life on Earth is an Intelligent Designer (or God). Ep 34Ep. 34 - The Truth About the Electoral College
The call for the elimination of the Electoral College by liberals, progressives and Democrats continues to swell. After all, they rationalize, Bush got less votes than Gore and Trump got less votes than Clinton so why should they be President? Fortunately for the rest of America, the Founding Fathers had enough foresight to include the Electoral College process in the Constitution to protect the country as a whole from the tyranny of the majority. In this episode, I give a brief history lesson on the Electoral College and explain why the, now underway, National Popular Vote movement, with the goal of eliminating the Electoral College, is both dangerous to the country and, of course, unconstitutional. Ep 30Ep. 30 - The Truth About the New Testament - Is it historically reliable
When I first started studying Christian apologetics someone gave me a copy of I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist by Frank Turek and Norman Geisler. If you read just one book this year and you are curious about Christianity or looking to bolster your current faith or, for that matter, you are a skeptic of Christianity, I cannot encourage you enough to read this book. One of the most profound insights I ever got into Christianity came from Chapters 9-12, which covers the historical reliability of the New Testament. Much of what I discuss in today’s episode comes from these three chapters. I hope you find it as profound as I did. Ep 29Ep. 29 - The Truth About Vaping
I recently watched a John Stossel report on Reason TV that caught my attention. It was essentially a defense of the e-cigarette industry. Prior to seeing that report, my general perception of e-cigarettes and vaping was negative. It wasn’t based on anything tangible, just a compilation of whatever news coverage I had consumed up to that point. With Stossel’s gentle prodding, I read up on e-cigarettes and I started seeing some recurring themes that we often discuss on the Truth Quest Podcast – namely unconstitutional federal government involvement in the free markets and media bias. I had to get to the bottom of the smear campaign against e-cigarettes and vaping. Tune in to see what I found. Ep 26Ep. 26 - The Truth About the Judeo-Christian Tradition
As I thought ahead to the publication of this week’s episode, I noticed that it would fall on the week of Christmas. I glanced up at my bookshelf and pulled down my copy of In Defense of Faith by David Brog and I realized the message Brog presents in that book was a perfect foundation from which to base this week’s episode on. Brog describes his book’s purpose as a rebuttal to the claim that people of faith are responsible for our greatest sorrows, bloodshed, war, hatred. His primary message is the Judeo-Christian tradition has been an overwhelming force for good throughout history with its message of equality and sanctity of all humans combined with the call to love one another. It’s the idea that all humans are made in the image of God and, therefore, are worthy of respect. When you look at the atrocities committed in the world over time, you will notice that most of them were perpetrated with a purposeful rejection of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Ep 25Ep. 25 - The Truth About the Government Shutdown
Another fiscal year has come and gone and another spending resolution deadline is looming. It seems like every year we go through the same exercise with the political class arguing and casting blame on each other over who is going to cause the latest, pending government shutdown. Well guess what? It is largely inconsequential. The amount of federal spending that Congress actually controls is around 14% of the budget. So we are supposed to tie ourselves in knots over a minuscule part of the budget while the federal government continues its ever-expanding march into unconstitutional areas of American's lives. It's all an unnecessary distraction from the real problems that plague our nation and it is a distraction from Congress' abdication of most of their constitutional duties. Ep 23Ep. 23 - The Truth About Nullification
The federal government is not supposed to be this gargantuan entity that is involved in virtually every aspect of our lives. The states created the federal government via the Constitution. They granted the federal government a few powers while all others were left to the states. Unfortunately, modern America's political system is a far cry from the Founder's vision of limited power at the federal level. Fortunately there is a method whereby the power that the federal government tries to wield can be checked. That method is called nullification. Nullification is the practice whereby states resist federal actions that they deem unconstitutional. In this episode, I introduce you to the concept, dispel quite a few inaccurate assumptions made by mainstream news outlets and so-called historians and provide you with several examples of nullification efforts currently going on today. Ep 22Ep. 22 - The Truth About Jesus Christ
This is the fourth episode focusing on a Christian apologetic topic. In Episode #5 we talked about The Truth About the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Episode #10, we covered The Truth About God and Evil and in Episode #15 we talked about The Truth About Prayer. What I want to talk to you about today is the remarkable (and dare I say, miraculous) story of a carpenter named Jesus from a map dot in the middle of the Middle East who lived over 2,000 years ago and the truth about the impact He left on the world. I’ve heard Jesus Christ called a lot of things but the most accurate word is “radical”. Let me know if you agree after listening to this episode. Ep 20Ep. 20 - The Truth About Birthright Citizenship
President Trump recently stirred up a hornets nest when he mentioned that he was considering signing an executive order ending birthright citizenship. As you might expect progressives went crazy, while Democrats and establishment Republicans denounced and/or, in the case of Senator Tim Scott (SC) or outgoing Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, politely “disagreed” with the President. Ep 19Ep. 19 - The Truth About Elections and Washington D.C.
Do you ever question the amount of time and energy spent fretting about the politics coming out of Washington D.C.? The Founding Fathers never thought that the average American would spend much time pondering the goings-on in D.C. After all, the federal government's power was constitutionally restricted. Ep 18Ep. 18 - The Truth About Gun Control
Gun control is one of the most contentious issues in American politics. The pro-Second Amendment, pro-gun arguments are so much more persuasive and based on facts, common sense, and logic that gun control advocates should be embarrassed to even engage in an argument. Successfully arguing this issue really only requires you to repeat the words of gun control advocates back to them with a little commentary. The illogical nature of their arguments and the place of ignorance from which they often argue is quite easy to identify and dismantle for any intellectually honest person. Ep 17Ep. 17 - The Truth About Healthcare Reform
The reason the American healthcare system is in such a mess is because of decades of government intervention and the third-party payer system. If we reduce government involvement and bring back capitalistic, free market principles, conditions will improve; it’s almost guaranteed. In a nutshell, real healthcare reform can be accomplished by encouraging a patient-centered, market-based system that eliminates or, at least, minimizes government involvement in the system. Ep 12Ep. 12 - The Truth About Socialized Medicine
This is the second of four healthcare-related episodes. In Episode #9, I discussed the truth about healthcare in America as a way to lay the groundwork for the other three – the truth about socialized medicine, the truth about Obamacare, and the truth about real healthcare reform. The truth about socialized medicine or government-run medical systems is wherever it has been implemented, the results have been people suffering from shortages, rationing of care, long wait times, a lower level of care, there is no incentive to shop for better prices (or better service), and the denial of experimental drugs, innovative procedures, and new technologies. Why would we willingly endorse and enroll in a healthcare system that has proven to be inferior to the one we currently have? Why would we willingly put our health in the hands of a bunch of faceless bureaucrats who could care less about us personally? What is it about other nations' socialized medicine programs that is worthy of emulation? Ep 11Ep. 11 - The Truth About Fortnite
Today we are going off the beaten path of politics, public policy, economics and Christian apologetics. We are going to talk about the life lessons reinforced by playing the latest video game craze, Fortnite. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, it is fashioned after the fight-to-the-death competition in The Hunger Games. You parachute onto an island with 99 other players and struggle to survive until there is only one player or team left standing. Every parent of a 10-25 year old is aware of this game. Some parents restrict playing time, others just complain about how all-encompassing or addicting it seems to be. It is, to say the least a worldwide phenomenon. Despite its addictive nature, the game teaches and reinforces many life lesson. In this episode, I cover 20 lessons. Ep 10Ep. 10 - The Truth About God and Evil
Let's be honest, if you are looking for a reason not to believe in God, the world is more than willing to supply you with one - the existence of evil is just one of many. It also happens to be one of the more persuasive reasons. Atheists, agnostics, and non-Christians complain all the time about how “harsh” and “evil” the God of the Old Testament appears to be. And the ever-present question of how can a good God allow so much cruelty to exist is a legitimate question worthy of an answer. My intent with this episode is to present you with information that I have come across over the years as I continued my truth quest in regards to the question of God and evil. At this point in my journey, I feel like I know about three-quarters of the story. There are still areas where I am not clear but, perhaps this episode will spark some discussion on the Truth Quest Facebook page and you can help fill me in on the rest of the story. Ep 9Ep. 9 - The Truth About Healthcare in America
I have several healthcare-related episodes in the works including one on Obamacare, one on socialized medicine, and one on healthcare reform. In order to lay the groundwork for those future episodes, I thought it was important to discuss healthcare in America in general and dispel some myths or lies or propaganda (depending on your perspective). Ep 8Ep. 8 - The Truth About Social Security
In my book, Pritical Thinking, I wrote that Social Security was doomed from the start. It is nothing more than a government-sanctioned, intergenerational Ponzi Scheme! It is unconstitutional and should be abolished. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was not truthful with the American people when he was pushing the legislation that eventually passed. Social Security will be insolvent by 2034. There are other alternatives currently implemented by dozens of countries around the world. Why doesn't the United States adopt one of them? Ep 7Ep. 7 - The Truth About Climate Change - Part I
This episode will tackle the issue of climate change or global cooling or global warming (depending on what decade in which the issue is being pushed). Specifically we are going to review this topic from the perspective of the propaganda, lies, and deception that surround the topic. The list is long but I tackle five instances: The Hockey Stick Temperature Chart. The claim that 97% of climate scientists are in agreement. The University of East Anglia scandal. Al Gore's movie, The Inconvenient Truth The ridiculous claim that "the debate is settled" and "there is consensus". Ep 6Ep. 6 - The Truth About Colin Kaepernick and the NFL National Anthem Protests
Today we are going to talk about former San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback, Colin Kaepernick’s 2017 national anthem protest. I was prompted to record this episode after reading an article in my local sports section by Associated Press writer Paul Newberry as he used the opportunity of the opening of NFL training camps to complain about the fact that Colin Kaepernick is still unemployed. Ep 4Ep. 4 - The Truth About Minimum Wage
We are going to tackle the minimum wage issue with facts, figures, economic laws, and logic rather than, what we usually get - emotional calls for the wage rate increase using illogical arguments that are in direct opposition to economic law. I want to start with a quote by Thomas Sowell from his epic book, Basic Economics that really lays the foundation for this discussion. On page 237 he said: “By the simplest and most basic economics, a price artificially raised tends to cause more to be supplied and less to be demanded than when prices are left to be determined by supply and demand in a free market. The result is a surplus, whether the price that is set artificially high is that of farm produce or labor.” Show Notes: The Real Minimum Wage is $0.00 - New York Times, January 14, 1987 2014 Congressional Budget Office Study Harvard Business Review study, March 2018 eattle minimum wage Minimum wage is bad for low-skilled workers – Daniel J. American live in a perpetual constitutional crisis. The heavy restrictions placed on the federal government by the U.S. Constitution are ignored. We have experienced both small and incremental steps in the power and growth of the federal government (federal agencies, bureaucracies and regulations) as well as large and unprecedented leaps (the Alien and Sedition Acts, the internment of Japanese, The Patriot Act, and NSA spying). Ep 1Ep. 1 - The Truth Quest
Welcome to Episode #1 of The Truth Quest Podcast where we will, 20-25 minutes at a time, relentlessly pursue the truth in the arenas of politics, public policy, economics and Christianity. I have been studying the first three topics for over 30 years and Christian apologetics for about 15. As my studies continued, I noticed a similar pattern in all of these arenas – a resistance to the truth. Rather than pursue the truth, some prefer to stick their head in the sand, cover their eyes and ears (anything to avoid facing the truth). They will make straw-man arguments, spew talking points, name-call those who disagree and, often lie. My intention with this podcast it to uncover the truth.
