Ep. 38: How the Paleo Diet (and Movement) Will Change Your Life with Top Authority Robb Wolf
Today, we have a huge treat for you - though it's a paleo-friendly treat. Over the next two months, we will be doing a 3 (or maybe 4) part series on paleolithic nutrition and the paleo diet. Though we'll be spreading these episodes apart to provide a little variety in between, we'll nonetheless be interviewing the 3 or 4 of TOP experts on the paleo diet, each approaching it from a different angle. This week, we start with the biggest name in Paleo, and in my mind, the guy who popularized it and made it into a movement: Robb Wolf. He's a former research biochemist. He's the NYT bestselling author of The Paleo Solution. He is a student of Loren Cordain, the originator of the Paleo diet. He runs one of the top ranking podcasts on iTunes. He is co-owner of one of the most influential CrossFit boxes in the world, one of the top 30 gyms in America. He serves on the board of numerous health-related companies… Oh, and on top of all of this, he's a former California State powerlifting champion, and a recovering vegetarian. We're going to learn how to set up your sleep environment, when it's best to sleep, which positions are healthier, how much is enough, how to troubleshoot sleep issues, and what factors make the biggest difference. Just to give you guys a fair bit of warning, it's a rather a long interview, and we do take a little while to warm up and get into the groove of things. We spend probably about 25 or more minutes just talking about how to identify your sleep needs and the type of mattress and pillows.... So yeah, when I say we go deep, I really mean it. Stay the course and listen through to the end, though, because we cover a ton of ground in the second half of the episode, and there are a number of surprising takeaways and bits of homework that could dramatically impact the quality of your life.

Ep. 35: Abel James on How to Lose Belly Fat... By Eating More Fat
This week, we're talking about a topic that just about everyone seems to be interested in - fat loss. With nearly 60% of the population suffering from obesity or related afflictions in many western countries, you can see why it's such a hot topic. To dive into it, I've invited one of THE authorities on the topic - Abel James. Years ago, he decided to depart from all the common dieting advice that had kept him overweight and unhealthy and do his own research and experimentation. Through that research and experimentation, he was able to shed 20 pounds in 40 days. In this episode, he tells us how!

Ep. 34A: Dr. Anthony Metivier & Jonathan Levi on Memory, Learning, Life, and Happiness
In mid-July, I had the great pleasure of hosting Dr. Anthony Metivier in beautiful Tel Aviv, Israel, as we worked on our new course on personal branding. While Anthony was here, we took the opportunity to record a live Q&A on the video broadcasting platform Meerkat, where we took hundreds of questions from people all over the world. In it, we cover a ton of questions from our followers, ranging from memory and super learning techniques all the way to more serious topics such as depression, anxiety, and more. We even get in to health, biohacking, the meaning of life, and what it takes to be happy. I hope you guys will excuse the very raw and unpolished (read: drunken) format, because it has SO much value to offer. Also, you'll be pleased to know that I've given up alcohol since this interview was recorded (you'll realize why about an hour in).

Ep. 33: How "Floating" Could Change Your Life with Sensory Deprivation Expert Shane Stott
This week, I'm excited to think that I might just introduce you to a health practice that you've never heard of. It's called "floating." Well, more scientifically speaking, it's called sensory deprivation. Maybe you've heard of it. Maybe you haven't. Maybe, like myself, you've experimented with it in the past and seen very interesting and encouraging results. Either way, in this episode, we're going to talk to one of the experts on sensory deprivation, and learn not only the powerful benefits it can have for your mind and body, but more importantly, how you can actually do it… after all, most of us don't have massive sound-proof saltwater chambers just… like… lying around. At least, I don't. We're also going to talk about everything from Magnesium supplementation to anxiety and depression… we even talk about the possibility of aliens having landed on Earth. It's a fun episode, and I know you're going to enjoy it.

I feel truly fortunate that he opened up and didn't hold anything back from us, sharing now only the darkest of the dark, but also his own strategies for overcoming them. I, for one, am going to be reading his most recent book very soon.

Ep. 28: The Father of Modern Memory Improvement Harry Lorayne: 60 Years of Mnemonics
Today, we've managed to book, without exaggeration, the world's foremost expert on memory and memory training: Harry Lorayne. He's a living legend. Since the late 1950's, he has sold over 17 MILLION copies of over 40 books on memory and magic. He's been on every major television show you can imagine at least once - and generally starts off by memorizing the names of everyone in the up to 1500 person audience. He's been in Forbes, coached a long list of Fortune 500 companies and their executives… Honestly, there's no way I can possible do justice by just listing off his many accomplishments. More important than these accomplishments is the fact that today's guest is generally credited with bringing Memory training and mnemonics back into the public sphere. Long before the world memory championships, and long before both myself and my co-authors of Become a SuperLearner were even born, he was putting in the hours to rediscover and improve upon ancient memory techniques that have helped tens of millions of people change every aspect of their lives through improved mental faculties. This interview might just be our biggest and most important yet. There's so much value here, I don't even know where to start. At 89 years old, Harry Lorayne pulls no punches and makes no apologies. He shares heartbreaking stories of physical abuse and overcoming dyslexia, but also some incredibly inspiring tales of how he became the world's most respected authority on memory… which, by the way, he did with nothing more than a middle school education. You'll notice right away that Harry is clearly very practiced, having spent literally 60 years in the public spotlight. He's an incredible storyteller, and has an incredible way of answering questions with vivid stories and examples that will leave you wanting more. I just know you're going to love this episode, so please take a moment to drop us a tweet or an email or a comment below with your thoughts.

After the year was up, his blog had attracted such a following, he continued with this passion project, turning it into A Life of Productivity, and becoming a renowned expert on all things productivity. This episode is a bit different in nature and tone than other ones, as you've probably already picked up - and I think it's improvement! There's plenty of humor - some of it crude - and lots of entertaining discussion. With that said, we also uncover what I think are some of the most important habits, behaviors, and practices that lend themselves to leading a happier, more joyous, and more productive life. I'm not going to spoil the fun… just turn up the volume and enjoy some wisdom from the delightful Mr. Chris Bailey.

We talk about the ideal mix of exercise and movement for a healthy life, determining the right diet for you, supplementation, and just generally how to look, feel, and perform your best. It's a quick interview, and packed with knowledge. Just one caveat / apology, the interview does have a very abrupt ending, as my guest and I were disconnected towards the end and ran out of time while trying to reconnect. We've edited it the best we can, but please forgive the less-than-polished ending.

The episode is absolutely jam-packed: it's very theory-heavy and offers a lot of very new, unique, and impactful ideas that I certainly had never considered. My guest today is Tayo Rockson, a "third culture kid" using his difference to make a difference. In this episode, we talk about this crazy beautiful and increasingly multicultural world, and how to stake your claim and shine in it. We also go into some great stuff about life purpose and entrepreneurship. It's a lighter, easier, and more casual listen than some of the more intense and geeky human optimization stuff we've discussed on the show recently, but definitely no less valuable or worthwhile. Hit the comments below to let us know if you want to hear more of these casual "conversation" types of episodes!

He really has a thousand watt presence, and he'll inspire you before he even dives into the message itself. In the interview, he offers a ton of practical and easy-to-apply skills to help you identify and live your dream, as well as overcome the fear of failure or uncertainty. After retiring from management consulting, he has published a number of books on money making ventures for nonprofits, jumping the job track, and most recently, a book entitled "Make it Stick: The Science of Successful Learning." In fact, his book and mine are consistently battling it out for the top spot on Amazon's list of best books about learning, so you know, i just had to reach out to him and compare notes on how the strategies for successful long-term learning versus those for accelerated learning compare.

This week's guest is quite possibly one of the toughest, fiercest women on the planet - seriously. Her name is Adi Rotem, and she holds no less than 2 WORLD championship titles in Thai boxing, from both the WAKO and WFCA organizations. As if that weren't enough, Adi holds a third degree black belt and seven consecutive Israeli national championship titles in mixed martial arts. She also served in the Israeli Defense Forces as a Krav Maga instructor, and has more recently competed in a reality TV show in the Enfusion style of martial arts. Basically, if it is a form of martial arts, Adi has either trained in it or won a title in it. When you hear Adi speak and tell her story, you'll immediately understand just how deep her determination goes. It's a very inspiring story that will help you understand just how much determination it takes to earn the title "World Champion." Ep. 4: Can Everyone Do SuperHuman Acrobatic Feats? Yuri Marmerstein Tells Us How
We interview Yuri Marmerstein, an acrobat and gymnast who has made a name for himself as one of the authorities on hand balancing. Yuri's feats, which you can see in the video below, are absolutely superhuman, but what's more impressive is that despite spending some time training with some of the greats, Yuri is largely self taught, and is teaching people all over the world to perform these seemingly superhuman feats by themselves. What he offers, then, is a very unique perspective on learning incredible acrobatic and physical feats from someone who was not born into it, and who hasn't trained since the age of 4, like most of the elite gymnasts you may have seen. This interview is very technical and nerdy, and we go very deep into some of the skills and the path to learning them.
