Show Notes
In this episode, I interview Alicia Filley, the founder of the Healthy Hiker Program, and we discuss training for the older hiker. Many hikers out there believe that their time has passed for more strenuous adventures... that it is not physically possible anymore to accomplish many hikes they have dreamed off... that they have 'missed the boat' when it comes to ticking off some lifelong goals. But this is simply not true. With the right physical training and preparation, there really is not an age limit to adventure. And that is what Alicia, the founder of The Healthy Hiker PRogram, is here to chat about. In this episode:
- The most important aspect of training an older hiker needs to incorporate
- How to differentiate between 'good sore' and 'bad sore' when starting training
- One muscle group which often gets overlooked by hikers
- A simple way to warm up before a hike to minimise the risk of falling
- A few easy exercises you can do at home to improve balance
